HIGHLIGHTS
Happy New Year! As we embark on 2020, I would like to first thank all of you for your commitment and dedication to PTP. 2019 OVERVIEW The global economic uncertainties have undermined global port cargo handling activities and consequently our throughput growth. To counter these uncertainties and make PTP fit for future we have introduced, “PTP Way of Working” framework. This includes the elements of Operating System (OS), Lean For All problem-solving tools and PTP Values as part of a change in the dynamic on how we approach our business and working culture.
To ensure transparency, extensive collaborations and network dynamic between PTP Management and members of Kesatuan Pekerja-Pekerja Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas (KPPPTP), an all-inclusive “Smart Partnership” concept was sealed with the signing of 3rd Collective Agreement between the two parties. Last but not least, our CSR collaboration efforts with key stakeholders, namely government agencies and business partners continue to progress the socio and economic status of the local community. In 2019, together with Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor (LPJ) and Pelepas Terminal Inland Services Sdn Bhd (PTIS), we had successfully built and handed over the first container library, equipped conducive facilities and extensive new reading materials to students of S.K Ladang Pendas, Gelang Patah. 2020 JOURNEY
Apart from that, our Safety Transformation Journey was further reinforced with the restructuring of our HSE functions. Through a more focused effort and alignment with global best practices, various initiatives were introduced such as the introduction of Flashing Safety Helmet initiative, Safety Hero Program, Learning Team initiative as well as the launching of PTP Visual Standard Manual Version 1.2 and Safety Culture Survey involving both our staff and contractors.
Global economic circumstances are expected to remain volatile. In line with the continuous improvement in working standard and customer service excellence in mind, PTP Way of Working framework, reintroduction of PTP new Mission, Vision and Core Values will be the key focus for 2020. Change management process which includes cross function collaboration and involvement by everyone to identify and eliminate excessive ‘waste’ while employing smart savings will be reinforced further.
Our total throughput target was initially set at 9.5 million TEUs but due to the economic volatility surrounding the industry, we only managed to secure a total throughput of 9.1 million TEUs in 2019. With the increase in business operating costs and the drop-in revenue due to such decrease in volume, this is certainly a source of concern that we need to manage seriously.
Our safety transformation will also proceed with more improvement and enhancement initiatives that will be introduced in the Phase 2 journey, particularly with the integration of Way of Working components.
Despite the lower handling volume, due to various operational improvement initiatives, our average Terminal PMPH productivity has been registered at 78.0 against 75.6 recorded in 2018. Few milestones were also accomplished, including becoming the first port in SEA to welcome world’s largest container vessel, MSC Gulsun and subsequently etching world record load of 19,574 TEUs against 19,284 TEUs set by Monaco Maersk earlier. While this is surely a positive news, it also very important to keep our productivity level at the highest to ensure operations and customer service excellence. Additionally, PTP Free Zone volume also increased by 15% with nearly all free zone land taken up. This achievement comes at the back of an increase in our local cargo volume as well as our effort to bring more world’s renowned brands to reside in our free zone, most notably include the commencing of Volkswagen Group’s Asia Pacific Parts Distribution Centre in February and the Decathlon Regional Distribution Centre for SEA in District Park B in July of the same year. In line with our aspiration to become a smart solutions port, we had successfully migrated our new terminal operating system Navis N4 in July with no major operational disruptions. With Navis N4 in operation, the system provides improved performance and scalability to meet the future expected volume growth of PTP. Other notable technological improvement (digitalisation) and automation for the terminal also include the upgrading of 4G LTE network, introduction of port workers productivity application as well as the upgrading of current Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) system and an MOU signing of the studies of autonomous driving terminal tractors program as witnessed by the Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke Siew Fook in June last year. PTP workforce is the backbone and the greatest asset for the company. Today, we are proactively exploring development opportunities for the future leaders of the company via internal succession planning program as well as through academia collaboration and attachment programs such as the Young Engineer Apprenticeship Program (YEAP) and Port Operations Planning Apprentice (POPA). Furthermore, we have also started an extensive Short-Term Assignment (STA) program where we have sent our colleagues out to various APM Terminals facilities to learn as well as to support the teams over there.
More focus and effort to increase our local and transhipment cargo will be put forth. To achieve such, we need to execute our key customers and expansion strategy seamlessly while leveraging our value prepositions accordingly. The productivity level and SLA target will no doubt be getting more challenging as we have started to gain more attraction as the trust and confidence of our customers build up. Nonetheless, these challenges must be recognized and overcome by every one of us to ensure that we are able to deliver our 2020 throughput target of 9.6 million TEUs accordingly. These key strategic priorities for 2020 are critical to our business sustainability. To help us in achieving this target, the 8 new EEE Quay Cranes and 10 RTGs acquired in 2019 will expect to arrive in PTP between Q1 and Q2 of 2020 and will further optimise our operations respectively. On facility upgrade, the channel deepening project will also proceed as planned to meet its 18.5 meters to cater for the latest and largest container vessel depth requirement. This project is scheduled to complete in Q3 2020. Last but not least, our digitalisation and digitisation journey will continue with the integration of PTP back-end ERP application system covering Finance, Procurement, HR, Project Integration and Asset Management all on the same platform. At the same time, we will also set to introduce Asset Digitisation program that involves developing a fleet monitoring tool capable of providing real time location and condition monitoring soon. The outset of 2020 operating business is set to be more challenging than ever. It is therefore very crucial of us to stay focus and weather the storm decisively. As such, I ask each of you to stay unified and continue to reinforce our commitment and dedication in giving our best to PTP. As we embark on another year, I wish you and your family a healthy and prosperous year ahead. Terima kasih.

Section 17A
Takes effect from 1 June 2020, provides that “a commercial organisation commits an offence if any person associated with the commercial organisation commits a corrupt act (i.e. gives, agrees to give, promises or offers to any person any gratification) in order to obtain or retain business or advantage for the commercial organisation”.
Whilst a commercial organisation comprises: • a company incorporated under Companies Act 2016 and carries on business in Malaysia or elsewhere; • a company wherever incorporated and carries on business or part of a business in Malaysia; and • a partnership (limited as well as unlimited - local and foreign, with foreign partnerships carrying on part of their businesses in Malaysia;); • a person associated with the commercial organisation consists of a Director, a Partner, an Employee, or a person who performs services for or on behalf of the commercial organisation. S17A (3) provides where an offence has been committed by a commercial organisation, a person who is a Director, Controller, Officer or who is concerned in the management of the commercial organisation’s affairs at the time of commission of the offence is deemed to have committed that offence. The onus is now shifted to the commercial organisation, its Directors, Partners, and Management to demonstrate that they have put in place adequate procedures to deter persons associated with the commercial organisation from committing corrupt acts of gratification. The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department has, in December 2018, issued pertinent Guidelines on Adequate Procedures (“Ministerial Guidelines”), covering five (5) key principles on how Adequate Procedures may be developed as lines of defence for the commercial organisation as well as those charged with governance and management of the organisation.

Integrity: Corruption Prevention
CORPORATE
TRUST’ key principles : op-level Commitment – Directors, partners or anyone concerned in the management of the organisation’s affairs must be directly involved to ensure the organisation complies with the applicable anti-corruption laws and regulations. isk Assessment – Risk assessments must be conducted at regular intervals to identify the evolving risk of corruption. The findings of this assessment should be documented and regularly reviewed.. ndertaking Control Measures – Appropriate contingency measures, which include due diligence and stringent financial controls, to address corruption risks identified must be in place. ystematic Review, Monitoring, and Enforcement – The effectiveness and efficiency of the organisation’s anti-corruption policies must be regularly reviewed and assessed. raining and communication – The organisation’s anti-corruption policies not only must be disseminated both internally and externally, but regular and relevant training must be provided to the organisation’s members and external stakeholders.
The penalties, upon conviction, may entail a fine of not less than (10) times the value of the gratification or RM1 million, whichever is higher; AND/OR a jail sentence not exceeding twenty (20) years. In view of the hefty penalties, it is crucial for Directors, Partners and Management to have systems in place to prevent the commission of such offences.
It is now indeed timely and prudent for commercial organisations to take immediate steps to review its policies and to implement robust compliance programmes in anticipation of this new corporate liability regime. This is especially so in light of the short compliance timeframe, the risk of personal liability of senior personnel and the heavy penalty imposed. The enforcement of corporate liability will commence as of 1 June 2020 as such, PTP through its Enterprise Risk Management Section of Corporate Assurance Department is currently preparing the Anti Bribery Anti-Corruption (ABAC) Policy and Framework. Thereafter to be followed by a series of initiatives to address the gaps that have been identified, guided by the T.R.U.S.T. principles in order to establish the necessary measures to prevent corruption from happening, and also provide a defence for the organisation against corporate liability as introduced by the MACC (Amendment) Act 2018.of defence for the commercial organisation as well as those charged with governance and management of the organisation.

Pinning Stations
Incentive Apps Initiative Incentivizing the movement of boxes can be done safely. In line with the Chief Operating Officer’s mantra “Safe Productivity” Joe Schofield was confident conflict could be avoided if the APP was designed with safety embedded. Joe commented working with the PTP IT Tech team from the earliest stage meant safety wasn’t bolted on. I made it clear when the Terminal Tractor was in motion the APP had to be disabled. I know the risks presented by distracted drivers and I was determined I would do everything in my power to eliminate this risk. I was adamant that when incentivization happened it would be done with more than just productivity in mind. So, the APP has a motion sensor and is disabled once the vehicle is in use, meaning safety risks have been avoided and our customers are happier because the GMPH and PMPH are higher and consistently so.
Reducing Risk to pin-men Under the Crane by providing Load pinning stations (safe-haven) was the dream of Joe Schofield Chief Operating Officer, PTP Hub Terminal. Joe was determined to move the safety needle. With 60 Quay Cranes and 1000’s of terminal tractor movements each and every day the potential wasn’t going away. This potential risk exists at many of APM terminals because they are manual. So, at PTP we believed that reducing risk to pin-men was necessary. When visiting terminals it is common practice to observe pin-men shielding themselves behind gear boxes which gives a false sense of security. We have all heard how drivers discharging or loading have a “can do” approach whilst moving boxes. This can mean they become inadvertently desensitized when driving near pin men under the crane. Providing a brightly colored pinning station brings awareness to the presence of operatives in the trafficked area. Why are pinning stations helpful? We believe in Maersk’s overall strategy driving improved customer service. Incidents cause delays to vessel sailings and that negatively impacts the net promotor score. Less incidents supports our Lean agenda by taking out waste and improves staff motivation. Oh and by the way this mitigation measure is interim, PTP works in collaboration with its partner Navis and will remove all pin men from under the crane when loading and discharging vessels, soon.
Flashing Safety Helmets
Joe Schofield, Chief Operating Officer of PTP Hub Terminal in Malaysia promotes safe productivity. That’s his belief and its having a positive impact on the safety culture at the terminal. When most people leave the terminal as they drive home they gradually switch off, not Joe. Late one evening he was scrolling the internet for improvement opportunities to PPE under the crane. He spotted Flashing Safety Helmets, used in the Highways and Construction sectors where operatives are in the presence of mobile equipment that move suddenly, and the vulnerable operatives are often facing the other direction and work in the dark. You might be thinking why was PTP considering more PPE, this is a retrograde step…..but automating or implementing technology that predicts the collision between mobile equipment and an operative is yet to be developed for the port industry and would disrupt delivery. So, upgrading the last form of defence was a necessary step forward. This is relevant to Maersk’s overall strategy because it drives positive customer service. Incidents cause delays to vessel sailings and that impacts their net promotor score. Less incidents supports our Lean agenda by taking out waste and improving staff motivation. 20

Thiagu Krishnan General Manager, Terminal Operations
Tell us a bit about yourself and how long have you worked at PTP? My name is Thiagu Krishnan and I was born in Kuala Ketil, Kedah and started my education in Labis. I am married to a wonderful lady from Seremban and have been blessed with 2 girls aged 10 & 14 years old respectively. Education wise, I obtained Diploma Logistic in 2003 from Sedaya Collage, a collaboration Programme with PTP and obtained Masters in Entrepreneurship under Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2013. My career journey began at PSA in 1992 as a lasher and later become on board clerk. In between 1992 to 1999, while working as Lasher, enrolled myself in soft skill trainings as development plan. Most memorable highlight of my career at PSA was being awarded as High Performing Safety Onboard Clerk in a room full of the Leaders which inspired me to take on a new journey. I answered an advertisement call in The Star and o_cially joined PTP in 16 September 1999 as a supervisor handling the 1st Berth in PTP. From there, I was promoted to Executive to Duty Manager (Shift Manager) and later was seconded to Jamaica Port for a cross training program. Following years, I was then promoted to OLM Manager, Interim Planning Manager and to where I am currently as the General Manager Terminal Operations Management.
What do you enjoy the most about your work? The thing about working for a busy port that never sleeps such as PTP is that I am constantly occupied. There is no calm water which is why I love my job. It becomes a motivation for me as those situations, or challenges allows me to learn new things and discover more opportunities. Being an operation person, seeing a ship sail out of with full load of container gives me such a sense of accomplishment. The mere realization that that was actually done by us, done by PTP gives me such satisfaction and I treasure all these moments. To that, I am very thankful to Mr Steven Yoogalingam (currently the CEO for Aqaba Container Terminal) that believe in me and encouraged me to join the Global Transformation Programme (GT). The 1-year programme which was organized to improve terminal operating efficiency was a game changer for me. It changed my perspective from seeing problems to opportunities. Any shortcoming now is an opportunity to improve the process, improve ourselves and improve overall performance. Most importantly, one of the things I learnt was that behavioural change won’t happen overnight. Behaviour is driven by how we manage it and seeing a problem as an opportunity to new things.

What is your best achievement so far working in PTP? For me, it was creating a world record with 342 BMPH (berth move per hour) when handling the biggest container vessel during that time - Mc Kenny Moller Maersk. I can still remember that night, I was the Duty Manager and the whole team was working at our highest efficiency with containers zooming in high speed. It was such a proud moment for my team and myself.
What would you like to see in the future at PTP and your role in it? PTP has achieved plenty of milestones. However, I would really like to see PTP handle 10 Million TEUS in a year. Seeing how things are, highly likely PTP would be able to achieve this in 2021. Aside to that, I am also keen to groom our young managers to steer the future of PTP. A good way that I would love to see and be involved in, is a collaboration and synergy within MMC Group that promotes the talent exchange program. Through this programme, we could share and learn the best practice to improve our safety performance and operational efficiency.
What are the things that your colleagues do not know about you? There a few things that my colleagues do not know about me. The most notable one I keep getting is that people will always think that I am a Johorean where in fact, I am from Kuala Ketil, Kedah. Other than that, during my free time I like to play futsal, running or occasionally snooker. Back in my schooling days, I used to represent my school and district level for 5KM & 10KM running and as well football. Last but not least, I am a very family-oriented person, I spend most of my time with my family.
