Update on biosecurity measures to protect against Avian Flu

The government has today set out initial plans to update temporary measures in place to reduce the risk of avian flu in England, after the current Prevention Zone expires on 28 February 2017.

Based on the latest situation and current scientific advice from the Chief Veterinary Officer, from 28 February the government anticipates adopting a more targeted approach with mandatory biosecurity measures across the country and continued housing or range netting in higher risk areas. These measures would be reviewed at the end of April.

Currently, anyone who

keeps poultry or captive birds is required by law to house them, or otherwise keep them separate from wild birds, to reduce the risk of disease spreading. This requirement remains in place until 28 February and guidance on how to comply is available online.

The proposed temporary measures are designed so keepers can allow birds outside from 28 February, whilst still taking reasonable precautions against avian flu during the current outbreak. A final decision will be confirmed at the end of February.

Public Health England advises that the risk to public health from avian flu is very low and the Food Standards Agency has said there is no food safety risk for UK consumers.

our priority. Based on the current situation, we believe mandatory biosecurity across England, combined with targeted housing or range netting in higher risk areas, is the best option to control disease, protect birds’ welfare and ensure consumers can buy free range products.

We have acted swiftly to limit the spread of H5N8, including requiring all birds to be housed or kept separate from wild birds. The twelve week housing requirement has allowed keepers time to introduce stricter biosecurity measures and our intention now is to lift this from 28 February. Current rules on housing still remain in place until then, but we are setting out plans now to give people time to prepare. We will keep this decision under review.

H5N8 continues to circulate in wild birds and poultry keepers must remain vigilant.

This proposal does not mean a return to business as usual and we will continue to do everything we can to reduce the risk from this disease.

Born in Denmark, Peter joined the Ford Motor Company in Copenhagen in 1984, and after an apprenticeship worked for the company’s Agricultural Division.

Following its acquisition by the Fiat Group he transferred to Case IH, initially in an administrative position before joining the Marketing Department in Copenhagen. Peter was subsequently appointed Business Manager - Scandinavia and in 2000 became Marketing Manager - UK.

This new MLT (Manitou Loader Telescopic) range, named "NewAg", provides a response to the current and future requirements of farmers.

Originally Presented at a convention in Sardinia to an audience of more than 600 dealers from across Europe, the NewAg range was officially launched in the UK at the LAMMA show 2017.

Comprising of 9 models, this range is characterized by a wide choice of transmissions, an entirely new cab with "Easy step" access, optimal visibility, improved soundproofing and numerous innovations providing comfort, performance and efficiency. Associated with a complete range of services, the NewAg has a lower total cost of ownership, the lowest on the market.

Why a new range?

In order to best meet the current and future expectations of farmers, the Manitou group has been working for nearly 3 years on a complete range of machines and innovative services, including those related to connectivity and consumables. "As requirements for comfort, performance and productivity are increasingly

high on farms, we have to offer a choice of machines that are adapted to these constraints, and of course compliant with the Euro Stage IV engine standards. We have chosen to call this range NewAg because this name reflects the changes in the agricultural world and is understandable by everyone. The range fits perfectly within our REDUCE TCO* (Total Cost of Ownership) program, thanks to the numerous services offered, which can reduce the total cost of ownership still further", says Arnaud Boyer, Vice-President Marketing & Product Development for the Manitou group.

The manual torque converter transmission Powershuttle gearbox has 4 gears for handling agricultural loads on the road or on the farm. This transmission is highly reliable and is an economical solution for the user. The MLT 630-105 and MLT 733105 models are offered with this type of transmission. The maximum speed is 40 km/h for the MLT 630-105 and 32 km/h for the MLT 733-105.

In the first case, the gears are changed using the +/- buttons on the JSM® (Joystick Switch & Move). 6 forward gears are proposed for 3 types of speed in forward-reverse. The operator can move into automatic gearbox mode by using the DSB (Double Switch Buttons) reserved for this purpose on the dashboard, which enables him/her to concentrate during material-handling and transport operations. The Powershift Plus transmission is available on the MLT 635-130 PS+ and MLT 737-130 PS+ models and has a maximum speed of 40 km/h.

Isuzu UK recently announced their Dealers of the Year at their annual awards ceremony.

This year the awards took place at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, and recognises the best and brightest dealers across the UK who provide a top service to all of Isuzu’s customers.

In addition to the awards, a number of dealer staff were accredited as PickUp Professionals at the ceremony after completing

their training programme.

The Pick-Up Professionals accreditation allows staff to become specialists in Pick-Ups and well versed in specifying bespoke trucks to meet customers’ needs, however unique.

The awards were presented by Isuzu UK Managing Director, Paul Tunnicliffe and Operations Director, William Brown.
