AGGIE GREEKS MONTHLY ADVISOR NEWSLETTER APRIL 2024

Aggie Greeks First Annual Community Wide Event: “In My Bag”

In a remarkable display of unity and generosity, the Aggie Greek community has shattered records with their recent philanthropic endeavor. Through their collective efforts, they have amassed an astounding 40,000+ non-perishable food items, hygiene products, and various essentials, all destined for a noble cause. This unprecedented initiative, known as "In My Bag," saw fraternities and sororities banding together to make a tangible difference in their community. Spearheaded by our FSL Practicum Student Sydney Harris, representatives of each of four councils, and a shared commitment to service, the program aimed to address food insecurity and provide essential resources to those in need. The beneficiaries of this monumental effort? The 12th Can, a student-led food pantry at Texas A&M University dedicated to combating hunger among students and staff.

This staggering donation marks a historic milestone for the organization, as it represents the largest contribution they have ever received. In total 13,049 lbs, or 41,149 items, were collected by Greek students. These numbers contributed to the total 43,407 items collected in this year’s SEC Food Fight, a collaboration with pantries across the SEC to combat food insecurity and support campus community members in need. The impact of this act of kindness extends far beyond mere numbers. it has highlighted and contributed to the fight against food insecurity at Texas A&M. It underscores the power of community when individuals come together with a common purpose. It also provides a poignant example of Aggies Greeks success in developing global leaders, fostering personal growth, resilience, increased sense of belonging, and a commitment to being a leader for their generation.
