Akon was in Liberia to install solar electricity at two primary schools in the West African country.
For one South African businesswoman, getting more female pilots into the skies is not just her work, it’s her passion. Sibongile Sambo wanted to be a flight attendant with South African Airways, but she did not meet the minimum height requirement to become one. So she decided to start her own business, and had to sell her car and use her mother’s pension money to set it up. Today, she is the founder of SRS Aviation, Africa’s first female aviation company. In 2004, Sambo was commissioned with her first flight for the South African government. Since then, SRS Aviation has grown to provide personalized services including helicopter, tourist and luxury flights to destinations spanning the globe. The Johannesburg-based crew have flown as far as the U.S. and Germany.”It could be a tourist charter for $1,000 or could be a head of state traveling on a VIP aircraft to the United States, which could be about $200,000,” said the entrepreneur. Breaking into a male dominated industry The business may be high-flying now, but it has seen more turbulent days. For Sambo, breaking into this male-dominated industry and “getting to learn the language” proved challenging.
Despite the difficulties, SRS Aviation received an Air Operating Certificate by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), allowing it to operate commercial flying activities, and has helped three women get their private pilot licenses. They are now employed full-time. The company has also partnered with MCC Aviation, an established player in the South African aviation business. The deal gives Sambo access to a fleet of aircraft, as well as technical and operational support. “I’m where I am today because somebody invested in me,” she says. “It’s my opportunity now to invest in other people.” Making strides in Africa Last year, Ethiopia Airlines dispatched its first flight run by an entirely female crew in a bid to encourage more African women into aviation. Sambo wants more South African women to join the effort and make it big as jet pilots. Current growth plans for her company include expanding SRS Aviation helicopter services and its operations across the African continent. “What I’m proud of about our company is that we have managed to penetrate the male dominated industry,” she adds. “Aviation is growing in Africa. We are going to grow with the growth in Africa.”

In this instance he has partnered up with Bridge International Academies, which, in association with other international organisations, is behind a pilot project in Liberia to run 50 government junior schools.
As his motorcade drove into the capital, Monrovia, under police escort, the musician said it was “crazy” that he could not see a single street light on the 50km (32-mile) road from the airport. Akon told the BBC that he was moved by the resilience of the Liberian people after 14 years of civil war and the recent Ebola epidemic.
“A lot of people don’t realise that it’s the people that develop countries; all government does is to try to man-
age the process; and in Africa we have a tendency of thinking that the government does it all for us.”
“This is our country, we have to live in it, we have to sleep, we have wake up in the same environment, so we have to be the ones to create that environment for ourselves; and we can’t put it on government,” he said
The musician said Africans should look beyond race and address the continent’s education and other problems.
“It’s not a black or white problem; it is an African problem,” he said.
And he told school children in Liberia to take their learning seriously, saying:
“We all benefit if we are educated.”

An Experience On The American Heritage Legacy Tour
The institution of slavery is a dark part of World history, which must never be forgotten, just as we all, regardless of colour or heritage should always celebrate its demise. It is a chapter we have to study and learn from not as a way of making others feel guilty or indebted but as an attempt to understand how we got to this point. The American Heritage Legacy Tour, with a theme "Africa, from the doors of no return (Foto below) in Cape Coast Castle in Ghana to Route one in Alexandria, USA� is an experience that will explain it all. That experience has been engraved in the minds of my spouse, Benedicta Skido-Achulo and I forever. The legacy tour was educative, informative, entertaining and amusing; furthermore you meet and make new acquaintances and friends. I recommend this legacy tour not for only African-Americas but for all Africans in the Diaspora. I can confidently say, Benedicta and I, representing the Ghana Embassy, Washington DC and the people of Ghana, have seen and walked one of the slave .

(Pictures Source: touringghana.com) The American Heritage Legacy Tour program was loaded and the weather was a rainy messy day to start with. At the Mount Vernon Annual Slave Commemoration Ceremony, held beside the George Washington House, the few African from Ghana, Nigeria and Zimbabwe, who participate in the ceremony, were recognized. African-Americans should not see the ceremony as their event but an event for all Africans in the Diaspora. Thanks to Ed Hines and his wife who persistently reminded the Ghana Embassy about such an event, I crave the indulgence of the organizers to involve the diplomatic core, especially the African and Caribbean countries in subsequent ceremony.
The gathering at the tomb was a blend of different race and colour. Together we mourned and laid branches of trees to symbolize wreaths and condolence. It is a lesson that should never ever happen in the human race again.
At the grave yard and by the tomb, the event was seldom, fascinating, sorrowful and remorseful. Mourning hymns were sang, drums beaten, flute played, crowned with pouring of libation. The organizers used water for the libation, which I felt was not appropriate in that instant. I don’t intend to critic the person leading the libation pouring, but to help correct minor mistakes that will make the act near to the traditional ceremony. Any person officiating libation pouring must possess the spiritual FORCE to open the way to Spiritual communication. It was very clear that the leader was not knowledgeable in the whole act of pacifying the ancestors for wearing his hut while performing the ritual. For respect towards a deity and ancestors, he appropriately removed his shoes in the wet rainy day and even told the gathering not to remove their shoes because of the wet grounds, I commend him for that.
On the matter of what to offer the Ancestor or Deities, we have the choice of water, wine and "hard" liquor. The choice of liquid depends on the nature of the libation and prayer and what your aim is in invoking or awakening the Ancestors. As has been my own experience, water is for cooling and healing and creating or reconciling relationships. Liquor is fiery and is usually used to rouse, cement, ignite, protect and perform strong purification. Wine is mid-way between the two and is good for friendly relations, creating comradry between man and spirit. This is an important matter as many of us do not realize that when you pour libation you are awakening the Ancestors. The libation is only the first part of the process. After awakening the Ancestors, we have to actually do something, discuss something or perform a ritual. Libation is not complete without at bare minimum thanking the Ancestors or requesting something like support, stability, clarity, forgiveness, spiritual cleansing or protection.
For the purpose of the ceremony, among other request should be forgiveness for those who participated and perpetuated the act of slavery. As you know, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness simply did not seem consistent with the survival of our great grandparents, so most of them died miserable and went into their graves dejected and unhappy.
The use of water to pour libation is an indicative of calming their souls and acceptance of their calamity. How could a group of white people feel so passionate about these unalienable rights, yet maintain the brutal practice of human bondage and expect them to rest in peace?

The US-based Ghanaian Cosmetic Surgeon said this in response to why he became a cosmetic surgeon.
Dr. Kwasi Debrah has a private practice in Bowie, Maryland, in the USA where he offers procedures like facial rejuvenation, botox, dermal fillers, chemical peels and body sculpting to clients.
The surgeon tells TheAfricanDream.net that he also specializes in liposuction, fat transfer to the buttocks; also known as the Brazillian butt lift, tummy tuck, smart lipo, vaginal rejuvenation, and sculpture; a state-of-the-art laser treatment for non-invasive lipolysis of the flanks and abdomen.

When asked when he developed the desire to practice in his native Ghana and west Africa, Dr. Kwasi Debrah said it began in the year 2000 when he led a team of 14 physicians, nurses and medical students on a medical mission to Ghana.
"During my trip, I saw the real need for medical professionals to help in various capacities in the health care delivery system there, this really touched me and I felt inspired to do my bit based on my area of expertise."
"As a women's health provider too, I had several requests from patients who wanted cosmetic procedures at the time of routine abdominal surgery. This led me to obtain additional training that gained me more experience to be able to combine plastic and cosmetic surgery."
"Because I get additional requests from expatriates in Ghana in addition to clients from various West African countries, I figured I'd visit Ghana and the west African sub-region quarterly to honor them" based on this the surgeon set up a practice in Ghana's capital city of Accra in 2006.
Africa ready for cosmetic surgery
The surgeon's take on how ready Ghana and Africa is for these kinds of surgical procedures was: "Africa is ready, there are facilities in some countries located in Southern, Eastern and Northern Africa although West Africa is the last frontier.
This is something I hope to change in the near future with the establishment of my Ghana practice."
A few of the things Dr. Debrah felt Africa needs to do to prepare itself in the plastic and cosmetic surgery venture included the addressing of the health insurance matter in relation to cosmetic surgery.
He asked that special attention is paid to the creation of policies to ensure the right things are done in the cases of developing countries as cosmetic surgery is not covered by health Insurance for the most part.
A major challenge Africa and other advanced countries are grappling with in this field is the difficulty to control or monitor outcome, malpractice insurance requires a standard of care, which is non-existent.

This is the reason why Dr. Debrah feels there is a dire need for a medical group or association to provide peer review, education, and standard of care, especially in Africa.
He said "there are a lot of well trained and qualified plastic and cosmetic surgeons of African descent outside the continent that could be encouraged to return home if most of these challenges I mentioned are given a critical look over time.
We must, of course, consider the technology and cost of supplies involved also as almost everything is imported presently."
Because there are a lot of fake products, educating the public is also important because some people all over are mostly drawn to the least pricey things. This could become problematic as some of those drawn to cosmetic surgery based on what they see on the Internet, TV, in movies and via digital communication, could be taken advantage of by quacks.

Dr. Debrah's past and what he hopes for the future
Both parents of Dr. Debrah are Kwahu from Obomeng in the Eastern region of Ghana where he was born at Nkawkaw. He grew up living all over Ghana in cities like Saltpond, Accra, Cape Coast and Kumasi because of schooling.
"I started at a Roman Catholic School in Ghana's Central region of Saltpond, moved to Accra to attend Kinbu Boys high school, went to Cape Coast to further my education at Mfantsipim School after which I attended the School of Medical Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi."
"I started my residency at Howard University Hospital in 1988 in Transitional Medicine in Washington, DC. I went back to school for my Executive MBA at the College of William and Mary located in Williamsburg Virginia in July 1999.
When TheAfricanDream.net asked the cosmetic surgeon what future he sees for cosmetic surgery in Africa he responded with excitement: "A VERY BRIGHT FUTURE."
Some people believe everything they see in this world of instant gratification thanks to information proliferation. They tend to want the experience, and this sometimes creates an interest in cosmetic surgery in Africa that is mostly driven by vanity.

Business Nigeria Is Africa’s Biggest Economy Ahead of South Africa, Egypt
The International Monetary Fund has affirmed Nigeria as the biggest economy in Africa, ahead South Africa and Egypt.
Nigeria was reported to have lost its spot as Africa’s biggest economy to South Africa in August 2016, following the recalculation of the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
However, the IMF’s World Economic Outlook for October 2016, puts South Africa’s GDP at 280.36 billion Dollars, from 314.73 billion Dollars in 2015.
Meanwhile, latest estimates from the IMF put Nigeria’s GDP at 415.08 billion Dollars, from 493.83 billion Dollars at the end of 2015.
Although Egypt’s 2016 data was reported as unavailable, its 2015 size remained at 330.15 billion Dollars while that of Algeria, one of the largest economies on the continent, was put at 168.31 billion Dollars.
Global growth is projected to slow to 3.1 percent in 2016 before recovering to 3.4 percent in 2017.
The forecast, revised down by 0.1% point for 2016 and 2017 relative to April, reflects a more subdued outlook for advanced economies following the June U.K. vote in favor of leaving the European Union (Brexit) and weaker-than-expected growth in the United States.
The International Monetary Fund also predicted that the Nigerian economy will grow by 0.6% in 2017, effectively lifting the country out of an officially declared recession.

Ambassador Smith Hosts David Adjaye at the Ghana Embassy in Washington DC
David Adjaye OBE the Ghanaian British architect who has come into the spotlight recently for being the lead designer of the National Museum of African American History and Culture paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Smith the Ghanaian Ambassador to the United States. On Friday, October 7, 2016 Ambassador Smith humbly welcomed Mr. Adjaye to his office for a brief interaction to express Ghana’s pride in him for his accomplishments. After the brief pleasantries Ambassador Smith ushered Mr. Adjaye to a meeting with the diplomatic staff at the Embassy. His Excellency Ambassador J.H Smith recalled meeting Architect David Adjaye when he was the recipient of the 2016 Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Mr. Adjaye felt so much at home with the warm reception accorded him and answered various questions posed to him by the Embassy staff on his career, heritage and work as an architect. He spoke about how he cherished the values instilled in him by his Ghanaian parents and also his connection to Ghana, opening up about an opportunity to execute any project in Ghana with pride. The renowned architect who spent three years of his childhood in Ghana’s capital city of Accra briefed the Embassy staff about the inspiration behind the architecture of the African American Museum ”…the museum is saying that, you cannot look at the new world (America) without looking at Africa…” Expressing how conscious of where he comes from and how important heritage is to the bigger picture he identifies with his roots in Adawso and Tumfa in the Eastern region of Ghana. Ambassador Smith commended Mr. Adjaye for his humility and simplicity and urged him to continue to be inspired by the fact that the sky is not the limit for his works and achievements. Mr. Ernest-Burke Asare Asiedu, Head of Chancery and Deputy Ambassador,Mr. Skido Achulo also had pieces of advice for Mr. Adjaye. After signing the Official Visitor’s Book at the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, DC, Mr. Adjaye was shown around the Embassy during which he did not hide his admiration for the architecture of the Embassy which has a spiral staircase with the center piece a stem from an original Mahogany tree cut and imported from Ghana. Born to Ghanaian parents in Tanzania, Adjaye’s family moved frequently from Uganda, Kenya, Egypt, Lebanon, Ghana, Saudi Arabia till they finally settled in Britain when he was thirteen. His father was a civil servant who became a diplomat after Ghana’s independence in 1957. Mr. Adjaye was born when his father was posted to Dar Es Salem in Tanzania in 1966. He attributes his success and unique vision to: “my perseverance and determination to make a difference.” His firm; Adjaye Associates, currently has offices in Britain, and New York and has buildings or ongoing projects on four continents. Some of his works include the Nobel Peace Centre In Oslo, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, two public libraries in Washington DC, as well as several innovative residential projects, a social housing scheme in New York’s Sugar Hill and The Ethelbert Cooper Gallery of African & African American Art at Harvard’s Hutchins Center. David recently won the “Architect of the Year” by Iconic Awards and the “2016 Penerai London Design Medal. Others projects of Adjaye are the Aishti Foundation Shopping and Cultural Complex in Beirut, the Alara Concept store in Lagos, a new headquarters building for the International Finance Corporation in Dakar (ongoing) and the Moscow School of Management in Russia. David has been a visiting professor at Yale and Ivy League universities like Harvard and also the University of Pennsylvania, all in the USA. Be Assured of God’s Promises

My inspiration for this essay comes from two songs. One is an old favorite hymn for many, “Blessed Assurance” and the other is a more recent but limited Christian song in Akan, by one Margaret Mensah, “Ebeba Mu,” translated “it will happen or it will come to pass”. The idea here is that whatever God has promised or prophesied about you will come to pass. So fret not, but patiently and faithfully await the fulfillment of His promises. I recall that when I first heard the song “Ebeba Mu” by Margaret Mensah, I couldn’t help but to play it continuously. The song ministered to me so much so that each time the track ended, I would press the replay button just to hear the song once more. I did it so many times without tiring and I always felt the same impact of the lyrics, if not more. Not only did the song minister to me, but it also encouraged and strengthened me when I listened to it. Then, there is “Blessed Assurance,” a song I am quite familiar with, having been raised on a lot of hymns. However, I never really thought deeply about the lyrics until a week ago when the song came to me several times. I found myself singing it in worship and praise and much like the response I had to Mensah’s song, I was encouraged and strengthened, more importantly, I was reassured. I felt and believed that despite how long the Lord was taking to answer some petitions I had put before Him, the song was accurate. I was reminded then and there that if He had done it for me before and done it so beautifully, He would do it again. Further, I was assured that indeed, Jesus is mine and that if He is mine, then as John 14:14 says, if I ask anything in His name, He will do it. Two days after completing an essay for publication, I got the idea of writing on this topic. My immediate response to myself was: “God, you didn’t wait at all in giving me a subject this time.” I usually do not have topics floating about in my mind right after I finish an essay. Usually, I have to spend the next couple of weeks after submitting an essay, praying and pondering about what God would want me to share next. But God does what He wants to do when He wants to do it, and sensing that this topic was coming from Him, I took pen to paper to begin writing down the thoughts flowing in my mind, so that I wouldn’t lose them, for I knew God had something to share with someone. I hope reading it will provide you with the entire message that God wanted to impart to you. So here I am writing on the subject burning in me today. Be assured. We all know that life is a journey marked with many bumps and a lot of waiting and the trying of our patience. But I am sure that Christians would confess readily that life certainly is much better lived when one is a Christian, because we have an advocate, a Father, a lover of our souls, who is always there for us. What is great about Christianity is that it is filled with the promises of God. However, what might not be so wonderful for us is that most of these promises require that we wait until we receive them. Sometimes, we wait so much that we begin to doubt God, especially when these promises are not forthcoming and it is rather hardship after hardship or delay after delay of their fruition that we face. One might argue that often, things take a
turn for the worse when we so readily anticipate the fulfillment of our promises. Consequently, we doubt and even give up on such promises and God’s words. We then become saddened and even bitter that God has forgotten us. But the truth is that He never forgot us and He is yet poised to fulfill His words and make it happen for us. In the book of Habakkuk, Habakkuk the prophet asks of God “How long O Lord, will I call for help, and You will not hear? I cry to You, ‘Violence!’ Yet You do not save” (Hab. 1:1). Habakkuk goes on to cry unto God about his plight. But God answers him saying, “For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay” (Hab. 2:3). Here, God assures His prophet that whatever He God has promised to do or intends to do will come to pass, despite the outward condition of things. It does not matter that it appears it is taking a long time. What we may consider as delay is only part of God’s timing and planning. He has it all ordered and He knows the best time to fulfill His word. We might think that the fulfillment of the vision or promise is delayed, but according to His own timing, God states emphatically that “it will not delay” and more importantly, “it will certainly come”. The songs I discussed earlier confirm this Biblical passage and also substantiate a lot of actual experiences of God’s children. Let’s share a few examples of God being true to his promises, so that we can rest assured that when He tells us He will do something for us or in our lives, He will surely do it in spite of what we think and certainly, despite how Satan, and even others, will attempt to hinder the fulfillment of the promise. The story of Joseph is a prime example of God’s promises coming to pass in His child’s life. Joseph, one of the two sons of the once barren Rachel, was beloved by his father Jacob and God. Joseph was so beloved that his brothers were jealous of him and even hated him to the point where they wanted to murder him. As a young boy, God revealed Joseph’s future to him, that he would be greater than his brothers and even his parents. To hear such prophesies about his future made his brothers even more intent on killing him. To get rid of him and in an attempt to put an end to his dreams and God’s prophesies for Joseph’s life, his brothers sold him into slavery. The point is that even as a slave, God’s intentions for Joseph could not be suppressed and later, when falsely accused of attempted rape and imprisoned, God still delivered Joseph from this devastating situation and honored him as the second most powerful person in all of Egypt. Furthermore, when Israel was struck with famine and Joseph’s brothers had to run to Egypt for sustenance, Joseph, the brother they thought they had gotten rid off, was the person to whom they had to submit for their survival. The Lord’s promise on Joseph’s life came to pass. Despite how much others positioned themselves against him and God’s word on his life, it is what God had said that came to be. Another example of the fulfillment of God’s promise on His children’s lives is taken from the story of Abraham and Sarah. The Lord promised Abraham that He would make a mighty nation of him, yet for many decades, Abraham and Sarah were unable to bear children. Sarah passed her prime and no longer had hope. She even decided to take matters into her own hands and gave her maid to mate with her husband so that God’s promise for him will happen. But this act didn’t fulfill God’s prophesy and only brought problems into the couple’s life. Finally, when she was 90 years old, God’s promise for Abraham and Sarah was fulfilled with their son Isaac. Who would have thought that these old people would conceive and bear a child, when medical science is against it? But then again, who can stand against the promises of God? While others were procreating many children to continue their legacy, Abraham and Sarah gave birth to only one child, Isaac. And Isaac also fathered only two children, Jacob and Esau. And through one child, Jacob, the nation of Israel was established. Again, what God had promised in His servant’s life surely came to pass and even today, we see the millions of descendents of Abraham, a fulfillment of God’s promise. Again, when God’s promise is on your life, it does not matter what anyone will do in an attempt to hinder it. The God of Abraham and Joseph is there to see to it that His word upon your life will be fulfilled. Take King David, for instance. When God became

displeased with King Saul, He instructed the Prophet Samuel to anoint David, for he would be king of Israel. David was thus anointed at the age of 25 to become the future king of Israel. But it didn’t happen overnight. What age did he finally become king? David came to the throne of Judah at age 30 and of all of Israel at 37! What was the delay? King Saul was still alive and although God no longer considered him as the king, because he had displeased Him, Saul nevertheless still ruled the kingdom. What’s more, because he was jealous of David, Saul attempted to kill him numerous times. As a result, David was always on the run, living in caves, and depending on God to make it alive just one more day. The promise on David’s life as king was delayed for many years, but God’s word came to be. To demonstrate that these examples are not just of old, but that they are still everyday occurrences, I will briefly share the following. I know a man to whom God promised career and financial success. This man had advanced degrees, but at the time that the Lord gave him this revelation, he was out of a job and would not be hired by anyone. Even positions for which he was overqualified were not to be granted to him. Every door was shut in his face and he remained unemployed for years. How does one hold on to a revelation of prosperity and success when all avenues to that path are closed off to him? One could only look to God and fiercely hold on to His word, and that is what this man did. And because God is so faithful, in His own appointed time, He rewarded this man with more than he could have wished for or dreamed of. Furthermore, God did it in a way that made the man know that it was indeed God’s own providential hand that had led him there. When you consider the stories of Joseph and King David, and the little you’ve learned about this man, you must agree that God is faithful to His word. Finally, I know a couple who, having married for nearly ten years, are now experiencing the joys of being blessed with a child. This couple had hopes that they would begin raising a family right away, but who knew that the promise of childbearing would be delayed for so long. One can only imagine what they suffered when all their married friends and family members of childbearing age readily conceived and bore children, only to watch and attend out-doorings and baby dedications repeatedly and be reminded month after month and year after year the pain of their unmet desire and God’s promise. I know that there are many out there who know this couple’s pain. I personally know it. But the God of Joseph, Abraham and Sarah is a faithful and truthful God and when He promises, He delivers. When you call upon Him, He answers. This wonderful God recently honored this couple with a healthy baby at an age when childbearing is a challenge. Thus, once again, we are encouraged that God’s word upon our lives is true and will indeed become a reality. The Lord has spoken many promises upon the lives of His children. Most of these promises are general; they are for all His children and recorded in the Bible. Then there are the specific promises that God has made to individual people. When we have doubts about these promises, all we need to do is to look at the many examples we have in His word to confirm His faithfulness. When we do this, we will affirm that whatever He has said regarding us will come to pass.

Physically Challenged Activist Completes a 1,600 Mile Bike Ride from Texas to Washington DC
Ghanaian para-athlete and activist, Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah arrived at the Ghana Embassy in Washington DC, on monday October 25th, achieving one of his life long dreams of riding his bike from Dallas, to DC to raise awareness for disabilities. The bike ride from Texas took 24 days to achieve. The one-legged cyclist has over the years been working tirelessly in support of the disabled in Ghana by raising awareness and through cross country cycling. His disability has never stopped him. Emmanuel achieved yet another goal of redefining what the human spirit can accomplish by completing the challenging 1,600 mile bike ride across the country and changing the lives of others along the way! On his trip to his final destination (the Embassy of Ghana) in Washington DC, he stopped in over a dozen cities and towns to share his incredible story of survival and perseverance with the youth. South African Airport Becomes First On Continent To Run Fully On Solar Power

An airport in South Africa has become the first facility on the African continent to run entirely on solar power. George Airport, in the south of the country, is powered by a nearby solar generator allowing its check-in desks, baggage carousels and control towers to run as normal on renewable energy.
Her award is in recognition of a 2015 story she produced on the aftermath of the Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone and Liberia titled Freetown Ebola Orphans.

The regional airport’s 2,000 solar panels produce up to 750 kW every day, easily surpassing the 400 kW needed to run the airport, with the remaining energy used to supply over 250 local homes.
It becomes the second facility in the world - after Cochin International Airport in Kerala, India - to operate completely on electricity generated by solar panels.
Around 700,000 passengers use George Airport every year, and it has reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by 1,229 tonnes since it started testing the system last year according to Phys.org.
At night or on rainy days, the system swaps to the national power grid to compensate, as South Africa looks to diversify its energy options following a series of major blackouts.
The operating firm in charge of the project, Airports Company South Africa, announced it hopes to achieve "carbon neutrality", or zero carbon emissions, by 2030. It intends to roll out the blueprint for George Airport in hubs across the country.
The weather in George - a town of 150,000 residents - is highly unpredictable and changeable, making it the perfect test subject according to the project organisers. "The thinking was if we put (the solar system) in the worst unpredictable weather, it will absolutely work in any other airport in the country," George Airport’s maintenance director Marclen Stallenberg told AFP.
Airports in the cities of Kimberley and Upington are also in the process of adopting solar technology, with three other regional airports intending to do the same.
South Africa is traditionally thought to be a highly coal-reliant nation, with around 90 per ecnt of the country’s electricity thought to come from the burning of coal.

Narkwor’s story, which she produced for her former employers TV3 Network Limited in Ghana, focused on ostracised children of Ebola victims who are rejected by relatives due to the perception that they are contagious.
She examined how Liberia and Sierra Leone will recover from the crisis that crippled health care systems, families and businesses. Out of the 17 winners on the night, Narkwor was the only Ghanaian shortlisted.
Narkwor Kwabla’s hardwork and commitment as a journalist resulted in her ascent to the deputy editor-in-chief position since she joined Africanews in October 2015 as a journalist.
She was previously a news anchor, reporter and producer at Tv3 Network Limited which is one of Ghana’s leading television news channels.
Narkwor, who is an alumna from the University of Ghana, won the Best TV Feature Story Award from the Ghana Journalists Association Awards in 2014.
Over 1,600 entries from 38 countries across the African continent were submitted to this year’s edition of the Award in English, French and Portuguese.

My name is Esi Buabeng from Nsuatre in the Brong-Ahafo Region in Ghana. I currently live in Woodbridge VA. About 3 years ago I experienced numbness and tingling in my feet and on the left side of my body. I could not walk and had to visit many hospitals in search of treatment. I was placed on series of medications for about 2 years. After an MRI in July 2014 the doctors told me the 4th and 5th bones in my vertebrae were twisted in a condition called Spinal Spinosus which in turn affected blood circulation in my body. After going through a series of therapy, I was discharged due to a lack of progress in my health – I could not get any better. I could not stand for more than 5 minutes at a time. The pain was severe. I had to lean over anything I could find close and use a walker. The Doctors recommended a drug called epidural to ease the pain but I still had to use a walker to facilitate my movement. One day a friend called Elizabeth told me about Pastor Joshua and how he was being used by God mightily. I decided to contact Pastor Joshua. The church was holding a weeklong revival which I attended. From the first day I stepped into the church I was touched and transformed by the way he administered the word of God. Pastor prayed for me afterwards and I was miraculously healed immediately after the prayer. I felt movements in my joints as I fell under the power of the Holy Spirit. Suddenly all the pain in my body and bones disappeared. I stopped using the walker since then. I was relieved of all my pain and burden. I want to testify that I am completely healed and I have resumed work full time. I am no longer taking any medication. I was scheduled for surgery the very weekend I was healed so I had to cancel the surgery. The situation was so bad that I was approved for disability. I am free today and I was called back to resume work full time with no health challenges. Afrikan Post examined the medical records to verify the authenticity of her claims and discovered that she was completely restored. Rev. Joshua corroborated the story and the condition in which she was brought to the church. Madam Esi Buabeng walks without any assistance and she is no longer taking any medication and has no pain whatsoever in any part of her body. To God be the glory!!

My name is Evelyn. I started high school in South Africa with very bright future prospects. There came to a time I realized I was performing below my academic capabilities. I however completed High school and entered the University to pursue a career in medicine. Towards the end of my first year at the University I became mentally disoriented. I started acting funny and irrational to the extent that I hit the streets of South Africa as a mad person until my parents were notified to pick me up. They sought medical and spiritual assistance for me everywhere. I went in and out of consciousness anytime I was prayed for. My father took me to see a specialist and I was diagnosed as having a bipolar disorder. My father explained to me the need for taking the medication I was placed on. My condition was such that I had racing thoughts, I could not communicate in one straight line coupled with emotional and unexplained energy which were all symptoms of the bipolar disorder I had been diagnosed with. I was depressed without a reason and constantly harbored suicidal thoughts. At one time my sister talked me out of it. There were instances I stopped taking the medication and it resulted in me being subjected to a controlled environment like a prisoner where I was secluded, controlled and forced to take the medication. I just could not come to terms with the fact that this was going to be a permanent situation. I always went through that situation anytime I refused to take the medication. Through the medication that was being administered the depression subsided and I began to trust God for a healing. I was assured by many pastors of my healing but I rather built bitterness and resentment when they made negative revelations about my family. As it went on I developed a fear of communicating with people. I totally withdrew and isolated myself from everyone around me. A series of relationships with men failed. Men took advantage of me and turned against me when I reveal my condition to them. I got pregnant but the man responsible for it left me. I went through a period of relapse for 3 months. For the past four years I was constantly taking the medication to stabilize my condition but did not see any improvement. My mother invited me to the United States. After she picked me up from the airport and was taking me home it started again I became so irrational and would not go to the house with her. I hit the streets again after jumping out of the car. I went to a Burger King restaurant to hang out there but I was kicked out when it was time to close and then I went to a 7Eleven store. After being in crisis for 14 hours, my mother called the police and who took me to the Hospital, where I was placed under observation.
When I was discharged my mother took me to see a man of God – Pastor Joshua. He took me through the word of God and after he prayed for me I felt a release physically and mentally. My thought process changed immediately and I could reason up as a normal person. I felt a release in my brain which appeared to be clogged.
“Today I can understand and read the word of God. I am in the choir and partake of all other activities as any one else. I have not taken the medication for about a month now but have had no issues whatsoever. It’s a miracle. I am completely healed and I give glory to God. My thanks to the man of God for his love and obedience to be used by God this way.”

Miss Cape Verde Crowned Miss Africa USA 2016
Young persons living with albinism in Kenya on Friday participated in the first Mister and Miss Albinism in the capital Nairobi to demystify their condition. The Kenyan Albinism Society organised the pageant to celebrate ten years of its existence and to show the beauty in persons living with albinism as well as to do away with stigma associated with the medical condition.
“There are beautiful albinos who feel good about themselves,” an organiser and also the first Kenyan MP with albinism, Isaac Mwaura, said.
“In Africa, people have black skin. When a woman gives birth to an albino, people say it’s a curse … Even the children of your age are afraid of you,” 24-year-old contestant Nancy Njeri Kariuki from central Kenya said after she catwalked wearing a brown wig in the presence of Kenya’s Vice President William Ruto.
The contestants catwalked in professional outfits, from fisherman to soldier through to a rugby player, to show that they too can be part of the country’s workforce as explained by the MP that persons with albinisim are struggling to find work.
Michael Ogochi, a 21-year-old contestant, said the pageant helped him trust himself.
“Growing up was hard for me (…) nobody wanted to be with me … You have to work on your selfesteem and have a thick skin,” he said. In several countries in southern and eastern Africa, such as Tanzania, Malawi, Burundi and Mozambique, persons with albinism are subjected to numerous attacks.
Some even seek their limbs and other parts of their bodies for rituals believed to bring wealth and luck. This type of attack is however rare in Kenya.
Albinism is a rare group of genetic disorders that cause the skin, hair, or eyes to have little or no color. It is also associated with a number of vision defects.
The first ever Mr and Miss Kenya went to Jairus Jzay and Loise Lihanda respectively.

The Pageant which took place at the historic Howard University in Washington DC is attracted hundreds of Africans and friends of Africa to witness the coronation of the next Queen and youth Ambassador of the diaspora. The 1st Runner up was Miss Guinea followed by Miss Ghana as 2nd Runner up .

I’m not quite sure why, but kids tend to be into small toys. Now, if you have a baby below the age of 1, this can be dangerous, because they may swallow the toy, and you don’t want that. But if you have a kid above the age of 3, you need to look into buying a toy that is small in size, the smaller the better. Shopkins are super popular. Shopkins (by Moose Toys) are toys that are very small, and they have different seasons. I believe right now we are in Season 6, so make sure you buy a recently released Shopkins. Another popular toy are the Num Noms (another toy made by MGAE). Num Noms are toys which come in yogurt looking packages. The y come in blind bags and kids love them because you can mix and match them, and they smell yummy. Mash’ems (by Tech4kids) are really neat because they require NO BATTERIES!! You can take these toys anywhere. These toys are neat because literally, you smash them in your hand. They are affordable and they contain a small amount of liquid inside, which makes them fun to throw, mash and squish. The Mash’Ems come in different characters, including Littlest Pet shop characters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters. Another favorite here at the Afrikan Post are Gift’Ems (by Jakks Pacific). Gift’ems are these miniature toys which represent different parts of the world. The toys look like mini gifts, but once you open them up, tada, a doll representing a country is awaiting you. So far, in terms of African countries, a Gift’Em exists for South Africa and Kenya. Hopefully they will make more Gift’Ems for more African countries. Once again, this is another toy which does NOT require batteries, and it is very light , so it’s very easy to carry in a suitcase.

One thing I have noticed since living here in America is that Americans have always given back to their community, to those who are in need. I want to give back to my community, I have lived here in America for 30 years plus, I retired from the U.S Postal Service in Virginia, I have been married for 30 years plus, I have 5 children, I want to give back I repeat!

The leadership of AGTM told this writer that the number of people that Bishop Adonteng Boateng visited their church and 'The Garden Tomb' with during the Holy Land Tour of October exceeds any African Christian gathering they have ever witnessed in the last two decades of their Church's history.

The ‘Upper Room’ on Mount Zion in Jerusalem was brought to a standstill for over an hour when Bishop Dr. Kofi Adonteng Boateng and his Divine Word International Ministries (DWIM) church gathered for a praise and worship session there on Friday, October 7, 2016.
The session began when the Bishop reached the destination which was a stop on his church's 2016 Holy Land Tour [http://www.theafricandream.net/bishop-adonteng-boateng-holy-land-tour/]. When the tour group arrived at the Upper Room the Bishop gathered his followers and together they burst into a loud praise and worship session.
Mount Zion crowd buildup Crowds of tourists, pilgrims, and curious onlookers that day could not help but stop in their tracks to wonder. Some joined the Bishop and his congregation as the gathering enlarged to approximately 165 people. More than 100 of the persons in the crowd were members of the DWIM.
Bishop Adonteng later on in an interview said he felt moved by the Holy Spirit to acknowledge the presence of Jesus Christ and the power of God at The Upper Room on the hill of Mount Zion.
“Jesus Christ and his disciples were right here over 2000 years ago. For me to walk on the land He walked, and see, touch, and feel things of the time of Jesus is an extreme blessing not only for me, but all those God enabled me to bring here on this Holy Land Tour” — Bishop Kofi Adonteng Boateng.
Why the Mount Zion
According to Biblical history, the importance of the 'Upper Room' to many Christians is that it was not just the site of the Last Supper of Christ alone, but also where the first Christian church gathering began. “So what better place to have church and worship the Messiah than here”, The Bishop said.
It was an amazing sight to see security and police gather as the crowd begun to get bigger. The authorities said to TheAfricanDream.net that they were there to ensure that all those gathered were given safety and protection.
“We are not here to impede the progress of this worship, we are actually amazed by the speed with which the crowd grew. We have not seen such a spontaneous religious gathering here in a while” said a member of the security force present that TheAfricanDream.net spoke to.
TheAfricanDream.net invited by DWIM to cover the 2016 Holy Land Tour was on hand to witness another thunderous worship session on Monday, October 10, 2016. This time, it was at the ‘Garden Tomb’ in Jerusalem where some Christians believe was the burial place of Jesus Christ till He resurrected on the third day of his crucifixion.

Communion was also blessed and personally passed around by the Bishop at 'The Garden Tomb' where he especially thanked his church’s congregation including those that couldn’t make the trip.
In a related development after the service at 'The Garden Tomb'; a man in a wheelchair whose family was pushing him at the gate of the tomb during the Bishop's service approached the Bishop and asked for a blessing.
The Bishop willingly prayed for the crippled man who received his healing immediately. The man started walking in praise of Jesus in the presence of his family and all in sight.
Bishop appreciates all and looks to future
He appreciated all the Pastors from DWIM that joined him in the persons of Lillian Osei Owusu of New York, Yvonne Willis of Connecticut, Stella Boakye of Ohio and Belinda Brown of Atlanta Georgia, all of the United States (US) respectively.
Other DWIM Pastors on the trip with the Bishop also from the US were Emmanuel Ansah, Esther Boateng, Derrick Otu-Acheampong, and Veronica Ampomah, all of Virginia.
DWIM is already excited about the possibility of a second Holy Land Tour of a much larger congregation come November 2017. Before he left 'The Garden Tomb' the Bishop thanked all who had in diverse ways helped ensure the Holy Land Tour was successful.
He specifically expressed gratitude to the Embassy of Israel in Washington DC, the President of Education Travel Services, Inc; Joseph Cavarra, and the management of Hotel Ararat for being gracious hosts by providing affordable accommodation.
Historically religious stops on the DWIM 2016 Holy Land Tour include the ancient ruins of the palace of King Herod the Great, Church Of The Nativity and Golgotha.
The rest were the Sea of Galilee where the Bishop preached a sermon on a boat akin to what Jesus Christ did, the Dead Sea, and the River Jordan where the Bishop performed a record mass baptism of over 100 people.

Are you in anyway related? Michelle : No we’re not related, but he is like a father to me. He always want to see me succeed.

Lukomon : So Why shoemaking? Michelle : My inspiration is from God, I never knew I would be a shoemaker. I graduated from the University six years ago, after which I looked for for job, but to know avail. At sometimes I got employed by a company in Lagos, but the boss was owing too much so I left.
On how it started, there is this other company I buy sandals in Lagos and resell. They sell nice shoes, so one day I thought to myself that I can tell this people to make sandals for me with my label, so I approached them and they said yes. That was how I got my first set of shoes. Then a friend introduced me to a guy that makes shoes. I watch him make shoes one day and I was amazed then I asked him to teach me and he did.
Lukmon : That’s a lovely beginning. Michelle : hmm. Thanks
Lukmon : So how do you drive sales and who are your target customers?
Michele : My target audience are Men of honours, people like the famous Nigerians comedian Alibaba…lol . I make direct sales, but I drive more sales on social media platforms likeinstagram, facebook and twitter. Micheleleather sales per week is over 50 pairs.
Lukmon : Wow! That’s a great number. You must be a workaholic. Do you have partners? Michelle : No, maybe someday. But I have people that are learning under me.

What Would A Hillary Clinton Win Mean For Africa?
Although people of African descent in the United States constitute the largest voting bloc among national minorities, issues related to them in both domestic and foreign policies are given almost no consideration.As early as 2009, when Hillary Clinton made her first visit as Secretary of State, (and spoke about “the joy and energy Africans have, evidenced not just by the boogieing, but by the hard work and perseverance,”) skeptics were side-eying her affection for Africa.The tour largely centered around The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), security issues and natural resources.With regards to Africa, one of Hillary’s successes during her role as Secretary of State, took place when she persuaded South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir to sign a peace deal with Sudan. In her eyes, it signaled a victorious achievement. In those of Alex de Waal though, it was a dodgy lie.The affair led him to conclude that “There’s also a lesson for Africa: if Africans do not write their own histories, others will do it on their behalf.Generations of African schoolchildren will grow up believing that America was responsible for South Sudanese independence and other such myths.”Hillary defended the 1998 cruise missile strike on the El Shifa pharmaceutical plant in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum that destroyed the largest producer of cheap medications for treating malaria and tuberculosis and provided over 60% of available medicine in Sudan. The continent was full of hope and excitement for the Obama presidency. Almosy 8 years down the line though, it has become evident that the African will have to stand up for himself.So, the current occupant of the Whitehouse will have to work harder to win the trust of Africans. Ethiopia Launches Africa’s First Electric Rail
Ethiopia will on Wednesday launch Africa’s first modern electrified railway line which will link the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa with the port of Djibouti.
The full length of the railway is 752.7 kilometers, with a designed speed of 120 km per hour.
With a total investment of $4 billion, it is was built by China Railway Group and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
“The railway is constructed on the basis of Chinese railway technology standards while taking into account the national conditions of Ethiopia and Djibouti,” saidZeng Deli, a project manager of the China Railway Group, to Xinhua.
It was designed and constructed in a most economical way, taking only six years for its final completion, which should be viewed as some kind of miracle even in China, Zeng said.
The modern standard-gauge Addis AbabaDjibouti railway runs parallel to a decrepit meter-gauge version built over 100 years ago by Europeans.
Over 90% of Ethiopia’s imports and exports, in particular energy and food, are made via the sea port of Djibouti.
The capacity of the current road system has long been overwhelmed.
When the new railway becomes operational, transport time from Djibouti to the Ethiopian capital will be reduced from 7 days to ten hours.
Besides faster transport, the Chinese firms have an even greater ambition. That is, the railway will serve as a catalyst for Ethiopia’s national economic development.
The Addis Ababa-Djibouti railway is only one of

many major projects currently under way in the framework of China-Africa cooperation. For the Chinese contractors, the construction of a railway with a designed speed of 120 km per hour is not difficult. But it takes nothing short of a great feat to complete it with no compromise on quality and timeliness when there are inadequate construction materials and technical staff in Ethiopia. With careful planning and patient coordination, the Chinese firms managed to make sure construction materials imported from abroad arrived on time. To ensure good quality and no delay in construction, they even took the pains to manufacture the materials themselves, despite their higher cost.
For the Chinese firms, a lack of local technical personnel with adequate railway technology knowledge is a more serious problem.
For example, it took 20,000 workers to complete a specific section of the railway, and it would be impossible to have the posts filled all by Chinese, said Fu Xun, another project manager with the China Railway Group.
To tackle the challenge, the Chinese firms made the training of local technical workers a daily routine of their operations in Ethiopia. For the past few years, more than 15,000 local workers went through various training programs, thus ensuring enough manpower for railway construction and a talent reserve for future management of railway operations.
To protect its precious wildlife resources along the railway, the Ethiopian government set a high environmental protection protocol. To meet these high ecological standards, the Chinese companies did their best not to alter the original landscape along the railway.

Miss Paulina Clark, 26, a student of Queens borough Community College, New York, and Greater Accra regional representative, on Saturday October 8th won the 2016 edition of Miss Ghana Tourism USA Pageant in Maryland, USA. At the auditorium of The Universities at Shady Grove in Maryland Ms. Clark, who competed with eight other ladies, endeared herself to the judges through an expansive knowledge of Ghanaian culture and tourism potential in the Greater Accra region of Ghana to win the Miss Ghana Tourism USA title. The first and second runners- ups were Adwoa Obeng Kyei, 22, Central Regional representative and student of Rutgers University, and Marilyn Naa Tagoe, a Howard University Student who represented Upper West Region of Ghana. For her prize, the winner received a round trip ticket to Ghana through South African Airways, a laptop computer, a cell phone and $1000 spending money. Ceremony lit the atmosphere with entertaining comic relief. The contestants were tested in the area of geography, culture and tourism potentials in various regions of Ghana, They also answered many questions posed by the judges. It was after this keenly contested event that the judges led by Ama K Abeberese, a celebrated Ghanaian movie producer and director, settled on Paulina as the ideal individual to lead Ghana's tourism push in the USA for a year. This year's Miss Congeniality, Britney Akosua Ayiwah Gambrah who represented the Ashanti Region was crowned by Jan DuPlain of Duplain Enterprises Inc. Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Gen (Rtd.) Henry Smith who graced the occasion with his wife Mrs. Doha Smith, received a unifier award from the pageant organizers - Ghana Tourist Coach (GTC) USA, for his immense contribution towards bringing Ghanaians in the USA together.
