Ag Credit hosted its 3rd Annual Fall Roundup Cattle Show Sept. 9 at the Mercer County Fairgrounds in Harrodsburg. Open to junior exhibitors throughout the state of Kentucky, the event drew 34 exhibitors and 58 head of cattle. Troy Keith from Georgetown was the judge.

AYRES LIVESTOCK HOSTS AG CREDIT CULTIVATE GROUP Ag Credit’s Cultivate group, comprised of young, beginning and small ag producers, recently visited Ayres Livestock, in Danville to see how this award-winning operation is thriving.

Jared Ayres shared a captivating story of how he embarked on his agricultural adventure and gave us an exclusive glimpse into his daily operations. Ayers Livestock was recently named the Agriculture Business of the for 2023 by the Garrard County Chamber of Commerce.

His commitment to sustainable farming practices and nurturing his animals with utmost care is commendable. CATTLEMEN’S ASSOCIATION HONORS GLENN AND DORIS HILL FOR LIFELONG COMMITMENT TO AGRICULTURE AND RURAL AMERICA

You may have heard the saying, “Couples who ___ together stay together.” Sometimes, the words grow, pray or exercise get inserted into the blank space.

However, when it comes to Glenn and Doris Hill, the word most fitting for them is work. Their life experiences, farm success and community engagement were never in the spotlight for decades. That all changed this year when the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association named and the Hills the Region Four Hall of Fame inductees for 2023.

Doris grew up in Arkansas. After serving in the Navy during World War II, her father found work in Detroit, Mich., and that’s where Doris graduated high school.

She then went on to work for General Motors. Glenn returned to the family farm in 1969 and began farming independently in 1973. Doris had never lived on a farm before she married Glenn, but that would not stop her from helping and becoming actively involved with the community and the Cattlemen’s Association.

The Hall of Fame is designed to honor association members who has given their time, service and talent for the betterment of organization at the state or county level. Inductees are nominated by their peers, and five members are inducted each year.

When she wasn’t working on the farm with Glenn, Doris served as secretary for the Madison County Cattlemen’s Association. Many of the association’s members say that she was one of the most organized secretaries ever to serve. However, being a secretary was not the only thing Doris did; she was also one of the first to be a part of a Cattlewoman’s club.

A ninth-generation farmer, Glenn says some of his land has been in their family since Kentucky became a state. After helping his family on the farm through high school, he went on to attend the University of Kentucky and became an electrical engineer. He then traveled from place to place and began working for McDonnell Douglas. Through his work and travel, he met Doris.

Glenn has also been active in his community and the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association. He was one of the committee members who took part in rewriting and reorganizing the regions for the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Constitution. Besides staying active with

Sitting across from the table and listening to everything the Hills have experienced over the last 50 years can make you envious of their life. They’re a great team, but it hasn’t always been easy. They lived through the farm crisis of the ‘80s, the end of the tobacco industry and the inevitable economic ups and downs of the ag industry.

Doris will be the first to tell you that when they both had full-time jobs and the farm to manage, life took work.

“You would work all day and come home to the farm and work all night,” she said.

their community, Glenn and Doris also enjoy traveling together. The Madison County Cattlemen’s and Extension office planned trips every year to tour America. However, when the extension agent who planned the trips was ready to retire, the Hills stepped up to take his place.

AG CREDIT WELCOMES NEW EMPLOYEES Canter Joins Lexington Branch Chuck Canter has joined Ag Credit as a Senior Loan Officer in the Lexington Branch. Some of you may remember Chuck from his time with the Association from 2005 to 2015. Chuck is a University of Kentucky graduate with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics. He most recently worked as a Farm Loan Officer for the Farm Service Agency.

Chuck previously produced 80 acres of tobacco, numerous acres of hay and 150 head of cattle. He enjoys UK sports events, hunting, fishing, hiking and anything outdoors. A Jessamine County resident, Chuck attends Southland Christian Church, and enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He has two sons, Cale, 27, a UK graduate working for Heritage Window Solutions as a construction estimator, and Colby, 25, who graduated from EKU and is now serving in the military.

Lebanon Branch Welcomes Mattingly Ag Credit welcomes loan officer trainee Abigail Mattingly to its Lebanon Branch. Abigail is a sixth-generation farmer in Washington County who lives on her family’s beef cattle farm. She recently graduated from Western Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business and a certificate in brewing and distilling. While completing her degree, Mattingly interned with Kentucky’s Office of Agricultural Policy and Maker’s Mark Distillery. She’s excited to start her career with Central Kentucky Ag Credit and helping to continue the traditions of Kentucky farmers.

Cameron Join Stanford Branch Rockcastle County native Billy Cameron has joined Ag Credit as a Loan Officer in the Stanford Branch. Billy is an Eastern Kentucky University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture business management. Before joining Ag Credit, he worked as a Consumer Loan Officer for Rural 1st in Somerset. Billy was raised on a registered Holstein dairy farm and still shows Holsteins today. He and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Brodhead with their daughter, Raylee.

Taco Ranch Bites Submitted by Jill Hardin

1 lb ground beef

1 (8-oz} bottle of Ranch dressing 5 (15-count) frozen phyllo tart shells

1 (1-oz} package of taco seasoning

1 (10-oz) can diced tomatoes and green chiles, undrained 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Jill Hardin is your Loan Assistant at the Lebanon Branch.

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees

2. In a skillet, cook ground beef until no longer pink. Drain fat.

3. Add taco seasoning and diced tomatoes and green chiles. Stir and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.

4. Combine shredded cheddar cheese, Ranch dressing, and taco meat.

5. Spoon taco meat mixture into frozen phyllo tart shells. You can freeze for later at this point.

6. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until cheese melts. (Add 2-3 minutes to the baking time if baking frozen tarts)
