grounds of the park. All instruction is carried out under the guidance of master artists and artisans – go to our webpage for all the details of this year’s learning experiences. As always there will be a fur traders village complete with blacksmith shop and of course the justly famous “Baby’s Fry Bread” tent with the world’s best fry bread featuring bannock, chicken cordon bleu, sausage, or fruit fillings. Guests can order a plain fry bread or one with a dash of cinnamon sugar. Local naturalist Dick Oehlenschlager will provide interpretive talks about the flora and fauna of the region as well as guided tours along the park’s “bog walk” interpretive trail. You can practice throwing a tomahawk or shooting a BB gun, or build a bluebird house, paint a barn quilt, or learn to square dance. Artisans will demonstrate a host of fascinating crafts, including birch bark canoe building, canoeing skills, pit fired pottery, wheel thrown pottery, woodworking and wood carving, lace making, dried flower arranging, leather work, blacksmithing, painting, and basket making. Guests at the Rendezvous can watch, or they can actually practice a new art.

Wadena is an Ojibway word meaning ‘Little Round Hill’. When the Northern Pacific Railroad crossed the country in 1872, a new town formed around the depot 15 miles west of the old post and was given the name ‘Wadena’ after the old townsite Wadena. Located at the crossroads of Highways 10 and 71, nestled in the heart of Central Minnesota, Wadena is surrounded by numerous lakes and rivers.

he Wadena Development Authority (WDA) is the economic and community development arm of the City of Wadena. Formed in 1984, the WDA is celebrating over 35 years of ”Creating Conditions for Doing Business.” From humble beginnings and the generosity of local business owners, trying to raise a few dollars to create a small loan fund of around $20,000, the WDA now manages a loan fund with assets exceeding a million dollars as well as managing over 70 acres of land dedicated for development. We have cultivated a relationship with the Small Business Development Center, to provide a high level of business planning and development assistance to local entrepreneurs. We also maintain close ties to other regional organizations like the Region Five Development Commission, the Initiative Foundation, a local office of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), and Small Business Development Center (SBDC), giving the community access to other services and loan funds. The City of Wadena has a strong base of infrastructure to support business development in the community, including comparatively low municipal water and electricity rates, with plenty of excess capacity to meet your business needs. With two providers offering high speed data access, a strong local community and technical college, a growing state-of-the-art health care facility, and excellent recreational facilities, the support services for progressive businesses are in place. Wadena continues a long relationship working with DEED to provide the best tools to grow your business. Providing tax breaks for new and expanding businesses, TIF and tax abatement, DEED loan and redevelopment programs are available through the WDA. As you can see, the Wadena community has a great deal to offer. The WDA has partnered with the Wadena-Deer Creek School District to promote and support an entrepreneurship curriculum as well as a continual trades program. These
programs foster a spirit of enterprise and entrepreneurship in local high school students interested in starting a new business locally. The Wadena Development Authority has been “Creating Conditions for Doing Business” for 30 plus years, and conditions have never been better. Come see me at the Wadena Development Authority and see how we can create even better conditions for YOUR business. For more information contact the Wadena Development Authority, Dean Uselman, Director, (218) 631-7710 or e-mail wda@wadena.org. 222 2nd St SE, Wadena, MN 56482. www.wadena.org.

hat do the decorative art deco street lights that grace Wadena’s main street, and the restored Depot in Burlington Northern Park share in common? They are both projects that Partners for a Healthy Wadena Region spearheaded. The street light project is complete, and Depot in Wadena continues to be the cornerstone for Partners’ activity in the community. During open hours the Depot is open to the public with its display of railroad memorabilia and historic photographs of the railroad history of Wadena. health vulnerable time in Deb’s life, Ayesha and the rest of the TriCounty infusion therapy team were there to help guide her through every step of treatment.
Building a bright future
Amanda, pregnant with her second child, was nervous about starting off with a new provider. At times, Amanda just needed a shoulder to cry on and a supportive voice, and Dr. DuChene was there to provide positivity and support through it all. This experience has built Amanda’s optimism about the health and happiness of her family’s future.
A life-saving diagnosis
Kari scheduled an appointment with her primary care provider following a trip to the ER for a panic attack and severe anxiety. After years of seeing Kari as her patient, Dr. Adams knew she was not acting like herself and something was off, so she scheduled an ultrasound that ended up discovering an early stage of ovarian cancer.

Making his day
David was in the hospital last October and missed out on his Halloween work party and other festivities. After hearing about it, his nurse, Amber, decided to brighten David’s day by taking him all over the clinic to different nursing stations to “Trick or Treat.” He collected a lot of candy and could barely contain his excitement!
Easing nerves during a tough time
When Deb was diagnosed with cancer, she was overwhelmed with fear and nervousness. During a scary and
LaVon’s husband, Leroy, experienced a lot of pain during multiple stays at the hospital. Rafael, a registered nurse on the night shift, helped to ease Leroy’s pain by taking him for late night rides down the hallway, giving him showers to cool off and being there when he just needed someone to talk to. Rafael also made sure to keep a very nervous LaVon updated on her husband’s condition.
Being there every step of the way
There were several challenges when Alyssa and her husband prepared to start their family. From ordering an ultrasound early in the pregnancy to complications at childbirth to teaching about skin sensitivities for their newborn, Dr. Schmidt was there as a strong supporter to Alyssa and her family every step of the way. Tri-County Health Care offers primary care, surgery, cancer care, diagnostic imaging, orthopedics, rehabilitation and more. For more information, visit TCHC.org or call (218) 631-3510.

Your trusted partner for life
You were the most crucial step in my recovery. Because you listened, realized I was out of character and took action, I am cancer free and able to care for my daughters.
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
Kari, PATIENT
At Tri-County Health Care, we take patient care to the next level and our patients take note of the extra effort that means so much. Caring for our patients is at the core of what we do at Tri-County Health Care. Whether you’re seeking primary care, your annual physical, cancer care, surgery, rehabilitation after an injury or a number of other services at our clinics. Not only will we devote ourselves to improving your health but we will be your trusted partner for life.
Visit TCHC.org for more information or call 218-631-3510 to schedule an appointment.
The nursing care you gave Leroy really stood out and meant so much. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for the care, respect and compassion you gave my husband.
We are so thankful for the kindness you showed that day. You made a huge difference to someone who truly needed it!
LaVon, PATIENT’S WIFE
Karen, DAVID’S MOM Rafael Pichardo, RN and LaVon
You made me a priority and your honesty, empathy and understanding are truly treasured. Amber Block, LPN, David and Karen
You have shown a genuine love and compassion for my family and I don’t know that I could have been as strong through it all without your support.
