FROM THE DESK OF CEO Dear Colleagues, The first half of 2018 has been an exceptionally busy and challenging period for PTP. However, despite the robust conditions, PTP continues to progress steadily by delivering positive result and improve on our competitiveness.

From January until August, various continuous investment and improvement activities have been successfully executed and are currently taking place to ensure that we are able to achieve our target set forth for this financial year, and more importantly to safeguard PTP’s position amongst the top transhipment hub in the world.

Our colleagues, especially from Engineering & Facilities, Operations and Project Integration have been working closely with each other to make sure that our facilities, equipment life-cycle readiness and maintenance strategy are always in check. Our collective effort towards operational improvement and consistency in productivity has yielded several positive results such as when our Operations team successfully logged in the highest PMPH record for mainliner and feeder services respectively. Apart from that, we have also been nominated as one of the finalists to receive Port Infrastructure Development of the year award by Lloyd's List Asia Pacific Awards scheduled to be held in Singapore in the coming September.

This year, PTP Management has also taken priority to intensify its stakeholder’s engagement in an effort to serve its customers with the best service and practice. The highlight of these stakeholders’ engagement activities is when the Minister of Transport himself, YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook and his MOT delegates came to visit our terminal.

For our employees, engagement activities also include the Town Hall session, Coffee Break sessions with both the white and blue collars staff, Buka Puasa with Management, PTP Hari Raya celebration, Safety Committee Meetings, PTP Family Day and many more.

In addition, to supplement the growing demand and requirement of the industry, we are also currently working hard to roll out the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System and strengthen our security capability with the implementation of the Access Control & CCTV initiative.

As safety is utmost priority in PTP, proactive safety culture and environmental awareness are key elements that need to be continuously emphasized in promoting such culture in PTP as well as in our daily lives.

To eliminate risks and further promote safe operations, PTP through its Health, Safety and Environment Department (HSE) was proud to join APM Terminals ports around the world in rolling out its Fatal-5 Standards, which were critical areas identified as the highest risk areas to focus on in order to eliminate fatalities and further promote safe operations, which are underpinned by minimum controls on each of the five critical areas.

On a lighter but meaningful note, I recently had the opportunity to be part of 2018 PTP Family Day Celebration organized by both PTP and Kelab Keluarga PTP (KKPTP). This year, I was told that more than 6000 members of PTP community, including staff, family and the surrounding community attended the event to celebrate such joyous event together.

Various unique elements were introduced and infused this time around, particularly with the introduction of two days celebration after the Management has agreed to combine the Gawai Ngiling Bidai, Festival of Kaamatan as well as Hari Raya Celebration. The combination of these 3 big festivals was meant to symbolize the strong sense of togetherness that exists between the PTP communities but also to a larger context, Malaysian society.

Apart from all the exciting activities, in our effort to become a responsible and environmental friendly community, the Management and the program’s committee members had also decided to introduce several environment based initiatives to promote on Environmental Awareness Campaign to raise public awareness on the importance of creating a sustainable environment and respecting nature in our everyday lives.

On behalf of PTP Senior Management Team, I would like to thank everyone for your support and participation in the event respectively. I truly hope you, family and beloved ones enjoyed the celebration as much as I was.

Last but not least, I would like to urge everyone to continue with the good work. No matter what challenges and circumstances come upon us, we must not lose sight of our priority which is to be a strong and financially sustainable that can put the customer at the heart of everything we do.

The journey has been challenging but I think we are progressing well in the industry. Personally, I think that PTP today is more stabilize, in a sense we are not routinely facing the issues and problems that we had had before. Significant achievements have been made as a result of our constant effort in strengthening of our customer and stakeholders’ relations, improvement on productivity, and continuous investment in our equipment and facilities.

As such, let us remain steadfast and strong-willed in our course of work.

Evaluate and execute not only is best for our part of the business, but also the potential impact on other parts and on the Group as a whole.

FAMILY DAY FESTIVAL

PTP HIGHLIGHTS SPIRIT OF TOGETHERNESS AND INCLUSIVENESS

On 13 & 14 July 2018, Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group held its 2018 Family Day to celebrate its employees as well as their immediate family members for a fun and unforgettable experience. Held at several locations within the compound of PTP, more than 6000 members of PTP community flocked the site to celebrate the joyous event together.

With “Let’s Celebrate Together” as the theme, the event celebrates the sense of camaraderie and inclusiveness amongst the variety of people with different background, nationality, culture and professions that exist in PTP. This year, several unique elements were incorporated into the already comprehensive program such as by combining the celebration of Gawai Ngiling Bidai, Festival of Kaamatan as well as Hari Raya Aidilfitri festival together. The combination of these 3 big festivals symbolizes the unity that exists between the PTP communities but also to a larger context, Malaysian society.

Various fun and interesting activities were organized throughout the two days event such as Fun Run – Water War, Battle of The Band Competition, Telematch, Karaoke competition, Port Tour, Panjut Competition, Gawai Ngiling Bidai, Festival of Kaamatan, Colouring contest for kids and many more.

In an effort to become a responsible and environmental friendly community, PTP had also decided to introduce several environment based initiatives to promote on Environmental Awareness Campaign dedicated to preserve our environment. The campaign aims to raise public awareness on the importance of creating a sustainable environment and respecting nature in our everyday lives, no plastic based food and drink containers and utensils were used throughout the two days event. Apart from that, all visitors were also encouraged to recycle, reduce and reuse to eliminate waste and protect the environment respectively.

PTP Family Day 2018 was a success from every aspect, strengthening the spirit of togetherness amongst the staff, revitalising morale and enable not only the staff to interact with each other but spending more quality time with their family members.

MINISTER OF TRANSPORT YB LOKE SIEW FOOK

On 30th July 2018, Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), a member of MMC Group received an inaugural one – day working visit from the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) delegation led by YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport.

Also present during the visit were Datuk Seri Haji Saripudin Hj Kasim, Secretary General of MOT, Dato’ Abdul Rahim Bin Ramli, Chairman of Johor Port Authority, Muhammad Razif Ahmad, General Manager of Johor Port Authority, YB Haji Mazlan Bujang, Johor Works, Infrastructure and Transport Committee Chairman, as well as several others federal and state officials and representatives.

YB Loke Siew Fook and delegation were welcomed by PTP Chairman, Dato’ Sri Che Khalib Bin Mohamad, Group CEO of MMC Port Holdings Sdn Bhd, Ian Brian James, PTP Chief Executive Officer, Marco Neelsen and members of PTP Management Team.

During the visit, YB Loke Siew Fook and delegation were taken to visit PTP Marine Port Control Centre at Level 7, Wisma A for a briefing on the Vessel Traffic Management Information System (VTMIS), a collaborative effort between PTP and LPJ that focuses on a service that primarily improves efficiency of vessel traffic movement and safety of navigation within port approaches or through hazardous areas.

The minister and delegation was then ushered for a closed briefing session by PTP and LPJ where Marco Neelsen presented on the port’s operational and core businesses, on-going development and future plan as well as challenges and its socio-economic contributions to Malaysia and Johor state. Muhammad Razif Ahmad presented on Johor Port Authority’s function, mission and vision, challenges as well as current and future initiatives.

The MOT’s working visit to PTP was concluded with a visit around PTP Free Zone District A and B and terminal area before they were escorted for a dinner event at a local seafood restaurant, hosted by Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor.

MALAYSIA’S SOUTHERN GATEWAYS

MMC PORTS PARTICIPATES IN 16th ASEAN PORTS & SHIPPING From 3 – 5 July 2018, Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), Johor Port Berhad (JPB), Penang Port Sdn Bhd (Penang Port) and Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport) members of MMC Ports Holdings Sdn. Bhd participated in the 16th ASEAN Ports and Shipping Conference & Exhibition, held at Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel, Johor.

Hosted by Johor Port Authority (JPA), the event is one of the biggest annual Maritime Ports, Shipping and Transport Logistics Exhibition and Conference in the ASEAN region where it provides an opportunity for Maritime industry executives, government officials and technical specialists to get together to discuss current maritime issues and future development in the region through a programme of speeches, presentations, debate and exhibition. Various activities were organized throughout the three days event such as exhibition and conferences, technical site visit to PTP and JPB, networking sessions and gala dinner.

The official opening ceremony was launched by Deputy Secretary-General of the Transport Ministry, Mohd Khairul Adib Abdul Rahman. Also present during the event were Dato 'Abdul Rahim Ramli, Chairman of Johor Port Authority, Muhammad Razif Ahmad, General Manager of Johor Port Authority, Marco Neelsen, Chief Executive Officer of PTP, Shahrull Allam Shah Abdul Halim, Chief Executive Officer of Johor Port Berhad, Dato' Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport as well as several senior management team members from the respective subsidiaries companies.

During the event, Ian James, Group Chief Executive Officer MMC Port Holdings Sdn Bhd was featured as one of the conference speakers discussing a topic entitled “The role of MMC ports in ASEAN region”. Apart from Ian James, Marco Neelsen was also invited to present his topic entitled “Industry Revolution Maritime Perspective – Investments & Technology”.

A technical site visit to PTP and JPB involving more than 80 delegates from 10 countries was also conducted to provide first-hand insight on the latest commercial and operational developments taking place in both ports.

The participation of subsidiary companies in ports and logistics of MMC Group at 16th ASEAN Ports and Shipping Conference & Exhibition was part of the Group’s continuous effort to increase brand awareness of MMC Ports and as an on-going Group stakeholders’ engagement initiative to strengthen relationship between the Group and its relevant business partners including the customers and government entities.

SINGAPORE MARITIME WEEK 2018

PTP CEO SHARES INDUSTRY INSIGHT IN TOC ASIA CONFERENCE On 24 & 25 April 2018, PTP continues to empower its presence within regional ports, logistics and maritime industry players as well as investors by participating in TOC Asia 2018 Conference in conjunction with Singapore Maritime Week 2018.

Organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) is a key platform for the industry to gather and discuss the pressing and emerging issues driving the regional and international maritime landscape. The 13th edition of SMW brings the international maritime community together for 19 forums and conferences, 11 networking receptions and 4 public outreach activities.

On 25 April, Marco Neelsen, Chief Executive Officer of PTP was also featured as one of the speakers during The Asia & Middle East Infrastructure & Investment Forum. During the session, Marco had shared with the forum participants on his outlooks on ports and maritime industry especially with regards to the industry transformation and evolution, liners consolidation and the impacts towards port industry in the region especially to PTP. Amongst the prominent industry figures present during this year’s event include Søren Skou, CEO of A.P. Moller – Maersk, Ola Elvestuen, Minister of Climate and Environment, Norway, Kitack Lim, Secretary General, International Maritime Organisation, Dewa Made Sastrawan, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Transportation on International Relations, Indonesia and many more.

On 23 April, a delegation from TOC Asia had also visited PTP as part of the delegation familiarisation visit to the biggest single port operators in Malaysia. The delegation was received by PTP Chief Operations Officer, Joe Schofield along with several selected PTP Management Team.

During the visit, the delegation was briefed by PTP Management Team on the ports history and its on-going development. The delegation was also taken for a visit to PTP Marine Control Tower, Level 7, Wisma A and a port visit around the terminal area.

MMC SOUTHERN BASED SUBSIDIARIES ORGANIZE

HARI RAYA OPEN HOUSE GALORE FOR CUSTOMERS & STAKEHOLDERS On 5 July 2018, Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), Johor Port Berhad (JPB), Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (SATSSB) and Senai Airport City (SAC), southern based subsidiaries company of MMC Corporation Berhad had organized a joint Hari Raya Open House for costumers and stakeholders as part of the on-going Hari Raya festivities and the companies stakeholders engagement initiative to strengthen relationship between the business partners.

The annual festive event was held at Mutiara Hotel, Johor Bahru and was attended by more than 800 guests from various companies and government agencies.

Among the honorary guests attended the event were Mazlan Bujang, Johor Work, Infrastructure and Transportation Committee Chairman, Dato' Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, MMC Group Managing Director, Muhammad Razif Ahmad, General Manager of Johor Port Authority, Raphy Md Radzi, Director of MATRADE Southern Regional Office, Sabariah Mohd Sofian, Director of of MITI Southern Regional Office, Lim Phang Poon, President of Johor Freight Forwarders Association and Shahrilnizam Shahrum, Chairman of Association of Malaysian Hauliers.

Also present during the event were, Marco Neelsen, CEO of PTP, Shahrull Allam Shah Abdul Halim CEO of JPB, Derick Basir CEO of SATSSB, Gan Seng Keong General Manager, Group Property of MMC Berhad, State and Federal Government Officials, costumers, associates, media members as well as senior management team members from the respective subsidiaries companies.

Apart from being treated to scrumptious delicacies, guests enjoyed an opportunity to network and mingle with one another.

MMC Southern based subsidiaries Hari Raya Open House is part of annual almanac for the MMC Southern Region subsidiaries since 2011. The event provided an excellent opportunity for the companies to celebrate Hari Raya in a warm and friendly atmosphere filled with a sense of goodwill, in the company of their respective external stakeholders.

FIGHT LIKE JALIL

PTP PARTICIPATES IN LAKSAMANA RUN 2018 On 28 July 2018, Port of Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group participated in the Laksamana Run 2018 – Fight Like Jalil as part of the Group’s continuous commitment and support to Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation (TLJCF) and State of Johor initiative to promote healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of cancer through fun and enjoyable platform.

The event was graced and officiated by the Royal Patron of TJLCF, HH Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Puteri Johor and witnessed by HH Che Puan Khaleeda Bustamam and Dennis Muhammad Abdullah.

Also present were several high ranking officers from Johor State government and Board of Directors of TJLCF. Representing MMC Group at the event were Marco Neelsen, Chief Executive Officer of PTP and several management members of PTP. Held at Dataran Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru, the event saw more than 3,000 runners charge through various iconic destinations around Johor Bahru. Apart from the running activity, various other fun activities were organized to celebrate the program such as music performance by the local artistes, Zumba-robic exercise, exhibition, lucky draws and many more.

Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation was inspired by Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Laksamana Johor and was incorporated on 26th June 2015. The foundation aims to build a generation which is aware and emphatic towards cancer and to assist, provide relief as well as to care for cancer patients and their families while promoting public awareness in the prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer.

As responsible and proactive corporate entity, the participation of PTP in Laksamana Run 2018 was part of MMC Group’s continuous support to the cause championed by TJLCF and Johor State government in raising awareness of cancer as well as in promoting healthy lifestyle. Apart from that, the participation also aimed to strengthen relationship between the Group and its relevant business partners including the government entities and the local community.

TIJARAH RAMADHAN 2018

PTP & LPJ SHARE RAYA CHEER WITH THE LESS FORTUNATE

On 5 June 2018 – PTP together with Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor (LPJ) continue to spread the spirit of goodwill and bring joy to the local community by organizing its annual PTP – LPJ Tijarah Ramadhan Program with the local community.

Laughter and excitement filled the air as a group of 150 underprivileged families, comprising the needy, single parents as well as those from low-income families from Gelang Patah area received food aid packages and cash in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

The CSR based event was organized as part of a collaboration effort by both organizations to support and improve the living standard of local community and has been part of the organizations’ annual CSR agenda since 2011.

Each recipient received aid in the form of shopping voucher and goods worth RM250.00. The distribution of aid was made during a handover ceremony by Muhammad Razif Bin Ahmad, General Manager of LPJ and break of fast event with around 300 members of the local community held at Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Gelang Patah area.

During the handover ceremony, Muhammad Razif Bin Ahmad remarked that Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor undertakes various activities to engage and serve the underprivileged in various locations across Johor, especially in Gelang Patah and Pasir Gudang. Our community outreach programme comprises charitable activities which include, but not limited to during the holy month of Ramadhan.

“With Tijarah Ramadhan programme for example, it is important that the surrounding PTP community also benefits from the port’s growth and continued business excellence. We do not want the local folk to feel left out due to development around their village. We want the villagers to enjoy the economic spill over from the development of the port”, he added.

PTP Chief Executive Officer, Marco Neelsen said that the main objectives of the program are essentially to alleviate the living standard of the selected local communities via its line of CSR activities and to strengthen relationship between the Company and the local community .

“Tijarah Ramadhan is part of a comprehensive MMC Group’s CSR based program named MMC Prihatin where it serves as a good platform in fostering greater solidarity and community spirit between PTP and the local community. We hope that the little help that we are extending will bring about some relief to the beneficiaries of the programme in the blessed month of Ramadan and the coming of Hari Raya season”. he added.

Among this year’s recipients was a single mother of two from Kampung Ladang, Jah Bt Osman, who said that she was thankful to be a recipient of the programme for this year.

The 81-year-old said that she was looking forward to enjoying the food aid packages and cash contribution with her family.

“My family struggle to make ends meet sometimes, so our burden is lessened when we receive these items,” she said.

Another recipient, Yahaya Bin Ibrahim, 55, from Tg Adang commented that he is really grateful that PTP and LPJ have been continuously supporting the social wellbeing of the local community, especially the underprivileged people like him.

“The people of Gelang Patah and its neighbouring areas are lucky that since PTP was developed in 2000, we have received countless benefits such as employment opportunities, small business ventures or other social initiatives initiated by both PTP and LPJ.”

PTP CELEBRATES RAMADHAN MUBARAK BY

COOKING AND DISTRIBUTING SAVOURY BUBUR LAMBUK TO LOCAL COMMUNITY On 24 May 2018, in conjunction with Ramadhan Al Mubarak, PTP continues its tradition of spreading goodwill by distributing around 3000 packs of sumptuous Bubur Lambuk to hundreds of PTP community as well as to 6 selected mosques in Gelang Patah area.

With the aim to foster good relationship and celebrate the spirit of togetherness amongst PTP staff and the surrounding community, the annual Bubur Lambuk giveaway program was organized as part of a collaboration effort by PTP Management, Kelab Keluarga PTP (KKPTP) and Surau At Taqwa PTP. This year, the program was held at New PUB Building involving nearly 100 PTP volunteers from different departments and divisions. The porridge, cooked according to a traditional recipe with various herbs and spices, were also cooked and packed into containers by PTP staff while it was still steaming hot before distributing it to various locations within PTP vicinity as well as to the 6 selected mosques, namely Masjid Kg Tiram Duku, Masjid Kg Pok, Masjid Desa Paya Mengkuang, Masjid Kg Ladang, Masjid Kg Pekajang, Masjid Tg Adang and Masjid Abu Hurairah, CIQ. Also present to lend their helping hand and to commemorate the event was PTP Chief Executive Officer, Marco Neelsen, together with several of PTP Senior Team Management and Head of Departments.

This year marks the eighth (8) consecutive years since PTP first organizes its Bubur Lambuk distribution to the local community in 2010. However, unlike the previous editions, the organizing committee, including members of KKPTP and Surau At Taqwa PTP as well as the volunteers were fully involved in the whole process from preparation, cooking to the distribution of the Bubur Lambuk. The change of approach is meant to further encourage volunteerism amongst PTP staff and to foster the spirit of togetherness and goodwill in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadhan.

MMC SOUTHERN BASED SUBSIDIARIES

BUBUR LAMBUK PROGRAMME ORGANISED BY JOHOR STATE BROADCASTING DEPARTMENT AND KELAB RTM JOHOR BAHRU On 14 April 2018, Southern based MMC Group Operating Companies, PTP, Johor Port Berhad (JPB), Senai Airport City (SAC) and Senai Airport Terminal Services (SATS) participated in ‘Bubur Lambuk JOHORfm’ programme, organized by the Johor State Broadcasting Department with the collaboration of Kelab RTM Johor Bahru.

With the aim to share the joy of ‘breakfast’ to the surrounding community, the event was officiated by Yang Berhormat Sheikh ‘Umar Bagharib Ali, Johor State Executive Council and Chairman of Entrepreneurship Development, Cooperative and Creative Economy Committee together with Mr. Abdull Hadi Mohd Yusoff, Director of Johor State Broadcasting Department.

A total of 20 large pots of ‘bubur lambuk’ was prepared and cooked by the employees of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Johor and volunteers from JOHORfm, Malaysia Civil Defence Force and Johor Military Force (JMF).

Packets of the ‘bubur lambuk’ were distributed to the local communities, orphanages and government agencies.

This is the second year that MMC Group of Companies in the Southern Region participated in this programme with Johor State Broadcasting Department. The participation in this programme is to support the spirit of giving in the month of Ramadan and at the same time to strengthen our relationship with the media in the state of Johor as it is part of MMC’s media and community outreach activities.

CORPORATE ASSURANCE

ENTERPRISE RISK MANAGEMENT The Enterprise Risk Management Section (ERMS) of the Corporate Assurance Department is responsible for the management and monitoring of the company-wide risk management practice, business continuity and the corporate integrity programs and initiatives. Apart from the Head of Department, ERMS also reporting to the Risk Management Committee (RMC) headed by the Chief Executive Officer as the Risk Champion as well as to the Group Risk Management Department. Head of ERMS assumes the role of Risk Coordinator responsible for risk reporting, risk monitoring, risk advisory and risk communication for the company and departments in the company.

In our fast-paced world, the risks we have to manage to evolve quickly. We need to make sure we manage risks so that we minimise their threats and maximise their potential. Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) involves understanding, analysing and addressing the risk to make sure organisations achieve their objectives. At its essence, risk management is a logical and systematic approach to identifying, assessing, treating, monitoring and communicating risks within any activity, function or processes in the way that will enable an organisation to minimise loses and maximised opportunities.

In PTP, risk management is a part of its strategy to promote accountability through good governance and robust business practices, to support its vision, mission and core values. Because risk is inherent in everything we do, the type of roles undertaken by risk practitioners are incredibly diverse. They include roles in insurance, business continuity, health and safety, corporate governance, engineering, planning, financial services and so on.

Enterprise Risk Management Process

ERM supports the needs of the Company and MMCB Head Office. The most important element of this structure is the clear definition and communication of the roles, responsibilities and accountabilities for managing risks within the organization.

The Risk Management Committee (RMC) is essential to discuss and manage all the risks related to strategy and operations of the company. The RMC will discuss on risks, formulate strategies in managing such risks and submit the updates to the PTP’s Audit Committee (AC), PTP’s Board of Directors (BOD) and Group Risk Management Department MMC Head Office.

Relationship Between ERM, BCM and Corporate Integrity ERM and BCM share the common goals of identifying, assessing, and managing interruption risks that could serve to prevent achievement of their strategic objectives, making BCM is one component of an effective enterprise program designed to manage risk. The shorthand difference between the two is that ERM focuses at a high level on the identification, assessment, and prevention of risks.

In addition, ERM provides for resilient organizations a chance to see risks as either threats or opportunities. BCM, in contrast, is focused on the tactical needs of an organization to respond to an incident and ensure continuity of business operations, focusing on minimizing downtime, data and system loss, and the resultant threats to an enterprise’s ability to remain in business.

On the other hand, corporate integrity as ERM is also one of the good corporate governance pillars. One of the corporate integrity initiatives is the Corruption Risk Management (CRM) which adopt the principles of ERM, thus making corporate integrity complementing the ERM practices.

BUSINESS CONTINUITY MANAGEMENT Business Continuity Management (BCM) is a holistic management process that identifies potential impacts that threaten an organisation and provides a framework for building resilience and the capability for an effective response which safeguards the interests of its key stakeholders, reputation, brand and value creating activities.

PTP recognize the importance of BCM as the means to ensure that the business can continue to succeed in a time of crisis and during the recovery process. PTP ultimate goal of business continuity strategy is to build the organisation’s resilience and to ensure the delivery of services even after an external shock has damaged assets and challenged the access to necessary resources. BCM-readiness provides reassurance to internal and external stakeholders that our operations are able to meet the needs of the contingency and you are prepared for the 'worst case scenario' situations.

In relation with the ERM, BCM is a subset of broader risk management strategies and processes, focuses on risks that threaten the continuity of critical business activities.

TALK ON COMPETITION LAW On 5 June 2018, PTP’s Legal Department organised a talk for PTP’s Senior Management Team on Competition Law to give an overview on the Malaysian Competition Act 2010 that has come into force since 1 January 2012.

The Act seeks to promote and protect the process of competition by changing the behaviour of businesses. It is applicable to all commercial activities undertaken within and outside Malaysia that affect the competition in the domestic market. The implementation of the Act brings Malaysia in line with over 100 jurisdictions worldwide, including its ASEAN neighbours Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The talk by Mr. Nadarashnaraj Sargunaraj & Ms. Sharon Tan Suyin, Partners from Messrs. Zaid Ibrahim & Co. covered the salient features of the Act including the powers of Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC), definition of market share, prohibitions on anti-competitive agreements between enterprises and abuse by dominant players, and penalty in the case of infringement.

The MyCC is given considerable powers of investigation and enforcement of the Act – it may enter and search premises (commonly referred to as “dawn-raids”) and require the production of all documents and information including computerised data. Such dawn-raids may even be conducted without warrant where the MyCC’s officer believes that the delay in obtaining a warrant would jeopardise the investigation.

Agreements between enterprises are prohibited if they have the object or effect of significantly preventing, restricting or distorting competition in any market. This includes information sharing between competitors which may result in some form of price coordination. Businesses in a dominant position can no longer engage in predatory behaviour, control or limit production, supply or market access in order to damage or force its competitors out of the market.

The Act affects businesses extraterritorially. Commercial activities transacted outside Malaysia will be caught by the Act if they have an effect on competition in Malaysia The Act considers a parent company and its subsidiaries as a single enterprise where, despite their separate legal entity, they form a single economic unit within which subsidiaries do not enjoy real autonomy in determining their actions on the market.

Non-compliance with the Competition Act 2010 will affect not only enterprises but their directors, management and employees too. It can result in possible criminal prosecution, government investigation, heavy fines of up to 10% of their worldwide turnover, imprisonment and civil liability.

The talk ended with an interactive discussion session on some recent cases by MyCC and the potential issues on Competition Law for the port industry. This informative talk will hopefully give the attendees a better understanding of the Competition Act 2010 in order to assist PTP in changing our processes, procedures and behaviour to ensure compliance with the Act and to prove that we have taken all reasonable precautions and exercised due diligence to prevent the commission of any offence under the Act.

PTP SAFETY DAY 2018

STRONGER & SAFER TOGETHER On 2 May 2018, PTP held its annual safety day program, together with Maersk Line, APM Terminals, Pelepas Terminal Inland Services Sdn Bhd (PTIS) and DAMCO Logistics Malaysia Sdn. Bhd with the aim to empower safety and health culture that can help to reduce the number of work-related incidents each year in the work place. The event, organized in conjunction with APM Terminals Global Safety Day 2018 was held at PUB Building and attended by more than 500 PTP staff as well as PTP contractors, customers and business partners.

The event was attended and launched by PTP Chief Executive Officer, Marco Neelsen. Also present were Mario Alberto Escobar Martinez, Managing Director of PTIS, Siti Asma Abdul Gani, representative from Maersk Line and Woo Kok Ping, representative from DAMCO other MMC and PTP Senior Management Team.

With “Stronger and Safer Together� as the theme for this year campaign, the event emphasises on the importance of working together to build strong safety culture as well as accepting full responsibility in identifying unsafe conditions and unsafe work-practices, and intervene to improve them accordingly.

Various interesting activities were organized throughout the event such as Safety Talk, free health and dental check-up, fatal 5 and safety exhibition, Divisional Tool Box Talk and many more. A prize giving ceremony was also held to acknowledge PTP staff and contractors who have showcased outstanding and exemplary performance in safety throughout last year.

A One Minute of Silence session was also organized during the opening ceremony to honour and remember those who have unfortunately passed away while working in the port and maritime industry.

During the main event, Marco Neelsen had also successfully launched a Fatal 5 Campaign. The campaign is part of an ongoing initiative by APM Terminals ports around the world in rolling out its Fatal-5 Standards, which were critical areas identified as the highest risk areas to focus on in order to eliminate fatalities and further promote safe operations, which are underpinned by minimum controls on each of the five critical areas.

Malaysians generate about 30,000 metric tonnes of rubbish each day. Plastic makes up about 13% of our solid waste stream, which means about 4000 metric tonnes of plastic waste are generated in Malaysia each day.

Plastic doesn’t decompose. It just gets smaller. Over a time a single plastic bottle can break up into over 10,000 pieces of microplastic. Microplastics act as a toxic sponge. Studies show that it can be 1 million times more toxic than the water around it.

FREEZONE TENANTS WITH PTP CHAIRMAN On 15 May 2018, Free Zone Development Department has successfully organised an engagement session for Free Zone tenants with our PTP’s Chairman, Dato’ Sri Che Khalib. The engagement session was held at the Board Room, Level 5 Wisma A. A total of 13 representatives which comprised of Directors, CEOs and other senior management personnel from MIDF, Axis REIT, CJ Century Logistics, Tasco, Tiong Nam, Trinity Bliss (Mapletree) and THAB PTP (Boustead) attended the session and spent more than 2 hours with PTP Chairman and PTP Management Team. The 6 companies account for 70% of Free Zone warehousing investments.

Also present during the session were MMC Ports Group CEO, Ian Brian James, CEO of PTP, Marco Neelsen, Head of Commercial Division, Prakash Thurairasasingam and Head of Free Zone Department, V. Sathya.

During the session, the tenants engaged actively our Chairman on important aspects of their business such as warehousing space, rental rates, land lease rates, minimum throughput contributions (MTC), ease and cost of doing business inside Free Zone. Our Chairman has courteously fielded all questions from the participants and recommended several initiatives to address their queries and concerns.

ZERO FALLING OBJECT On 15 May 2018, PTP Engineering Division and Health, Safety & Environment Department (HSE) had successfully organized a Zero Falling Object Campaign. The event, held at Engineering Division Parking Lot Area saw the participation of around 100 staff and contractors.

With the aim to create better awareness on the danger of falling objects amongst Engineering staff and contractors, the campaign helps Engineering Management Team to promote safe culture and environment as well as to strengthen solidarity amongst Engineering staff and further empower employee engagement culture.

The Campaign was officially launched by Arthur De Jonge, Head Division of Engineering. Also present were several Engineering and HSE Management Team.

Various activities organise during the event such as Safety Helmet Exchange, Street Exhibition, Safety Talk by HSSE Reps and Falling Object Demonstrations by Engineering safety committee.

Zero Falling Object Campaign is organized as part of an ongoing initiative by PTP in rolling out its Fatal-5 Standards, launched in early May during PTP Safety Day 2018 to emphasize company intention on promoting and creating a safety and health culture that can help to reduce the number of work-related incidents each year.

PROJECT INTEGRATION

PROJECT INTEGRATION 2017 was a very busy and challenging year for Project Integration Division.

A series of equipment refurbishment, terminal upgrading and acquisition projects such as installing and moving cranes, strengthening the berth and acquisition of the 8 EEE Quay Cranes have been successfully executed to improve our operational capability.

In 2018, the team continues to execute the channel dredging works that was kicked off last year. The works, which will increase the current draft from 16 meters to 18.5 meters, are expected to be completed in Q3 to accommodate the EEE Vessel and other new generation of mega vessel that will berth at PTP. Simultaneously, the team is proactively preparing for other range of projects, including a series of equipment refurbishment program that includes the refurbishment of the 35 older IMPSA RTG's, 5 Noell and 5 ZPMC A cranes as well as the future development of free zone areas On the other hand, with equipment refurbishment program, a mid-cycle equipment performance review and inspection plan programme will come into practice where all of our equipment will be periodically inspected and assessed to ensure equipment life-cycle readiness and future maintenance strategy are always in check.

Apart from the current projects, Project Integration team is also looking at PTP's long term future work. The team is now in the midst of evaluating several future improvement projects as well as at expansion plans.

Today, PTP’s commitment and dedication towards this improvement effort is starting to be acknowledged by the industry when we have been shortlisted as one of the finalists by Lloyds List Asia for the Best Port Infrastructure Development 2017 Category.

By investing in equipment and facilities, as well as channel dredging, PTP is further establishing itself as one of the best equipped and most technologically advanced terminal port in the region. This continuous investment is therefore critical to ensure PTP progresses well with the rapid changes within the port and shipping industry and subsequently meet the growing customer demand.

ENTERPRISE RESOURCES PLANNING In an effort to provide the best solution for the ever growing PTP’s day to day operations, PTP is set to embark on a project to implement a new Enterprise Resources Planning Software System (ERP). The project, spearheaded by IT Division and owned by various business divisions involved, consists of business software that integrates the management of core business processes such as Finance, Purchasing, Engineering, Facility Services, Inventory, Human Resource and Payroll.

This project, estimated to be 15 months, has already been set in motion after a successful kick-off on 16th May 2018. New ERP system will improve the quality and efficiency of PTP's business by keeping PTP's internal processes running smoothly with increased collaboration as well as providing vital information to the management for decision making.

For PTP employees, there will be an intuitive - Self-Service HR portal, where employees will be able to perform – on click/touch of a button, various personnel services such as checking attendance, applying leave and expenses claim status, all while being on the go via dedicated mobile apps!

CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS 16th July 2018, In an effort to reinforce the level of awareness amongst PTP staff towards Cyber Security, Information & Technology Division had successfully conducted a one day Cybersecurity Awareness Briefing.

To keep the momentum of what you have learnt during the session, we have compiled a list of things you should be thinking about whenever you are using the Internet.

You have probably heard many or all of these tips before, but repetition does not spoil the prayer. If you take security seriously, you are already using tools such as updated anti-virus or built-in firewall of your operating system to protect your computer from malware, ransomware, and other advanced threats.

How to protect your self from cyber crime 1.

Don’t ever say “It won’t happen to me.” because you are always an attractive target to hackers.

2.

Practice good password management. Use a strong mix of characters such as P+PP@$$, and don’t use the same password for multiple sites.

3.

Don’t share your password with others, don’t write it down somewhere that is easily noticeable, and definitely don’t write it on a post-it note attached to your monitor.

4.

Never leave your devices such as mobile, tablet, or laptop unattended. If you need to leave your devices for any length of time, no matter how short, lock your screen with password so no one can use it while you’re not around.

5.

Always beware when clicking on any attachments or links in your email. Do not click on any suspicious link or attachment.

6.

Sensitive browsing, such as online banking or online shopping, should only be performed on a device that belongs to you, on a home or office networks that you trust. Your data could be copied or stolen if you use a friend’s phone, a public computer, or a cafe’s free Wi-Fi.

7.

Always back up your data regularly, and your anti-virus software must always be up to date.

8.

Be cautious of what you plug in to your computer. Any type of malicious software such as malware or ransomware can be spread through infected flash drives, or external hard drives, and even smartphones.

9.

Watch what you’re sharing on social media networks. Criminals will try to befriend you in order to easily gain access to your information.

10.

If someone unknown calls or emails you asking for sensitive information such as bank account number, you should always say no. You can call the company directly to verify credentials before giving out any information.

11.

Monitor your bank accounts, email accounts, social media accounts for any suspicious activity. If you see something unfamiliar, it could be a sign that your accounts have been compromised.

V.SATHYA Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is V. Sathya and I was originally born in Kuala Lumpur and later at 11 years of age moved to Teluk Intan, Perak with my parents and siblings. I am currently the Head of Department for Free Zone Development, under Commercial Division. I am happily married to my wife, Krishna and together, we have a lovely daughter named Haimi.

Education wise after finishing my secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Sains Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang, I had enrolled in a pre-medical course in India. I finished my course in 1997 and was on the verge of obtaining scholarship from Malaysian Public Service Department to study medicine there. However, the 1997 economic crisis that hit Asian economies including Malaysia has caused the Malaysian government to halt award of the scholarships to many Malaysian students studying abroad as part of the austerity drive. Hence, like many any other students studying abroad during that period, I had to come back to Malaysia.

Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my wife and our lovely new-born daughter and also with my parents and siblings. I also like to read all kind of materials that interests me and watch television. Apart from that, I do try to keep myself healthy by going for a jog at least three times a week.

It was a difficult period for many of the returning students as we could not readily be placed in local universities due to insufficient seats and we were at crossroads. 9 months later, I came across an advertisement in the newspaper for Diploma sponsorship programme to study Marine Engineering in Singapore Polytechnic. Swiftly I applied and successfully obtained the sponsorship.

Upon graduation, I started my career as Junior Commercial Executive in a Singapore Government linked company named Singapore Technologies Marine which is involved in shipbuilding and repair business. After a two year stint with them, I was offered to continue my Degree in Materials Engineering in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore which of course I accepted. After completion of the Degree programme, I came back to serve Singapore Technologies Marine, this time its subsidiary which focuses on Environmental Technology business. Here I had assumed the role as a Commercial Engineer. My five years with Singapore Technologies group have exposed me to a highly globalised, competitive and charged work environment. During this time I have developed extensively my negotiation and presentation skills, learned to handle

What I enjoy most about my work is the nature of the work itself.

It encompasses the challenges that come with it, the people that I deal with and of course the end results that keep me motivated.

What is your leadership style?

I believe in empowerment of people. As a Head of department, I like to empower my team members so that they become independent, more accountable and take greater ownership and pride of their work. In this way, they possess more freedom and flexibility when discharging their duties Apart from that, I infuse transparency and openness in our communications so that we are coordinated as a team and develop high levels of trust.

What are the things that your colleague might not know about you?

Most probably my age because for some reasons unknown to me, I always get asked by people, especially my colleagues and customers about my age. Well, I will keep them guessing.

What is your life motto?

I believe in simplicity and moderation. When both combined, we could approach people easily and vice versa. In work, complex matters when simplified become more comprehensible to people and easier to follow. It stimulates people to work more objectively because they understand what needs to be done and how. Whereas moderation averts hostility among team members and promotes win-win situations most of the time.

What would you like to see in the future at PTP? I hope PTP can continue growing like it does today with increased vigour and dynamicity under the able leadership of current management. We have witnessed and continuing to witness structural changes to the administration style over the last two years and which I strongly think will be beneficial to aspiring employees who wish to grow in terms of career together with the company. I wish to see the positive spill overs reaching the local community whereby more and more of them have the opportunity to grow with PTP like some of them do today. This can be in terms of employment opportunities as staff and also as contractors. This type of symbiosis between locals and PTP will spur local economy thus creating prosperous society and townships. It only means a better place for all our children to grow up.

QUAY CRANE OPERATOR

AZMAN NASRAN Tell us a little bit about yourself My name is Azman Nasran and I am currently 42 years of age. I am married to Mazlina Binti Md Zain, a nurse at Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Center Khor & Loh, Johor Bahru and a father of two children. My eldest daughter is now 14 years old, Alia Natrah and my second child, Alia Najiha is now 1 year of age.

I am originally born and raised in Kampung Pasir, Tampoi but now living in Taman Nusa Indah. I joined PTP on 15 February 2000 as a QCC On Board. Since PTP was only commencing its operations at that time, there were still not many staff and because of that I was given the opportunity to do various job roles in PTP operations such as prime mover driver, RTG operator and Yard Chief Clerk. I am now a crane operator.

Before joining PTP, I was studying at Institut Kemahiran Mara, Sungai Petani, Kedah. I was supposed to continue my studies in Diploma but had to stop because of the financial crisis that happened in 1997 – 1998. So, during my studies break, I decided to work so I can save money to help me with my tuition fee. I worked at a factory near my house until I completed my studies.

Once I graduated, my sister, who was already working in PTP at that time told me that PTP was looking for many operations staff and since I was already looking forward to work, I decided to try my luck and went for the interview and got accepted. Interestingly, when I was about to report duty in PTP, I had also received an offer to become a custom officer. So after I talked to my parents and consult them accordingly, they advised me to take the offer from PTP instead.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I think first and foremost, you need to have an interest towards your job. Without interest, it would be very difficult for you to do your job and be consistent with it. One of the most enjoyable aspects of my work is the freedom that I have in doing my job. In PTP, the Management, or in my case, my supervisor or my boss always empowered me to do my role as a crane operator. They trust you with your job and in return all you need to do is to be discipline and trustworthy.

What are the things that your colleagues do not know about you?

Having been in PTP for almost 18 years, I think there are nothing that can surprise my friends and colleagues about me. However, for those who do not really know me very well, I may come across as someone who is unfriendly, arrogant or hot tempered person. The truth is, I am very friendly, cool headed and likes to play prank with my friends. Maybe the misconception happens because of my relaxed and calm appearance and demeanor.

Outside of work, I also like to do gardening. I like to plant flowers and spend times taking care of my garden as it always brings the sense of tranquility to me.

What is your biggest achievement in PTP? In my years of service in PTP, I am fortunate enough to win several recognitions. The most recent when I was awarded with Best Quay Crane Operator award for three consecutive months including during the Operations Staff Recognition Ceremony held in conjunction with PTP Family Day 2018.

What is your motto?

I always believe that successful people are those who are brave and always ready to take control of their action. To be successful, one cannot be a shy person or afraid to ask question. If you don’t know a thing, find someone who can give the answer and use the knowledge for the betterment of not only yourself but also your community.

Also, as a Muslim, I believe that we need to be grateful to what we have and ready to share with others, especially those who are in need of assistance, especially your parents. Be patience in the face of challenges. When I first came to PTP, my salary was really small and I had to endure many hardships. But my parents told me to be patient and be grateful of what I get. The truth is we are lucky to work in PTP as it is a very stable company, especially in terms of financial and the facilities we have here are very good. if you are patient and brave enough to face all the challenges, things will always get better.

What would you like to see in the future at PTP? I hope the Management Team can continue with the proactive approach that they have taken especially in resolving several issues related to the equipment and staff facilities. I have seen various improvement initiatives happening around me and I laud the Management for that. I personally like the fact that it is now easier to communicate within the Operations team. We have a group WhatsApp and everybody, including the COO, Managers, Supervisors and operators are very responsive towards any matters related with our daily job or needs. Having said that, I wish the Management Team can continue listening to our voice and keep such interest close at their heart and effort.

The Port of Hamburg is located between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The Port is Germany's largest port and is also known as the country's "Gateway to the World".

In terms of TEU throughput, Port of Hamburg is the second-busiest port in Europe (after Rotterdam) and is 15th-largest worldwide.

The harbour covers an area of 73.99 km² (64.80 km² usable), of which 43.31 km² (34.12 km²) are land areas. The Port of Hamburg’s geographical location and very good performance make it Germany’s leading foreign trade hub.

Operated under the management of Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), the major terminal operator is the HHLA group which has three terminals under its line of operations out of the four terminals: •

The Buchardkai terminal for container is the biggest of the three terminals operated by the HHLA Group. In totality, it has a nine berth berthing capacity is spread over an area extending to over a million square metres.

The Altenwerder terminal for container has a four berth container berthing capacity and is spread over an area of one million square metres.

•

Tollerort terminal is the smallest container terminal operated by the HHLA conglomerate with an area of 6, 00,000 square metres, having a four berth container berthing capacity.

•

The fourth terminal in the port of Hamburg is the Eurogate terminal. Having an area of over a million square metres, the terminal has a six berth container berthing capacity and forms a part of the operations of the conglomerate Eurogate.

Apart from these terminals for container vessels, the port of Hamburg has an addition of couple of cruise ship terminals – HafenCity and Altona. The port also caters to bulk cargo and dry cargo ships and its terminal statistics for these ships in transit is placed at 42. The port has a very good demarcating system for dry cargo vessels and bulk cargo vessels which adds to the systematic operations of the Hamburg port.

The Hamburg port is a vital cog in the shipping operations of Germany. Placed very conveniently in terms of geography, the Port of Hamburg forms a major link between the Eastern and Central parts of the Continent and accounts for 25% of the interior shipping activities of the country.

As the country’s largest universal port, Hamburg is of vital importance for supplies to European domestic markets with a consumer population of up to 450 million.

The cutting-edge technology of its cargo handling facilities and data communications systems, its efficient transport infrastructure and its excellent feeder and hinterland links create the essential conditions for exchanging goods with worldwide trading partners. The port also discharges a crucial function in supply and waste disposal logistics for industry in Hamburg and the Metropolitan Region.

Hamburg’s facilities can clear ships of all types and handle goods of almost all categories. Besides the container terminals, there are multi-purpose terminals for loading heavy cargoes, conventional general cargoes and project shipments, while others handle grab, suction and liquid cargoes.

The universal port annually generates added value totalling around 20 billion euros throughout the country. More than 260,000 jobs in Germany are related to the Port of Hamburg.
