Love Ya Lobes was rebranded from Polymer Parties in 2022 after changing direction from focusing on hosting kids’ birthday parties, where children could design and make their very own custom-made jewellery to take home at the end of their hosts party. With Covid-19 restrictions in place at the time, Lauren decided it was time to change avenues and focused on creating hand-made polymer clay earrings. Her main focus is producing vibrant, stylish, fun and quirky pieces that suit all ages. Sue Liu is an author, artist, and conservation advocate. She draws realistic, intricate illustrations of Australian native wildlife from land, sea, and sky using Artline pens and markers. She is a self-taught illustrator, observational artist, and scuba diver who studies marine animals in their natural environment. She shares her art and stories from her adventures under the sea, raising awareness of lesserknown native and marine animals, with the aim to engage and educate the broader community. The artist behind the prints is Nabeela Suleman. Painting & illustrating was creative outlet that she enjoyed outside her corporate career as a Chartered Accountant. Any exciting new product or collection launches for the Sydney Gift Fair? As previously mentioned, we’re launching so many new brands this year! One in particular we’re really excited about is LOQI. LOQI collaborates with artists from around the world to create original and colourful bags. Their designs are smart, dependable, high quality, eco-friendly, affordable and look great. At IsAlbi, ecofriendly products are really important to us as we want to do our bit for the environment. That’s why we’re thrilled to be stocking LOQI!

What was your biggest challenge as a wholesaler and how did you overcome it? Unfortunately, we’ve had some challenges with Rogue over the past year due to unforeseen changes in the team. Unbeknownst to us, our Head of Rogue

left the company and went in a different direction, taking valued contacts. Luckily, we found Vanessa Wong who has given the brand a much needed refresh. With a wealth of knowledge, Vanessa is leading Rogue into an exciting new direction where innovation and creativity are paramount.

Another challenge we face as a company are the global rising costs. The cost of energy prices in Europe have skyrocketed which in turn, affects our prices. It’s our ongoing goal to maintain an acceptable retail price while still reaching profit margins.

How have the AGHA Gift Fairs helped your business? We’ve been a valued member of the AGHA Gift Fairs for over 30 years now and haven’t looked back! It’s great to be part of an association that gives unmatched exposure to a huge number of customers. We recently reverted back to exhibiting with AGHA at the Melbourne Trade Fair and loved it! We’re looking forward to continuing our close relationship with AGHA over the coming years.

Conversations with Corinne, MWIB Co-founder

When and how did Made by Many Hands start as a business? MbMH is not, in itself, a ‘business’, but the online marketplace of Migrant Women in Business (www.mwib.com.au), a social enterprise providing real business support for migrant and refugee women entrepreneurs and leaders. It was established in 2020 by co-founders Luz Restreppo, herself a Colombian political refugee, and Corinne Kemp, a respected figure in Sydney’s forpurpose sector. MbMH is a unique virtual marketplace showcasing handcrafted products and the migrant/ refugee women-lead-and-owned businesses that create and sell them. It currently hosts the businesses of 60 women from 45 nationalities.

Four of these women are honoured to be new members of the AGHA, and will be exhibiting at the Sydney Gift Fair in February 2023 under the MbMH banner. They are Macarena Erbs of Bonita Shop, Naz Jebeli of JEBELI Leather, Pascale Reuter of The Space Gallery, and Satomi Yamano of Tomi Art.

Any favourite product/s or collections, and are there stories behind them? ALL of them are our favourites. Below is just a tiny sample of the amazing life stories of the members of the MWiB/ MbMH network …

Born in Noumea, New Caledonia, Pascale has called Australia home for over a decade. Exhibiting at The Space Gallery, Pascale is a self-taught artis, sharing her love of colour and expressing her emotions using brush marks, shapes, and layers of paint to embrace internal conversations and evoke memories.

Macarena Erbs migrated from Chile in 2016. As a breast cancer survivor (she was diagnosed in 2021), Macarena has a deeply personal appreciation of the impact hair loss has on self-esteem. From this, as well as a deep need for creative expression, her brand - Bonita Shop - was born. For every purchase from the head accessories line, $1 is donated to breast cancer research.

Naz Jebeli fled Iran as a teenager in 2013. This traumatic experience was later triggered by the restrictions of Covid-19 lockdowns. As part of her healing process, Naz founded her leather goods business JEBELI in 2019. Naz specialises in luxury products expertly crafted by hand.

Originally from Japan, Satomi Yamano grew up immersed in traditional Japanese art and culture. Arriving in Australia in 2016, Satomi founded ToMi Art, where she merges her flair for modern design concepts with a deep connection to the aesthetics of the traditional art and culture of her Japanese heritage using Mizuhiki paper cord and luxurious Japanese indigo blue silk.

INTRODUCING

Imprezive is an Australian familyrun business with many years’ experience in importing within the retail industry. Sisters Linda and Julie worked in their parent’s family business for over thirtyfive years. During this time, to solve the difficulty of sourcing products through retailers, the sisters began sourcing products directly from local, national and international manufacturers.

Initially, these products were sold through the family business, however, when they began importing larger amounts of stock, Imprezive was then established.

Imprezive is now the proud supplier of a range of quality pieces within garden wares, gifts and home décors. Their beautiful decorative wall art and outdoor ornaments are perfect for various styles of patios and alfresco areas,

and their outdoor décor products use Corten and Galvanised steel. The range is vast, including outdoor firepits, letterboxes, flowerpots and poly resin and Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete water features and poly resin angels and garden statues.

Most notable among Imprezive’s stock is their unique “Man Cave” range featuring hangable car doors. These popular doors are crafted to be perfect for both man caves and she sheds with designs including Aussie and American muscle cars and motorbikes, Aussie football teams and an eclectic mix of vintage signage. The best sellers in this product line are the HT Monaro and GTHO Ford doors – their first doors to design, and still sought-after.

The inspiration for the line of car doors came from their love of cars

and a life of growing up around racetracks. With their automotive history and love of drag racing and burn outs, it can be said that the sisters have a passion for cars and are well placed to produce such innovative and custom products! They also make tin signs to match each door design.

Imprezive works with local young artist, Jordan Stewart, from their little country town to design the football doors. They are proud to say that through this collaboration they have all the football teams designed. The sisters are always trying to improve and be better for each design and showcase new products for their customers. Currently they stock over 186 designs and the list continues to expand.

This will be Imprezive’s first time exhibiting at the Sydney Gift Fair and they are thrilled to be showcasing their newly launched

football car doors with some of their other new products including bar mats, bottle openers, LED signs and key ring holders.

Retailers visiting Imprezive at stand #2N18 will have the advantage of sourcing quality products that are unique and custom designed. As the sisters enjoy creating new products and finding hidden gems from all over the world, Imprezive is definitely a wholesaler to check out and keep an eye on for future product launches!
