History of Agincare
Agincare is one of the largest family-owned, independent care providers in England, employing over 3,500 team members across 73 locations nationwide.
Our founder, Derek Luckhurst, opened his first care home, Agincourt, in Weymouth, in 1986. Since then, we have grown to provide reliable and professional care across a range of services, including care homes, home care, live-in care, supported living and training.
We have strategic partnerships with the NHS and local government across England.
Yet, we remain a family-owned company with a commitment to a long-term, sustainable future delivering high quality care.
Our teams contribute to national, regional and local policy, publications, panels and forums including at government level. This underlines Agincare’s place as a market leader and strong lobbyist for social care reform, funding and long-term workforce strategy.
Committed to our workforce
As our range of services and scale of provision grows, we recognise that our teams also need to develop.
Our future is focused on recruiting and training incredible people that share our passion for care, utilising our specialist training provider, Training Now. This ensures that everyone joining Agincare receives thorough, professional learning in preparation for a career in care.
Although we have always recruited internationally, in 2021 we launched Agincare International. Our specialist global recruitment team facilitates sponsorship for individuals from overseas looking to start a career and life in the UK or elsewhere.

Anu’s Story
Anu, from India, now works as a Registered Nurse with Agincare thanks to the training she received from Training Now.
Since childhood, Anu had always dreamt of becoming a nurse and, with sponsorship and the associated support to train and work in the UK, that dream became a reality.
“Everything was super-fast for me and they made it easy.”
Once in the UK, Anu was welcomed to Agincare’s Gorseway Care and Retirement Village.
With further training and support, Anu went on to pass her Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and is now a Registered Nurse with Agincare.
This success is underpinned by the comprehensive training provided by Training Now.
As a specialist provider of Health and Social Care training, Training Now provides learning to candidates that prepares them for a career and life in the UK or elsewhere.
The feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive and we are proud to have sponsored skilled workers who now play a key role in Agincare’s future.
“They gave me a good care worker to shadow and they explained everything so that I got to know the residents and all their routines. Every couple of days I received new training.”
As a newly qualified practitioner, Anu is supported in her role via a Training Now facilitated Preceptorship programme. This is enabling Anu to develop confidence as a professional and refine her skills as a nurse in the UK.
Proud to be part of the Agincare family, Anu is encouraging others to follow their dreams through The Care Partnership Programme:
“I really recommend all other nurses and all those who are planning to come to the UK come and join Agincare. It will always be a super supportive platform for you.”
