Architect Pierre-Antoine Gatier began his career by restoring historical monuments of the first reconstruction after the First World War. In 2017, he was appointed by the SETE to lead the 20th repainting campaign of the Eiffel Tower. Soucieux de transmettre son engagement au nouveau patrimoine, il intervient également dans les universités et colloques en France et à l’étranger.

GATIER’S PARIS

“I live and work in Paris, in Saint-Germain-desPrés, a district infused by a collective memory of intellectual and artistic student life, a district full of galleries, jazz clubs and above all… bookstores”. When stuck in a creative rut, Pierre-Antoine walks on over to the Pompidou Center’s modern art museum to contemplate the collection of contemporary paintings and, voilà, he finds the light again!

« Je suis investi dans la conservation de l’architecture historique et du patrimoine pour découvrir, comprendre et transmettre grâce aux savoir-faire. Une aventure culturelle à laquelle s’ajoute la possibilité de créer », nous dit celui qui choisit de faire repeindre actuellement la Tour Eiffel d’un jaune ocre brunâtre afin de retrouver la teinte choisie à l’origine par Gustave Eiffel.

Venetian Dreams

Having taught at the school of architecture in Venice, the city’s flow of the canals runs through his veins. Oh how amazing it would be for Gatier, some day, to restore a Venetian palace along the Grand Canal. « Vivre une ville pour y travailler ! Et l’architecture nous fait vivre ! Elle doit être visitée, regardée, lue. Il faut savoir étudier le construit, le comprendre, le respecter et toujours vouloir conserver d’abord plutôt que détruire. »

An Attentive Ear

“When I was in high school, a researcher came to meet with the students for an informal discussion. After the meeting, I was informed that I had been selected to participate in the television show as an interviewer. The experience was transformative, and that's where I got hooked on communications”.

UN ÉTÉ FESTIF & JAZZÉ

L’été, c’est fait pour jouer ? Et bien, si c’est vrai, c’est d’autant plus vrai au cœur d’une ville comme Montréal, réputée pour son calendrier estival enchaînant les festivals. « J’étudiais en communication à Concordia et une amie de département sachant que je cherchais un emploi d’été me refila un contact, sachant qu’elle irait, de son côté, jouer au Portugal pour l’été. »
