01 TROPOS

Project: Residential Apartments

Project Area: 19258 sq.m.

Project Location: MRC Nagar, Chennai

The project is situated in a premium residential neighbourhood in Chennai. The objective of this project is to design luxury residences including communal ammenities and a clubhouse. The residences would also be offering a panoromic view towards the sea and allow cool sea breeze to flow in throughout the day creating a pleasant ambience.

Transitional Spaces are the connecting in between Spaces

Entrance: transitional relationship between two distinct spaces.

Linking space between two or more spaces. eg: courtyards, verandas, corridors, stairs, ramps.

Location: MRC Nagar, Chennai

Total Area: 19258 sq.m.

FSI Achieved: 1.78

OSR: 10%: 1925.8 sq.m.

• MRC Nagar is a premium residential neighborhood in Chennai.

• The site is situated along the banks of Adyar river.

• It is a posh area comprising multi-storey apartments by well- known developers.

• The site is accessible through two junction points along Greenways road.

• The site has proximity to essential amenities.

Circulation Space

Circulation refers to the movement of people through, around and between buildings and other parts of the built environment.

• Public circulation.

• Private circulation.

• Horizontal circulation - corridors

• Vertical circulation - stairs and ramps.

• Closed circulation - corridors

• Open circulation - atrium.

Entrances, foyers, lobbies, corridors, stairs, landings, garden, car parking areas, recreational areas.

To connect nature and landscape - backyard, courtyard, pavilions.

Semi open enclosure: Balconies, terraces, chhatri, trellis.

• Use of pergolas, pathways, aisles, foyers, lobbies to connect distinct spaces.

Path-space relationship:

• indoor circulation to be made short, safe and accessible.

• recreational outdoor circulation through transitional spaces.

Spatial Hierarchy

The articulation of the importance or significance of a form or space by its size, shape or placement relative to the other forms and spaces of the organization.

Hierarchy by size: If one element is larger than another element in the design, it will appear more hierarchical.

Hierarchy by placement: A form or space may be strategically placed to call attention to itself as the most important element in a composition.

Hierarchy by shape: A form or shape can be made visually dominant by differentiating its shape from other elements in the composition.

02 KENTRO

Project Type: Youth Empowerment Centre

Project Area: 10290 sq.m.

Project Location: Nandambakkam, Chennai

The aim of this project is to create a youth development centre to not only upskill and educate youth for better job opportunities but also to improve their mental health and well being by utilizing the therapeutic effect of architecture as well as enable youth from various sectors to a common space and to create a symbiotic relationship via networking.

Design Process

Boosting productivity and performance of youth by creating salubrious spaces with the principles of therapeutic architecture. The space should be well connected to the natural environment as it would benefit the users in a psychological, social and physical way.

Location: Nandambakkam, Chennai.

Total Area: 10290 sq.m.

OSR: 10%: 1029 sq.m.

Maximum FSI: 2 Road Width: 30m

• The site is located opposite to Chennai Trade Center along Mount Poonamallee Road.

• It is connected to all parts of the city and is accessible through different modes of public transportation.

• It is situated in a moderate economic zone which is easily identified by people who are new in town.

• The surrounding is already in use and remembered by youth.

Natural Light is more pleasurable and calming than artificial light. Certain colours tend to encourage activities while others tend to promote passive behaviour.

If a building is harmonious and close to nature it has a positive effect on the environment.

Improved acoustics can have a positive effect on the psychosocial environment.

Thereby, stimulating all the senses transforms the interaction between people and the built environment.

Project: Primary School

Project Area: 3100 sq.m.

Project Location: Kotturpuram, Chennai

The project aims to create a simple yet dynamic atmosphere for the primary school to help students break out from the daily monotony and boost their performance by enhancing the learning environment. The primary school is situated in Kotturpuram, an institutional zone.

• Movement of the eye distinguishes between DYNAMIC or STATIC.

DYNAMISIM ≠ IMBALANCE

• Most important PSYCHOLOGICAL as well as PHYSICAL influence on HUMAN PERCEPTION is BALANCE.

• Balance does not have to take the form of symmetry.

• The weight of the design elements can be adjusted assymetrically.

• The additional forces move the design away from strucand

A curved shape gets its meaning through its contrast to straightness.

04 Apeiro

Project Type: Shopping Mall

Project Area: 43482 sq.m.

Project Location: Tambaram Sanatorium, Chennai

The aim of this project is to design a shopping complex catering to all kinds of users and to create an entertaining and relaxing ambience where families can spend their leisure time. The project is situated in Tambaram Sanatorium, a developing area with upcoming commercial projects creating an ideal environment for this project.

Design Process Site Details

Location: Tambaram Sanatorium, Chennai.

Total Area: 43482.38 sq.m.

OSR: 10%: 4348.2 SQ.M.

Maximum FSI: 2

• The site is situated between Tambaram and Chromepet near Sanatorium bus terminus along GST road.

• It is situated in a commercial, institutional and mixed residential zone.

• It is a developing area with upcoming commercial buildings.

• The site has direct access through main road and has no neighbouring buildings.

• There is availability of different modes of public transport to access the site.

To make the mall more efficient by focusing on CIRCULATION PATH and WAYFINDING. Wayfinding is knowing where you are physically and how to get where you want in space.

• It helps users to access the various spaces within a building, reducing stress and increasing efficiency.

• The main sight lines of a building connect it to an attractive point.

• Node area - where the choices are made available to continue on the same route or take a different one.

• The nodes serve as spatial wayfinding tools.

• Flexible Routing - The floor organization which is in the shape of the number eight provides a flexible route to move between different perspectives and time scales. The shared central nodes punctuates the wayfinding tools by acting as the point of reference from various levels.

• Sight Lines - Being able to see what is ahead will promote curiosity and exploration and can reinforce the end user’s mental map of the space.

• Two intersecting round structures create a continuous circular organization for both programmes and circulation.
