Following our recent investment in plant and machinery to raise production output of its agricised timers, M&M Timber is now set to explore new market opportunities with the launch of agricised “peeled and pointed” fencing posts the promise big things for the midlands company.

The decision by M&M Timber to introduce an Agricised option of its long-running peeled and pointed fencing range is indicative of the company’s confidence in the future success of its trademark Agricised process and the development of extended life perimeter fencing in general.

Just eighteen months since the announcement of its machined round Agricised fencing posts M&M Timber has reported sales that have far exceeded its expectations and forced further investment at the Midlands manufacturing plant to keep up with demand.

Welcomed by farmers and landowners throughout the UK, the peeled and pointed fencing option is another industry ‘first’ and predicted to swell production still further. Judging by the initial interest from this market sector, it may even rank amongst the company’s top selling product range before long. “From our regular discussions with our distributors and the farming community, it became apparent that there exists a real opportunity to further sales of our popular Agricised range by extending it to meet long-held preferences for the more rustic peeled and pointed posts,” says M&M Timber’s Managing Director Nigel Poyner. “This is clearly an established market sector that can immediately recognise and benefit from the long term costsavings of extended life fencing.”

Machining the uniform Agricised incisions in the uneven surface of peeled timbers, necessary for the deep Tanalith E preservative penetration process, was made possible with newly acquired, technically advanced machinery and the skills of the company’s technical experts.

M&M Timber offers a 15 year written warranty package on both its machined round and peeled and pointed Agricised fencing timbers with customer online registration, another ‘first’ for this innovative company as it strives to always keep one step ahead of the market. The company has also looked at introducing more flexibility to its nationwide delivery service by reducing the minimum carriage paid order requirement to just five packs. Gears in motion for Midlands Machinery Show

THE MIDLANDS MACHINERY show is returning to Newark Showground this year with a series of new product launches and technical seminars for the second year running.

Organised by the Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society, the show is a platform for small to medium-sized agricultural businesses to show their diverse range of machinery and innovation to those who work and have an interest in agriculture.

Taking place on 25 and 26 November 2015, the Midlands Machinery Show is well known as a rapidly growing event for visitors and traders to brush shoulders with some of the key innovators in industry.

Entries are now open to dealers and manufacturers to book their trade spaces both indoors and outdoors.

Organisers are encouraging exhibitors to book now and secure their place.

Jayne Olney, showground manager, said: “This year is the second year we have run this event and we are looking forward to welcoming even more attendees than last year.

“In its first year, we had a tremendous amount of positive feedback from exhibitors and we pride ourselves on our ability to attract the big name brands in the agricultural industry while also maintaining a sense

of intimacy.

“Both buyers and manufacturers benefit from the layout of the show as it allows them to have the space and time to talk directly to their visitors who in turn focus on doing business with the dealers.”

The Newark Showground is well placed geographically attracting traders across the Midlands and further afield. Already signed up to exhibit at the event is B A Bush & Son Ltd, Dal-Bo UK, FarmGem and DDM Agriculture.

More than 5,000 people are expected to visit the show this year with 150 to 160 stands over the two days. Visitors will be able to choose from a programme of technical seminars which will see industry experts discuss relevant issues.

Awards for the best trade stands will also be taking place including Best Agricultural Stand, Best Overall Stand and Best Non Machinery Stand.

Jayne added: “After launching the show last year, it was clear that there is a need for an event of this size in the area and the signs are indicating that this is an event that will grow in popularity year on year.

“Around 80 per cent of those that came to the show last year have re-booked due to the success of the Midlands Machinery Show.”

Industry developments and pressure from the supply chain are turning the spotlight on more efficient cleaning units as a way to increase performance while reducing antibiotics use.

The packers and retailers are demanding less independance on the use of antibiotics to control disease so producers need to respond to this.

To control disease and maintain production, the industry has to explore and adopt alternative ways to reduce the pathogen risk to birds.

Better hygiene practices, based on more efficient cleaning of housing and equipment combined with strict biosecurity is an obvious starting point. It is entirely logical to get buildings as clean as possible before repopulating them to reduce the disease threat before the new birds arrive. New stock are under stress brought about by combination factors including transport, handling, vaccination and being exposed to new disease threats. The more hat can be done to reduce disease threats, the better.

There is a real scope to improve the effectiveness of cleaning of all types of poultry housing but the starting point is a change of mind set.

Too many producers regard cleaning as a “must do�, uninteresting and mundane chore, something that has to be done and the sooner it is done the better, however, nothing could be further from the truth. Cleaning should be seen as an integral part of a production system which can have a significant impact on performance, costs and profit.

An efficient well planned and implemented cleaning procedure can reduce the disease threat to birds leading to better performance. It can also save time and reduce costs.

An effective routine comprises of two different stages - cleaning and disinfection. Cleaning is essential to remove the environment in which pathogens thrive and to expose them to the subsiquent disinfectant. You can not disinfect dirt

unless soiling is removed, the pathogens will be protected from the disinfectant.

The cleaning phase is crucial but this is not a case of taking an ardent approach with a high pressure power washer. While you can blast away some soiling, you will not remove the fats and proteins which make up much of the dirt on the walls and other surfaces. In addition, the use of high pressure creates an aerosol effect which can actually spread the pathogens and make them worse.

To achieve an effective clean it is essential to apply a detergent and then to rinse away under low pressure followed by the application of disinfectant.

Effective cleaning will help prevent the economic loss associated with outbreaks and is considerably cheaper than the cost of treating an outbreak with medicines. Using chemical detergents ensures that soiling is removed before disinfection resulting in a reduction in bacterial levels prior to restocking, giving the new birds the best possible start.

Thorough cleaning based on a two stage routine could have a big impact on future profits and turn cleaning from a chore into a profit driver.

Direct sales approach makes Bauer slurry tankers more attractive for large-scale slurry and digestate spreading Bauer is re-launching its high-specification tankers in Britain by supplying contractors and large farm operators direct at more favourable prices but with service and parts support still available nationwide through Bauer dealers.

“The market for large tankers with specialist application equipment is very competitive with a number of players involved,” says Adrian Tindall, Bauer UK & Ireland sales manager. “Dealing direct with the professional operators most likely to use our machines will enable us to ensure we provide the right features and specification for their needs, at prices competitive with other high-quality products.”

Bauer tankers available in sizes from 10.5cu m to 24cu m – 10,500-litres to 24,000-litres – are unique in the UK and Ireland for having a hand-made polyester tank mounted on a galvanised steel chassis. The heart-shaped tank cross section results in a low centre of gravity for good stability in hilly fields and on the road, while indents provide ample space for wide and large diameter flotation tyres to minimise soil compaction.

Using polyester rather than steel saves a significant amount of weight over a quality-spec steel tanker – as much as 3 tonnes with the 24cu m model. It also provides a container impervious to corrosion.

“That is particularly relevant to farms and contractors involved in handling biogas plant digestate, which can be more corrosive than regular livestock slurry,” notes Adrian Tindall. “Together with

the corrosion-resistant galvanised chassis, it means these tankers clean up really well and can look like new even after a lot of use, which results in strong re-sale values.”

The tankers are available with Bauer spiral or centrifugal high capacity pumps giving fast filling and spreading rates. A front-mounted filling arm is available for quick turnarounds at the slurry store and a cleaner working experience for the operator.

Application options include a double nozzle spray boom for surface spreading up to 27m wide, and a dribble hose applicator in widths from 9m to 30m with a macerating distributor, hydraulic drip stop and hydraulic folding.

A drag shoe applicator with working widths of 5.3m to 21m provides in-crop application of slurry or digestate directly on to the ground; a disc injector in 5.2m to 8m widths places liquid beneath the surface for minimum losses through evaporation and quick resumption of pasture grazing; and a spring tine cultivator injector is available for incorporating slurry or digestate into seedbeds.

Chassis options include a cranked single axle for smaller tankers in the range to give an extra-low centre of gravity; rear-steer tandem axles with leaf spring or air suspension – the latter is standard on the triple axle 24cu m model – and four-point rear linkage for a mounted applicator.

“With all those options, each tanker is specced and priced individually,” notes Adrian Tindall. “But an 18.5cu m tandem axle machine with 15m dribble bar will be about £70,000; and an auto loading system will add around £6000.”

Better longevity from the C-Mix HD shares for Cenius cultivators As an addition to the C-Mix share system for Cenius cultivators, Amazone now offers the C-Mix HD coulter for use in especially arduous conditions. Thanks to the hard metal inserts in the main wear areas, the C-Mix HD share (HD meaning Heavy Duty) is characterised by a significantly higher wear resistance, resulting in the decisive benefit that the share length, and thus the working depth, are maintained. This avoids the need to constantly readjust the working depth during operation. Depending on application and soil conditions, the lifespan is approx. four times longer than that of the standard system.

This results in extended intervals between share changes and reduces the system costs accordingly.

The C-Mix HD share is a one-piece share with an integrated, scrolled guide plate and is ideally suited for use in intensive incorporation at working depths of 12 to 30 cm. When used in combination with the 350 mm C-Mix wing shares, it is also possible to use them for shallower stubble cultivation.

Thanks to the different share options, the C-Mix share system ensures a very flexible utilisation of Amazone's Cenius cultivators. So, the operational spectrum of these machines ranges from shallow stubble tillage via top soil deep loosening and onto seedbed preparation. The new Case IH AFS Academy mobile app is an easy-touse, 'on-the-go' application containing information, mostly in the form of short online videos, explaining the basics, applications and all relevant topics relating to Precision Farming with Case IH AFS systems "Our experience has taught us that short video tutorials are a great medium for communicating know-how", explained Maximilian Birle, the head of AFS Customer Training EMEA. Once again, thousands of visitors from far and wide have enjoyed the annual Royal Welsh Show.

With perfect show weather, the large number of exhibitors and visitors alike were able to take in the atmosphere and enjoy this incredible event at their leisure.

Speaking on the last day of the show, Mr David Lewis, Chair of the RWAS Council remarked “I have been involved with this wonderful event for over 40 years and I am still amazed every year at the standard and quality of the livestock on display.

This year in particular the Limousin’s stole the show by winning nearly all the championships in the beef classes, included the coveted Team of Five title with a stupendous group of animals.

“It was heart-warming to know that every animal winning a Fitzhugh Championship title was exhibitor bred. This just shows that it’s not all about the money and proves that the standard of breeding and farming in general is extremely high.

“We would like to express my thanks to the many stewards and officials who have once again delivered a seamless show, which was ran smoothly from beginning to end.” added Mr Lewis Visitors to the show flocked from across the globe, with over 1000 of our international showgoers registering at the International Pavilion from over 34 countries from as far afield as Australia, Canada, South America, Russia, Kenya, Kazakhstan and Nepal, to name just a few.

The Royal Welsh Show continues to attract large numbers of business and political leaders, all eager to use the show as a place to meet and do business and this year’s has been no exception, firmly cementing the Royal Welsh show as one of the most important agricultural events in Europe.

Kuhn announce new grass rake Kuhn launch its largest four-rotor trailed grass rake to date

The GA 15131 Gyrorake adds to KUHN’s existing range of grass rakes which includes the 12.5 metre trailed GA 13131 and the semi-mounted GA 8731 (8.60m working width) and GA 9531 (9.30m working width) machines.

The GA 15131 uses four 3.65m diameter rotors, the forward pair equipped with 13 tine arms and the rear pair with 15 tine arms. Each tine arm is fitted with four tines, giving a working width of 9.50m to 14.70m.

The new rake is designed to deliver a high work output, yet folds to a compact transport dimension of just 3.0 metres wide by 4.0 metres high and 10.90 metres in length. Raking height can be adjusted hydraulically as standard, with all four rotors powered

by KUHN’s headstock-mounted hydraulic drive unit which gives the option to increase front rotor speed by up to 20% when working in lighter crops.

The four rotors work together to create one perfectly formed central windrow (from 1.40 to 2.50 metres in width) and are controlled via a cab-mounted VT50 series terminal which is ISOBUS compatible and which allows operating sequences to be pre-programmed for easy u-turns. Each rotor can be lifted individually for a perfect finish and to give the machine high

ground clearance for ease of manoeuvring and unhindered travel across uneven terrain.

Each rotor is mounted on four pivoting, large diameter wheels for excellent ground contouring with KUHN’s STABILIFT system allowing the individual rotors to be lowered parallel to the ground, even on rough terrain, so that the tines don’t come into contact with the soil – thereby preventing the crop from being contaminated with soil.

The rotor wheels sit close to the tines to further improve ground following, while a bogie axle and KUHN’s 3D rotor suspension system provide even greater stability and closer ground contouring when working at high speeds.

The GA 15131 is characteristically robust and utilises KUHN’s Masterdrive GIII gearbox to reduce power transfer stresses and provide reliable service with low maintenance: the Masterdrive’s patented two-stage design uses bevel and spur gear reduction and is totally enclosed for minimal maintenance – service intervals are every 200 hours.

The new rake requires a minimum tractor PTO power output of 115hp.

Subaru UK has announced a raft of modifications and upgrades to the interior and chassis of its XV compact crossover. The interior changes result in further significant improvements to cabin refinement and ambience, and include an all new factory-fit infotainment system first seen on the new Outback earlier this year.

Boasting the lowest centre of gravity in the compact crossover class – and the highest ground clearance – changes to the car’s suspension have been designed to result in a smoother, more compliant ride but without sacrificing any of the stability that the XV is renowned for.

The upgraded Subaru XV goes on sale through the Subaru UK dealer network this month.

Higher-quality materials and new infotainment system for upgraded interior Among the most important changes to the upgraded XV is a revised interior, which now features improved materials and an all-new touchscreen infotainment and navigation system.

The interior design now has a higher-quality look and feel thanks to the adoption of an all new

instrument binnacle and new metallic and piano black accents throughout the cabin for the central console, dashboard and steering wheel switchgear and arm rests; Lineartronic models get a new shift lever and new housing with metal and piano black accents.

The driver’s LCD instrument binnacle has been completely redesigned and features more upmarket, contemporary blue dials with new graphics.

The overall result of these changes is a more contemporary and cosseting ambience.

An enhanced infotainment, navigation and audio system is now fitted as standard to all XV models in the UK. The all-new 7.0-inch touchscreen display allows smartphone-style control over the advanced navigation and infotainment features, with a swipe and pinch control function for map displays. The infotainment display echoes the new blue glow of the driver’s instrument binnacle.

The infotainment system and other vehicle functions can also be controlled through Subaru’s latest-generation voice control facility.
