Chapter Staff Increases Role as Industr y Spokesperson at State and National Level
Chapter staff is often called on each year to represent the Chapter and industr y speaking to a var iety of state and national groups and this past year was no exception In the spr ing of 2010, Mike Dunham was the featured speaker for the following groups: Georgia Tech and Souther n Polytechnic State University Student AGC Chapters, the South Atlantic Division of the Cor ps of Engineers, the Columbus Chapter of NAWIC, the Georgia Black Contractors Association, and Gwinnett Tech.
Mar k Woodall, Director of Gover nmental Affairs, was invited to ser ve on a national panel in 2009 for a joint program hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and AGC of Amer ica addressing immigration and immigration refor m which was filmed by Lou Dobbs In May 2010, Mar k was asked to ser ve as a guest speaker at the national Constr uction Owners Association of Amer ica Conference on the topic of “best value procurement” as a result of some of his wor k on this topic in Georgia. For the sixth consecutive year, Mar k spoke to the Constr uction Division of the Atlanta Bar Association advising attor neys dur ing the legislative session on what is likely to happen that will impact the constr uction industr y

Bill Chambless, the Chapter’s member development specialist, recently spoke at a business session for the Building Officials Association of Georgia (BOAG) on EPA’s new Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Program Rule As a for mer building official in Macon before joining the Chapter’s staff in 2006, Bill has continued to maintain his ties with the building official community and regular ly attends their annual state conventions In addition, his knowledge in this area is a valuable resource to members as per mitting and code issues come up

In addition to many Chapter members ser ving on var ious boards and advisor y groups, Chapter staff is also represented Cherr i Watson, Director of Safety, Education and Wor kforce Development, ser ves on the Executive Advisor y Board in Constr uction Management at Souther n Polytechnic State University and on the Gwinnett Tech Constr uction Management Advisor y Board
Mike Dunham ser ves on the Industr y Advisor y Board for the Constr uction Management Program at Georgia Souther n University Bill Chambless ser ves on the Career, Technical and Agr icultural Education Advisor y Board for the Bibb County Board of Education Recently, Bill was also appointed to ser ve on the Advisor y Committee at Savannah Tech This provides an added resource to members who are recr uiting wor kers from this area
Advisor y Board members are called on to help with fundraising, curr iculum development, and hir ing new faculty and staff Higher Education Golf Tournament Raises Funds to Help Industr y
Proceeds from this past year’s Higher Education Golf Tour nament provided the Chapter with an oppor tunity to donate $7,000 of safety DVDs from the AGC librar y to the Constr uction Management Depar tment at Souther n Polytechnic State University.
Approximately 85 individuals played in the tour nament representing 47 different fir ms Additional funds go toward annual scholarships offered to constr uction management students at the following schools: Georgia Souther n University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Gwinnett Technical College and Souther n Polytechnic State University.

President’s Tours
These meetings are held around the state each year when the Chapter’s President and Executive Vice President visit with members to talk about the state of the Association and hear from members what is on their minds These special sessions are held in Augusta, Albany, Braselton, Columbus, Dalton, Macon, Savannah and Valdosta

Members First Programs
Georgia Branch, AGC continues to have a strong presence in many regions throughout the state as a result of regular Members First meetings and programs held each month These programs give members outside metro Atlanta an opportunity to networ k with one another, lear n about impor tant topics of interest, and meet with Chapter staff to stay connected with what is happening in the Chapter and industr y We continue to hear from members about the value of these programs in getting members together and more engaged
Dunham and Members Joyfully Reunite at Regional Meetings
Soon after Mike Dunham was cleared by doctors to retur n to wor k in December, he couldn’t wait to get out and visit with members Mike was immediately placed on the calendar as the speaker at the Chapter’s Members First Januar y meetings around the state Members greeted Mike with open ar ms as he filled them in on the state of the association and the life threatening medical jour ney he went through dur ing the summer and fall of 2009
