Born and raised in Karachi, Fahim Somani is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of calligraphy, geometry, and architecture. His practice centers on the transformation of letterforms into structured visual systems, where script moves beyond language and becomes form.
Rooted in the discipline of Arabic calligraphy and informed by the clarity of Kufic script, Somani deconstructs letters into geometric frameworks that reflect principles of balance, proportion, and spatial order. Drawing from Islamic geometry and contemporary design, his work repositions tradition as a living language shaped through process and material.
This approach takes shape through Callimetry, a method that brings together precision and intuition. Letters are translated into grids, tessellations, and layered compositions that shift between surface and structure. Across painting, mixed media, and sculptural work, he examines how form can occupy space and carry meaning.
His series Geometry of Belonging explores the emotional states of love, peace, and protection through structured abstraction, translating these ideas into clear, spatial compositions.
Now based in Houston, Texas, Somani continues to expand a practice that connects language, structure, and lived experience.

Art is a way to express one’s feelings and emotions. Art is defined as “the creation of beautiful or significant things, a particular type of creative production generated by human beings.” An artist makes a piece of art to create an experience for others and to show devotion to someone or something of importance. I have created many art pieces in different mediums and geometrical patterns and each piece echoes my feelings and emotions. I took inspiration from my family at an early age which encouraged my imagination to flow with no boundaries allowing me to flourish in art. I have focused intensely on visual arts, painting in most mediums and writing in calligraphy with pen and ink. As an accomplished visual artist with many years of creative experience, I believe in exploring the diverse forms of art by connecting people from all walks of life through art and my artwork is a passionate reflection of my beliefs, faith and cultural heritage. My work is based on the idea of blending east and west with a touch of contemporary and throughout the artwork calligraphy in different variations is heavily used since it enhances the beauty of the pieces. Currently, I am in the process of expanding my art portfolio while working on various projects simultaneously.
