AFS World Congress in Belgium
T
he 2000 World Congress was held in October in Brussels, Belgium, close to many historic sites and to some of the powerful political institutions of a newly emerging Europe. More than 180 AFS staff and volunteer leaders from 54 partner organizations attended the Congress. World Congress is an occasion for the leadership of AFS to come together to discuss policies, negotiate the many exchange opportunities they offer, and set the direction of the organization. In the culmination of a year of work and many constructive debates, the Congress in Brussels approved a new strategic plan for AFS.
