HOWDY

FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Howdy Ags!

Summer has officially arrived, and it has been great having students and interns join us for Monday Lunch and Howdy Hour meetings here at Aggie Park. Our Membership Committee is encouraging active students to become members of the San Antonio A&M Club by providing them with deeply discounted memberships fees, like $0.00. Whoop! If you know a student currently enrolled at the College Station or Galveston campus, please encourage them to become members of the finest Club in the Aggie network.

In May, the San Antonio A&M Club hosted Coach’s Night at Aggie Park for the first time in many years. It was great to be at home for this event and to be able to highlight the exceptionality of the San Antonio A&M Club within The Association of Former Students. Coach Fisher spoke to a sold-out crowd and did not disappoint with his comments of what to expect from our team as the Aggies kickoff the season on September

2. Special thanks to Event Co-Chairs Lane Mitchell and David Gay and their team of volunteers for hosting a spectacular event for Coach Fisher and his staff.

Scholarship Committee Chair, Joe Rodriguez, has been hard at work to acquaint our Class of 2027 scholarship

recipients with our Club. The students were present to introduce themselves at Coach’s Night as well as at the Scholarship Luncheon on June 5. The Scholarship Committee does a remarkable job of selecting individuals to receive these scholarships and represent our Club. Even Coach Fisher commented on what an impressive group of students we are supporting with our scholarship funds. Many thanks to our Scholarship Committee for their commitment to selecting such superior students. They clearly represent the Aggie core value of excellence well before attending their first day of class.

Looking forward, we will be hosting the Family BBQ at Aggie Park on August 5. This is the third of four major scholarship fundraising events hosted by your San Antonio A&M Club. The final fundraising event for the year is the 12th Man Reload Shootout on September 15 at the San Antonio Gun Club. Volunteers are needed for both, and signups can be found on www.AggiePark. com under the individual event page or under the “Get Involved” tab on our website. Look and see if there’s an event you might be interested in supporting with your time.

Thanks & Gig ’em,

Board of Directors 2023

COACH’S NIGHT

RAISES $70,000 FOR A&M SCHOLARSHIPS

4

Our 2023 Coach’s Night was held on May 9 at the newly remodeled Aggie Park. The banquet was inside the building with silent auction, vendor tables and the VIP areas under our outside patio and under tents that were set up especially for the event. It was a drippy, rainy day that kept the early May temperatures in the low 70’s making the outside areas quite comfortable under the shelter of the patio and tents.

Doors opened at 5:30 p.m. for the silent auction, vendor tables and VIP areas. Coach Fisher arrived and spent the early part of the event signing memorabilia and making recruiting calls to potential and future players. Once his calls were completed, Coach moved to the VIP area and spent

time visiting and getting pictures with the enthusiastic and patient crowd. Attendees also enjoyed visiting with the Aggie Yell Leaders and meeting with Reveille’s handlers. Miss Rev was as photogenic as ever and many photos were taken.

After the invocation and Star-Spangled Banner, a catered dinner of Tex-Mex enchiladas beans and rice was served. The program began with the thanking of sponsors and remarks from this year’s club president, Becki Holmes ‘82. After remarks, Becki introduced Marty Holmes ’87 (no relation) with an update from the Association of Former Students. Marty endeared himself to the local crowd by uncovering the “Original Aggie Park” t-shirt he was wearing under his sport shirt.

Marty was followed by an update from Justin Morgan from The 12th Man Foundation. Coach’s Night Co-Chair David Gay ’86 then introduced auctioneer Josh Garcia who did an excellent job with our live auction.

After the live auction, the introduction of our latest scholarship recipients was headed by Scholarship Chairman Joe

Rodriguez ’02. The 8 incoming freshman students each gave a short synopsis of where they attended high school, what their expected major was and if they were joining the Corps.

Coach’s Night Co-Chair Lane Mitchell ’79 then introduced Head Coach Jimbo Fisher. Jimbo began his talk by expressing his support for moving to a 9-game conference schedule. He went on to talk about the positives the team has going into the next season and the realities of how coaching has changed in the transfer portal era. Jimbo ended his time at the microphone with detailed descriptions of many of the individual players and what can be expected of them this fall.

Coach’s Night at the Original Aggie Park was a pleasant and informative evening and a solid fund raiser (~$70,000!) for San Antonio’s A&M scholarship program. Lane and David sincerely thank all the volunteers that helped to make our event a success!

AGGIE MOMS’ CLUB

Howdy, Aggies!

The San Antonio Aggie Moms’ Club kicked off its 2023-2024 fiscal year on June 1, and I am honored to serve as club president for another year! Thanks to many talented Aggie moms, we wrapped up a successful year at the end of May and are anticipating another great year ahead. Even though my Aggie daughters have already graduated, I am excited to continue being involved and encouraging other parents as they support their students.

We take a break from our general meetings in June and July, but many of our board members continue working right on through the summer. On July 22, we’ll host our big event of the summer, Howdy Social, where we will welcome incoming freshmen (Class of 2027!) and transfer students. Many of our board members and committee chairs have been planning a nice Aggie welcome for these students. In addition to having the Galveston A&M Yell Leaders as our special guests, we’ll also feature representatives from the Corps of Cadets, Spartan Tutoring, University Police, Taylor’s Place, the Student Recreation Center, the Counseling Center, the Big Event, and several other campus organizations. As always, we’ll have fun giving out quite a number of door prizes and a couple of scholarships as well. If you know any incoming freshmen or transfer students, send them our way so we can share more details, including how to RSVP.

On Sunday, August 13, we will host our Corps of Cadets Social for the parents of new cadets. That event will take place at the Cody Library,

11441 Vance Jackson, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. This is the perfect opportunity for parents of cadets to meet one another and learn more about the Corps of Cadets and what to expect for the upcoming school year.

For those interested in joining the San Antonio Aggie Moms’ Club, our meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month (except for January, June, and July) at 6:30 p.m. at Aggie Park. We have a simple meal, a guest speaker or other program, and drawings for door prizes and a $250 scholarship. It’s a great place to build friendships, learn more about Texas A&M in general, learn details that can benefit our students, and raise funds for scholarships. For more information, please send inquiries to sanantoniomoms@aggienetwork. com or to my email address below.

AGGIE WOMEN’S CLUB

Howdy!

Happy “Hot” Summer Ags! May was filled with two amazing events worth sharing. Our May luncheon was held at Albi’s Vite Italian Restaurant in Leon Springs at which time we installed our new slate of Officers for the 2023-2024 calendar year. Pictured below are those in attendance: Carolyn McDuff, Judy Hardy, Adrienne King, Vivian Coleman, Donna Hill, Debbie Castro & Kathleen Graham.

Our second event was held at Rebecca Creek Distillery. Several members along with family and friends attended a fabulous tour and tasting. It was a nice experience and great opportunity to mingle afterwards and enjoy the evening.

During the summer, we take a break from our monthly luncheons, but we continue working & planning for activities for the next calendar year. Our pie committee supports the San Antonio A&M Club year-round during Monday Lunch by serving slices of pies with a smile. Our spring fundraiser “Bags, Bling & Bingo” is scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Aggie Park so mark your calendars. We are actively working on the event and will share more details as things progress. Look for details & activities concerning our organization, when you follow us on San Antonio Aggie Women’s Club | Facebook or at www.AggiePark.com.

For questions about our club or club membership, please contact Donna Hill at dchill1025@att.net or at 210-241-6719.
