What if you were to wake up one morning and find out that you had 90 days to leave the country of your
birth or the place you had called ‘home’ for most of your life?
Fifty years ago, around fifty thousand people were faced with such a life changing predicament. It happened in Uganda. On 4th August 1972, the notorious Dictator Idi Amin Dada decreed that Asians (primarily those whose origins were from the Indian subcontinent) had to leave Uganda within 90 days or be subjected to unspecified consequences! This book is a compilation of the tales of trials, tribulations, and triumphs of some of the victims who migrated to Australia under extraordinary circumstances. Stories and associated images are presented as received from respective families and individuals. They articulate why they chose Australia, under what difficulties they had to leave Uganda, who assisted them during their early settlement period, and the contributions they have made over the fifty years to the country they now call home.
