THE JANUS

Update on AFS Trip to Italy We are continuing to organize the AFS Trip to Italy 1994 about which we've received a tremendous and largely supportive amount of feedback from many of you. Under the professional leadership of our AFS Travel Department and Dan Hastings, we are proposing visits to such historic World War II cites as Monte Cassino, Campobasso, Anzio, Rome, Florence, Naples, Venice, and other side trips of cultural/historical signicance. A few of you have also expressed interest in meeting with AFS returnees and volunteers in Italy. We will certainly make every effort to accomodate this request. We are considering a Fall 1994 schedule (September/October). The length of stay proposed is 10-14 days with bus transportation, comfortable hotel accomodations and fine restaurants. The cost of the trip is estimated at $2,500 (including round-trip airfare). Look for more information about the AFS Trip to Italy 1994 in the coming months.

HR 2967 Bill on Veterans Benefits Enclosed you will find a letter from Cliff Bissler (IB 31) and Tom Hale (CM 47, CM 97) urging all WWII A.F.S. volunteers and their families to support,

through a letter writing campaign and other means, the impending Bill No. HR2697 providing Veterans Administration recognition for all our A.F.S. men. See enclosed copy of the speech by Sen. Robert Graham of Florida and a copy of the Bill with this mailing. For your convenience, we have also enclosed a reply card for those of you who wish to let us know that you've followed-up with your congressional representatives.

AFS Archives & Museum will remain with the AFS International administration in the new location. Though we are sorry to leave our cherished heritage here at the Galatti building/313 East 43rd Street, we are excited about the forthcoming move and the challenges which follow.
