Story of T-bar Ski lifts
by Ahenisno
Skiing is a never tiring sport during winter and alpine skiing is the most popular among all. Modern day skiers and winter sport enthusiasts demand comfort and advanced gear / technology. Up until the early 1900s, skiers didn’t even have anything to carry them uphill. The world’s first ski lift was built in 1908, by Robert Winterhalder in Germany. However, the first ski lift with bars to cling on was operated in Switzerland on the Bolgen in Davos, shortly after a study from Davos Ski School which revealed that the students were able to spend only 6 minutes skiing for an hour skiing lesson. Most of the time was spent climbing uphill for skiing. Zurich engineer and a passionate skier Ernst Gustav Constom tried to resolve this issue by designing the drag rope system with winding cable that had J-shaped bars. The Bolgen lifts successfully transported 70,000 people by the end of first season and they replaced single person carrying J-bars with T-bars that can carry 2 people. Traditional T-bars were not very comfortable and safe like our modern T-bars and were used on small slopes. Then aerial lifts such as chairlifts, gondolas, trams, funicular, etc were introduced which can be used for steep/ irregular slopes. Even though there are many advanced ski-lift systems, T-bars are commonly used for exploring the alps. Also, they were the most economical solution for beginners who wanted to practice on small slopes. Experienced skiers who love racing and challenges prefer T-bars or platters over aerial lifts. Youngsters and racers get excited by challenges and exploring alpines is one of the best ways of challenging ourselves in winter.
We are a group of professionals who love skiing and snowboarding. Exploring the alps is our favorite sport during winter. The only discomfort we experienced was the pain in the ass while repeatedly using the T-bars which we preferred over aerial lifts. T-bars are faster and we can get down wherever even before reaching the hill top destination. We discussed this issue of traditional T-bars and came with a solution. We designed Boardie, which is ergonomic, antislippery, wider, longer with cushioning seats and comfortable. Since it is safer and convenient, even the kids and beginners comfortably ride using Boardie T-bars. Boardie also has advertising space beneath it. Our T-bars are being used by many Ski resorts in Europe especially in many Scandinavian Ski resorts. Now, We are proud to offer a better alpine experience to the skiers and snowboarders.
