AFS Opens Hosting Program in China
D
uring the 2001-2002 school year the People's Republic of China is hosting its first group of school program AFS students. The students - from Germany and the United States - arrived in China on August 1I. They will live as members of Chinese families and attend public schools in Beijing and Tianjin until next July.

AFS has been working with the Chinese Ministry ofEducation for nearly 20 years. The
involved teachers.
Today there are more than 800 returned teachers in China who have had an AFS international experience. In 199/ the Chinese Ministry of Education permitted secondary students to go abroad with AFS. This year 69 Chinese AFS students are spending the school year in 16 different countries. In addition to the new school year program several AFS Partners have short exchanges with China .
