Margaret Culver is an artist who creates acrylic paintings in the spirit of the modern equestrian. Her style features impressionistic interpretations of movement, coupled with unexpected color and design. Culver herself has been an avid horsewoman and competitive rider for several decades.

Her experiences with horses have inspired her artistic process. She feels her connection to them have given her a unique insight into their emotion and spirit. Her work capture’s the nature of each horse she paints, as she artfully depicts their majesty and strength in each sweeping brushstroke.

Culver has studied at the Vero Beach Art Museum and the Foosaner Art Museum in Florida, and the Orion Studio in Michigan. Her paintings have been exhibited in juried shows in both Florida and Michigan as well.

She has been a featured artist in various galleries where several of her paintings have won awards. She is currently a permanent artist on exhibit at the Living Room Art Gallery and Wine Lounge in Melbourne, Florida and at the Classic Horse Gallery in Metamora, Michigan. She is currently working with the sports apparel company ‘Fanatics’ to create a line of apparel and merchandise for the 2020 Kentucky Derby.

I have been an active horsewoman for most of my life. My experiences with horses have inspired me, and given me a special insight into their world of emotion and spirit.

With my art, I strive to share my peek into the heart of these magnificent beings. My art depicts their strength and passion, along with their kindness and devotion, all characteristics of the horse, which I know to be true. I have had my horse save me from certain disasters. When I have made mistakes jumping fences, he has stepped up and corrected my error, avoiding a crash. I have had my horse carry me through forests so thick that I have had to bury my face in his neck to avoid getting knocked off of his back. Not being able to see where I was going, I have trusted him to safely gallop through until it was safe for me to look up again. I also treasure the quiet times with my horse when he sees me and eagerly canters to the gate to greet me and say hello. I enjoy hearing him gently nicker when I walk to his stall to scratch his head and have him nuzzle my cheek.

These elements inspire my art. My hope is that my paintings captivate and allow the viewer to share insights into my world of the horse.
