A Kenyan mother has named her newborn twins after US President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Millicent Owuor, 20, gave birth to the twins in south-west Kenya on the day Mr Obama was re-elected.

A short distance from the hospital, at the Obama family's ancestral village, people were celebrating his victory.

"I named the first twin Barack and the second one Mitt," Ms Owuor is quoted by Reuters news agency as saying.

Ms Owuor posed for photographers on Wednesday at the Siaya District Hospital with her twin boys.

Questions about President Obama’s immigration order for undocumented children ? Call Attorney Nana Nketiah Mensah Tel : 206 850 1137 or Email :mensaah@comcast.net

The DREAM Act (acronym for Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) is an American legislative proposal first introduced in the Senate on August 1, 2001, by Dick Durbin and Orrin Hatch. This bill would provide conditional permanent residency to certain undocumented residents of good moral character who graduate from U.S. high schools, arrived in the United States as minors, and lived in the country continuously for at least five years prior to the bill's enactment. If they were to complete two years in the military or two years at a four-year institution of higher learning, they would obtain

temporary residency for a six-year period. Within the six-year period, they may qualify for permanent residency if they have "acquired a degree from an institution of higher education in the United States or have] completed at least 2 years, in good standing, in a program for a bachelor's degree or higher degree in the United States" or have "served in the armed services for at least 2 years and, if discharged, [have] received an honorable discharge". Military enlistment contracts require an eight-year commitment, with active duty commitments typically between four and

six years, but as low as two years. However, the military does not allow illegal immigrants to enlist, and those that have done so under a false identity, or used fraudulent documents. "Any alien whose permanent resident status is terminated... shall return to the immigration status the alien had immediately prior to receiving conditional permanent resident status under this Act. Thabo Mbeki Named African of the Year displayed "outstanding leadership" of the African Union's High-Level Implementation Panel on Sudan (AUHIP).

The award, sponsored by the Daily Trust newspaper of Abuja, Nigeria, was announced at the fifth annual meeting of the African Media Leaders Forum in Dakar on Thursday. Salim said the advisory board which chose Mbeki normally gave it to "an ordinary African doing extraordinary things". But Mbeki's role had been "extraordinary". The AU panel had succeeded "in bringing Sudan and South Sudan back from the brink of war and consolidating a new start in relations."

Dakar — Former South African president Thabo Mbeki has been named "African of the Year" for his "persistent and consistent" efforts to avert war between Sudan and South Sudan. Naming Mbeki as winner of the award, former Tanzanian prime minister and Organisation of African Unity head Salim A. Salim said the former president had

Citing the nine agreements between the two countries which were signed in September, Salim said the advisory board was "particularly impressed with the fact that these accords were of a comprehensive nature, not only focussing on the cessation of hostilities but also on restarting southern oil exports through the North, reviving cross-border trade, and overall forging a new start in relations."

They're young (nationally, half are 19 and younger) and urbanized. School enrollment rate in Gabon is over 70 percent and literacy is close to 90 percent. In Libreville, it’s over 63 percent, which translates into a most capable service staff in restaurants, hotels, and shops. The French influence extends beyond being the official language, providing for a very stylish city that boasts a grand boulevard with beautiful architecture and monuments. This city on the beach makes the transition from work to play very easy. Libreville's newly built Stade d'Angondjé stadium recently host the final match of the 2012 African Cup of Nations. Preparation for the sporting event saw increased government investment in improving roads and other public spaces. More property development projects are also popping up across the city to keep up with rapid urbanization. Oil has been the main driver of economic growth here, but with reserves declining, there's increased efforts to investment in other mining production projects. Away from the mines, you’re spoilt with vast natural landscapes. The country's government made a commitment a decade ago to set aside more than 10 percent of total land for national parks and nature reserves. Close to Libreville, there’s the Akanda National Park, one the more than a dozen across the country thats helped it become a popular eco-tourist destination. 7. TUNIS, TUNISIA A lot has changed here since the Arab Spring unrest started nearly two years ago. While unemployment remains a concern and the new government still works toward stabilizing the economy, the smallest country in North Africa is becoming one of the fastest developing. The first half of this year, saw a GDP growth rate of 3.5 percent, with a steady increase in the manufacturing sector. French territory for over seven decades, there’s a rich diversity in the culture here—African, Arab and European. Along modern infrastructure, the old world remains through the Medina of Tunis, one of the first Arabo-Muslim towns, and now also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. People live long—there's a life expectancy of 74.6 years. It might have something to do with the picturesque setting of the Mediterranean Sea as a backdrop. People here are happy too, says the Happy Planet Index (HPI). Measuring sustainable well-being, Tunisia was named the second happiest place in Africa (after Algeria). Once on the wealthiest cities in the Muslim world, Tunisia’s capital is now also considered to be the least expensive city (for expats) in the region. Getting around is fairly easy with the extensive rail network that links the capital to other parts of the country.

8. DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA Dar es Salaam is a rapidly growing city, from the new infrastructural projects to its people, literally. With an annual population increase of over three percent each year, it’s the third fastest growing city in Africa—and one of the fastest in the world! It also has a large expatriate community. Though no longer the country’s capital, Dar es Salaam is the largest city in Tanzania and

November 2012

remains the political and economic hub. There has been great investment in education here, with an extensive programme to provide free primary schooling, efforts that were lauded by international bodies when enrolment rates reached over 90 percent. The city is also home to the largest and oldest public university in Tanzania, the University of Dar es Salaam, which recently celebrated its 50year anniversary and has seen a sharp increase in the number of registered students. There’s also the Institute of Technology (DIT), one of the leading institutions providing technical training in the region. There’s also plans to revamp the neglected railway transport network. Millions has also been spent over the past five years to improve the cities roads, making travelling a lot more efficient.

Situated close to the equator, the city enjoys tropical conditions for most of the year. Though Dar es Salaam has its own magnificent beaches (including many exclusive resorts), the island of Zanzibar is also just a short ferry ride away. 9. WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA From the language to the distinct architecture, the German influence on Windhoek is evident—a lasting reminder of Namibia's early colonial history. Don’t expect big city living; the most recent count puts total population just over 320,000. The small but active city is home to just about every national government institution, making it the country’s political, cultural, social, and economic capital.

If Namibia is best known for the Namib Desert, the oldest in the world, then Windhoek is best known for its beer. Windhoek Lager is one of the fastest-growing premium beers in the region and is sold abroad in over 20 countries. The old brewery still stands tall in the city’s central business district and now hosts many cool restaurant, bars and shots. When visiting there and other parts of the city, expect to meet a diverse range of people with a multitude of background, from the indigenous San, Hereo, and Kavango groups to expat Europeans. The city is attractive for many reasons: it’s clean, relatively safe and getting around the city is easy. Both taxis and buses provide efficient transport and it helps that the roads are well-maintained. 10. KIGALI, RWANDA From the expansion of its Central Business District to the recent road construction project to help ease traffic congestion, Rwanda’s capital is slowly becoming one of the most rapidly developing cities on the continent. Centrally located in the heart of Rwanda, Kigali is home to close to one million people, and there’s also a large community of expats here who get to enjoy the diversity the city has to offer. As with most African countries, there’s two scenes on offer. While the majority of the population still live in rural areas, new modern structures continue to be built in the Central Business District. One of the latest developments is the Kigali Tower, a 20floor office and retail complex that is the city’s tallest building. Living in Rwanda’s capital is not cheap, as the cost of imported goods are high. The biggest asset here remains the diverse wildlife, most popularly the rare mountain gorillas. Tourism remains an important source of revenue as the country’s largest foreign exchange earner: in the first quarter of this year alone, there was a more than 20 percent in visitors compared to last year. The increase is likely to see further investment in the hotel, service, and tourism industries.

Thanksgiving: Recipes and Traditions

The American celebration of Thanksgiving stretches back almost 400 years to the year 1621, when English settlers at Plymouth Rock gave thanks for their first harvest. The Pilgrims held a feast together with members of the local Wampanoag tribe who had helped them avoid starvation the previous winter.

Ethiopia: Addis Ababa Named Among 10 Best Cities to Visit in 2013

Lonely Planet, the global travel and guidebook company, has named Addis Ababa as one of the top ten cities in the world to visit in 2013.

The capital is placed 9th in its Best in Travel 2013 edition and is the only African city to appear in the top ten. The Ethiopian metropolis and diplomatic hub, renowned for its rapid development, is highlighted as best for culture, food and value for money.

Lonely Planet said that "destinations make the list for a variety of reasons, including special events, recent developments or buzz, or that the destination is up-and-coming and worth visiting before the crowds get too big". The annual list is compiled on the basis of the views of the company's staff, writers and online community. Addis Ababa, this year, is celebrating the 125th anniversary of its foundation. some time now, star actor, Kenneth Okonkwo, who played the movie role of ‘Andy’ in the popular movie ‘Living in Bondage’ has not been seen in most movies as he used to in the past.

What Nigeriafilms.com can confirm to you is that the prolific actor has added the gospel of soul winning for God to his already acquired two professions; acting and law profession. The actor surprised many when he was seen at a lawyers’ forum few years ago.

Now, Kenneth has shown that aside from acting and law practice, he is a good Evangelist; a fisher of men for God. Kenneth Okonkwo recently headlined a 3-day crusade held in Ikorodu, Lagos as a guest minister of God of the event.

The '3-Day Explosive Fire and Total Deliverance' crusade was tagged ‘Night of Dominion’ and was held between September 26-28. 2012. The service took place at Evangelist Peter Nwabueze’s Christ Mission Worldwide Church, Owode Onirin, Ikorodu Lagos.

Liz Benson, Pat Attah, Eucharia Anunobi are the few actors who have become 'fishers of men', will Kenneth dump acting to face the God's minister full time? Or will he keep doing the three professions?

The veteran actor who was stricken by stroke late last year, is currently in India receiving treatment. He was flown to India a few weeks back by the Delta State Government through its Commissioner of Culture, Richard Mofe Damijo. Popular Nollywood Actor's Leg Amputated? Multiple reports are claiming that veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Eneh reportedly lost one of his legs through amputation due to infection in the leg.

A source in the industry is telling Nigeriafilms.com that the actor, who has been in an Enugu hospital, has been down since last year when he had the injury in his leg.

His case deteriorated when he couldn't get proper medical attention to take care of the injured leg. For the infection not to spread to other parts of his body, the doctors made the decision to amputate his leg to save his life.

Pete Eneh adored many Nollywood film jackets some years ago. As at press time, we couldn't get in touch with him.

Obama Second Term: What It Means For Africa

Some people on this continent expected more from the son of man who grew up herding goats in a village in western Kenya.

President Barack Obama made only one, cursory trip to sub-Saharan Africa during his first term, and at the time made it fairly clear that he would not be smothering the continent with attention.

"Africa's future is up to Africans," he said in Ghana, in a speech that quietly acknowledged the limitations of American influence in a region that now trades more with China than the US.

So how much will change in Mr Obama's second term? “Start Quote

If Kenya pulls off a free and fair vote, expect a fairly prompt visit to Nairobi by Air Force One”

That question was, perhaps understandably, barely mentioned in an election campaign that focused on pressing domestic issues and the Arab uprisings.

In his victory speech, Mr Obama again made only passing reference to "a decade of war" and to "people in distant nations… risking their lives right now just for a chance to argue about the issues that matter, the chance to cast their ballots like we did today".

Behind the scenes US diplomacy will no doubt continue to be furiously in demand. No 'Obama doctrine'

In the first term, the focus was on headline-hogging conflicts in Ivory Coast, Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan and even a close-run election in Zambia.

The start of the second term is likely to be preoccupied with more of the same: International efforts to remove al-Qaeda-linked rebels from the north of Mali - by force or negotiation or both - and efforts to ensure that Zimbabwe and Kenya avoid repeating the violence that wrecked their last elections.

If Kenya pulls off a free and fair vote, expect a fairly prompt visit to Nairobi by Air Force One.

So far, there is no sign of a grand "Obama doctrine" for Africa - and perhaps that is a good thing given the diversity and complexity of the continent.

Mr Obama has left it to others to warn about the dangers posed by an insatiable China.

But his second term may give him an opportunity to move away from the distorting, "war on terror" preoccupations of Mali and Somalia, and focus on the broader issues - trade in particular - that he raised three years ago in Ghana.

Africa Gathers In Lagos For Maker Faire

TUK-TUK LIMO

Ibrahim Adekunle and Shola Omoniyi have been attracting a crowd with their new take on a stretch limo.

The Tricycle Limo can hold up to 12 people, plus driver while a smaller Tricycle Jeep can hold five people, plus driver. Both vehicles cost between 100,000-200,000 naira ($600-$1,200; £375-£750) to rent for the day, and are often on call for weddings, carnivals and other events.

The Tricycle Limo cost about 1.5m naira ($9,500; £5,900) to make, and about two weeks to put together. As it is long about 5m (16ft) - the chassis is strengthened using a long piece of pipe.

Wecyclers.com is the brainchild of Billikiss Abiola, from Nigeria and Jonathan Kola, from Kenya who together came up with the simple plan to get people in Lagos to recycle aluminium and plastic.

The bicycles are welded to a trailer, making a tricycle that can carry large bags of sorted waste. Each bike costs approximately $500 (£300) to build, though those prices will come down as they start making more.

Lean!

Learning to lean, I am learning to lean, Learning to lean on Jesus; Finding more power than I ever dreamed, I am learning to lean on Jesus.

lthough the new mother hesitated about picking up her toddlers at the same time, one on each arm, she thought that it was the best she could do at the moment. After all, they were both crying for her and picking one up and then returning for the other might leave him in danger of falling down the steep stairs. But she could also fall if she is unable to handle both of them as she descended. And just as she feared, she lost the grip of one of her children and the child, as if in slow motion, began to tumble down. She was caught in a helpless state, for she couldn’t rush down to save the child, without endangering the one she still carried. All she could do was scream “Jesus!” even as her heart rate shot up and the falling child’s begging and dependent eyes looked up to her mother to save her. At that moment, the powerless mother had to watch her child fall down the stairs and pray that she would not be injured. She had thought she would be always there to protect them fiercely as a mother naturally would. But there she was, watching her child fall, not knowing the end and she couldn’t do anything about it. The above incident was one of the most traumatic moments for me as a mother. Although I am sure my daughter does not remember this as it happened before she was a year old, I cannot shake that memory and moment out of my mind. I still remember my daughter’s eyes, even as she was falling, looking up to me for help, to save her, and I just stood there helpless, unable to do anything for her. It is haunting and painful and it reminds me that as much as I would need and want to be in control of protecting my children, my abilities are nevertheless limited and that there might be

times when I will have to stand aside powerless and perhaps see things tumble or crash down. Miraculously, my daughter was not harmed and in the end, although she was visibly shaken, she surprisingly didn’t cry. I was thankful, so thankful that the Lord had heard my cry, but I had been changed in that moment. There is a song that my church sometimes sings in worship. Each time I sing it, whether in the public space of the church or the private moments of my own quiet time with God, the impact is still the same, heartbreaking yet assuring. The song speaks of our inability and limitations as beings of flesh and blood, but simultaneously reminds us of our advocate, a supernatural power above and beyond those very limitations. The song goes like this: “I have no power of my own. I have no power of my own. I depend on you Holy Spirit; I have no power of my own.” One thing that I have come to learn repeatedly is the lack of power that we as human beings have over many situations. Don’t get me wrong. We are strong. We are powerful. We have agency and we make, shake and move things. We can fight; we can struggle and we can impact change in so many areas of our lives, physically and otherwise. But then we can come to some simple or even difficult areas of life, where we are simply rendered helpless, unable to alter or move the simplest things, much less difficult ones, and we have to wait on and cry to God, knowing that we need Him to save us or change our circumstances for us. We can complete hundreds of resumes, be called in for all the interviews and yet go back empty-handed, despondent, discouraged, helpless. This can go on for months and even years and you wonder: what will it take to secure a job? What can you do to push your resume to the top of the pile and what can you do to cause the manager to make that phone call to offer you the position? And the answer is nothing. You have no power. You have done your part; you have applied; you have even interviewed and now you are forced to sit and wait, and wait and wait. I have seen this with numerous people, and the process can be discouraging. Sometimes, the problem could be a sickness with which you have struggled. On its initial onset, though you were devastated and in shock of your diagnosis, you decided to fight. You did all that you were advised to do and even more. You put your body through all kinds of procedures and regimen which left you tired, spent, physically transformed and in debt. You prayed, fasted and sought for prayers from pastors and spiritual advisors and just when you thought that you were winning or had overcome, you came to learn that the sickness had returned with a vengeance. What do you do when you have fought and fought, prayed and prayed? What do you do when all your efforts and hard work have been rendered useless, ineffective? What do

you do when you are made painfully aware that you have no power to change your debilitating circumstance? Your helplessness is palpable. Beside the instance discussed above, you may face countless others. Perhaps you have spent all your words and voice in advising and admonishing your child, yet he or she is bent on a wayward life you know will only end at minimum adversely or at most, tragically. But nothing you do or say makes any difference. You are powerless. Or perhaps, your struggle is financial, because the country’s economic instability has thrown your financial life into turmoil. The job you thought you securely held has been taken from you. You are forced to get a less paying one just to support yourself and your family. In the mean time, you dip into all your savings to keep yourself afloat. You now have no reserves, the money coming in from the work you do is simply not enough. You are behind in your bills and face the threat of eviction and/or bankruptcy. Your children are depending on you while you know that you might be thrown out on the streets in a matter of days. You have done all you can, what else? The title of this article is Lean! The word Lean means “to incline the weight of the body so as to be supported.” It means “to rely for assistance or support.” I use the concept of leaning here because the truth is that sometimes, it is simply too difficult to stand. We like to believe that we can stand strong in the midst of trials and we can often muster up some strength to stand in defiance of the troubles mounting against us. But then, there are times that the strength to stand is not fully there, not because our foundation, Christ, is unstable, but simply because our legs are wobbly. We are unstable, for our strength is nearly depleted. So we must kneel down or prostrate ourselves or simply sit down and lean against the wall. The wall will not shift and while we are resting against it, we cannot slip and fall. We are resting on it for support, for nothing else is there. By leaning against the wall, we are putting our weight, the burden of our problems on that wall, so that we can be held up. That wall represents our Rock of Ages; it is the Rock of Gibraltar that cannot fail. The story of Jacob is a very telling one and when you read the full account of his life, you are left with an affirming belief that God was with him and that despite how he may have cheated his older brother and was subsequently painfully cheated by his own uncle, suffered the death of his beloved Rachel, the excruciating “loss” of his favorite son Joseph and even more, you learn that Jacob often had to lean when he could not stand. After 21 years of running away from his brother Esau who wanted to kill him, Jacob was ready to make amends. Yet he was terribly afraid for his life. So while Jacob had elaborately prepared himself, his family and his servants to appease Esau, he was still terrified. The night before Jacob would meet Esau, the Bible states, “then Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. When

he (the man) saw that he had not prevailed against him, he touched the socket of his thigh; so the socket of Jacob’s thigh was dislocated while he wrestled with him. Then he (the man) said, ‘let me go, for the dawn is breaking’. But he said, I will not let you go unless you bless me. So he said to him, ‘what is your name?’ and he said, ‘Jacob.’ He said, your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed’” Genesis 32: 24-28. Because Jacob continued to struggle throughout the night even in his debilitated state, at daybreak, he prevailed, was blessed and was renamed. Like Jacob, this might be your darkest hour, but know that daybreak is coming. Like Jacob, you might be unable to stand, because the socket in your leg has been dislocated, and although the pain is agonizing, continue to wrestle. Continue to lean against the Rock, even as you can no longer stand. Continue to cry out His name “Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!” believing that he will surely hear you and answer your prayer. Like Jacob, realize the fight is about life and death. If you have given your all, lean! If you are unable to stand, lean! Even if doubts are bombarding your mind and heart, lean, because as you lean against the Rock, you are still engaged in the fight. Even if the tears stream down your face in view of your supposed helpless state, lean, for refusing to allow the currents of the flood to overwhelm and carry you away, is staying in the fight. Lean on Christ, your one and only salvation, the only hope of mankind. Lean, for your daybreak is near. Lean, for the changing of your name is at hand. Coincidently, as I am ending this article, I am reminded of a song in the Akan language. The song interestingly reflects what I have written here. The song tells of the fight that one might be waging and encourages the fighter to continue to do battle and not give up, assuring him that daybreak is near. More specifically, the chorus of the song repeatedly advises the fighter to lean on God even in their darkest hour. I had no idea that even as the Lord dropped the hymnal I began with in my heart, that He would lead me to recall the Akan song. I share this bit of information because it confirms to me that this message is from God to his children. He knows what you are going through and how you are struggling. He wants you to continue to lean on Him, for He is surely in control.

Leonid Stadnyk’s excessive growth began after brain surgery when he was 14 years old. He developed a pituitary gland tumor which caused the gland to secrete large amounts of growth hormone, resulting in what doctors describe as acromegalic gigantism. Twenty years after the surgery, the doctors have discovered the tumour had mysteriously disappeared and he is currently healthy. On August 20, 2008, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, Craig Glenday, announced that the title of world’s tallest man returned to China’s Bao Xishun after Ukrainian Leonid Stadnyk refused to be measured under new guidelines, which required him to be independently measured by Guinness World Records adjudicators

U.S. Tennis Stars in Nigeria to Promote Women's Rights

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola Wednesday, October 31 received the visiting American tennis superstars, Serena and Venus Williams at Lagos House, Marina expressing the hope that their visit would be a monumental turning point in inspiring young people to pursue their dreams just like they have done.

The Governor who spoke while receiving the Williams sisters said they have been a source of inspiration to many people for different things that they represent not just in terms of sports but also charity work they engage in and the image they cut.

He said there is a lot of work to be done in Nigeria with young people such as getting them back on track and providing opportunities to them.

Fashola recalled that Nigeria once had a player named Nduka Odizor who was in the last 16 of Wimbledon, saying the tennis club where the sisters had a coaching clinic for kids Wednesday was 117 years old which is a lot of history about what has happened in the world of the game in the State.

A List Of Nollywood Stars Who Failed In Their Music Attempts N o v e m b e r 2012

They are part of the movers and shakers of the motion picture industry, and their immense contribution to what is today celebrated as Nollywood cannot be underestimated. When they decided to spread their tentacles to the music industry, one would naturally hope that their ready-made fame in moviedom will pave the way, but surprisingly, their achievements as actors could not make the difference for them in the music industry.

10) OMOTOLA JALADE-EKEINDE: She is one of the best and celebrated Nollywood diva. being a success. The actor also did another entitled Born To Do This and featured Mike Word and Puffy T on it, but it did not make any good impact either.

6) NKEM OWOH (Osuofia): Popularly referred to as Osuofia, Nkem Owoh is a highly successful actor. At a time, he was the highest paid Nollywood actor, raking millions from every script that comes his way, but when he decided to grab the microphone and consequently released the song, I Go Chop Your Dollar, it was not on a bed of roses. The audio and video of the song were banned on air due to its lyrical content. Osuofia went ahead to record another song, Olamma, but it was also short of being a success. 5) COSSY ORJIAKOR: Though this naturally endowed actress has a sonorous voice, it was obviously not enough to give her a hit in the music industry. She has recorded a couple of songs and also shot videos, but they were not enough to guaranty her musical success. One of her songs is entitled Me and You.

4) JOHN OKAFOR (Mr Ibu): Otherwise known as Mr. Ibu, John is a highly skilled and successful actor who has carved a niche for himself. Regarded as one of the most hilarious actors in Nigeria, Mr. Ibu has severally claimed that he has a good singing voice. He actually released an audio/video album some years back, but it cannot be regarded as a success. He had since stick to his original talent-acting.

3) SHAN GEORGE: She is an actress of note, but like her colleagues, Shan’s attempts at making hits through music have so far been futile. She has an album and has performed in a couple of gigs, including the annual Felabration. For obvious reasons, she is one of the movie stars who could not make impact as singers.

2) LILIAN BACH: The half-caste actress, had also tried her hands in music, but she was quick enough to withdraw, perhaps after realising that it was a tough terrain for her. (Nollywood wannabe singers learn from her)

1) TONTO DIKEH: And our number 1 of course is no other person than the “Rave of the Moment”: Tonto Dikeh. The recent release of her two new singles have been met with so much hate and rejection. Recently, a Nollywood producer refered to her attempt at singing as a TERRIBLE TREMELO

Ever since she released her singles “Hi”and “Itz Over” Fans home and abroad have made it clear that they don’t seem to accept her detour into Music. They practically pulled out all stops just to show their Displeasure. Source : everwherenigeria.com

The Man Who Sued His Wife For Birthing An Ugly Baby

Afrikan

Post

Apparently in China, bad genes are grounds for divorce — and six-figure fines

"Failed relationships can get ugly," says Ji Lin at the Irish Examiner, but the weird, sad tale of Jian Feng and his wife "really gives meaning to the old cliché."

The story starts out conventionally enough: Feng, a resident of northern China, met and married a beautiful woman, and they had a baby girl. That's when things reportedly got, um, ugly. Feng was "so sure of his own good looks, so crushed by the wrinkly ugly mess that was handed to him in a swaddle, that he decided to sue his wife because the awful looking baby was totally her fault," says Madeline Holler at Babble. And then things went from ugly to crazy: He won. Here's what you should know:

On what grounds did he sue?

Dead Man Turns Up At His Own Funeral

A 41-year-old car washer shocked his family when he interrupted a funeral being held for him at his mother's home in the town of Alagoinhas in northeastern Brazil, police said.

Police inspector Roberto Lima said by telephone that Jose Marcos Araujo identified a body at the city morgue as being that of his brother, Gilberto.

Lima said that Jose Marcos took the body to his mother's home where a wake was held.

"The confusion started when news started circulating that a car washer had been shot dead," Jose Marcos' wife, Ana Paula, told the UOL Internet news portal.

"Police called my husband and told him that his brother had been killed and his body was at the morgue".

Lima said the confusion was "understandable."

"The two men closely resembled each other and both worked as car washers," Lima said

Seven Scientists Jailed For Failing To Spot Earthquake November 2012

Seven scientists have been jailed for six years after they failed to predict a killer earthquake.

The seven scientists were convicted of manslaughter — for giving the all-clear over a quake that left more than 300 dead.

An Italian court heard how they failed to act when two small tremors preceded a massive one that left thousands homeless in the city of L’Aquila.

When Araujo showed up at his wake "some people fainted and others were so scared they ran away. It was a big shock," family friend Maria Menezes told the G1 online news site.

Gilberto's mother Marina Santana told reporters "I am overjoyed. What mother wouldn't be after being told that her son is dead and then sees him alive."

Victory Bible Church in Virginia Ordains New Leaders Religion

The Birth Of Jesus I CAME TO FULFILL THE LAW He placed emphasis on Sacrifices and demanded that God desires true Worshippers to Worship Him in Spirit and in Truth John 4:23-24. He however approved the use of the Tabernacle of David as is indicated in the triumphant entry episode Matthew 21:1-16.

November 2012 Page 26

Some of the reasons that explains Jesus’ attitude toward the two Tabernacles are:

Pastor George Annan

In the year 4BC Jesus Christ was born into a Nation which had two sets of well established religious laws. The laws of Worship within the Tabernacle of Moses and the laws of Praises within the Tabernacle of David. For the period of over 4000 years these laws produced the principles on which the civil, moral and ceremonial life of the Nation of Israel was built. At the beginning of His ministry Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. His fame went throughout all Syria so much they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers’ diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. He attracted great number of people from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judaea, and beyond Jordan. These multitude I believe just as it is with humans were beginning to assume Jesus was on a mission to establish a religious cult with deferent set of rules and laws thus abolishing the existing religious laws. Jesus immediately withdrew Himself unto a mountain where he sat with His disciples and after preaching to them what is popularly referred to as the sermon the mount He made it emphatically clear that He did not come to undo or destroy the existing religious laws but to FULFILL THEM. In fulfilling the Law Jesus was implying that His attitude towards the Laws of Worship – The Tabernacle of Moses and the Laws of Praise – The Tabernacle of David will indicate if He disapprove or approve their wholesale transition into the New Testament. Jesus confronted, disapproved and reinterpreted The Worship Laws in the Tabernacle of Moses and claimed to be the fulfillment of those Laws.

• The Laws in the Tabernacle of Moses are Pillars (essentials) of Worship. No one can worship God until you apply then to your life. • We can worship God effectively with or without the use of the Tabernacle of David • The Tabernacle of David is just forms of expression of one’s worship. • The book of Psalms is not part of the old covenant but transcends both Old and New Testaments • The Tabernacle of Moses teaches the church to understand the concept of sacrifice whilst the Tabernacle of David deals with the outward expression which could be hypocritical • The Tabernacle of Moses relates to the heart whiles the Tabernacle of David is a cultural expression of what might have transpired in the heart(remember God looks at the heart whiles man looks at the outside).

He did not come to undo or destroy the existing religious laws but to FULFILL THEM. www.redemptionnews.org

The Virginia branch of the Victory Bible Church International climaxed a three day power packed 6th anniversary with the ordination of new Pastors, elders, deacons and deaconesses in their Lorton Living Word Assembly Auditorium.

Preaching the sermon on Sunday October 14th, Bishop Nii A. Tackie-Yarboi admonished the members to seek the anointing of God since it is effective for service and that it becomes the contact point through which great things are manifested in the minister's life. He admonished the new leaders to be selfless in their devotion to God and offer themselves as living sacrifices for the course for which they have been called.

The U.S.A Sector Overseer of the Church, Rev. Elijah Obiba Saforo commended the new leaders for the hard work toward sustaining the ministry over the period of 6 years. He said” I am very grateful to God, to all our dedicated and committed ministers and partners whose efforts and support together have brought the Victory Bible Church International's vision this far”

About 12 people who have served the ministry in various capacities were ordained as Pastors, Deacons and Deaconessses Rev. Daniel Somuah one of the newly ordained Pastors expressed his appreciation to the entire congregation and the General Overseer for the honor and pledged that he would not relent in his efforts to sacrifice for the ministry.

Victory Bible Church International also known as VBCI is a full gospel charismatic church founded by Presiding Bishop Nii Apiakai Tackie-Yarboi.

Victory Bible Church International, congregated for the first time in Accra, Ghana (West Africa) on the 2nd of June, 1985 . VBCI was then known as Jesus People Outreach Church. The name Victory Bible Church International came from I John 5:4. Whilst an active member of Christian Evangelical Church, the presiding Bishop, Right Rev. Nii Apiakai TackieYarboi received a commission. He was prayed for and sent away. He then started the church as Victory Christian Center at Kokomlemle, which later became Victory Bible Church International with its headquarters now in Awoshie, Accra Ghana.

The Five Richest Pastors In Nigeria By Mfonobong Nsehe/forbes.com - Nigeriafilms.com

God is good, especially if you're a Nigerian pastor with some business savvy. These days, millions of souls, desperate for financial breakthroughs, miracles and healing, all rush to the church for redemption. And while the bible expressly states that salvation is free, at times it comes with a cost: offerings, tithes, gifts to spiritual leaders, and a directive to buy literature and other products created by men of God.

Pastors are no longer solely interested in getting people to Heaven; they've devised intelligent ways to make good money while reaching out to souls.

Take Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, for example. He is the founder and lead pastor of the Christ Embassy, a thriving congregation with branches in Nigeria, South Africa, London, Canada and the United States. His publishing company, Loveworld Publications, publishes 'Rhapsody of Realities,' a monthly devotional he co-authors with his wife. It sells over 2 million copies every month at $1 apiece. He also owns television stations, newspapers, magazines, a hotel, a fast-food chain, and more.

Many other Nigerian pastors are similarly building multimillion dollar empires from their churches. Today, pastors fly around in private jets, drive fancy cars like Daimlers, Porsches and BMWs, don Rolexes and Patek Phillipes, and own breathtaking mansions all over the world.

After the blog post I wrote in May about Nigerian pastors owning private jets, I was bombarded with emails from readers requesting to know the richest pastors in Nigeria. So I set out to investigate the assets of some of Nigeria's most prominent pastors, and I came up with conservative estimates of their fortunes. I contacted representatives for all of the pastors and all except Matthew Ashimolowo's representative confirmed ownership of the assets I list. Representatives for Pastor Ashimolowo did not respond to my emails.

1. Bishop David Oyedepo

Affiliation: Living Faith World Outreach Ministry, aka Winners Chapel

Estimated net worth: $150 million

David Oyedepo is Nigeria's wealthiest preacher. Ever since he founded the Living Faith World Outreach Ministry in 1981, it has grown to become one of Africa's largest congregations. The Faith Tabernacle, where he hosts three services every Sunday, is Africa's largest worship center, with a seating capacity of 50,000. Oyedepo owns four private jets and homes in London and the United States. He also owns Dominion Publishing House, a thriving publishing company that publishes all his books (which are often centered on prosperity). He founded and owns Covenant University, one of Nigeria's leading tertiary institutions, and Faith Academy, an elite high school.

2. Chris Oyakhilome

Church: Believers' Loveworld Ministries, a.k.a Christ Embassy Estimated net worth: $30 million – $50 million

Last year, the charismatic preacher was at the center of a $35 million money laundering case in which he was accused of siphoning funds from his church to foreign

banks. Pastor Chris pleaded no wrongdoing and the case was eventually dismissed. His church, Christ Embassy, boasts more than 40,000 members, several of whom are successful business executives and politicians. Oyakhilome's diversified interests include newspapers, magazines, a local television station, a record label, satellite TV, hotels and extensive real estate. His Loveworld TV Network is the first Christian network to broadcast from Africa to the rest of the world on a 24 hour basis.

Egypt Appoints New Coptic Pope

Bishop Tawadros has been elected as Egypt's new Coptic Christian pope, replacing the late Shenouda III.

3. Temitope Joshua

Church: Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) Estimated net worth: $10 million – $15 million

Nigeria's most controversial clergyman is also one of its richest and most philanthropic. T.B Joshua heads the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN), a congregation he founded in 1987, which accommodates over 15,000 worshippers on Sundays. The Pastor has remained controversial for several years for his inexplicable powers to heal all sorts of incurable diseases, including HIV/AIDS, cancer and paralysis. For miracle-craving worshippers, it's the perfect seduction. The church currently has branches in Ghana, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Greece. In the past three years, he has given over $20 million to causes in education, healthcare and rehabilitation programs for former Niger Delta militants. He owns Emmanuel TV, a Christian television network, and is close friends with Ghanaian President Atta Mills.

4. Matthew Ashimolowo

Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC)

Estimated net worth: $6 million – $10 million

In 1992, Foursquare Gospel Church, a Nigerian church, sent Ashimolowo to open a satellite branch in London. But Pastor Matthew had other ideas and decided to set up his own church instead. Today, his Kingsway International Christian Center is reportedly the largest Pentecostal church in the United Kingdom. In 2009, the church posted profits of close to $10 million and assets worth $40 million. Ashimolowo earns an annual salary of $200,000, but his real wealth comes from varied business interests including his media company, Matthew Ashimolowo media, which churns out Christian literature and documentaries. Ashimolowo's representatives did not respond to a request confirming his net worth and ownership of all these assets.

5.Chris Okotie

Church: Household of God Church

Net worth: $3 million -$10 million

Pastor Okotie made his first success as a popular pop musician in the 80s. He found the light, embraced the bible and set up the Household of God Church, one of Nigeria's most flamboyant congregations. His 5,000 member church consists predominantly of Nollywood celebrities, musicians, and society people. He contested and lost Nigerian presidential elections for the third time this year under the Fresh Party, a political party he founded and funds. An automobile lover, he owns a Mercedes S600, Hummer and Porsche among several others.

Younis Makhyoun, A Salafi party leader told Aswat Masriya that he welcomed the choice of bishop Tawadros as a Pope for the Coptic church, he expressed his hope that the new pope will take positive steps to maintain the national unity between Muslims and Christians.

"The new Pope needs to open files that had been ignored for decades, such as the second marriage for Christians", Makhyoun added.

"Tawadros will inherit a heavy legacy", said Salafi Party member Mamdouh Ismaeel. He added "I hope he succeeds in managing matters of the church in a manner that fits with the political updates since January 25" .

"The political role of the church will diminish in light of the current political where Christians participated in the ousting of the former regime" Ismaeel predicted.

Nasr Abdel Salam, chairman of Islamist Construction and Development Party asked the Pope not to provoke sectarian strife and to have the church avoid political matters.

Abdel salam stressed that the Pope must discuss some controversial issues with politicians, such as building new churches, and whether they are sufficient for the current number of Christians or not.

"The relationship of the new Pope with President Mohamed Morsi will be determined by both sides, though it depends for the most part on the new Pope", he said.

Nabil Naeem ,former leader of Al-jihad organization suggested that the new Pope should follow the lead of Pope Kyrillos VI; by limiting his role to the spiritual side alone and keeping the church away from made-up political clashes. He considered that it would be better for the church and his congregation.

He added that challenging issues will be imposed on the Pope with the rise of Political Islam, specially the Salafist Movement, and the group of "commanding virtue and forbidding vice", bearing in mind the incident which occurred in Minya two weeks back were a Salafist Movement forbade a musical concert for the Christian Youth Association. "The new Pope will not have any role in the new constitution because this matter is agreed upon by political powers and the church has no role in this context", he said.

"The new Pope will have to prove his faith in coexisting with others, as it is not a matter that involves the Muslim side alone", said Magdi Salem former leader of Islamic Jihad organization.

Salem stressed that he doesn't support the claim that the Pope's role is only spiritual. He explained that political interest is a personal matter that can be exercised within the boundaries of law. He asked the new Pope not to stir up trouble or to make of the church a state within a state.

What is Hiplife Music

Hiplife is a Akan musical style which fuses highlife and hip hop. It is also influenced by dancehall and reggae. Recorded predominantly in Akan, hiplife is rapidly gaining popularity throughout West Africa and abroad, especially in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Germany. The origins of Akan Hip hop goes back to the 1980s, when performers such as K.K. Kabobo and Gyedu Blay Ambolley as early as 1973 with Ambolley's release of his first record, The SIMIGWADO ...a "semi-rap in [fante languge] style hi-life" to a small audience which showed him performing highlife variations with fast spoken, poetic lyrics. Ambolley would go on to be held the "father of rap" not only by Akans but in the world. With time, Akans became influenced by American hip hop, reggae, dance hall. Hiplife's history dates back to the early 1990s Jeff Tennyson Quaye better known around the world as Jay Q (www.jayqlex.com) is one of the pioneers of Hiplife (in the mid 90s) and back bone of Akan music as a whole and his own variation and introduction of Jama/kpanlogo to hiplife, makes writers refer to him as KING OF JAMA. Reginald "Reggie Rockstone" Osei also began to craft this art form with producers Mike Cooke, Rab Bakari, Zapp Mallet and Coal house. Chief G and the Tribe was one of the first rap groups consisting of Chief G (now known as Jay Ghartey), Abeeku and Kwaku T. After they broke up before Reggie's foray into what is now termed hiplife, Talking Drums, consisting of Kwaku-T and Bayku, experimented with choruses and hooks in the Akan language. In Twi, Reggie would flow over hip-hop beats a style that had been used previously in Mahoney P's debut album Kofi Babone. That same era Native Funk Lords group (NFL) came out with the pidgin rap; the originators of the genre, from the Kay's Frequency camp: Tinniequaye, Cil, Jake & Eddy Blay; this group also took inspirations from bands like the Osibisa and Ghanaba. Rapper and producer Cavell was also part of the original NFL collective and is now known to many as The Mantis. Reggie Rockstone has been described as the "Godfather of Hiplife" since he spawned a new music genre in the country, After his debut album Makaa Maka, with the hit single Choo boi, several hip life acts followed. Oddly enough, in several radio interviews in 2004, Reggie Rockstone stated that he does not perform hiplife this could be mainly attributed to the fact that he now prefers to rap in English. A new era was born late 1998 when a young producer Hammer of The Last Two emerged with original beats plus precision rap artistes. Hammer, born Edward Nana Poku Osei managed to fuse hip hop grooves with local tempo and sweet melody which caught up with both the elite and masses instantly. Known for his heavy drums and lead trumpets, Hammer's originality elevated hiplife to greater heights and inspired and influenced a whole generation of producers like Richie, Kill Beats, Jayso, EL etc. Hammer of The Last Two's groomed artiste line up also eventually became some of the biggest artiste in hiplife today...e.g. Kwaw Kesse, Ayigbe Edem, Odeshi, Obrafour, Tinny, Sarkodie, Koo Wiase etc., Other Ghanaian rappers like Lord Kenya, Obour, V.I.P, The Native Funk Lords (Rapping mainly in pidgin English), Castro Destroyer and MzBel continued the trend of hiplife music which is now one of the most popular forms of music in West Africa. The most popular Hiplife musicians include Tic Tac, Sakodie, Vision in Progress (VIP), Asem, Obrafour, Ayigbe Edem, odeshi, D-Black, Castro, Koo Wiase and Samini who won a MOBO award for his contribution to hiplife in 2006. Since the rise of these popular musicians, hiplife has grown in popularity abroad. It must be said though artists like Ayigbe Edem, Kwaw Kesse, D-plan, Richie, ASEM, Koo Wiase, Sarkodie, Yaa pono, Keps, Lil Pope, Dirgen, Bra Kevin Beats, Greenfield,Iscream. In 2009 filmmaker, Mantse Aryeequaye, released a documentary focusing on the political history of the hip life movement as well as hip-hop music. In his film, Rhythm Rising, Aryeequaye also examines many famed Akan artists such as Kwaw Kese, Kwaku Tutu and Obrafour through their experiences within hip life or hip-hop movement. The film works to explore and expose the culture of the hip life movement. Hip life in Akanland is sticking to a new trend of rhythm and this is mainly being influenced by great music engineers like Kill Beatz, Dj Dijoe,Pie-Sie, Jay So looney, Richie, Kaywa and Hammer of The Last Two. There is this confusion with classifying hip pop made in Akanland and Hip life but in all they bare the same qualities and share common rhythms.

Hiplife can cover a broad range of musical styles fused together. Artists such as Samini combine reggae/dancehall/ragga scat and Jamaican Patois-tinged sounds of Jamaica with Akan language lyrics over reggae rhythms fused with Akan melodies. His music is branded by the general populace as hiplife. Then there are artists such as K.K. Fosu, Ofori Amponsah and Richie who do not rap or 'DJ' per se; but sing with a heavy R&B influence. Verses; bridges and choruses may be in Twi, but the structure and the rhythm fusion is suspiciously based on American R&B.But he and other artiste like himself fall under contemporary highlife.

PhD, MBA Holders Apply as Truck Drivers

The Chairman and Chief Executive Director of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has made a shocking disclosure that PhD and MBA Holders were among over 13,000 applicants who applied for the recent Graduate Executive Truck Driver in his company.

Dangote disclosed this during a mentorship chat with World Bank Youth Forum (WBYF) Coordinator, Mr. Rotimi Olawale with the support of the World Bank Country Director, Ms Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly.

Speaking to the surprised youthful audience, the business mogul said that the company only needed 100 drivers but was surprised to receive over 13000 graduate applicants and amongst them were about six Phd, 65 MBA, 649 Masters and over 8, 460 Bachelor degree holders.

He said what surprised him most was not the sheer number of the applicants but the quality and calibre of those that applied who equally graduated from reputable higher institutions.

"All these things are verifiable, and they all graduated from reputable institutions which is satisfactory; and our plan is to eventually make them self dependent", he said.

Drogba, Eto’o, Others Fight Malaria With Power Of Football

Gyan Made Black Stars Captain

Football icons including Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o and Steven Pienaar, along with African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) heads of state including President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania, President Blaise Compaoré of Burkina Faso, President Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, will lend their voices to the cause, appearing in television spots, billboards and educational materials that will be distributed across Africa.

“Across the continent, football dominates the hearts and minds of children and parents alike. But, so does malaria – the cause of 174 million illnesses and nearly 600,000 deaths in Africa alone every year,” said Samuel Eto’o, Cameroonian national team player and UAM champion. “We have united to utilize the power of football to fight malaria and we hope our fans will join us.”

Although preventable and treatable, malaria kills a child in Africa every 60 seconds and costs the continent an estimated minimum of US $12 billion in lost productivity and healthcare costs each year.

“I have been a victim of malaria and have witnessed first-hand the devastating effects it can have on individuals and families,” said Didier Drogba, Côte d’Ivoire

Activities kicked off during tournament qualifying matches as President of Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf surprised football fans at the friendly game between Liberia and Ghana to cheer on her national team and congratulate them for their efforts to fight malaria. “When we all fight malaria together, we build a stronger nations and save lives,” said President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia. “As a football fan myself, I understand the game’s power and popularity. We have the tools to win against malaria and I urge others to join us in the fight.”

In Nigeria, Malawi, Benin, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania and other countries, malaria messages will be shared using football players, favorite teams and sports programs. Research has shown that audiences retain and act on these messages more often when delivered by their football heroes. In those countries, billboards, sports journals, tournament programs will complement the PSAs on air to ensure the UAM campaign messages reach every household. In Cote d’Ivoire, images of Drogba and his teammates Kolo Toure, Gervinho and Salomon Kalou attract readers to malaria educational materials, and create excitement about ridding this West African country of the burden of malaria. The UAM campaign has broken language barriers by having PSAs recorded by football stars in over 18 African languages since the campaign was launched in 2009.

“I am honored to be a champion for this cause,” said Steven Pienaar, UAM champion and former South African captain. “It is unacceptable that malaria kills one child in Africa every minute. We can take such simple steps to prevent and treat this disease. United we can beat malaria.”

With all eyes on the tournament and its participants, CAF and UAM are committed to utilizing this platform to communicate important messaging to end deaths from this devastating disease,” said Mr. Hicham El Amrani, secretary general of CAF.
