FEEDYARD
INFORMATION:
15,000 head permitted capacity from the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy. Facility includes a total of approximately 11,880 feet of concrete fenceline bunk with 11,015 linear feet utilized for feeding cattle in 68 pens of various sizes. Facility also includes an additional four pens with approximately 754 linear feet of in-pen bunk.
Additional features include:
• Cattle shipping/receiving/working facility that includes a 3,248 square foot Morton pole frame building with concrete loading dock, metal circle tub sorting, Silencer hydraulic squeeze chute, Daniels Manufacturing cattle scale, and hot room. Attached are sorting gates that distribute cattle to sorting pens which are of metal construction and set on concrete.
• Three hospitals are located throughout the facility.
• Feed storage is provided by concrete bunker silos having approximately 70,200 square feet with 12-foot sidewalls along with some additional concrete for mixing.
• 1,440-square-foot office constructed in 2000 with an adjacent 70-foot by 10-foot platform truck scale with a digital readout. Includes a reception area, four offices, restroom facilities, and an employee break room.
• 4,800 square feet modern shop is insulated and equipped with heat. It was built in 2021.
• 1,050-square-foot Morton pole frame horse barn with adjacent pens.
WASTE CONTROL: Livestock waste control system included drainage to six settling ponds and/or lagoons. Dewatering is accomplished via pump and delivery to two pivot irrigation systems located north and south of the feedyard facility. Custer County Feeders, Inc. has been issued an operating permit from the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy to feed 15,000 head of feeder cattle. Facility ID # 7203.

Pens include Johnson continuous flow waterers and have 9- to 10-foot concrete aprons behind bunk. Bunk retainer is mostly adjustable cable under pipe header. Pens have excellent slope for drainage to water retention ponds. Pen construction includes continuous metal, pipe fence, and high-tensile electrified wire on mostly wood posts. Truck alleys are graveled and double as cattle movement alleys. Night lights are distributed throughout the pens and pen layout and alleys provide cattle access from all pens to and from the cattle shipping/receiving/working facility.
