Following a successful launch at Agritechnica and subsequent customer and dealer days, the New Holland stand at LAMMA will host its newest tractor, combine and forage harvester among an impressive 17-model lineup of the company’s machinery range.

The award winning T7.315 Heavy Duty Tractor is expected to be the main attraction on the stand. The two-model T7 Heavy Duty tractors pack more horsepower on a dynamic chassis, making them suitable for numerous applications, including primary and secondary cultivations, drilling and general haulage.

Maximum horsepower of 288 or 313 is available all the time on the T7.290 and T7.315 respectively, while maximum torque of 1282Nm is available over 500rpm with no turbo lag.

Other new machines set to be showcased on the stand include the new CX8.80 combine harvester and FR Forage Cruiser 650. Both were launched at Agritechnica and include updated cabs to offer premium comfort and a productive workspace for operators.

The new T8 tractor series with Tier 4B engines will make its presence known on the stand, as one of the largest and highest horsepower tractors in New Holland’s line up. The Tier 4B

engines use the company’s ECOBlue™ HI-eSCR technology, which offers improved engine performance and reduced fuel consumption without the need for additional diesel particulate filters and engine gas re-circulation.

Kuhn appoints new technical support staff to assist Scottish customers.

KUHN Farm Machinery has appointed Callum Lawrie in a Technical Support role to provide specialised aftersales help for its customers in Scotland.

Callum, who grew up on a Kinross-shire dairy farm, has 16 years of experience as a qualified agricultural machinery engineer and mechanic. He will be responsible for providing technical support and aftersales service advice for KUHN’s full range of grassland, arable, livestock and landscape maintenance machinery ranges.

Liaison with and support of KUHN’s arable and livestock farmers will form a key part of his role, with Callum covering Scotland, Orkney and the Isle of Man. Callum will be working in support of KUHN’s Scottish dealers and will work closely with KUHN’s well-known sales manager for Scotland, David Sharp

Front-mounted disc mower conditioner from KUHN at NAAC KUHN Farm Machinery’s new front-mounted disc mower conditioner – the FC 3125 F – will be on display at the NAAC show at the East of England showground, Peterborough on 10th December 2015. With a 3.10 m working width, this new machine, which features improved terrain following capabilities and variable conditioning speeds, is ideal for use as part of a high power, high output, triple-gang setup.

The new FC 3125 F uses a redesigned twin-linkage headstock attachment and shark fin inspired-design which houses an innovative suspension set-up. The new design and linkage system improves operator visibility and enables the mower to oscillate at angles of up to 30 degrees.

This improved ground contouring capability prevents sward contamination and preserves the quality of the remaining grass sward.

The mower’s suspension is controlled by KUHN’s LIFTCONTROL hydro-pneumatic ground pressure system which minimises crop damage and reduces wear and tear of the cutter bar by allowing the mowing unit to move vertically by up to 0.70 m. Two large pivoting connecting rods provide additional structural strength and stability.

The conditioning unit is fitted with KUHN’s DIGIDRY pivoting steel fingers which adapt easily to different types of forage.

Conditioning intensity is controlled by a single gear lever which selects one of two speeds: 1000 min-1 for most forage grasses or 755 min-1 for more delicate crops.

Kubota UK is hosting its biggest ever stand at LAMMA 2016 at what will be the first event that its complete range of solutions have been exhibited to the market.

The company will be bringing its expertise on the agricultural, groundcare, construction, engines, parts, service and finance divisions to the two-day event in January; with new and existing machinery also set to showcase on Stand R14.

Kubota’s M7001 Series tractor will be on stand, with three models from the range in 130, 150 and 170HP exhibiting a year on from its first unveiling at the show. Since its launch, a full-scale production facility has been opened in Northern France in order to cement Kubota’s move into the higher horsepower market.

A key focus for Kubota is on providing a firstrate aftersales service to customers and the team will be on hand to discuss the dedicated

Ploughing boots efficiency and extened optima range

The 2500-series fully-mounted plough range is perhaps one of the biggest innovations in farm machinery since development of the plough itself.

It is radically different to current models in a number of ways; there’s an all-new leg design - the Aero-Profile - offering lighter weight but greater strength; a new skimmer design for improved trash burial, but simpler adjustment; a swiveling depth wheel, with the option of a rubber tracked version too that sits under the plough beam, offering a longer footprint and better depth control.

There is an all-new headstock design too, which cleverly unlocks and folds, and is combined with a steering cross-shaft - this gives the fully-mounted plough the characteristics of a trailer when in transport.

So transport is simpler, with better maneouvrability and without a long rear over-hang, is much safer too. And there is no need to uncouple or relocate the top link.

The jewel in the crown though, is the introduction of the i-Plough version. This isobus controlled, flagship 2500-series plough benefits from an

electronic control system that allows almost complete set-up of the plough from the tractor seat.

In addition, its vari-width function can be managed by GPS, allowing the plough to steer itself to maintain a straight furrow.

The i-Plough has four operating modes; transport, work, park and mark. And switching between modes sees the plough automatically configure itself, without the need to reach for a tape measure.

First to appear will be the i-Plough later this year, in fiveand six-furrow builds, for tractors up to 280hp.

The new variant Optima V 6 +1 offers an extra in flexibility since the machine can be either operated with 6 or 7 rows. With the Optima V 6 +1 the farmer can, for example, seed soya beans with 7 rows at a row width of 60cm; when changing to maize seeding the farmer can telescope the frame and lift up the middle row hydraulically. Now the Optima V is ready to seed maize with 6 rows at 75 or 80cm – fitting perfectly to the needs of harversters’ headers.

The Optima V is the perfect combination of the reliable and well-known Optima seeding row technology and a solid and flexible frame design. The new headstock is made out of round tubes which have perfect characteristics in reference to strength and weight.

The 4 rows in the middle of the machine are mounted on moveable brackets which can be moved easily and maintenancefree on the solid 180mm square tube. The outer rows are mounted on the hydraulic telescoping frame parts.

The fertilizer hopper with a volume of more than 1.000l is fixed directly onto the headstock.

Therefore, the centre of gravity is as close to the tractor as possible reducing the lifting requirements drastically.

Väderstad continues to develop seed drills for European agriculture. The latest is Spirit R 300400S. An entirely new version, designed from the ground up by Spirit with even more positive characteristics than today’s machines. It can also be equipped with E-Control and the unique SeedEye solution. Spirit R 300-400S is available in 3 and 4 metre working widths.

The newly developed seed drill incorporates many innovations in several respects, all with ground-breaking technical solutions. It is equipped with E-Control and Gateway. Spirit R 300-400S is available with 12.5 or 16.7 cm row spacing.

Case IH will celebrate 20 years of its industryleading Quadtrac range at this year’s LAMMA show / The first Case IH Quadtrac was shown to US farmers in 1995 The most powerful series production tractors in the world, the Case IH Quadtrac has always been the most successful when it comes to delivering the highest pulling power for wide working widths while implementing efficient, groundconserving tillage and drilling concepts.

When the first Quadtrac was sold in the UK it quickly set the industry benchmark in terms of lugging power, traction, protecting the ground and fuel efficiency - appreciated by arable farmers around the world for its productivity, reliability and high level of driving comfort.

To date, 540 of the award-winning range have been sold in the UK – the first of which was used on a large arable farm in Lincoln.

The latest generation includes the top-of-therange Quadtrac 620, which has a power rating of 628 hp and a maximum power output of 692 hp.

Four independently driven tracks offer a constant contact area of more than 5.6 square metres – around 25% more than other tractors in this class.

It adds up to increased traction, reduced ground pressure and virtually zero slip, even in damp or difficult conditions.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary, the Case IH stand at LAMMA will feature an early Quadtrac 9370, along with other prodcuts in its portfoilo including a MagnumTM 380 CVX Rowtrac - voted ‘Tractor of the Year 2015’. Its Axial Flow 140 and 240 combines – both of which are available in tracked versions – will also be showcased.

There will also be a cake cutting by Helen Rainthorpe, whose father, John, was among the first farmers in the UK to use a Quadtrac. She also organised the Quadtrac Guiness World record in 2012, which took place at Hemswell Cliff, Lincolnshire, and involved 50 Quadtracs – setting a record for the most machines cultivating on one field for five minutes.

Lord Bamford Honoured For ‘huge impact’ on UK manufacturing

One of the country’s leading professional engineering bodies has bestowed its highest honour on Lord Bamford for his “huge impact” on UK manufacturing.

The JCB Chairman has been appointed as an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) at a ceremony in London after more than 50 years in the industry.

Lord Bamford was presented with the Honorary Fellowship along with Ratan N Tata, who was the Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata group, for almost 20 years,

by IMechE President Professor Richard Folkson.

Lord Bamford’s career began with a two year engineering apprenticeship at Massey Ferguson in France before he started at the JCB World Headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire, in 1964. He has been Chairman of JCB since 1975.

He was the

inspiration behind a project that resulted in the JCB Dieselmax car, powered by two JCB engines, setting the current world land speed record for a diesel-powered car at 350mph in August 2006. He also spearheaded the establishment of the £22 million engineering-focused JCB Academy in Rocester, which opened in September 2010.

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) is one of the fastest growing professional engineering institutions and has 112,000 members in more than 140 countries. The organisation works with leading companies, universities and think tanks, to create and share knowledge to provide government, businesses and the public with fresh thinking and authoritative guidance on all aspects of mechanical engineering. The Institution also promotes the achievements of its members and the industry in schools to encourage youngsters to enter the exciting engineering profession.

IMechE currently has 50 professionally registered JCB engineers accredited to the institution, who act as mentors to JCB colleagues working towards professional registration. A further 62 JCB engineers are currently active on its professional Development Schemes with 26 graduates and higher apprentices commencing registration with IMechE currently.

The importance of sprayer testing

All about FarmGem

Everyone will agree that accurate application of pesticides is not only desirable but essential whether for the environmental, the consumer or the grower point of view. Accurate and targeted use of pesticides is all part of modern agriculture. That’s why back in the mid 90’s the Chemical Application members of the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA) devised a test for application machinery to make sure it was working as intended and with a qualified operator would apply pesticides accurately and on target. In the early years of 2000 this test became the National Sprayer Testing Scheme as one of the main pillars of the Voluntary Initiative.

Now NSTS is an accepted part of arable agriculture and requirement of the major crop assurance schemes and supermarket protocols, requiring that farmers and growers have their sprayers inspected annually. Testing pesticide application equipment is about to become even more important as the Sustainable Use Directive requires that all pesticide application equipment is tested by 26th November 2016.

The NSTS is available through a network of test centres who have qualified examiners available to inspect and confirm the equipment is of the standard required. The test is usually carried out at the owner’s premises at a mutually agreed convenient time. The examiner will charge for the inspection, NSTS have no input into the cost of individual tests; the cost being commercial at the point of use. Additionally machine owners are free to choose their nearest or preferred test centre a list of test centres can be found on the NSTS website www.nsts.org.uk As confirmation of the result of the test the examiner will apply a pass sticker to the machine and give the owner a copy of the test report form. Other copies of the form are returned to NSTS Administration where the information is retained on a database of all tested machines.

The FarmGEM Company was formed in July 2009 and as they enter their seventh year the growth of the business and machine portfolio has been astounding. This is down to several key factors, fantastic UK dealer support, that the GEM Sprayers brand is still held in a very high regard by many growers and the fact that FarmGEM are producing equally strong and reliable machines and backing that up with a three year construction warranty.

The company is headed up by Terry Fixter, Managing Director and Cliff Buck, Sales and marketing Director with several other ex-GEM staff also very much involved, bringing easily over one hundred years of combined crop sprayer experience to the company. The main office and parts stores are based in Southwell, Nottinghamshire with tractor mounted and trailed machines being manufactured in both Greece and Hungary and self-propelled in Lincolnshire UK. The fact that the machines are manufactured in Europe brings several advantages, the main one being the access to easily deliver their machines into many markets other than the UK and Ireland. They have already appointed dealers and delivered machines into Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Uzbekistan and Bulgaria and even have machines working in the Philippines and The Democratic Republic of the Congo. That said the UK and Irish markets remain key and they have been able to establish a comprehensive dealer network throughout to supply and support their sprayers.

Although a completely new range of sprayers has been designed and developed they have a clear link to the original Gem Sprayer quality but are compliment with a new generation of booms and chassis’s and tanks for both trailed and mounted ranges, along with modern styling. So the range now comprises of mounted machines with tank capacities from 200 litres to 1900 litres and boom widths from 8m to 26m. The trailed sprayer range boasts three models, the Quatz ECO, Quartz, Diamond and GEM-Trak which can provide tank capacities from 2500 litres to 6000 litres and boom options from 18 to 30 metres.

Industry developments and pressure from the supply chain are turning the spotlight on more efficient cleaning units as a way to increase performance while reducing antibiotics use.

The packers and retailers are demanding less independance on the use of antibiotics to control disease so producers need to respond to this.

To control disease and maintain production, the industry has to explore and adopt alternative ways to reduce the pathogen risk to birds.

Better hygiene practices, based on more efficient cleaning of housing and equipment combined with strict biosecurity is an obvious starting point. It is entirely logical to get buildings as clean as possible before repopulating them to reduce the disease threat before the new birds arrive. New stock are under stress brought about by combination factors including transport, handling, vaccination and being exposed to new disease threats. The more hat can be done to reduce disease threats, the better.

There is a real scope to improve the effectiveness of cleaning of all types of poultry housing but the starting point is a change of mind set.

Too many producers regard cleaning as a “must do�, uninteresting and mundane chore, something that has to be done and the sooner it is done the better, however, nothing could be further from the truth. Cleaning should be seen as an integral part of a production system which can have a significant impact on performance, costs and profit.

An efficient well planned and implemented cleaning procedure can reduce the disease threat to birds leading to better performance. It can also save time and reduce costs.

An effective routine comprises of two different stages - cleaning and disinfection. Cleaning is essential to remove the environment in which pathogens thrive and to expose them to the subsiquent disinfectant. You can not disinfect dirt

unless soiling is removed, the pathogens will be protected from the disinfectant.

The cleaning phase is crucial but this is not a case of taking an ardent approach with a high pressure power washer. While you can blast away some soiling, you will not remove the fats and proteins which make up much of the dirt on the walls and other surfaces. In addition, the use of high pressure creates an aerosol effect which can actually spread the pathogens and make them worse.

To achieve an effective clean it is essential to apply a detergent and then to rinse away under low pressure followed by the application of disinfectant.

Effective cleaning will help prevent the economic loss associated with outbreaks and is considerably cheaper than the cost of treating an outbreak with medicines. Using chemical detergents ensures that soiling is removed before disinfection resulting in a reduction in bacterial levels prior to restocking, giving the new birds the best possible start.

Thorough cleaning based on a two stage routine could have a big impact on future profits and turn cleaning from a chore into a profit driver.
