The Foreign Affairs Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, told Parliament the hitherto “cordial relations” between the two countries suffered serious bruises after Ghana recognised break-away Kosovo in the former Yugoslavia as an independent state.

Following the row, angry Serbian authorities sent Ambassador Valis-Akyianu packing in an attempt to mount pressure on Accra to reverse its decision to recognise neighbouring Kosovo, which declared independence in 2008, a decade after a bloody separatist war with Serbian forces that claimed 10,000 lives.

News of strain relations between the two countries is coming at the time Ghanaians continue to express outrage over the continued stay in office of Goran Stevanovic, the coach of the Black Stars, who is also a Serbian.

Local football fans have been calling for his head following what critics have called poor performances at the justended Africa Cup of Nation and subsequently, allegations of witchcraft he had since made against members of the Ghana squad.

It is, however, unclear how the bad blood currently flowing between the two countries will affect the Serbian coach, whose fate will be announced by the Ghana Football Association in the coming days.

Ghanaian shopper awarded $35,000 after wrongful strip search

11

Portland, US -- A Multnomah County jury has awarded a Ghanaian migrant $35,000 after a Walgreens employee who wrongly suspected him of shoplifting ordered him to strip down to his bare chest in the middle of the store.

Henry Peth was overcome with embarrassment and shame on the busiest shopping day of the year -- the day after Thanksgiving 2010 -- when employees confronted with their suspicions that he was stealing batteries at the Walgreens at 2829 N. Lombard St. Peth, an immigrant from Ghana, thinks he was targeted because he is black, and he told the employees so.

During a three-day trial last week, Peth testified that he was shopping for Christmas lights. When the store's assistant manager, Daniel Martinez, approached him, saying someone had seen Peth put something in his pocket. Peth responded that he had nothing but his cell phone. Peth then testified that a clerk declared that Peth was lying and that the merchandise must be under his sweatshirt.

Bino and Fino isn't the only children's cartoon produced in Africa. "Tinga Tinga Tales," for example, is made in Kenya for the BBC, while "Jungle Beat" "People complain that Africa is not represented well in the media," says Waziri. "I understand that, but is produced in South Africa and has been shown my point is Nigeria and other parts of Africa aren't internationally. "I said I'm not going do African folk tales, animals - that's what you get in (animated movie) 'Madagascar' -- we don't want to do that," he says.

About that time Jeffrey Biesenthal, the store's manager, arrived and, according to Peth, the three men boxed him in, in a narrow aisle. Peth said the assistant manager told him that if he didn't have anything, he needed to "take it off." After Peth shed all three layers and shook them out, the employees found no merchandise.

Peth's Portland attorney, Greg Kafoury, told jurors that the "systemic stripping" left Peth disgraced -- particularly because the 44-year-old had lived the first 32 years of his life in an African farming community, where honesty and reputation are everything. Thieves are beaten with bamboo, Kafoury said.

"In Ghana, thieves stealing milk or a chicken are stealing food from the mouth of someone else's child," Kafoury said. "They are paraded on market day. Publicly shunned. The family shamed."

But the Walgreens manager and assistant manager told jurors that Peth lifted up his shirts to expose his chest without being asked. They said they never ordered him to do so.

A clerk working the photo counter said she saw him wearing only his undershirt before turning away. Her account conflicted with that of the other employees.

The law allows shopkeepers to question and reasonably confine someone if they have probable cause to suspect shoplifting. But employees didn't confine Peth, said Nicholas Kampars, the attorney representing Walgreens, the nation's largest drugstore chain with roughly 7,800 stores.

Kafoury sought video of the confrontation, but the store manager said it didn't exist. Walgreens, however, produced video just before the confrontation of Peth walking down the battery aisle. It shows Peth looking at goods and touching them, but not taking them.

Jurors unanimously decided that the employees had probable cause to stop Peth and that he had been confined, and 9-3 that the confinement wasn't reasonable. After a full afternoon of deliberations, they voted 9-3 to award him the $35,000.

Peth phoned his mother hours later -- at 6 a.m. in Ghana -- to tell her that the family name had been cleared. He said he feels vindicated. It will take him some time, though, to recover from the psychological trauma of wrongly being branded a thief, he said. "I feel much better," he said. "Justice has been served."

There is an exception to the rule when you put on work clothes that look bedraggled and slouchy. In this manner, no one at the office will take you seriously as you go on about your business. Give in to Strength Her Page

T

Dr. Miriam C. Gyimah

he choices we generally have to make in life are simple. Our choice is to do or not to do. However, we are beset with so many petty and unnecessary behaviors and characteristics that the very simple and wise choices we ought to make are often the ones that we fail to make. We consciously make a left turn, when a situation actually calls for a right turn. Then we find ourselves in hot and undesirable spots. We regress instead of progress. We have the power in our hands to make the right choice, but forego that choice too often and choose a path that is not beneficial but harmful. It will be wise for us to pause and, guided by the word of God, choose the right path. We should progress, not regress. There are basic characteristic weaknesses that hinder us from advancing on various levels. They present themselves in impatience, anger, lying, gossiping, cheating, backbiting, insulting, swindling, wastefulness, stealing, jealousy, argumentativeness, selfishness, greediness, slothfulness and so on. We can become easily entangled in these characteristics as if they are webs. But these are webs that could very well be averted, because they are quite visible to the eye. Yet, we walk into these webs then when caught in them, we find that we are awkwardly and desperately attempting to free ourselves from their unpleasant, yet very real attachment to us. Instead of allowing such mannerisms to hinder us, let us rather vow to set ourselves apart from these behavioral downfalls. Let us choose that our names will not be referenced as a source of lies and gossip. Let us choose that we will not be remotely associated with speaking hypocritically. Let us choose that we will not be labeled as lazy, incompetent, weak or untrustworthy. Let us choose that in future instances, we will project strength and integrity. Let us choose to abide in God’s will. That though it can be very easy, we will not allow ourselves to become victims of our weaknesses. Let us consciously acknowledge these issues in our beings and choose to let our better selves prevail. We shall rather give in to strength and not to weakness. Scenario #1 You work in an environment with various people and personalities. The office is not only a place where current events and enter-

tainment news are discussed, but it is also a space where employees gossip about each other, mixing up truth, lies and rumors. You are a part of this environment and someone comes to you with a negative report about another co-worker. What do you do? Do you listen and join in with your own input and even make inquiries regarding the dirt being dished, desiring to be well fed with this new gossip? Today, I will say to my sister or brother to give in to strength. Don’t see this as an opportunity to have your hearing and curiosity satisfied with hot and juicy gossip. Rather, shut the itching ear and rest the gossiping tongue. It is easy for us all to walk into the trap of gossiping and even backbiting, especially if we think the person deserves it. But we can do better. We can turn off our hearing to the gossip and instead of engaging in it, abstain from it with a deafening silence. I know a woman who when someone comes to her with gossip about another, would say to the gossiper, “let me go and ask her (the victim of the gossip) if it is true and can I tell her that you are the one who told me this?” What typically happens here is that the gossiper would refuse to be referenced or even associated with the gossip. When this happens, then this lady would say, “then don’t come to me with any such information again.” And of course, that person never returns to her with any more innuendo. This woman could have easily fallen victim to gossip by satisfying her itching ears and enjoyed the pleasures of privately gossiping about another, but she chooses to give in to strength. That is strength of character. She chooses not to become entangled in a web of confusion and lies. Can we all do that? Scenario #2 A couple is highly involved in their church with their services and financial giving. The entire church knows them well and acknowledges that they are good Christians. However, during one fundraising event in their church, they pledged to sell a property and give all its proceeds to the church. But when they sold it and realized that the property yielded more money than they had anticipated parting with, they conspired to keep a part of the proceeds and give only a portion to the church. As it would turn out, when they came to offer the sum to the church, the pastor asked them if the amount they were offering was the full proceeds from the sale of the property. United in their lie, they insisted that their offering was the full amount. There and then, the couple fell dead, for they had lied not simply to the pastor, but they had lied to the Holy Spirit of

God. Here, this couple allowed themselves to be victims of covetousness, greediness, swindling, thievery and a lying tongue. Had the couple known that they would have gotten sick or even die by lying and keeping part of the money, I am sure they would not have made that poor decision. But the fact is that choosing to do the right thing shouldn’t be based on what you think people might know or find out, but it should be based on what you know to be the better thing to do. This couple, Ananias and Sapphira (as accounted in Acts 5), chose to lust after money instead of honoring their vows. What basic commandments do we fail to observe? Does it have to do with tithing, offering, paying our vows to God? Sometimes in the midst of hardships, we make vows to God and when God answers our prayers, we seem to compromise our word. We try to play with God as if He has forgotten that we made a vow to Him or as if God doesn’t need us to honor that vow. We vow, “Lord, if you open the door for me to get a job, I will do this and that….” If you make a way for me to come to the United States or England and change my life’s course, I will do this and that for you…” “If you hear my prayers, have mercy on me and grant my desire to bear a child of my own, I will do this and that….” In our need and desperation, we make such vows and promises and when we get what we need, then we pretend to have spiritual amnesia or simply brush off our vows. Unlike the couple above who not only broke their vow but also lied, let’s give in to strength. Let us do what we have promised to do. Honoring our vows might be more challenging than lying and withholding from God, but it shows the strength of our character; it shows integrity and moreover, it will be a further blessing unto us. Besides, can we afford to handle the repercussions of breaking a vow to God? We suffer such repercussions all the time, but because we are not spiritually engaged, or because we have brushed off our infraction as nothing at all, we are clueless about the source of some hardships we face.

“Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” Matt. 26:38-41.

Scenario #3 Lastly, let us consider the situation of Jesus and the disciples on the eve of His crucifixion. When Jesus went into the Garden of Gethsemane to pray, He took along with Him His three most trusted disciples, Peter, James and John. “He said to them, ‘my soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch

March 2012

Page

20

with Me’…and He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed…” He was trusting them to support Him in His hour of need. He needed them to pray, for He knew the tremendous course ahead of Him as well as them. Yet, each time He returned from prayer, He saw that they had fallen asleep. When He found them asleep, He said to Peter, “so you men could not keep watch with Me for an hour? Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” Matt. 26:38-41. When you read the events surrounding the crucifixion of Christ, you can plainly see how the disciples deserted Jesus although they had sworn to Him that they would be with Him even unto death. Did they intentionally lie? Probably not, because they felt and believed that they loved Him so much so that they would support Him in spite of what may come. Would you have been able to honor your word to Christ even as Peter, James, and John could not? The Lord Jesus Himself knew that the men were genuine with their intentions when He told them “keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” The lesson here is not that the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak as we all are guilty of quoting this scripture and using it as an excuse. Rather, the lesson here is that we should be careful to keep watching and praying that we may not enter into temptation. While we can never be perfect, we can do better with the help of God if we are indeed careful to watch and pray so that we do not fall into temptation. If we are conscious and desirous of watching and praying, then we would be careful not to fall into a gossiping or lying habit. If we are careful to watch and pray, then we will even be fearful to make a vow to God and then turn around and break it after God has graciously answered our prayers. Finally, if we are careful to watch and pray, then we will be faithful to God in the area of ministry that He has called us into, instead of falling asleep on the job or simply quitting the work He has entrusted to us, because it became challenging. If we are able to do these things, then we are giving in to strength and our Father above could only be proud of us as He was of His servants Job, Abraham and Moses. Can we give into strength? Of course!

Nelson Mandela banknotes to be issued by South Africa

"At this age I can still go some distance, can't I," Mugabe said, laughing, clapping his hands and rocking in his chair.

Mugabe once charmed global figures with his wit and intellect in the early years of his rule when a relatively rich Zimbabwe was praised for its education and social systems.

Mugabe has shared power with long-time foe Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai over the last three years after violent and disputed elections in 2008.

Mugabe has been nominated as ZANU-PF party's candidate and intends to run in an election he wants held this year. That would be a year ahead of schedule under the power-sharing deal which also calls for a new constitution to be drawn up and approved ahead of the poll.

"It's not a secret that there is grumbling in the party over his decision to go on and on, but those seeking to succeed him are not strong enough to challenge him," said Eldred Masunungure, a political science professor at the University of Zimbabwe.

"They are stuck with him for better or worse, and the attitude in ZANU-PF appears to be - lets hope for the best," Masunungure added.

A June 2008 U.S. diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks last year said Mugabe had prostate cancer that had spread to other organs. His doctor urged him to step down in 2008, according to the cable.

But he has since become a pariah in the West, blamed for running the economy into the ground and for massive human rights abuses to Mugabe, who has ruled the southern keep his grip on power. South Africa is to issue a complete set of banknotes bearing the image of its first black president, Nelson Mandela. Mr Mandela, now 93, was released from prison on 11 February 1990 after 27 years in prison. President Jacob Zuma said the banknotes were a "humble gesture" to express South Africa's "deep gratitude".

Mr Mandela won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 for his campaign against white minority rule (apartheid). He was elected president the following year.

Known affectionately by his clan name "Madiba", he has now retired from public life.

Speaking at the central bank in Pretoria, President Jacob Zuma called Mr Mandela's release "the beginning of a new era of hope". "With this humble gesture, we are expressing our deep gratitude as the South African people, to a life spent in service of the people of this country and in the cause of humanity worldwide," he said. Advance notice of the news conference at the central bank had briefly rattled the markets, jittery about the state of South Africa's economy.

No date for the release of the new notes has yet been announced. Production has already begun, but the latest edition of the currency will only be distributed towards the end of the year.

Critics say ZANU-PF has helped ruin one of Africa's most promising economies with its seizures and distribution of white-owned commercial farms, and its more recent drive to force foreign-owned firms to transfer majority shareholdings to Zimbabweans.

One year ago, Ouattara was largely confined to an Abidjan hotel by his political foe, ex-president Laurent Gbagbo, who had refused to accept defeat after a November 2010 vote.

“For the chairman of the authority we have also unanimously agreed that the President of Cote d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara,” would take over, Jonathan said at a meeting of the Economic Community of West African States in Abuja.

A few decades ago, music was seen more as a passion than a profession. But not anymore. It has gone beyond passion and has become more than a vocation. In recent times, we see people actually going to school to study music. It has become a career through which not only those who are deft in the art, but even the government can generate revenue. With endorsement deals, sales of compact discs, shows, etc, some musicians earn a lot of money, and respect too. Many of them are role models to the younger generation. In no particular order, Life&Beat lists the top six players in the industry who have made a success of showbiz.

Don Jazzy –Michael Enebeli, also known as Don Jazzy, is the founder of Mo’Hits. Reputed to be one of the best and most sought after producers, showbiz-savvy Nigerians don’t refer to him as a music producer but THE music producer. At age five, Don Jazzy already had eyes for the microphone, the music console and was always in the studio. He was a member of Good Morning Kids, a group created by his father. Don Jazzy is known for his business dexterity. Little wonder he successfully built Mo’Hits from scratch to become one of the biggest entertainment empires in the country. He recently signed a recording deal with international superstar, Kanye West – a move that not only boosted his reputation as an entertainer, but also his wealth.

P- Square – The singing and dancing duo, Peter and Paul Okoye, are unarguably among the richest in the industry. They won the KORA award for Best Africa Artiste 2010. The award came with $1m (N150m). Shortly after, the duo got an endorsement deal with Globacom telecommunications worth about N240m for four years. The hip-hop artistes had one of their greatest international gigs last year. Their American tour of seven cities earned them a whopping $1m (N150m). After a misunderstanding with their landlord, the duo built a house they named Squareville in the same neighbourhood. The house, which they completed in less than six months, is valued at N300m. They own Rayfield Hotel, Jos, and two multi-million naira factories in the same city, where they built a multimillion naira bakery and sachet water companies for their dad and mum, among other investments. The bulk of their wealth comes from concerts, especially in Africa. The duo have sold above 14 million copies of their CDs since 2005. They are said to charge about N2m per show.

Hon. Mohammed Mumuni-Ghana’s Foreign Minister launching the book on U.S-Ghana Relations

“Campaign to Promote Civic Education in Ghana” March

“The United States & Ghana” is the most comprehensive pictorial compilation of historic events and moments between the United States & Ghana since 1957. The 250 page book uses over 500 carefully selected historical photographs and supporting text to recount U.S.-Ghana and U.S-Africa relations on a chronological time line as has never been done before. Among other things it is a reference book for diplomats, investors and development workers, a coffee table book for American, Ghanaian and African families at home or abroad, and a text book for youth and students.

Foreword for the book was written by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs - Honorable Muhammad Mumuni who also launched the book during Ghana’s 55th independence anniversary reception held at the Ghana Embassy in Washington, DC.

The book is a culmination of a 4-year research on U.S.Ghana/Africa relations. It was authored by Frederick Nnoma-Addison, a Ghanaian-born U.S.-based journalist and published by AMIP News in Washington, DC. To obtain copies of this historic volume call 202 460 3912 or visit www.amipnewsonline.org.

Launched in Virginia

On Sunday February 26, 2012 Mr. Ken Atta-Boakye a Ghanaian writer based in Virginia launched a new book on civic education in Ghana. Mr. Atta-Boakye in recent times initiated a “Project Save Your Village/Town”. This project according to him is an initiative targeted at directly connecting the migrant Ghanaians with their people at home. According to him the project is intended to pool resources and expertise from Ghanaians in the diaspora to be taken back home to Ghana to champion causes like the provision of education to children in respective villages . A simple effort like collecting books that will further enhance and broaden the intellectual horizon of students back in Ghana would go a long way in supplementing what they're already receiving from the educational systems back home. Mr. Atta-Boakye’s vision has been translated into this book which would go a long way to help uplift the educational system in Ghana. The event which was held at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Woodbridge , Virginia was attended and the guests really appreciated the work of Mr. Atta-Boakye . 2012

The book , “Move on, God Got You Covered! “ has precipitated its own importance through the word of the Apostle Kofi Adonteng Boateng. As an Apostle of Christ responsible for initiating a belief system and blessed with an astute personality which is reflected in his vision and work, Dr. Kofi Adonteng Boateng, is characterized by buzz words like Amenooo – a catch phrase used by members in the ministry. With the wide repertoire of blessings he has achieved personally and by his congregation as well, it is not surprising that Apostle’s work contained in this book brings blessings to people with issues – social or personal; spiritual or physical.

Issues such as the modern African Diaspora have influenced the birth of this book. However, the pertinent issues like Immigration, Abandonment, Child Truancy, Student Failure, Divorce, Sickness, and Bareness have been relatively explored in the book. They are discussed as the corollary results of the aforementioned Diaspora. The author has strongly felt the pull of the book’s influence even before it came into being. It features a never before seen ad use of phraseology with anointing scripture quotations from the Bible attractive and influential enough to encourage, teach and uplift people from any form of situation – good or bad. The scenarios, story and folklore/ inspirational hymns applied in to the book are relevant and spiritual. It is the author’s wish that after reading this book, readers will have a leap of faith, develop patience and experience a faculty of redemption as they experience the finger of God upon their lives. Perspectives in life will certainly be changed in Jesus’ name. The new inspirational book, “Move On: God Got Your Covered” and a movie entitled “Benji” were launched on March 3rd, 2012 at a very impressive ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in

Alexandria, Virginia which attracted a crowd of over 700 people from different parts of the United States and the world The movie features Ghanaian stars Mercy Asiedu, Rose Mensah (Kyeiwaa), Clement Bonney (Mr. Beautiful), and comedian Kwaku Manu. These stars were in Virginia to attend the premiere of the sought after movie. A red carpet was rolled out for all the guests who attended the premiere at the Alexandria Mark Center Hilton . The Ballrooom was packed as early as 8pm after people arrived on the red carpet and spent time taking pictures and interacting with family and friends. It was a delight to see men and women in their best evening attire. The Apostle arrived at the hotel with other ministers and the movie stars in a stretch limousine and were ushered into the ballroom amidst chants of excitement . He used the opportunity to express his appreciation to the technical team who put the movie together and emphasized his commitment to support orphans and the homeless all over the world. He encouraged the crowd by stating, “When you have a vision for any good project , do not worry about how it is going to be executed because God will always make a provision” . He used the movie “Benji” as an example. When he had the vision to make a movie, he had no idea who the leading actors were going to be. However, by chance, he met Mercy Asiedu in Connecticut, who also introduced the other actors to him, who also happened to be in the United States at the same time.

The proceeds from the sale of the movie and book will be used to support the orphans and feed the homeless. The book has currently been selected for an exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany in July, 2012. (See pictures on Pages 30 and 31)

THE GIFT OF THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: A PROMISE FOR ALL BORN AGAIN CHRISTIANS – Part 2

Afrikan

Post

Rev. George Annan

Browsing through the book of Acts we underscored in the part 1 of this article how that 20 years after Pentecost disciples of Jesus were still being baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Chapter 8 (8 years after Pentecost), chapter 10 (10 years after Pentecost) and chapter 19 (20years after Pentecost) of the book of Acts all confirms prophesy that the promise of the person of the holy spirit is for all flesh; as many as the Lord our God shall call, all born again believers. Paul’s converson When Ananias was sent by God in a vision to Saul who had gotten blind after an encounter with the Lord Jesus on the road to Damascus, Ananias put his hands on Saul and prayed for him to receive his sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit Acts 9:1- 17. There is no record that Paul immediately spoke in tongues but when he was addressing a misconception and the misuse of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Corinthian Church he boasted to speak in tongues more than all the rest of the children of God but was still able to bring his spirit under subjection because; and he goes on to give the hint that the spirit of the prophet are subject to them. He concluded with an admonishing that believers should not forbid to speak in tongues 1 Corinthians 14:18. Paul’s experience will definitely not be deferent from how it happened on the Pentecost day. Indwelling of the Holy Spirit occurs at the time of conversion but the infilling of the Holy Spirit is a matter of choice Throughout the book of Acts which contains significant events occurring in the early church, the baptism of the Holy Spirit was always evidenced by the speaking of tongues. The variation is seen in the time of baptism and the mode which from the scriptures noted above shows of less significance. In Acts chapter 8 the new converts got the chance to be introduced to the Holy Ghost baptism after they were baptized in water Acts 8:12. Even though they had been baptized in water verse 15-16 of Acts chapter 8 says the Holy Spirit had fallen on none of them. They then received the baptism through the laying on of hands.

Cornelius and his household in Acts 10:44 had the Holy Spirit fall upon them whiles Peter was still expounding the scriptures. Peter being convinced that God is no respecter of persons instructed them to be baptized in water Acts 10:47. In Acts chapter 20:1-7 the believers in Ephesus were baptized in water after they believed the gospel but had not heard of the Holy Spirit. Here also they receive the Holy Spirit after Paul had taught them on who the Holy Spirit is and laid hands on them. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit occurs at the time of conversion but being filled with the spirit is a matter of choice Ephesian 5:18 How to receive the Holy Spirit Baptism In the three scenarios we studied in the book of Acts all of them had believe in the Lord Jesus and have repented of their sins and had become believers or new creatures in Christ. There in one condition: Peter gave this condition to the souls who asked him what they have to do to be saved in Acts chapter 2:37-39. With the heart you believe unto repentance and forgiveness of sins. Water baptism is just an outward symbolism of what has taken place in a person’s heart and also a public declaration of once believe and identifying with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to walk in newness of life. At this point the Holy Spirit indwells the Christian. You are now qualified to receive the baptism of Holy Spirit Acts 1:4-5. If you truly fulfill the condition of repentance and you believe you are part of the all flesh or as many as have believe in the gospel and have made Jesus Christ your Lord and personal savior then the promise is yours. All you need to do is just ASK knowing: ¬ That the Holy Spirit is a GIFT so do not beg God ¬ God will always honor His word so do not doubt ¬ Whatever language you find yourself speaking you will not understand so do not doubt. Once you have already repented and your sins have been forgiven the Holy Spirit indwells you so what comes out of you cannot be of the devil except you have not truly repented (of course demons speak in tongues so it’s imperative that you have true repentance.) Evangelist Baffour Awuah being ordained by Apostle Kofi Adonteng Boateng

Evangelist Baffour Awuah

Baffour is a young gentleman who was involved in a car accident one fateful morning on January 31, 2006, while on his way from work. He suffered severe injuries to his spinal cord, which has left him permanently paralyzed from the waist down. This unfortunate lifechanging situation has impeded his ability to do any work as he used to do. He committed himself to the work of God by ministering to the youth in the community and the Lord has elevated him to the office of a Pastor . He is a member of the Divine Word Ministry in Virginia and his incapacitation has never been a limiting factor in his bid to touch lives and participate in any event in the community that is geered towards a worthy cause. With a cheerful smile on his face, he reaches out to the young and old as he makes a big difference to all. Afrikan Post would like to congratulate Evangelist Baffour on his elevation to the office of Pastor.

FAITH, the link to FAVOR

GRACE FRONTIER

Rev. Kwabby Adom-Fosu Tel: 703-498-5133

" Jesus then commended her faith and healed her daughter". (Mk 7:25-30)

Mercy is the most important attribute of God. When Moses went to God at the tent and asked to see God's glory. He might probably have reminded Moses, have you forgotten you are a murderer? I am going to talk to you about my mercy. It is my mercy that left you off the hook. As a result God passed by and proclaimed his mercy and compassion instead. (Ex 33:19)God is merciful. His mercy let go and forgives what a person deserves: judgment; condemnation. And His grace endows what an individual does not deserve: salvation; favor. No human being can reach God's standard by himself. God always meets anyone who comes to Him half way by grace (Eph. 2:8-9) The mercy of God overlooks every sin committed if an individual has faith in God (Ps 32:10)

FAITH is the link to God's favor. .

Uzziah, the son of Amaziah sought the Lord in the days of Zachariah who had understanding in the visions of God. So long as he sought the Lord. God made him prosper. (2 Ch. 26:5) This young guy, Uzziah had become King of Judah at the age of sixteen. You know at sixteen he did not have any significant life experience; personal or vicarious to rule a nation. Political sagacity was alien to him. He did not know any statecraft. As result he sought out a mentor, and found one in the person of a knowledgeable pastor by name Zachariah who enlarged to him the decrees of life; principles that govern life. Pastor Zachariah fed Uzziah with the wisdom of God.The Word of God will make you wise, even if you are the most stupid of guys. (Ps 119:130) Uzziah practiced it and had wisdom to rule well.

For example, in a school, a student or association is answerable to the school’s regulations, but in their own case, they provide money for shooting the films so as far as they are concerned, every other person is subservient to them. schools, health facilities, improving access to drinking water and launching an ambitious agricultural programme.

Today, the bid for re-election by the 85 year old increasingly looks as if it could threaten Senegal's stability.

A lawyer and economist, Mr Wade had been the main opposition leader for almost 30 years, fighting against the one-party system in place since the country's independence from France.

Senegal's independence-era leader and poet Leopold Sedar Senghor nicknamed him "The Hare", an animal known in traditional Senegalese folklore for its cunning.

Jailed According to official records, Mr Wade was born in 1926 in Kebemer, about 150km (95 miles) north of the capital, Dakar. But some say his real birth date was several years earlier.

After completing secondary school in Senegal, he was awarded a scholarship to study in France, where he met his wife, Viviane.

Over 12 years, Mr Wade's rule has gone from mass celebrations to mass protests.

Eucharia Anunobi plans to continue acting after being ordained a Pastor

Initially, it was all rumors trickling in about the prospects of Eucharia being ordained and finally it came to fruition last week.

The former bad-girl of the movie industry, who shot into fame with her role in the block-buster movie, “Glamour Girls”, was finally ordained as a pastor at Fresh Oil Ministry, Lagos, Nigeria.

The ordination was performed by Pastor Psalm Okpe, who anointed the top Nollywood actress. She was not alone, as some of her close colleagues including Susan Peters and Clarion Chukwuka were on hand to support her.

With her ordination, Eucharia can fully preach as a pastor. This is a new dawn for the actress who only recently took delivery of $73,000 BMW X5, the wonder-on-wheels, which she used as a new year’s eve gift to herself.

Speaking after her ordination, Eucharia vowed to use her fame and rascality to winning souls. She also assured her teeming fans that she would not abandon her acting career, pointing out that she will be more choosy in terms of accepting roles in movies. www.onlinenigeria.com

and Porpo as we hear may soon follow suit. But is he trying his hands on something else aside just acting?

Osita Iheme (Porpo) and Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) have been beneficiaries of their body sizes. Whereas most people would have chuckled for the having such smaller body, the pair didn’t despair and made the best of themselves with an illustrious career in acting.

Along the way, Aki has found his other half and married in a beautiful fashion

This photographs shows comic actor Osita Iheme (Paw Paw) looking almost too serious behind the camera.

Is this a sign that the funny and prank playing movie star has some director’s blood running in him? We’re watching every of his moves from now on.

Stella Damascus: Entertainment in Nollywood Today

I looked at the clock on the wall. It was already 5pm and I still had one more homework to finish with my 9-year-old daughter. My phone rang a few times and as I saw the name of the caller, I didn’t pick it up. My daughter noticed my constant glances at the clock and said to me “mummy you can go you know. It’s Friday and I don’t have to submit this in school till Monday”. I really didn’t want to leave the house but she went into my room and brought the invitation card to me. “Mummy you have to go because this person has been calling for this event for the past one month.” I took the invitation card from her and looked at it again; it was for a movie premiere and a lot of hype had been done about this movie. It was the rave of the moment and everyone who mattered in showbiz was going to be at this movie premiere. Well, everyone but me. “Mummy I know that look. You have to be there”. So I jumped in the shower, looked through my wardrobe and got the first thing that my hands could grab. A simple but beautiful dress…comfortable for the evening. As I arrived at the Silverbird Galleria on Victoria Island, LagosNigeria, the car park was jam-packed and my driver had issues with parking. “This movie must be amazing,” I thought to myself. As I stepped into the atrium at the galleria, I was greeted by a swarm of pressmen. Flashing cameras, microphones and more questions than my brain could process were coming at me like bullets. The red carpet was packed as I saw colleagues, good friends, not-so-good friends, producers and ‘everybody’ looking like a million dollars. “I must have stumbled onto the red carpet at the Oscars,” I thought. In my normal tradition, I tried to avoid the red carpet because my mission was to come and see a good film. I didn’t come for paparazzi drama. I tried to make my way upstairs to the cinema hall but the producer grabbed me by the hand, and informed me that the movie wouldn’t start showing for another two hours! “Two hours?!”, I exclaimed. What was I going to be doing standing around for another two hours? Quietly, I walked into an adjourning door that led to a store. I chose to rest my legs there till the event would start. From where I was seated I could see the entire red carpet and the activities happening. I saw movie stars all ‘glammed up’. Those who were not noticed by the paparazzi did everything they could to get the attention of the press. Someone even caused a scene as she was upset she was ignored by a photographer from Ovation Magazine. How bizarre! My mind began to wonder as I saw actresses dressed in $2,000 clothes and carrying $3,000 Loius Vouitton bags. I wondered to myself, “I hope her mother does not live in a rented apartment while she is carry that bag o.” The truth is, this is now the norm in the entertainment industry. People try so hard to live the glamorous life, thus struggling on a daily basis to maintain the high life. Entertainers in Nigeria today now want to live like our American counterparts who obviously earn more money and have a better structured system where they are paid royalties. A system where credit facilities are available, such that you can drive a $100,000 car without having to pay the full cash for the ride. Why would a Nollywood actress choose to buy the same dress that Angelina Jolie wore to the Oscars when Angelina earns a whooping $20 million per movie and she earns about $5000? Besides, Angelina did not even pay for the dress and jewelry because a certain designer just made it available for her to use for the event in return for publicity and brand association. In a bid to stay ahead of our colleague and be the ones to shine, most entertainers will give an arm and a leg to adorn the latest clothes, shoes and jewelry. They take tons of pictures and

Page 36

Blackberry and Twitter are the quickest ways to promote their new outfits or show the world that they attended certain events. They live for the glam life with little or no focus on their craft. At 8:30 p.m., I started making my way into the hall that the film was going to be screened. As I made my way through the crowd, I noticed that the red carpet was still crowded and the movie was scheduled to start in a few minutes. I entered the hall and it was quite scanty because the people who were meant to see the movie were still on the red carpet…including the producer and the cast of the film. That was rather disappointing but at least I had time to get a great seat for the best view in the room. Seventeen minutes later, the hall was packed as the cinema management insisted that they would shut down at a certain time, irrespective of when the movie started screening, so the producers and their guests were forced to come into the hall for the show to start. Hmmm….finally, the movie started (without us hearing a word from the producer, director or executive producer). Fifteen minutes into the film, I was still wondering “what the hell was going on with these filmmakers?” The acting was horrible, cinematography was crappy, the plot was equivalent to watching a snail in the NASCAR race and the actors were speaking such poor English in their bid to sound foreign (mind you, the movie had nothing to do with anyone that lived in the US and returned home to Africa). You could tell from the response and silent whispers from the audience that they all felt the movie was absolute crap and a total waste of their time. Slowly, people started to make their way out of the cinema just 20 minutes into the movie. That did not come a surprise to me because I was tempted to get up a million times but I really wanted to see where the movie was heading because as a filmmaker too, I know that some plots take a while to pick up but this one was taking a fast downward spiral into the disaster zone. The story line was weak and extremely porous. The actors that I just saw on the red carpet showcasing all the expensive dresses and jewelry proved that they were made for the red carpet and not the big screen. What a downer!!

If the producers had put half the effort they put into the planning, coordination, glamour and attention to detail of the red carpet into the actual film itself, this movie would have cleared a minimum of 5 Awards at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. Compared to how showbiz was in Nollywood in the 80s and 90s, entertainment in Nollywood today has been extremely polluted with negative lyrics. Movies now celebrate obscenity with total and absolute disregard for the moral values we hold dear and sacred in this part of the world. Entertainers are more concerned about the size of their bank accounts and how they look in front of the cameras for the paparazzi. Nobody cares if they are having a positive impact on their fans and generations yet unborn. These days, celebrities have made it a norm to celebrate their birthdays in orphanages. They make a media event out of it and make the world believe that they really care. The question is, before and after the parties, do they ever stop by these orphanages to find out how they can help improve the lives of these kids. How have they given back to the society or helped people who genuinely have problems that need to be solved. We grew up listening to songs by Onyeka Onwenu, Ebenzer Obey, King Sunny Ade and these people had songs that taught moral lessons and remained ever green in our hearts. Before the era of home videos in Nollywood, we saw plays on stage that made us go home in deep thoughts of how we should affect our communities. Another shout out to Richard Mofe Damijo who took it upon himself to change the lives of people from Warri by creating a platform for them to showcase their talents with the “Made in Warri” series. A few minutes to the end of the film, I slowly made my way out of the now “half empty” hall. The red carpet that was packed early was now as deserted as a haunted house. As I sat in the back seat of the car on my way home, I was full of regrets because I could have stayed home to be with my family. Instead I had to endure the torture of seeing one of the most horrible films ever. What do I want to be remembered for? The Prada shoes, Gucci Bags and glamorous red carpet photographs…..or my service to humanity and the amount of people I have affected positively. I want to be remembered as the woman who used her talent to affect her generation positively. The woman with Beauty, Brains and a whole lot of talent that was put to good use. Libreville — A record number of seven venues could be used by South Africa for the hosting of next year's African Nations Cup finals, as the country seeks to utilise all the stadiums that were built for the World Cup.

Six venues were used for the 2002 Nations Cup finals in Mali but seven would be a record for the 16-team, three-week tournament.

Representatives from cities hoping to host games have travelled to both Gabon and Equatorial Guinea to view facilities and organisational operations.

Humor

Confederation of African president Issa Hayatou said: "I've told the South African delegation that is here in Gabon that if they want seven venues, they can have them. It will all depend on how they programme it.

"We understand the problem that South Africa has is that it wants to use all the stadiums that were built for the World Cup.

"But the country has the infrastructure and they can do so. For us it's not a problem," said Hayatou.

He said Nations Cup rules prescribed only a minimum of four venues. Most costs for the Nations Cup are borne by the host country and cities will be expected to pick up some of the organisational bill.

South African Football Association vice president Mandla Mazibuko said in Libreville they were negotiating with CAF over a share of the profits from the tournament.

Nelspruit, Polokwane, Port Elizabeth and Rustenburg are likely to host the bulk of the matches with the opening game and final at Soccer City, Johannesburg. Semi-final matches could be held in Durban and Cape Town, according to a preliminary SAFA plan.

Three other venues used in 2010 - Bloemfontein, Pretoria and Ellis Park in Johannesburg - are not being considered as they are essentially rugby stadiums.

CAF have told SAFA the dates for the Nations Cup in 2013 must be between January 15 and February 15. South Africa can make recommendations but a firm date should be settled by March.

The qualifiers for the Nations Cup will be completed by October and the draws for the finals held just days later.

Chile Holds Ghana to a Draw in Philadelphia

On Wednesday, February 29, 2012, soccer fans from all over the world met at the PPL Park in Philadelphia, PA to witness the friendly soccer match between Chile and Ghana. The match, which officially started at 7pm, was attended by enthusiastic fans representing both teams. The Ghanaian fans could be seen in red, gold, and green attire ,which was aided by the free distribution of T-shirts to Ghanaian fans. Ghanaian fans could also be heard, via their screams and drums. The Chilean fans were decorated in their red, white, and blue, and many had their faces painted in their patriotic colors. After the players entered the field, and the Chilean national anthem, followed by the Ghanaian national anthem were played, the game officially got started. Although the fans were doused by a heavy rainfall, the game was undoubtedly memorable and enjoyable. The Ghana National team was missing Asamoah Gyan, but it included newcomers Dominic Oduro (who was part of the starting line-up) and Patrick Nyarko, both members of the Chicago Fire MLs Team. Richard Mpong made the goal for Ghana in the 41st minute and MatĂas FernĂĄndez scored for Chile during the 75th minute. The final score was 1-1.
