Inspired by the origins of the virgin and savage nature of Aruba; a tropical desert with rich Arawak indigenous culture ignites a sense of curiosity for discovery. The Renaissance Aruba Resort is located in the urban and active city center, being now the Oasis within Oranjestad’s hectic crowds. It is an extension of the beautiful arid untouched lands of Aruba. As travelers go deeper in this inspirational journey a sense of calm and warmth overtakes them, coming to realize they have found their Personal Oasis.
Refreshing, rustic and bohemian defines this shelter. A subtle palette of tone-on-tone hues combined with raw textures blend the transition between the indoors and the outdoors. The use of rustic and handcrafted materials create the desert-like feel alluding back to indigenous precedents to the untouched geography and history of Aruba. The design intent is to allow the guests to create their own unique oasis and fulfill their thirst for discovery.

As I’m waking up to my senses I feel a glorious peace and tranquility. Slowly noticing a soft, dry, almost mystical breeze on my face.
I feel alive. I feel free. I feel relaxed. I’ve escaped the crowds to a landscape of powdery soft sand and crystalline blue waters warm to the touch. Windswept palms climb skyward reaching for the sun. Tropical shades of green combined with taupe to compose a refreshing desert-like feel. Cactus and Aloe offer their subtle scents across a wild and alluring landscape that is calling to me... I just breathe and let the sound of the waves break against the silence of my room, returning to a new and deeper truth, the curiosity of my imagination.

A lush oasis for the senses, La Tropical Brewery is a craft beer and dining experience where the soul of a Cuban past meets the pulse of modern Miami.
ADRIANA GHERSI
La Tropical’s rich history as a lively music and culture destination and Havana’s largest brewery inspired its owners to bring the re-crafted brand into modern-day Miami. The renewal of a Wynwood arts district warehouse makes the perfect location for its new brewery. Sitting at the intersection of Miami’s arts and culture scene, the introduction of La Tropical creates a unique opportunity to engage a dynamic audience in a one-of-a-kind brewery experience.
Colossal wooden doors are a grandiose entry to the tap room, with brand elements on the handles that translate La Tropical’s brand heritage directly into the hands of guests. A giant perforated metal starfish hangs at the entry to welcome visitors and when illuminated, casts light in a dream-scape pattern as an ode to the original location’s “”El Ensueño” room. The starfish’s regenerative nature parallels the renewal of La Tropical’s brand. Complete sightlines through the tap room give visibility to a backdrop of brewing tanks for an experience rooted in making beer. Cuban tile incorporates vibrant brand colors into the flooring, and a chevron wooden bar and long, live edge wood tables celebrate the communal aspects of drinking beer. Expansive industrial windows provide open views of the gardens outside and the cooking inside of the central kitchen. Eclectic groupings of furniture in a recrafted tropical style invites guests to get comfortable while a grab-and-go area supplies apparel and brewery-centric accoutrement for the road.
The design connects La Topical’s heritage elements and Cuban flavor to the industrialism of its new neighborhood. An eclectic tropical character is juxtaposed with an industrial quality through exposed ceilings and a range of materials from concrete to leather. Colorful murals and graphic artwork create layers of visual vibrancy and pay homage to the arts neighborhood, and the greenery outside is brought in with hanging plants. A thin series of metal tubes form a railing to elevate the staircase leading upstairs to the mezzanine, which provides a space for hosting private parties and features sweeping views of the interior. Back outside, the entire experience culminates in a garden stage for entertaining and hosting performances, concerts and events.
Brewing, landscaping, dining and social spaces are woven together at La Tropical Brewery to create a lush tropical oasis that engages all of the senses and celebrates craft brewing within the context of Wynwood’s dynamic arts community.

STARWOOD CAPITAL HQ - MIAMI BEACH

Intermediate Architect/Designer
Client: Starwood Capital Group Practice Area: Financial - Investment/Trading; Office Tower
Location: Miami Beach, Florida
Size: 344,000 SF
Starwood Capital’s HQ on Miami Beach makes history as the city’s first ever Class A office building and its first new corporate office building in over 20 years. Paying homage to Miami Beach’s rich architectural history, the new hub bridges past and present by incorporating elements of the city’s signature Art Deco style with a modern glass window façade. It marries the company’s hospitality roots with its home base’s heritage using a palette of natural elements and expressed stucco floor plates, seamlessly interlacing the landscape into its Gensler-led design. The result is an innovative and uniquely Miami headquarters at 2340 Collins Avenue that is launching its neighborhood’s evolution from a resort town to a successful mixed use community.
MIAMI BEACH, FL
The building is set on a 1.2-acre lot across seven uniquely shaped floors, stacked atop parking and retail and bifurcated by a communal breezeway at the fourth level.
Two three-story towers flank the breezeway, allowing Starwood Capital Group to reside in one half of the building while the other half offers boutique office space for lease to growing companies, from tech startups to financial equity firms. The HQ is seeking LEED Gold certification. Lush landscaping and water features are built into every paseo and key tenant intersection, effectively extending the workplace outside, reducing stress and enabling tenants to work and collaborate freely.
Participated in the project during construction documentation for core and shell and interiors.

ROYAL CARIBBEAN Innovation Lab & Collaboration Center

Junior Architect
Client: Royal Caribbean
Location: Miami, Florida
Size: 50,000 SF
LEED Silver Certified
The Royal Caribbean Cruises Innovation Lab & Collaboration Center increases the pace of innovation for the company’s New Build department, which designs technologically advanced ships. LEO A DALY’s design incorporates virtual reality and collaborative workplace design into the 20,000SF facility, which is attached to the company’s Port Miami headquarters – where LEO A DALY also renovated 30,000 SF of office space.
The design of the lab celebrates innovation with a curved building corner to call attention to the three-story virtual reality “cave,” which allows designers to inhabit a full-size representation of the spaces they are designing. Wearing virtual reality headsets, team members are immersed into those spaces through projectors that are positioned above, below and around an all-glass platform.
Because this facility is about pushing the speed of innovation, it came together quickly using design-build and lean methods. Early collaboration between the design and construction teams allowed schematic design through full occupancy to occur in just 10 months.

Coral Trellis. Preservation of an ecosystem; an underwater world of strangeness and livelihood of the coral reef ecosystem.
This Project consists of taking care of the coral bleaching phenomenon through the revitalization and re-programing of oil rigs. It consists on the extension of the preexisting, underwater, oil rig foundations that have never been used for any other purpose. These pre-existing structures are a potential site/machine for an underwater world of strangeness and livelihood of the coral reef ecosystem. The way these artificial reefs work is that the coral larvae (the bacteria that produces the coral reef) settle on substrates that are made of rock-solid material.
