Ghanaian Parliamentary Delegation visits New York State Senate

A five - member Ghanaian Parliamentary delegation has visited the New York State Senate at Albany to acquaint itself with the operations of the Senate and how it's business is organized.

Led by the Minority Leader and Member Parliament for Suame, Mr. Osei-Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, the delegation made up of members of the Business Committee - Mr. Kwasi Bandua, MP for Biakoye, Mrs Georgina Aboah, MP for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, Mrs.Gifty Kusi, MP for Tarkwa Nsuaem and Mr. Robert Apodolla, Deputy Clerk of Parliament on Friday, (January 22, 2016 ) toured the Senate.

Mr. Thomas Havel, a staff of the Senate Finance Committee briefed the delegation about the various working procedures at the Senate, reports of the Select Committees, Consideration of bills, Executive budget, Finance Committee and other working systems, relations between the Senators and their interaction with the public.

The Ghanaian delegation asked pertinent questions related to their work as MPs, especially how the work of the Senate is organized.

Earlier, the members were conducted round the historic Senate building with it's 50- foot tower capped by a dome, and how the beautiful architectural designs had been maintained over the years. The Senate was completed on January 1, 1899, after 32 years of construction at a cost $25 million.

On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Bandua expressed gratitude for the hospitality accorded the Ghanaians, the useful interaction and information materials presented to them.

Even though the procedures in Ghana's Parliament differed slightly, he said the two legislative bodies offered the same services to the people, saying that they will take with them the usefulness lessons learnt.

Mr.Nicholas Parrella, Director of Students Programs, said the Senate was very happy with the visit by the Ghanaian MPs and hoped that the relationship established will continue.

Shortly on arrival in New York on Thursday, (January 21, 2016) the delegation called at the Ghana Mission in New York, where Ghana's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, welcomed and briefed the MPs on the workings of the Mission.

She touched on the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the world leaders at the UN SDGs Summit on September 25, last year and the need for Ghana to work on their implementation.

"This is particularly important even at this time that our President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has been appointed by the UN Secretary-General as the co-chair of the SDGs Advocacy Group that will generate momentum and commitment to achieve the SDGs by 2030", Ambassador Pobee stated.

Ghana is in a very good standing at the UN, Mrs Pobee maintained, adding that the Mission will therefore continue to work very hard in order to always put Ghana's best foot forward.

On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Osei-Kyei-Mensah Bonsu briefed the Ambassador about the purpose of the visit and workings of the Business Committee. The delegation was then taken on a tour of the United Nations headquarters in New York, by Mr. R. Harry Reynolds, Head of lnformation of the Ghana Mission.

At the UN, the delegation interacted with the executives of the UN Social Recreation Club, (UNSRC), an association of Ghanaians working with the UN, during which Dr. Patience Stevens, the president, Mr. Julian Otinkorang, her Vice and Mr. Ben Malor, Ex-president of the club took turns to tell the MPs about the modest contribution of the club towards Ghana's development and how to advance it.

Senegal Refugee Wins €400,000 In Spain Lottery

Aliko Dangote And Bill Gates Earmark $100m Towards Fight Against Malnutrition In Nigeria

Janaury 2016 Page 6

A refugee from Senegal who travelled to Europe by boat has won a stake of some €400,000 (£294,000; $436,000) in Spain's annual Christmas lottery. The man, named Ngagne, travelled from Morocco to Spain in 2007. Ticket-holders in his coastal town of Roquetas de Mar won first prize, and a share of €640m (£470m), in the "El Gordo" (The Fat One) lottery. Ngagne told one Spanish newspaper that he and his wife often did not have even €5 to last the day. The 35-year-old and his wife were rescued when they made the journey by boat in 2007, and taken to the island of Tenerife. They now live in Roquetas de Mar, which is on Spain's south coast. "There were 65 people on that boat," he told the La Voz de Almeria newspaper (in Spanish). "I want to give thanks to Spaniards and the Spanish government for rescuing me when I was in the sea." Read more on Roquetas de Mar's win Ngagne told reporters he had recently lost his job as a vegetable picker in greenhouses near the town of Almeria. Another migrant in the town also won a share of the prize - a Moroccan 18-year-old named Imanes Naamane who moved to Spain aged four. "We will be able to do a lot of things - everything we want," La Voz de Almeria quoted her as saying. "We were in real trouble before." Roquetas de Mar has an unemployment rate of more than 30% - higher than the national average of 21% - and tourism and agriculture are the main industries. Unlike many other lotteries, there is no single jackpot in El Gordo. Instead the winnings are distributed among thousands of people. The winning number - 79140 - appeared on 1,600 tickets in Roquetas de Mar. Second-prize winners included ticket-holders in Seville and Granada. El Gordo is the world's biggest Christmas lottery, and the live televised draw grips the nation. She departed with a dream and returned home a record-breaker.

Inspired by the Tuskeegee Airmen, 15-year-old Kimberly Anyadike flew a single-engine Cessna cross-country from her hometown of Compton, Calif., to Newport News, Va.

Anyadike is thought to be the youngest African American female pilot to complete the journey, which took 13 days. She arrived home in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 11.

Anyadike learned to fly at age 12 through the Compton-based Tomorrow's Aeronautical Museum, which offers aviation lessons in an after-school program for disadvantaged youths, the Los Angeles Times reported. It was their plane that she flew on her cross-country trip.

The brave teenager came up with the idea for the trip on her own, the museum's founder, Robert Petgrave, told the Times.

"I told her it was going to be a daunting task, but she just said, 'Put it on. I got big shoulders,'" Petgrave said. Along for the historic ride were an adult safety pilot and 87-year-old Levi Thornhill, one of the Tuskeegee Airmen during World War II.

"They left such a great legacy," Anyadike said of the U.S. Army Air Corps' all-black combat unit. "I had big shoes to fill. ... All they wanted to do was to be patriots for this country. They were told no, that they were stupid, that they didn't have cognitive development to fly planes. They didn't listen. They just did what they wanted to do."

About 50 Tuskeegee Airmen autographed the young pilot's plane during her journey, the Times reported.

"I wanted to inspire other kids to really believe in themselves," Anyadike said. TRACY MILLER http://www.nydailynews.com/

How Benson Idahosa Blessed & Prophesied To Young Aliko Dangote – The T.L Osborn Connection!!

10

Let me on board. They all know me; they see ‘Redemption Hour’ (Idahosa’s TV program).

Let me talk to them”. Idahosa obliged, climbed into the plane and walked down the crowded aisles. The passengers were annoyed. He prayed silently as he returned to the front. He turned round, facing the passengers and started “Excuse me friends, I have two of God’s special servants in my car. They must go to Lagos today on this plane. Two of you will get off now so God’s servants can board. God bless you. He waited a minute, no one moved. The silence showed annoyance by the impatient passengers. Some pretended to be asleep and others it seemed were praying. Idahosa slowly walked the aisle again. As he approached the rear, a young man rose from the back of the plane and asked the person sitting next to him to get up. Yes, said Idahosa pointing, you can go tomorrow. You can travel later he said, pointing to the other man. They both gathered their belongings and proceeded from the plane. Benson Idahosa stopped the first man in in the aisle of the plane. He asked him “young man, what is your name and what do you do?”

http://www.sundayadelajablog.com/

And I will bless them that bless thee…….Genesis 12:3

The name Aliko Dangote needs no introduction in any circles. The wealthiest man in the black race as at today and consistently so for a few years. This excerpt from the book “The African Apostles ” authored by Leke Beecroft tells a true story you’ve probably never heard. This is a validation of scriptures.

Born on April 10, 1957 in the then Northern Region (Kano State) Aliko Dangote was born to Mohammed Dangote and Mariya Sanusi Dantata. An ethnic Hausa from Kano State, he showed his love for business by selling sweets even in primary school. alhaji-dangote

As a teenager, he began to work for his uncle, Sani Dangote and it was said of him that he served diligently. Sometime in 1977 and after his 20th birthday, he approached his uncle and master and told him about his plan to establish a business outfit which would trade in cement, sugar, rice, pasta, salt, cotton, millet, vegetable oil and other products. His uncle provided a loan of N500,000 but gave a caveat to Aliko to return the loan within a deadline of three-months(this was the practice at the time).

Dangote first of all relocated to Lagos in June 1977, the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria, also, he then began to travel around Nigeria to develop a strong distribution channel for the quick and efficient delivery of his products.

A few years earlier, the Benin Airport had been constructed. This served as one of his routes to the Niger-Delta or SouthSouth area of Nigeria.

Benin, formerly known as the City of Blood was then experiencing a great revival through 39 year old Benson Andrew

Idahosa, a Bini man, who was established as a young Christian in the Assemblies of God and now pastored the Church of God Mission. Idahosa who had recently returned from a missionary school in America had established strong links with a number of pastors such as Gordon Lindsay, Jim Bakker and T.L Osborn among others.

Tommy Lee Osborn, one of the greatest evangelists in modern times had first responded to Benson Idahosa’s letters in 1962. Subsequently, a solid relationship was established over the years resulting in Osborn’s visits with his wife, Daisy to Benin on a few occasions, either for his crusades or specifically to Idahosa’s Church.

Of all the visits however, one specific visit in the late 1970s was very unique. T.L and Daisy Osborn had stayed late ministering at the Miracle Centre of Church of God Mission just opposite the Airport. They therefore went late to catch their flight to Lagos which was supposed to be a connecting flight from Johannesburg to France, England and then the USA.

By the time Idahosa took his guests to the airport, they were told that the last flight for the day was overbooked. Not one seat was available, the passengers had boarded and the flight about to take off.

Not only that, the jetliner had begun to taxi towards the runway. Benson Idahosa’s new mercedes sped towards the tarmac and screeched to a halt in front of the plane. Benson Idahosa came out and waved at the pilot frantically.

“My name is Aliko Dangote and this is my assistant” the young man replied. “I am a trader, a businessman”. Impressed. Benson Idahosa responded

“The World will get up for you” the mostly Christian passengers responded “Amen”. “My God will bless you! God will take you and your business beyond Africa and bless you beyond measure”.

Just before descending the steps, Idahosa turned and raised his hands with tears in his eyes, praised the Lord and blessed the remaining passengers for their patience. They all broke out in spontaneous clapping. See you on ‘Redemption Hour’ this Sunday evening he said. They clapped as T.L and Daisy Osborn boarded for the subsequent flight. The world has since stood up for that twenty something year old man.

Today, Aliko Dangote is a Nigerian Billionaire ($16.3Bn networth) presently the 67th richest in the world (2015) and richest in Africa. He flies one of the best jets in the country. Believe in the Lord God, so shall you be Established, believe Also in his Prophets, so shall you Prosper! 2 Chronicles 20:20

The plane stopped and the steps were lowered as the pilot The African Apostles:Volume 1 (Patriarchs and came down to know what the issue was. Idahosa began “I Pacesetters) have two of God’s important servants who must go to Oluwaleke Beecroft. Lagos”. “But we are loaded to capacity. Every seat is full” said the captain. “Never mind.

CNN Features Ghanaian Artist For Portraying Top Celebs In African Wear

For New York-based Ghanaian artist Dennis Owusu-Ansah, it took ‘teasing’ to trigger an inspiration that has gone on to capture the attention of not only social media but one of the world’s largest media platforms CNN.

In a full feature story, CNN described Dennis Owusu-Ansah as a Ghanaian artist whose pop art images are taking Instagram by storm.

The unique thing about his project is reworking and reimagining some of the world's biggest celebrities in authentic African clothing and cultural attire, with the sole aim of highlighting the beauty of Africa through his work.

Talking to CNN about what sparked the drawings, Dennis stated; "after witnessing my friend get teased by a group of men for wearing a Kente cloth on our way to church, I figured something must be done to change the perspective of people who are not familiar with the African culture.

"They had no idea what my friend was wearing. One of the guys shouted 'That man has a blanket wrapped around his body like it's winter time.' I saw this incident as an opportunity to educate people about who we are, and what we stand for through my art,’’ he told CNN.

With bright block colors contrasting intricate patterns, the images have transformed the likes of Drake, Rihanna and Beyonce into powerful African

icons in traditional dress and with traditional names. After that life-changing moment, 26-year-old Owusu-Ansah decided that he wanted his art to tell a story and for his audience to learn, "that Africa isn't only about what the media portrays on television," but that it is "a continent rich in history, diversity and traditions."

Choosing to depict celebrities trending in the entertainment business, Owusu-Ansah knows that they have an influence on their fans.

By illustrating them in African clothing, he hopes that it will bring awareness to traditional culture, and allow people to start educating themselves and those around them in African culture.

With over 12,000 Instagram followers, Owusu-Ansah's fanbase is growing every day and he has even branched into creating unisex clothing.

His work doesn't seem to be slowing down and neither does his audience in their quest for accessible African art, knowledge and tradition. Source: georgebritton.com

During the summer of 2014, Francisca Boateng, along with Speakwell Foundation, went to Ghana with the mission of teaching the youth public speaking. Upon her return, she informed her daughter, Samantha Boateng, who is currently a senior in high school, about the unfortunate situation of these children. They had no library available for recreational or educational purposes. As an avid reader, Samantha Boateng was bewildered by the fact that many children her age had never seen a library and did not have this amazing resource available. She decided to change this by creating Read 2 Lead to encourage reading within the community. She began by collecting books to build a library and holding book drives at churches and schools and has collected over 7,000 books. Samantha will build her library this June in Accra, Ghana. She will be aided by the New School of Northern Virginia. In order for her trip to be successful, she is currently collecting used and new books and money for the shipment and development of the library. We could be passing through airport security and boarding planes with just a wave of the hand in the future if an experiment by one Swedish technology expert takes off.

Andreas Sjöström implanted a microchip in his hand and uploaded his Scandinavian Airlines flight booking to it to board a plane out of Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Paris.

He used the implant to check into an airport lounge and go through the security checks. It is believed to be the first time anyone has boarded a flight this way – with the flick of a wrist.

The chips can be bought for as little as £50, and in this case could be inserted underneath the skin by syringe, as it was the size of a grain of rice.

Speaking to Mic, Andreas Sjöström, vice president of digital for technology consulting company Sogeti, said: ‘The system reacts as if you have the ordinary NFC sticker from the airline, so you’re eligible to pass through and it recognizes who you are

NFC… A CHIP OFF THE NEW BLOCK NFC tags are passive data stores which can be read, and under some circumstances written to, by an NFC device. They typically contain data (between 96 and 8,192 bytes) and are read-only in normal use, but may be rewritable.

Andreas Sjöström (pictured) implanted a microchip in his hand and uploaded his Scandinavian Airlines flight booking to it

Applications include secure personal data storage, for example debit or credit card information, loyalty program data, Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) and contacts.

NFC tags can be custom-encoded by their manufacturers or use the industry specifications.

NFC-enabled portable devices can be provided with apps, for example to read electronic tags or make payments when connected to an NFC-compliant apparatus. Earlier close-range communication used technology that was proprietary to the manufacturer, for applications such as stock ticket, access control and payment readers. Source:ScrewLife.Com

Meet The 21-year Old Student Who Built A Business From Home teaching! This is not to say that his parents were not financially sound to pay for his fees nor cater for him but it was rather a responsibility he set for himself to fight to make a living.

Surprisingly, his intelligence got him his first job as a teacher due to the love and passion he had for teaching at CJ Montessori School in Kotobabi – an international school that only employs qualified and well trained teachers to impact knowledge to its pupils.

In recent times, the poor treatment meted out to teachers in the country has made the teaching profession very unattractive. A lot of people with the potential to teach have opted for other more lucrative professions and this has caused a shortage of teachers in our schools. Most persons who are in the profession are now there because there are no other alternatives whiles some consider it as just a stepping stone.

But Eric Vondee, who is yet to enter his third-year at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has created his own business concept called ‘My Home Teacher’ to help connect parents who need special/private teachers to teach their wards at home to wellqualified teachers. These qualified teachers go to the homes of parents in order to teach the children privately.

This business idea Eric explained, came to him at business seminar he attended on campus. “The speaker said something that was very vital to me, he said that every problem is an opportunity to make money or create a business out of it. So it was then that my attention was drawn to students who academically perform poorly in school and will need special attention with a teacher to improve upon their academics. I also thought that every parent wants the best for their children in terms of academics, so they will go a mile to get a private teacher for them, hence the birth of My Home Teacher”

Professionally established in January 2015, the Chief Executive officer for My Home Teacher recently emerged as part of the thirty young Ghanaian entrepreneurs in the New Accra Achievers Magazine that seeks to highlight the successes and achievements of young entrepreneurs who have excelled and affected lives in various fields.

As part of My Home Teacher achievements, one of its students whom they taught at home by the name Abigail Newton received The Most Improved Student on her graduation day and there are many more who have excelled in their field of study.

At age 18, after Eric completed his secondary education at Apam Senior High, he made it a point not to depend on his parents but to be independent. “I made a resolution about myself not to demand school fees from my parents neither will I ask them for pocket money. Because I believe that at the age of eighteen when you can vote and decide who should be the president of your country then you must be able to also cater for yourself.”

Eric acquired much experience in the field of teaching and realized the need to help pupils who were very slow to pick up in class at their various homes “After SHS I gained a teaching job and that was where I grew my experience in teaching and understood how students behave towards lessons and their entire approach to solving and interpreting issues. So I began my journey of moving to their homes, to teach them with the consent from their parents” With the help of his parents and the little money he had during his teaching, Eric was able to further his education to the tertiary level and had since first-year, been solely independent -he pays for his fees and caters for himself.

My Home Teacher currently operates for Junior High and Senior High students in Greater Accra and Cape Coast. Eric aims to expand his horizon to all the ten regions of Ghana to help connect parents who need home tuition for their children to qualified teachers.

Setting priorities right and making sure the right things are been done at the right time are the young achiever’s strategy to success. He noted that combining teaching and academics at the same time has been very challenging but he has learnt to set his priorities on the move.

He advised the youth to make good use of their time. “I have been a major advocate of setting your priorities right. If there are some things that you have to do it at a particular point in time you have to do it. And forgo things that will waste your time in life”

Eric Vondee 21, is reading B.Sc. Actuarial Science in school. He is an Entrepreneur, a Radio Presenter on campus, a Singer, an Actor, and the Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) of My Home Teacher.

Former Ivorian president Laurent Gbagbo appeared in the International Criminal Court in The Hague on January 28. The trial has begun for the former leader of the West African nation accused of various crimes during the war that began in 2011. His case is also seen as a major test for the ICC.

Laurent Gbagbo pleaded not guilty on Thursday during the opening of his trial in The Hague, which drew droves of supporters for the former president, the first head of state to be tried by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Gbagbo, as well as his co-accused Charles Ble Goude, face four charges of crimes against humanity, including murder, rape and persecution.

His crimes were allegedly committed during the war that began in the Ivory Coast in 2011, in which more than 3,000 people were killed. Gbagbo refused to step down after his rival Alassane Ouattara won elections in November 2010, sparking a civil war between supporters of the two politicians that didn't end until France - the country's former colonial power - intervened. Afrikan Post

Dr. Miriam C. Gyimah

Sometimes we think we know what is right and when we are justified. We think we have covered all the bases and we are in the right with God because, after all, we have tried our best and done our part to the best of our abilities considering what we have been given, so we think. And then we are jolted into a rude awakening when we learn that God is not only disappointed with us, but also that He is very angry with us and is ready to punish us severely! All this time, I thought my hands were clean. All this time, I thought I had done all I knew and that it was rather God who had delayed, rather God who had withheld time, money, and sometimes, forgive me to say, even grace! And so I am going my way doing the best that I can with what has been given, knowing that God Himself saw me struggle physically, spiritually, emotionally and every which way with what He had laid at my doorstep. God Himself witnessed all my hard fought efforts to do right by Him, all to no avail. So I simply resolved even after much prayer, fasting and labor that God had not allowed this to come to pass at this juncture, that what He was telling me with all the resistance that I was encountering was that His time had not yet come for the fruition of my labor. But even in my “well assessed conviction,” it was not so. He was not happy and more importantly, He was angry. Imagine my surprise when I read what the Lord said to the Israelites through the Prophet Haggai. I was astonished. I was in disbelief, and actually said to myself during my reading of that prophesy, “is God serious? Is He truly angry with the Israelites, having seen the bitter struggle and discouraging hardships they went through? Is He really angry knowing very well how the people were weakened, frustrated and battled repeatedly by lawyers and officials and aggressive letter writing campaigns when they tried whole heartedly to rebuild the Temple? You’ve got to be kidding!” (See Ezra chapter 4). Yes, those were my words because I couldn’t believe that in the first chapter of Haggai, the Lord was bitterly accusing the Israelites for abandoning the rebuilding of the Temple and telling them how because of their abandoning His mission, this mission that He had clearly directed them to accomplish, He had been punishing them with all sorts of curses. The Lord speaks through the Prophet Haggai saying, “This people says, the time has not come, even the time for the house of the LORD to be

rebuilt…Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses while this house lies desolate? Now therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, Consider your ways! You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes…Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains, bring wood and rebuild the temple, that I may be pleased with it and be glorified,…You look for much, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I blow it away. Why?...Because of My house which lies desolate, while each of you runs to his own house. Therefore, because of you the sky has withheld its dew and the earth has withheld its produce. I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on what the ground produces, on men, on cattle, and on all the labor of your hands” (Haggai 1:1-7). What an indictment! If you read Ezra, especially chapter four, I believe that you might very well agree with my response, but our thoughts are not God’s thoughts and our ways are not His ways (2 Samuel 7:19). For God, our letting go of the things He has laid upon our hearts, because of “lack of time,” exhaustion, shortage of financial and other resources, frustration, discouragement and even our failed expectations of another parting of the Red Sea for our benefit, is no excuse. With what we learn in Haggai, as children of God, we are given a purpose, a mission, a duty, a calling, and despite the odds, and struggles, irrespective of the unrelenting attacks, frustrations and waging of war by our enemies, there is no excuse for us to stop pursuing and striving to do the work He has called us to do. He expects us, we who are more than conquerors through Christ (Romans 8:37), to push on, fight on, and make our way out of the darkness and overcome all opposing forces. We are not supposed to stop. No, we must forge on despite the obstacles and inconveniences stacked against us. We cannot say that every which way we tried, Satan weakened our hands and left us no option. If this is what we have done, let it be clear to us today through the Prophet Haggai that God is not only disappointed with us but that He is seriously angry with us enough to punish us. Yes, if we are in this situation, let us consider our ways. Let us look about ourselves and assess our lives to see how God might be punishing us. In what areas are we struggling? Is it financial? It is marital? Is it medical? Could it be that our children are disrespectful and wayward? Could our punishment be the lack of respect we receive from our colleagues and superiors at work? The possibilities are many. Evaluate yourself. Have you neglected the voice and urging of God when He directed you to take care of his little ones by becoming a Sunday school teacher? Did you respond that you are too busy to devote such time or did you neglect this duty and ignore His voice because you prefer to sit

in the sanctuary all the days of your life to be fed, but not give thought of feeding another with the word of God? When He called you to be an usher, did you return with “I am too shy or I don’t have money to buy the uniforms”? When He spoke to your heart to go on the mission field, did you turn away with the excuse that you can’t leave your comfort zone or that you are afraid of cultural and climatic challenges you might face? When He called you to become a minister, did you respond with the excuse regarding your fear of failure, criticism, and financial dependence on the church? Even yet, what trials and challenges have you stopped fighting through? What brick wall did you allow to stand in your way of pushing on in your spiritual growth and attainment? What situation has forced your hand to yield to the power of evil spirits, accepting defeat at their hands? What have you neglected and what pursuit have you given up, although according to the word of God, you surely would have been a conqueror? What were the excuses of the children of Israel for not continuing the rebuilding of the Temple? When they began, they completed laying the foundation in two years, but the harassment by the officials frustrated and discouraged them so much so that they simply abandoned it and the Temple remained unfinished for 14years. I repeatedly read about their struggles in this effort, understood their perspective and agreed with them when they stopped. They had been battled. They had been tried. They had been aggravated and they had been disheartened. I didn’t see that they had erred when they stopped rebuilding. Even still, God expected them to fight on. He wanted them to keep at it because He knew He had spoken it and that it would come to pass. So it is with you. Are you going to remain in this state of stagnation where your work is not accomplished, where your mission and life’s purpose are stalled? Are you going to give up in that struggle or trial simply because you are tired of fighting? Or are you going to pick up where you left off and let God be your guide and strength? After the Prophet Haggai prophesied, the people repented and the Bible tells us, “then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him. And the people showed reverence for the LORD” (1:12). They resumed rebuilding despite the opposition of their enemies and in four short years, they had accomplished their mission. “And the sons of Israel, the priests, the Levites and the rest of the exiles, celebrated the dedication of this house of God with joy” (Ezra 6:16). This is what God wants from us. He wants us to continue to fight against spiritual opposition despite how tough the fight gets. He wants us to put away our excuses and live for Him, work for Him, avail our bodies to Him as vessels of honor and faithfulness. And we know that vessels of honor are not punished but rewarded; they are not cursed but blessed. Finally, they will rejoice! Let us consider our ways. Let us rethink and evaluate our lives, for where we might think we are perfectly right and justified, where we might think we have been faithful with all we have been given, we could be sadly mistaken and our God will be judging.

South African Mayor Defends Virgin Scholarships For Students

A South African mayor has defended the decision to award scholarships to 16 female university students, which are conditional on them remaining virgins.

Dudu Mazibuko told the BBC that the scheme was intended to "reduce HIV, Aids and unwanted pregnancy" among young girls in the Uthukela district of eastern KwaZulu-Natal province.

Those receiving the bursary would have to provide proof from regular virginity tests, the mayor added. Rights groups have condemned the move.

Asked whether she would be comfortable submitting her own daughters to the practice, Ms Mazibuko told the BBC that she would be, and that her own granddaughter was hoping to take part in this year's ceremony. The government-backed Commission for Gender Equality has also criticised the initiative:

"Virginity testing will never stop the spread of HIV and Aids," Idumeleng Muloko said.

"There is an issue around discrimination on the basis of pregnancy, virginity and even against boys. This is going too far."

Kwazulu-Natal is one of the provinces worst affected in a country which already has the highest number of people living HIV in the world.

Mayor Mazibuko said that neither district nor university authorities would be the ones carrying out the virginity tests.

According to the mayor, those who received the scholarship would already have been tested as part of an annual Zulu ceremony, where virgin girls and women are pre-selected to perform a reed dance for King Goodwill Zwelithini.

An estimated 6.3 million people in South Africa are HIVpositive, with more than one in 10 people living with the virus.

The conditions of the scholarship were "a violation of the rights and dignity of the girl child", a spokesperson for the South African group People Opposing Women Abuse (Powa) told the BBC's Focus on Africa radio.

Chuka Umunna, pictured, said his constituent 'massively regrets' moving his sons to London Ministers have been begged to allow two brothers to return to Somalia after they were stabbed in separate attacks in London. Former Labour leadership hopeful Chuka Umunna said his constituent 'massively regrets' moving his sons to London and believes it would be less dangerous for them to live in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu. One of the brothers is living in foster care for 'his own safety' while the other cannot leave hospital as it is judged 'too unsafe' from him to live at home, Mr Umunna said. The MP for Streatham, in south London, insisted the case is a 'damning indictment' of the violence on the capital's streets. Mr Umunna told the Commons he has written to ministers asking them to issue the appropriate papers to ensure the two brothers can travel back to Somalia to be with their mother - in line with the family's wishes. He raised the case during an adjournment debate addressing the issue of gangs and serious youth violence in London. Mr Umunna said his constituent's youngest son was stabbed on the Tulse Hill estate. He added: 'In recent weeks, his brother was stabbed on another estate in Streatham, was critically injured, taken to hospital and now cannot leave hospital because it has been deemed too unsafe for him to return home. 'Both those sons are victims of serious youth and gang violence that continues to grip parts of my community. 'This constituent had come to the UK with his sons from Somalia, a country ravaged by lawlessness, extreme violence and civil war because he wanted a better future for his children and for them to be safe. 'He is completely bewildered by what has happened and when I asked him whether he felt his sons would be safer in Mogadishu than in London, he told me it would be less dangerous for his children to live there than here.

Talk about overachieving; at 13, Moziah Bridges is doing more than most 30 or 40 year year olds by creating his own line of bow ties. Moziah’s Bow ties have produced $200,000 in sales and have a five person staff on payroll. Bridges is the CEO of Mo’s Bows. In 2011 his grandmother taught him how to sew and his business was born. He was only 9. With her scraps of fabric, Bridges began making unique bow ties and selling them to local stores and online and a business was born.

“I like to wear bow ties because they make me look good and feel good,” said Bridges. “Designing a colorful bow tie is just part of my vision to make the world a fun and happier place.”

And his vision is quickly becoming a reality garnering acclaim from the likes of Oprah and Steve Harvey. He’s even launched a philanthropic arm. “I made this bow tie called the Go Mo! Scholarship Bow Tie and 100 percent of the proceeds go to help kids go to summer camp,” said Bridges. “I feel like it’s good to help the community and that’s what I’m doing,”

Bridges’ success even earned him an appearance on the popular venture capital television show Shark Tank in 2014. His pitch earned him two offers from the Sharks; a $50,000 investment plus royalties from Kevin O’Leary or mentorship from Daymond John. Being more comfortable with John, Bridges chose mentorship over money and so far it’s paying off. With John, he’s already secured orders from Neiman Marcus where Mo’s Bows are now sold online at Neiman Marcus and Cole Hahn. His sports ties opened a seat for Bridges at 2015 NBA Draft where he served as a fashion analyst for the draftees.

“You don’t have to wait until you’re older,” his mother Tramica Morris said. “If you have a dream and you have a passion, we say go for it.”

With support from his family and a growing wealth of experience the bow-tie businessman will surely reach his financial goals. “I see Mo’s Bows adding neck ties, pocket squares and other accessories for men,” he wrote to FORBES. “I also want to get enough money to start a cool kids clothing company that has nice blazers and pants for kids who like to look good like me.” Pocket squares and tshirts can be found on his website with plans to launch a full fashion line by the age of 20.

According to the Atlanta Black Star, Mo’s Bows can be purchased in 14 states, Canada (Toronto) and The Bahamas or on-line at www.mosbowsmemphis.com

Liberian Leader Supports Dual Citizenship

to always be mindful that the nation can progress if citizens learn from past experiences and those that can be used to better design Liberia and sketch the roadmap for collective enhancement.

“As a people, we must move forward with the times, honor our international obligations, conduct ourselves appropriately in the community of nations, and reciprocate the level of acceptance that our nationals receive in foreign lands,” she emphasized.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is urging the National Legislature to grant persons of Liberian descent the right to dual citizenship.

President Sirleaf made the call in her state of the nation address in the joint chambers of the National Legislature Monday evening during which she challenged citizens not to continue the race-based discriminatory provisions of the constitution.

President Sirleaf argued that the recommendation is consistent with the Constitutions and practice that prevail in majority of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The Liberian leader has meanwhile urged legislators to adopt changes consistent with advancements in the global community, adding, “I urge you to propose amendments that would allow any person who meets required standards to become a citizen of Liberia, irrespective of race.”

“I am convinced that coming out of the robust Vision 2030 consultations, it is the people’s will to reduce these terms and I urge you to consider the wishes of the people,” Sirleaf emphasized.

Nigeria's Olubadan, Ruler Of Ibadan Land, Dies At 101

An influential monarch in south-west Nigeria, the Olubadan, or ruler of Ibadan land, has died at the age of 101, his son has confirmed to the BBC. Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade, who ruled over Nigeria's third largest city Ibadan, died in his sleep on Tuesday evening, Nigeria's Punch newspaper quotes palace sources as saying. An official announcement of the Yoruba king's death is expected later. Although largely symbolic, the Olubadan still has strong regional influence. 'Very stern' Nigeria's many monarchs vary in hierarchy and importance with some ruling over large areas, while others are traditional rulers of a village or town. The Olubadan is one of the few unelected figures whom the government would consult on major policy issues in the south-west, reports the BBC's Chris Ewokor from the capital, Abuja. Africa Live: BBC news updates Nigeria's many monarchs Speaking to the BBC, his son Prince Gbade Lana described the late Olubadan as "a good father, very very stern". "He preached humility... he taught us that once you are humble you will be able to achieve anything in life." The Olubadan of Ibadan: The title means "Lord of Ibadan", a Yoruba community founded in the 16th Century The king reigns over a population of nearly three million people Ibadan is the capital of south-western Oyo state - the third-largest metropolitan area by population after Lagos and Kano Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade was the 40th Olubadan A former teacher, soldier, civil servant and politician, he was crowned at the age of 93 years What’s the point of Nigeria’s traditional kings? Mr Lana, himself the Oyo state commissioner for information, said he hoped his father would be remembered for "the passion he had for Ibadan as a city... to see that Ibadan grew and became a better place". A World War Two veteran, the late monarch was also a seasoned civil servant and a politician who served as a minister in the 1960s, our reporter says. In 1964, he led the Nigerian parliamentary delegation to a London conference about how to restructure the then-British colonies of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, now Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. The name of his title, Olubadan, has been trending on Twitter across the country, since the news of his death broke. Oba Odugade was on the throne for seven years following the death of the previous Olubadan in 2007. Source: bbcnews.com

South African police have opened an inquiry into the death of five children who are thought to have suffocated after trapping themselves in a freezer. The five cousins, aged between three and seven, were discovered by their grandmother in Kakamas town, Northern Cape province, on Tuesday, police say. Police do not suspect foul play. In a separate incident on Tuesday, two children died from suffocation after getting locked in a car that was awaiting

repairs outside Johannesburg. Police have urged parents and guardians not to allow children to play unaccompanied in places where their safety could be at risk. In a statement about the deaths in Kakamas, they said they believed the freezer, which was turned off, locked while the children were playing inside it.

Zimbabwe Court Outlaws Child Marriage

By Daniel Nemukuyu The Constitutional Court has outlawed child marriages by ruling that no child in Zimbabwe should marry before attaining 18 years.

Deputy Chief Justice Luke Malaba ruled that the supreme law of the country sets 18 years as the age of majority, hence no child should marry before that age.

He made the ruling in a matter in which two women Ms Loveness Mudzuru and Ms Ruvimbo Tsopodzi were challenging a Section of the Marriages Act that allows children under 18 to marry.

The court also struck down Section 22 of the Marriages Act (chapter 5:11) which allows child marriages. http://allafrica.com/

Rasheed, son of the Ghanaian president John Mahama, has released a song now available online. Named Hama as rapper, Rasheed, who is President Mahama’s second child, is an undergraduate at Ashesi University.

Produced by Liquidbeatz, the song ‘Bodam’ has rapper Hama produce a speedy dense flow on a heavily percussive beat. Apparently released three months ago, but only now garnering attention, ‘Bodam’ has received good notices in the Ghanaian media.

The release of the single ‘Bodam’ is, however, not Hama’s first excursion into the public space as a rapper. Such venues as the Alliance Francaise, Accra, which had the rapper perform at the institution’s Electronic Music Festival, where he collaborated with DJ Kobby Graham. He has also performed at the Ubora Awards two consecutive years from 2014.

There has been no comment from President Mahama on his son’s foray into music. It would be recalled that the president has in the past spoken about his feelings toward the contemporary music scene, expressing admiration for Stonebwoy. Speaking on a radio programme last year he said, “I like the young [artistes] too, I listen to some of the old young ones like Shasha Marley, Wutah, VIP.

“But recently I listened to Stonebwoy, I think his got a good hit with Shikina and Baafira, that’s also a good one. I like Ghanaian music so I listen to most our artistes.”

Meet The 20 Year Old Millionaire Who Turned Down Harvard To Build His Company In Kenya Despite Being Orphaned At Age 11.

Investments Ltd, a company which deals in web-designing and domain registration. He soon incorporated two of his friends in the enterprise and within three months, the business became a highly profitable one.

‘‘We started very small, with Sh50, 000 which I had saved from a freelance job I had been doing as a student and after High School. My first client was so impressed that he offered me space in his office at Rehema House in Nairobi,’’ He recounts.

“If you are in a society where there are intelligent people, you need a plan. If you are in a society that has intelligent people who have a plan, you need a strategy. If you are in a society of intelligent people who have a plan and a strategy you need speed and aggression”. These are the word of the young enterprenuer Mubarak.

Mubarak Muyika was not a conventional school boy, the kind that depended on Dad and Mum for almost everything, from food to underwear. Not that he detested such luxury, but life didn’t just let him have it.

Orphaned at the age of 11, Mubarak knew he had to brace up and face life head-on. He was made to live with his Aunt and her husband who owned a small book publishing and distribution company, Acrodile Publishers.

While working with his adoptive parents, he discovered the difficulty they faced each day trying to reach more customers with the insufficient help of a webmaster who provided a poor service at a very high cost. Mubarak took the initiative to address this need; he began teaching himself how to build a website using online resources. The result of his work was very amazing. In a space of months, the teenager became a website pro. He then delivered a working e-commerce site for Acrodile Publishers.

‘‘I cleared high school in 2011, two years earlier I had developed a passion for computers that saw me set up a website for my adoptive parents who were running a bookshop. ‘‘They needed an online platform to expand their venture,’’ He told the Business Daily in an interview at Nation Centre, Nairobi. Mubarak’s entrepreneurial leanings were discovered at an early stage, when he began business at Kamusinga High School in Bungoma County. This drive intensified as he grew older, I guess that explains why he turned down what young men his age would call a very rare opportunity; a fully paid scholarship to the prestigious Harvard University in the US.

He knew that was the price he had to pay for his dream. Most people found the young man’s action difficult to comprehend, but not Chris Kirubi; the business mogul who recommended Mubarak for the scholarship. ‘‘Mr Muyika is enterprising and focused, I recommended him to Havard University but noticed that entrepreneurship came first and he had no obligation to pursue the course. Nowadays one can learn in many ways, even Bill Gates did not complete his studies. He walked out and aggressively did serious business,’’ Chris tells Business Daily in a phone interview. In January 2012, Mubarak registered Hype Century Technologies and

HypeCentury has continued to grow and become profitable, expanding services to include domain name registration, online marketing, and more. Mubarak’s vision for HypeCentury is to grow East Africa’s economy by leveraging the power of the Internet. Isn’t it clear that the young man is striding on the right path?

‘‘We had three computers and in a good month I would pocket between Sh60, 000 and Sh80,000, which I used to pay my two parttime employees. Our services varied from domain registration to web hosting and designing ’’ He says. ‘‘Most of the new staff were university graduates, I was dealing with the best talent in the market,’’

The entrepreneur Mubarak Muyika is also an Anzisha prize fellow; he contested in 2012 and was awarded with Sh1.1 million.

Since then, several major business doors have been opening at will for the young business man. In December 2012, Mubarak hit a big one when he entered business with Indian investor Jignesh Patel who runs I-Code Ltd. Mr Patel acquired a 25 per cent stake in the company while Mubarak had 60. By the end of the year the company had more than 900 domains.

‘‘Patel had 25 per cent shares, Wakwoma five per cent, Doursey 10 per cent and I had 60 per cent. I retained the chief executive’s position but I had the feeling that I was not maximising my potential. I opted to sell my shares and develop a new venture,’’ Mubarak tells Business Daily.

Soon after that, Mubarak registered another firm, Zagace, an enterprise management platform that uses Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and web-hosting resources to create a basic forum for business systems and processes. He rented a two-bedroom house which acts as his office and has employed about 12 computer programmers. Mubarak is set to take the world and may never relent until he achieves his purpose. He had the option of wallowing in self-pity

with a badge on his chest that says; “I am a helpless orphan, can’t you see?” instead he took charge of his life and became a solution to other people’s needs. You too can take the world, but first, you need to take charge of your life and then step out in faith. You are stronger and more intelligent than you know.

Mubarak also added in an interview that if you must succeed then you need intelligence, strategy, speed and aggression. He broke it down by saying “if you are in a society where there are intelligent people, you need a plan. If you are in a society where there are intelligent people who have a plan, you need a strategy. If you are in a society of intelligent people who have a plan and a strategy you need speed and aggression. He embodies these qualities, no wonder he is a success at such a young age and is tipped to become one of the biggest players in the future of tech in Africa.

Wiyaala Speaks Of New Video, Rocky Dawuni And Acting

Afrikan

Post

Noella Wiyaala finished work on a new music video for her song Leno (This Place). TheAfricanDream.net in a bid to find out more about this video caught up with Charlotte Appleton, the maker behind the Leno video and she tells us what it is like to work with Wiyaala.

Charlotte Appleton has directed five videos for Wiyaala so far with Leno being the most recent. The very first video was 'Make Me Dance’; Wiyaala’s successful hit single from October 2013. Listen to Leno, a track off the multi-award winning Ghanaian artist’s self-titled LP released in 2015 that was nominated ‘Album of The Year’ in Ghana by Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

“It became very clear very quickly that Wiyaala was different. As with all of our videos, Wiyaala's creative vision merges with my own direction and on every video release I feel that we have succeeded in creating video art that pushes boundaries and expectations” — Charlotte Appleton

The video maker also says of working with Wiyaala that “it is a tall order when invited to represent the visuals for Wiyaala's music and of course her vibrant persona. It is a challenge and a responsibility to her and her fans however. Wiyaala inspires me greatly as a director and we share a great deal of determination to push our work to the best it can be.”

Five videos down the line later, the vocal artist and video director have created an amazing visual for the video Leno. If you look at the videos produced up until now, you will notice how different they all are in concept, style and execution.

Charlotte Appleton tells TheAfricanDream.net that “Leno was no exception and I wanted to represent the beautiful track whilst doing something completely different to not only my own collection of videos, but also something extremely different to the videos currently seen in Ghana.”

She been working on projects in Ghana on and off for some four years now (under the name Mr. Chaplin) and has over the years become a fan of Ghanaian music. Her choice to work mainly with Wiyaala is because of the artist’s open mindedness about her visuals and uniqueness.

The video maker admires Wiyaala’s fight to carve out her own path and says: “from my experience in the Ghanaian music scene, this is very brave indeed. You need to be very confident and bold to do what Wiyaala does yet she is personally (and professionally) deeply humble.”

“Wiyaala is also exceptionally focused on set and on location, she takes her career seriously and throughout her rise to success she has always remained grounded. I don't remember her complaining once when we were shooting for hours on end in -1 degrees centigrade. In fact when I suggest we take a break, she actually replies 'no, I am OK let's do this’”

Leno was shot on location around Yorkshire in the United Kingdom where it gets really cold in January, which is the month the video was shot in 2016.

First Nigerian Speed Train To Become Operational Soon

Nigeria’s first ever high speed train service will open for service in March 2016. It is the doubletrack, standard gauge between Abuja and Kaduna that runs at 120Km and 150 Km an hour. Come March, travelers will be able to journey from Abuja to Kaduna (and vice-versa) in less than an hour.

The project which was just completed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) cost $849 million. The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Adeseyi Sijuwade while addressing the media in Lagos said

“Next month, we’ll be taking delivery of modern coaches to run on the standard gauge line, specifically for the Abuja-Kaduna line, so that that service can commence immediately,”

According to him, the corporation was looking at a February-March timeline to commence delivery of services.

The rail project was supposedly completed in December 2014, but was never delivered. And even if the delivery is 15 months later than expected, it is good news that it finally works considering the fact that it has spanned nearly four administrations. Spanning from the Obasanjo administration to

present, an active and efficient rail system has been marred for a long time by inefficiencies and corruption on a massive scale. As since the contract was awarded in the Obasanjo era, there has not been any positive move to see its fruition.

Trains were originally designed to transport heavy duty goods like the goods ferried from the seaports on giant trailers that block and damage the road causing traffic gridlock. Some rail tracks have been rendered dysfunctional and unusable from the many years of being left idle.

A working rail system is key to our messed up transportation system as roads would be eased off and traffic gridlocks become a thing of the past. The Lagos to Ibadan route was also commissioned in 2010 with this Abuja-Kaduna route, as well as the Lagos to Calabar route.

The government should also consider other routes that are frequently traveled and are heavily congested, like roads out of Lagos to other commercial hubs.
