The mixed-media works of Florencia Zampieri transcend the dichotomy between abstraction and figuration. Often using acrylics as well as collage, Zampieri’s works feels strategically unfinished, raw—in this respect, they have the same elegance as a building under construction.

In the artist’s own words: “My artwork is very much influenced by my background in ballet and contemporary dance, as well as my studies in architecture, color theory and image.” Indeed, it would seem like the furtive sense of animation that extends across her oeuvre is rooted in how the body relates to a flat picture plane. Rather than giving viewers something to merely look at, she pictorially renders a situation they can imaginatively enter into, abstracting meaning from abstraction.

Working on paper as well as canvas, there’s almost a draftsman-like quality in the way Zampieri shapes her compositions so as to allow the cracks and seams to show. Put another way, she could be said to deconstruct structure. Highlighting the “built” or constructed quality of a composition, she creates pictures that are pleasing to the eye as well as conceptually grounded.

Since I was a little girl in Argentina, I have loved all forms of art, from painting and drawing to dancing and singing.

My artwork is very much influenced by my background in ballet and contemporary dance, as well as my studies in architecture, color theory and image. As all allow me to further my means of expression along with my travel experiences, for which I am deeply passionate. My three children are my true inspiration being my connection with love, life and soul.
