TB Joshua: Allow A 'Man Of God' To Snore; He's 'Human'...Pastors Can Buy Private Jets December 2013

The Faith Tabernacle, where he hosts three services every Sunday, is Africa's largest worship centre, with a seating capacity of 50,000. Besides his private jets, Oyedepo also owns homes in London and the United States.

He also owns Dominion Publishing House, a thriving publishing company that publishes all his books which are prosperity-centred.

“…A man of God should have a private jet if the situation demands it” TB Joshua told NigerianEye.

According to him, “if the use is for the church, the church should buy it, own it and manage it. It should not be bought in the pastor’s name. When he is no longer there, the jet remains the Church’s”.

widely perceived as the most controversial and philanthropic amongst Nigeria’s clergyman. His church, founded in 1987, accommodates over 15,000 worshippers on Sundays.

In the past three years, he has given over US$20 million to causes in education, healthcare and rehabilitation programmes for former Niger Delta militants. He owns Emmanuel TV, a Christian television network.

He founded and owns Covenant University, one of Nigeria's leading tertiary institutions, and Faith Academy, an elite high school.

The Pastor has remained controversial for several years for his inexplicable powers to heal all sorts of incurable diseases, including HIV/AIDS, cancer and paralysis.

Additionally, Pastor Sam Adeyemi, founder of the Daystar Christian centre, a flourishing Pentecostal congregation which repeatedly preaches financial prosperity, is also a jet owner.

Following Joshua on the money list is Mathew Ashimolow of the Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC). He has an estimated net worth of US$6 million – US$10 million.

Also, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the revered overseer of Nigeria’s largest congregation, The Redeemed Christian Church of God, is also a proud jet owner. In March 2009, Adeboye spent US$30 million on a Gulfstream jet amidst widespread criticism.

Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, the Founder of the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), has defended the craze of owning private jets by Nigerian Pastors.

Page 7

Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, President of Christian Association of Nigeria, also came under a deluge of flak in 2012 for acquiring a private jet. He dismissed the criticism in the Nigerian media and said he was not ashamed to own a jet.

In 2011 alone, a few of Nigeria’s richest people, including some Pastors, spent US$225 million to buy private jets.

Miracle-craving worshippers flock his church to the brim. SCOAN has branches in Ghana, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Greece.

Founded in 1992, Kingsway International Christian Centre is reportedly the largest Pentecostal church in the United Kingdom today. In 2009, the church posted profits of close to US$10 million and assets worth US$40 million.

Ashimolowo earns an annual salary of US$200,000, but his real wealth comes from varied business interests Among them were billionaires Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man including his media company, Matthew Ashimolowo Justifying the need for Pastors to own private jets, TB Joshua said: and Glo’s Mike Adenuga. media, which churns out Christian literature and docu“when one is at the airport to catch a flight, you see that many have mentaries. become like Molue. and foreign medical students — has performed 700 free surgeries in the past year, and they know that their help can make a world of difference to those they help.

One man explained that the free hernia surgery he’d received will allow him to work again. “This will change my future with my family,” the man said.

In addition to holding these weekend clinics and working as a hospital surgeon, Bwelle also works nights at private medical clinics around Yaounde. It’s this second job, he said, that funds about 60% of his nonprofit; the rest is covered by private donations.

Dr. Georges Bwelle and his team of volunteers have performed 700 free surgeries in the past year.

By Meghan Dunn and Danielle Berger, CNN

Yaounde, Cameroon (CNN) — For 21 years, Georges Bwelle watched his ill father slip in and out of consciousness, traveling to hospitals that weren’t equipped to help him.

Jamef Bwelle was injured in a 1981 car accident near Yaounde, Cameroon’s capital. He suffered only a broken arm at first, but an infection developed and spread to his brain, creating a hematoma that would affect him for the rest of his life.

“There were no neurosurgeons in Cameroon,” Georges Bwelle said. “We would have taken him out of Cameroon if we had the money.”

Instead, Bwelle spent years escorting his father to overcrowded clinics and hospitals, getting whatever treatment they could get.

“It’s not easy,” Bwelle said. “You can leave home at 5 a.m., running to the hospital to be the first, and you are not the first. There (are) a lot of patients. … Some people can die because they are waiting.” The situation hasn’t changed much since Bwelle’s father passed away in 2002.

In Cameroon, there is only one doctor for every 5,000 people, according to the World Health Organization. For comparison’s sake, the ratio in the United States is one doctor for every 413 people.

And even if they could see a physician, many Cameroonians couldn’t afford it. Two out of five people in the country live below the poverty line, and nearly threequarters of the country’s health-care spending is private.

“The only problem they have is poverty,” Bwelle said. “And with poverty, they … cannot enjoy their life.”

Seeing his father and so many of his countrymen suffer, Bwelle was determined to do something about it.

He became a doctor himself, working as a vascular surgeon in Yaounde’s Central Hospital. And he started a nonprofit, ASCOVIME, that travels into rural areas on weekends to provide free medical care. Since 2008, he and his group of volunteers have helped nearly 32,000 people.

Almost every Friday, he and up to 30 people jam into vans, tie medical supplies to the roofs and travel across rough terrain to visit villages in need.

Their luck doesn’t always hold out: They’ve had to push vehicles through rivers and mud more than once. But when they arrive, they receive a true heroes’ welcome: a feast, singing and dancing, and the best accommodations the community can offer. In these villages, free medical care is truly a cause for celebration, and Bwelle — with his big smile and boundless energy — is more than happy to join in the fun.

“I’m not sure when he sleeps,” said Katie O’Malley, a secondyear medical student from Drexel University in Philadelphia and volunteer with Bwelle’s group. “He is always either at the hospital or trying to make money for the organization so he can go on these campaigns.” For medical and nursing students such as O’Malley, who come from the United States and Europe to join Bwelle on his missions, it’s a hands-on opportunity they’d never get at home.

“We’ve been able to scrub in on surgeries where we help blot blood away or hold tools for Dr. Bwelle,” O’Malley said. “That’s not something you’d ever get to do in America as a second-year medical student.” The student volunteers usually pay their own way to Cameroon, often arriving with donated medical supplies. But once they arrive in Yaounde, their board, transportation and instruction are covered by Bwelle.

“He’s a hero, without a doubt,” O’Malley said. “He gives his life to this organization, and his desire to help the Cameroon people is everlasting.”

For Bwelle, the near-constant workload isn’t a hardship. Helping others live happier lives, fulfilling a promise he made to his father, is something that brings him great joy.

The next morning, the team begins meeting with hundreds of “I am so happy when I am doing this work,” Bwelle said. “And I patients. think about my father. I hope he sees what I am doing. “We are receiving 500 people in each trip,” Bwelle said. “They are coming from 60 kilometers (37 miles) around the “To make people laugh, to reduce the pain, that’s why I’m doing this.” village, and they’re coming on foot.”

Each of these weekend clinics provides a variety of medical care. Many people are treated for malaria, tuberculosis, malnutrition, diabetes, parasites and sexually transmitted diseases. Others might receive crutches, a pair of donated eyeglasses or free birth certificates — documentation that’s required for school but that many impoverished families simply can’t afford.

In the evenings, the team will do simple surgeries with local anesthesia. Operations are usually done in a schoolhouse, town hall or home; after the procedure, patients get up and walk to the recovery area to make way for the next person.

With the group’s generator lighting the operating room and sanitizing equipment, Bwelle and his volunteers work into the early hours of Sunday morning. It’s a backbreaking pace, but village musicians usually help keep the team motivated.

“They are beating drums all the night to (keep us) awake and continue our work,” Bwelle said. On Sunday, the team heads back to the city, tired but proud of their work. The group — a mix of Cameroonian doctors

Ten Fun Facts About Nelson Mandela

BY DEOGRATIAS MUSHI,

Fact 1: Nelson Mandela was the first South African President who was elected in a completely democratic election.

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (Xhosa pronunciation: [xoˈliːɬaɬa manˈdeːla]) (18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary who was imprisoned and then became a politician and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the first black South African to hold the office, and the first elected in a fully representative, multiracial election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid through tackling institutionalised racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation. Politically an African nationalist and democratic socialist, he served as the President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1991 to 1997. Internationally, Mandela was the Secretary General of the Non-Aligned Movement from 1998 to 1999. A Xhosa born to the Thembu royal family, Mandela attended the Fort Hare University and the University of Witwatersrand, where he studied law. Living in Johannesburg, he became involved in anti-colonial politics, joining the ANC and becoming a founding member of its Youth League. After the South African National Party came to power in 1948, he rose to prominence in the ANC's 1952 Defiance Campaign, was appointed superintendent of the organisation's Transvaal chapter and presided over the 1955 Congress of the People. Working as a lawyer, he was repeatedly arrested for seditious activities and, with the ANC leadership, was unsuccessfully prosecuted in the Treason Trial from 1956 to 1961. Although initially committed to non-violent protest, he co-founded the militant Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) in 1961 in association with the South African Communist Party, leading a sabotage campaign against the apartheid government. In 1962 he was arrested, convicted of conspiracy to overthrow the government, and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Rivonia Trial. Mandela served 27 years in prison, initially on Robben Island, and later in Pollsmoor Prison and Victor Verster Prison. An international campaign lobbied for his release, which was granted in 1990 amid escalating civil strife. Mandela published his autobiography and opened negotiations with President F.W. de Klerk to abolish apartheid and establish multiracial elections in 1994, in which he led the ANC to victory. As South Africa's first black president Mandela formed a Government of National Unity in an attempt to defuse racial tension. He also promulgated a

new constitution and created the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate past human rights abuses. Continuing the former government's liberal economic policy, his administration introduced measures to encourage land reform, combat poverty, and expand healthcare services. Internationally, he acted as mediator between Libya and the United Kingdom in the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing trial, and oversaw military intervention in Lesotho. He declined to run for a second term, and was succeeded by his deputy, Thabo Mbeki. Mandela subsequently became an elder statesman, focusing on charitable work in combating poverty and HIV/AIDS through the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Mandela was a controversial figure for much of his life. Nigerian Named Forbes African Of The Year

15

Nigerian Agriculture Minister Akinwumi Adesina has been named Forbes African of the Year for his reforms to the country's farming sector.

"He is a man on a mission to help Africa feed itself," said Forbes Africa editor Chris Bishop.

Analysts say Nigeria's economy has long been dominated by oil, while agriculture has been ignored, even though it supports far more people.

Mr Adesina said he wanted to help people become rich through farming.

"My goal is to make as many millionaires, maybe even billionaires, from agriculture as possible," he said in his acceptance speech.

Aliyu Tanko from BBC Hausa says Mr Adesina has introduced more transparency into the supply and distribution of fertiliser, which had previously been marred by massive corruption.

The minister has also urged Nigerians to grow more food crops, especially cassava.

In January, Mr Adesina announced a scheme to hand out 10 million mobile phones to farmers to "drive an agriculture revolution" so they can find out the latest market information.

The phones are also used to get vouchers for seeds and fertiliser.

However, our correspondent says this goal has not yet been achieved, noting there is no mobile network coverage in many rural areas.

Nigerian Man Rescued After 3 Days Underwater December

A ship's cook, Harrison Okene, was rescued from his capsized tug after surviving for two-and-a-half days in an air pocket four feet high and living on sips of Coca-Cola.

New television footage has emerged of his astounding rescue by South African divers in May, who were only expecting to find dead bodies in the upturned wreckage that had sunk to the bottom of the ocean off the coast of Nigeria.

Okene, 29, only drew the attention of the divers when, by chance, he saw the light of a torch piercing the waters which were gradually rising around him.

According to Reuters, Okene was aboard the Jascon-4 tugboat when it capsized due to heavy Atlantic waters about 20 miles off the Nigerian coast. The boat had been working to stabilise an oil tanker being filled up at a Chevron platform nearby.

He was the only survivor found among the ship's 12 crew members. Okene was given an oxygen mask and diver's suit by the rescue team and made it back to the surface 60 hours after the ship had sunk.

He spent another 60 hours in a decompression chamber, where his body pressure was returned to normal. If he had been exposed immediately to normal surface pressure, he would have died. Mayor highlights administration’s accomplishments and announces new sister city agreement between DC and Addis Ababa.

On Sunday, November 3, 2013, Mayor Vincent C. Gray offered remarks at the Debre Selam Kidist Mariam Ethiopian Orthodox Church to convey his administration’s ongoing effort to engage and improve access for the District’s linguistically and ethnically diverse communities. Over 1200 church members were in attendance as the Mayor announced that DC and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia have agreed to enter into a Sister City agreement and highlighted his administration’s accomplishments directly addressing the needs of the District’s growing African community “My administration continues to take action and fully support programs that increase access to services, improve quality of life, and nurture the development of our city’s diverse immigrant communities.” said Mayor Gray in his opening remarks.

Following a warm welcome and introduction by Dr. Getachew Metaferia, Chair of the Board of Advisors at DSK Mariam Ethiopian Orthodox Church, the Mayor underscored landmark policies such as the Mayor’s Executive Order on Secure Communities declaring DC as a ‘Sanctuary City’, and the Driver’s License Safety Amendment Act of 2013 granting identity cards to undocumented residents as testament to the administration’s continued commitment to creating a welcoming city that facilitates the full engagement of its immigrant residents.

“I’m proud to announce that our city and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia have agreed to enter into a sister city agreement,” Mayor Gray said to an enthusiastic crowd. He added, “this agreement is inspired by the large and vibrant Ethiopian diaspora here in the District and by Ethiopia’s emergence as one of the fastest growing economies in Africa.” Mayor Gray invited the congregation to attend the signing ceremony, and indicated that the agreement will create opportunities for the District and Addis Ababa to exchange information and collaborate on mutual priorities in economic development, education, youth engagement and cultural proj-

Additional milestones specific to the District’s linguistically and culturally diverse African communities mentioned by the Mayor include the Office on African Affairs’ (OAA) newly acquired grant making authority, the launch of the African Community Grants Program which will build the capacity of culturally and linguistically diverse community-based organizations serving Africans, and the proclamation of September as African Heritage Month for two years in a row in the District.

The Mayor’s visit concluded with a special religious ritual performed by the choir and clergy as well as a tour of the church and Sunday school housed in a building adjacent to the church. Located on 1350 Buchanan Street, NW in Ward 4, the DSK Mariam Church boasts one of the largest Ethiopian congregations in the District and has since its founding in 1987 served as a central place of worship and community life for District residents and families.

You Will Stand! Her Page

Dr. Miriam C. Gyimah

Where are they now? Are they still visible to you? Are they parading in your face at work, at home, family and association gatherings? Do you still see them conniving against you in plain sight or are they doing it in secret? Have they constructed numerous obstacles against you that you can’t seem to find your way to your moment of triumph, your future of success? Fret not as I assure you. Those enemies you see today, you will see no more. At the brink of facing what seemed to be a failed attempt to freedom via the Red Sea, when the Egyptians were feverishly pursuing the Children of Israel to return them to captivity, Moses stood confidently in front of Israel’s host and promised them, "do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again” (Exodus 14:13). It had taken Moses many trials, and tests and constant communication with “I Am” to come to the point of having complete confidence in God to make such an assertion. Christians’ real relationship experience with God repeatedly confirms the reckless abandonment that we can have in Him. We can abandon all fear and know that He will show up for us, that He will reward our faithfulness and effort, despite the attempts of the enemy. Like Moses, we can advise ourselves not to be shaken or dismayed by the works of our enemies. Rest assured that as a child of The Most High God, anyone who comes against you will fail. It does not matter how much and how long they weigh their opposition to you. They will surely fail. Like the devil whose future is very clear in the Book of Revelations, your enemies, those who are wolves in sheep’s clothing posing as friends will fall. Those wolves that are bold enough not to disguise themselves will

also fall. They will tumble and tumble hard and they will crash into the thickest of walls. They will implode and then explode for all to see your vindication and the glory of God upon your life, so fret not. Consider the case of Joseph and his brothers. Young and innocent Joseph, a child born out of love and pain came only to be hated and betrayed by his own flesh and blood. Does this ring true to you or someone you know? Then encourage yourself and/or encourage that person who has been so hurt by his or her own relatives. Encourage them and assure them that just as the Bible teaches that Joseph’s brothers may have thought they were hurting him, even through the pain of being dispossessed, cast aside and enslaved, Joseph, through the love, will and plan of God, was elevated to second in command in the land of Egypt. Encourage yourself and your loved one that the very enemies who hate and war against you will come on bended knees to seek your forgiveness and acknowledge you as the great and favored person of God that He intended you to be. Keep in line with God and “with your eyes, will behold the reward of the wicked” (Psalm 91: 8). When your enemies are jealous of you, their envy and even hatred can lead them to be conniving and even destructive. But if you are a child of God, if you have devoted your heart and life to God, who can stand against you? No one! Take a look at that great man Daniel, a man who prayed continuously, a man who communed with God despite all threats against his livelihood and life in Babylon, a place of debauchery and evil. He stood up for God, and as a result, God also stood up for him. Intelligent, hardworking, honest and faithful to God, Daniel had risen in the ranks and become an administrator in Babylon, the land of his captivity. You see, even when you don’t seem to belong somewhere, even when people don’t believe you deserve your position in a foreign country, at work or even at church, as long as God has placed you there, and as long as you maintain your relationship with Him, He will lift you up and protect you even when the jealous ones seek your demise. Because he was a righteous and hardworking man, Daniel found favor with the King of the land, King Darius. Resentful of his success and favor with the king and that he unashamedly worshiped and prayed daily to his God, instead of the gods of the land, those who

perceived him as an affront conspired to have him thrown into the Lions’ Den. So even after they had tricked the king to sign a decree that anyone who worships any other aside from the king himself should be thrown into the Lions’ Den to be devoured by the beasts, and indeed Daniel was thrown into the den for preferring his God than any law, God saw his faithfulness and not only saved Daniel from the lions, but also punished the conspirators and their families with death (Daniel 6:24). As in the case of Daniel, many times, the efforts to derail you will be intentionally tailored for you. The lies will be constructed personally against you. The false accusations will be tailored made for you and the traps in the paths will have your name on them. But as He did it for Daniel, God will do it for you. The morning after being thrown into the lion’s den to be destroyed, a worried King Darius ran to the den to see if Daniel had been killed. But Daniel said to him, “my God sent his angel and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, O king." (Daniel 6:22). Just as Daniel, when your enemies conspire against you expecting your downfall, you will not fall, but stand and be able to declare that you are not harmed, because you have been found innocent in the sight of the Lord! Will people and evil forces come against us? Sure! Will they come against us even at our most faithful to God? Of course! They connived against Joseph and they plotted against Daniel, so what makes us any different? They will come, but they will not stand. They were not meant to stand; you were, for they have already been made your footstool (Psalm 110:1). We have illustrated how innocent children of God such as Joseph and Daniel were pursued by evil wishers. Now we turn to how two infamous pursuers of God’s children, unashamed enemies of God, were dealt with. All the evil that Jezebel and Ahab cruelly unleashed against the children of God was devastating, yet Ahab and his wife, enemies of God’s children paid a very terrible price and your enemies who wage war against you will pay a dear price. One such instance was the evil that Ahab and Jezebel did against Naboth. In I Kings chapter 21, we learn that Naboth owned a land passed down from his family. Ahab wanted that land for a vegetable garden, but Naboth told him he couldn’t sell it because it was family property. But Jezebel, conspired to have Naboth killed so that she could take the

December 2013

land and give it to her husband. She did. She had Naboth stoned and presented the land to her husband. But the Lord sent the prophet Elijah to tell Ahab, “the LORD says, "Haven't you murdered a man? Haven't you taken over his property?…Dogs licked up Naboth's blood. In that same place dogs will lick up your blood. Yes, I said your blood!" The LORD says, 'I am going to bring horrible trouble on you. I will destroy your children after you. I will cut off every male in Israel who is related to you. It does not matter whether they are slaves or free” (I Kings 22: 19-21). Indeed, the Lord fulfilled all His words. The Books of First and Second Kings teach us that after all the evil he perpetrated, Ahab was killed (I Kings 22: 37) and so were all his children (2 Kings 10:9). The Lord was sure to recompense him for all his atrocities and he, in the end, with all that he had built, particularly as a genealogical legacy, came to nothing short of a horrendous and destructive end. And what happened to his most evil idolworshipping wife? When she least expected that she would meet her demise, she was thrown out of a window and died upon her violent fall, and just as it had been prophesied by God, she was not afforded a decent burial as her remains were quickly devoured by dogs that she, this powerful queen, was terribly disposed of (2 Kings 9: 32-37). So after reading all of this, are you still bothered about what people are doing against you? Are you still worried about what your enemies might be plotting against you? Why? Leave it to God. Know that you cannot defend yourself as well as God can defend you. Know that you cannot recompense them better than God can. Move on with your life and your work in God’s vineyard. Focus on your calling and don’t waste any time with all the noise and chatter around you. You have already overcome, so don’t fret. Your enemies will fall, but you, my friend, will stand!

Nearly everything can be recycled these days. Even human excreta can power our homes.

40% of waste produced in Accra live with residents uncollected. Of the 60% collected, the percentage recycled is negligible.

The show will showcase fashion items made from ordinary trash and about 10 models will walk the ramp wearing the outfits during the event.

"A team of eight fashion designers has come up with 30 outfits that will be paraded by 10 models during the event.

"A panel of three judges will decide on the best outfit, with the designer receiving a prize," said PZF official Fungai Chiposi

PZF, through their flagship campaign BIN-it Zimbabwe, is pioneering a programme for recycling waste.

"This campaign programme will capacitate emerging and downstream industries to use waste as an input by providing easy and health-conscious catchment areas for waste," she said.

This year's edition is being co-ordinated by Zimbabwe's famous designer, Colin Ratisai.

The unique fashion show, which will be an annual event will not only illustrate the creativity of designers but will also be a wake-up call to all Zimbabweans to avoid careless littering.

"This event will not only showcase the immense talents that are housed in this country with local designers transforming what we see as ordinary waste into amazing fashion items, but will also act as a call to all Zimbabweans to come together and drive litter out of our country," said Chiposi.

The show is expected to introduce a new taste of fashion in Zimbabwe whereby trash will be considered for re-use and recycling to make new fabrics.

Chiposi said the country was generating three million tonnes of solid waste per year with no viable large-scale reuse and recycling strategies.

All this mixed waste is accumulating at various designated dump sites around the country over and above illegal dump sites mushrooming in residential and industrial areas.

Inauguration of Northern Virginia Chapter of African Strategic Leadership Prayer Network (ASLPN)

Post

"On April 26, 2008 in Louisville KY, the Awakening American Alliance through its Executive Director Rev. William (Billy) Wilson invited African Pastors and leaders to join with the American church in crying out to God for Revival in the American Church and a Christ Awakening in the nation."

In response to this invitation, the African Strategic Leadership Prayer Network (ASLPN) was formed on April 28, 2008. ASLPN partners with the Awakening America Alliance by mobilizing the African Leadership to prayer.

Since that inception ASLPN has grown this prayer movement through the African immigrant ministry leaders. Over the years ASLPN has networked with many Christian prayer ministries both nationally and internationally to gather for prayer for the nation in repentance through public events on the national mall and teleconference prayer led by sacrificial servants of the Lord. Two national prayer gatherings were hosted by ASLPN 2010 at the nation’s capitol and in 2012 at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. African Strategic Leadership Prayer Network (ASLPN) is a non-profit Christian charitable organization dedicated to prayer and intercession. On Saturday, November 16 the Northern Virginia Chapter of the prayer network was inaugurated at the auditorium of the Church of the Living God of Northern Virginia . In her welcome address Dr. Mrs. Mary Samba , the Northern Virginia Coordinator urged all Pastors to stand together in this crusade as one strong body to intercede for the current generation. She also expressed her appreciation to the Church leaders and pastors from various African Countries who have commtted themselves to the cause of the network . Rev. Kwasi Gyimah the host of the event delivered a message on behalf of Pastor Timothy O. A. Agbeja, Ph.D, Chairman of ASLPN, Mobilization Committee. “The Lord God says, "I sought for a man among them who will make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land...but I found no one". Ezek. 22:30. We as the body of Christ on earth must not disappoint God this time around, we must wholeheartedly respond with great enthusiasm to this glorious call of God to stand in the gap for the nation of America at this crucial time in the history of this nation. The Call to Prayer for America serves as a catalytic prayer gathering designed to facilitate the turning of America to a godly nation that God has created her to be. I want to encourage everyone here today to activate the Lamb's Agenda, reconciling the vertical and horizontal message of the cross, by unashamedly standing in the gap for our dear nation “God is calling the nation, and especially His Bride, to come to Him in fasting and prayer at this critical hour. I’m very excited as the Chairman of the ASLPN Mobilization Committee to give a clarion call to the body of Christ as we assemble here today to lunch the Northern Virginia Chapter of the ASLPN to serve as a worthy extension of this organization to stand in the gap to intercede for this nation that we all love so dearly, and join our effort together in mobilizing Believers to pray for our nation. "We need to have a corporate spirit and to sincerely expect a move of the Spirit. The success of this meeting depends on elimination and assimilation. We need to eliminate intentions or thoughts which will not promote the success of this nation. We need to assimilate anything scriptural that will push the move of the Holy Spirit across this nation. I strongly encourage all Christians, to depopulate the kingdom of darkness and populate the kingdom of God."

I therefore strongly appeal and encourage the body of Christ represented here today to fully participate in the effort of this organization and to consider this as a divine privilege to stand

Televangelist Paul Crouch of TBN Dies At 79 December 2013

Page 25

COSTA MESA, CALIF. – Paul Crouch, the televangelist who built what's been called the world's largest Christian broadcasting network, has died. He was 79.

Crouch died at his home in Orange, Calif., after a decade-long fight with degenerative heart disease, his grandson Brandon Crouch told The Associated Press.

"He was an incredible businessman, entrepreneur, visionary; he built something that impacted the world," he said.

Trinity Broadcast Network had reported that Crouch fell ill and was taken to a Dallas-area hospital in October while visiting the network's facility in Colleyville, Texas. He later returned to California for continued treatment of "heart and related health issues."

"We mourn Paul's passing and he will be greatly missed. But we know, as the old hymn reminds us, soon enough we will see him again in that great `meeting in the air,"' the network said in a statement Saturday.

Crouch began his broadcasting career while studying theology at Central Bible Institute and Seminary in his native Missouri by helping build the campus' radio station. He moved to California in the early 1960s to manage the movie and television unit of the Assemblies of God before founding Trinity Broadcast Network in 1973 with his wife, Jan.

They grew the network into an international Christian empire that beams prosperity gospel programming to every continent but Antarctica around the clock. The programming promises that if the faithful sacrifice for their belief, God will reward them with material wealth.

Based in Costa Mesa, the network says it has 84 satellite channels and more than 18,000 television and cable affiliates as well as a Christian amusement park in Orlando.

The Crouches faced criticism for what critics say was their extravagant lifestyle. Ministry watchdogs have long questioned how TBN spends the hundreds of millions of tax-exempt donations they receive from viewers.

Last year, their granddaughter and her husband's uncle filed lawsuits alleging $50 million in financial improprieties at the network and detailed opulent spending on private jets and 13 mansions and homes around the U.S. for the Crouch family's use.

The Crouches dismissed the allegations, and their attorney said the network's spending was in line with its mission to spread the gospel throughout the world. He was survived by his wife and their two sons, Matthew and Paul Jr. http://www.foxnews.com/

BASIC PRINCIPLES OF BIBLE INTERPRETATION The Principle of History

Pastor George Annan

It is a basic requirement when interpreting scripture to understand the historical background or setting in which the passage was written for the simple reason that God revealed His redemptive plan in a historo-cultural context among real people. As we read the scriptures it is imperative to understand who was ruling and where? What were the political tensions, problems and crisis in society? What countries were involved and in what way? What was the culture of the day and what were the customs of the people just to mention a few. To understand these questions we need resources like Bible dictionary, concordance, handbooks and books about Bible customs. From these books we are able to reconstruct the historical settings of a bible passage out of which flows the meaning. Illustration - THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS CHRIST Crucifixion, a brutal form of punishment meted out by the Romans in the first century Israel was a fact well documented by historians including Josephus. Crucifixion was used as capital punishment to those considered as slaves, extreme criminals, political or religious agitators, pirates or those who have no civil rights. The condemned prisoner was scourged and made to carry his cross PUBLICLY to the place of execution. Nails would then be pounded into his hands and feet and the cross was raised to stand upright usually about 10

feet above ground. Jesus was brought outside the city gate PUBLICLY and crucified at the place known in first century Israel as Golgotha (Calvary). We read in Hebrew 13:12 wherefore Jesus also that he might sanctify the people with His own blood suffered outside the gate. The person who does not believe in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ is one who does not believe in history. To deny history is to deny your existence If one understands the historical scene in which a passage of Scripture was written, often the passage will practically interpret itself. The following historical scriptures highlight the crucifixion: Matthew 23:24 Wherefore behold I send unto you prophets and wise men and scribes and some of them ye shall kill and crucify and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues and persecute them from city to city.

John 19:6 when the chief priests therefore and officers saw him they cried out saying crucify him. Pilate said unto them take ye him and crucify him for I find no fault in him. John 19:15 but they cried out away with him away with him crucify him, Pilate said unto them shall I crucify your King? The chief priest answered we have no king but Caesar. Mark 15:20 and when they had mocked him they took off the purple from him and put his own clothes on him and led him out to crucify him. Matthew 27:35 and they crucified him and parted his garments casting lots that it might sbe fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet they parted my garments among them and upon my vesture did they cast lots Mark 16:6 and he said unto them be not affrighted ye seek Jesus of Nazareth which was crucified He is risen he is not here behold the place where they laid Him.

A Man on a Mission- Rev. Dr. Daniel Ahia-Armah in the Spotlight Chapel International. In 1996; Rev. Armah was led to start and establish the first ever branch of the church in Osu, Accra the capital city of Ghana. By the unique grace of God upon His servant, this church grew to over 400 people in three years.

In the year 2002 Rev. Armah was offered the position of general overseer of Bible Chapel International but was led to the contrary by the Holy Ghost and by sound Godly counsel of outstanding men of God. Rev. Armah was then led to establish his own ministry called Kingslight chapel International and was inaugurated by the apostle general, Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah, president and founder of Royal house chapel international churches worldwide.

Rev. Armah has personally pioneered the planting of three churches and has an apostolic oversight of four branches of his ministry in Osu, Adabraka and Kpando in Ghana and Woodbridge, Virginia in the United States of America.

Rev. Dr. Daniel Ahia-Armah, preacher, teacher, motivator and entrepreneur is a Pharmacist by profession and a Pastor by call.

Saved by our Lord Jesus Christ in 1980 through a drama entitled “ETERNITY WHERE?” by the La Christian Fellowship, the then Brother Daniel grew rapidly in the Lord with an overwhelming passion for the kingdom and a clear cut leadership potential. His outstanding desire for holiness, integrity and righteousness earned him an accolade – “Pope”.

In his growing up in the Lord, Rev. Daniel served with humility in various capacities and in different departments as a committed Christian worker willing to do just anything to promote the kingdom of God.

From street evangelism, dawn broadcasts, open air crusades to prison ministry he shared the salvation message with great urgency and passion. The zealous brother Daniel was part of a group of young men that refused to allow Moslems to condemn Christianity in their regular Islamic crusades at the time. Armed with knowledge of the Koran through various courses, Brother Daniel and his group held many open air crusades preaching Jesus both from the Koran and the Bible to stop the adulteration of the gospel by Muslims and to propagate the good news. This hard work paid off when these crusades ultimately resulted in the first ever “ChristosIslam” debate in Ghana, West Africa. Dangerous, volatile and tensed as it was at the time, these events helped to stop Muslim preaching attacks on Christians using the Holy Bible.

In 1986 he was unanimously elected and appointed to the revered and highly respected position of the Scripture Union president of Saint Thomas Aquinas Secondary school his alma mater in Accra, Ghana. This position was a symbol of spiritual and moral authority as well as leadership in schools at the time.

In 1987 Rev. Armah entered active ministry work as part of a seven-member pastoral leadership team spearheading a Holy Ghost-filled church called Normal Christian Life Church. The depths of Rev. Armah’s supernatural encounters and endowments which is copiously evident in his ministry today, took place here.

Normal Christian Life Church metamorphosed into Bible

Rev. Armah graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as a Pharmacist and has over the years graduated into prescribing and dispensing to the body of Christ principles of God's word provided for our lifting. This he does with an amazing practicality and crystal-clear clarity. Cut in the mould of an authority he employs skill and finesse that has won him admiration from audiences in the US, UK and Ghana. The prophetic touch to his ministry makes him a carrier of a unique ministry grace - a typical conference speaker, seminar instructor, series preacher and scripture expositor.

ers, inspired people, established churches, published literature etc, The Cambridge Theological Seminary upon recommendation has in December 2009, conferred on the hard working preacher the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity.

Doctor Daniel Armah is a prolific writer of international dimension and recognition. He has so far authored six (6) powerful inspiring books with a readership fan base dotted around the globe. These books are: “VICTORY TECHNIQUES’’, “GOLIATH CAN FALL”, “RIDING THE WINDS OF CHANGE,” STONE SEAL & SOLDIERS’’ “SEVEN EFFECTS OF PRAYER” and “THE VISITATION OF THE LORD’’.

Three more books are expected from his anointed desk by the end of the first half of 2010.

Doctor Daniel Armah is married to the love of his life; a versatile, anointed and hardworking woman of God called Barbara, also a Pharmacist and blessed with a child by name Charis. Doctor Armah currently co-pastors the church in Woodbridge, Virginia with Barbara, the first lady of Kingslight chapel churches worldwide.

Dr. Armah believes that with God nothing is impossible. He also believes that the church is the only hope and moral example to a dark dying world of corruption. He is a deep, prayerful and fiery preacher who is simply “crazy” for Jesus.

Rev. Armah was the host of a popular Christian radio program called the “unknown friend” whilst a pharmacy student at the KNUST, in Kumasi, Ghana. Rev. Armah was also a brief host of a health program called “The Balm of Health” on Sunny FM in Accra, Ghana. Rev. Armah was again a weekly radio speaker on Sunny FM in an inspirational program called the PILGRIM’S LIGHT broadcasting the message of the cross and affecting many lives, homes, marriages etc in Accra and beyond.

He is also the founder and President of a novelty organization called the Christian Entertainment Inc. (CEI) a Para-church body burdened with the provision of a Godly-alternative in entertainment to compete with the captivating entertainment that the world offers. Rev. Armah’s CEI teamed up with TV 3, a leading TV network in Ghana to organise an annual program called “All Believers’ Valentine Night” a program that enjoyed national attention with a great impact on Christendom.

Pastor Daniel is also the CEO of Tears Away Foundation, a charity organisation established in Ghana for the alleviation of pain and suffering in any form among the peoples of Africa, dealing especially with health, food, shelter and clothing.

He has been in ministry for about twenty two (22) years and carries an infectious burden for soul winning, integrity and holiness. He carries a strong unadulterated message from God with obvious emphasis on faith, hope, character and evangelism.

Pastor Daniel Ahia-Armah is well sought after speaker in revivals, conferences and conventions around the world. In the US, his packed schedule of speaking engagements has taken him to many states and cities with tremendous testimonies and deep seated impact following.

In recognition of over two decades of selfless devotion to the Kingdom of God which has resulted in saved lives, raised lead-

Nairobi — Kenyans braved a chilly Wednesday, December 11 to witness history repeat itself as President Uhuru Kenyatta, the son of the country's founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta re-enacted a feat his father achieved at the very same grounds 50 years ago.

The transition theme was also witnessed with the masJust like in 1963, the crowd was cheered wildly as the flag was ters of ceremonies for the event, where legendary broad- hoisted by the two Kenya Army Servicemen and then it was folcaster Leonard Mambo Mbotela and former Capital FM lowed by a seven-minute fireworks display that lit up the sky. presenter Jimmi Gathu taking turns in guiding the programme for the night.

The crowds which had began gathering at the Uhuru Gardens on Langata Road from around 5pm, were in a partying mood that not even the hop, step and jump that members of the public had to adopt in order to gain entry into the venue - thanks to muddy conditions - could not deter them from experiencing this once in a lifetime event.

"DJ naomba ucheze mziki kwa sauti nadra, sio kwa sauti ambayo itapasua maskio," (Mr DJ when you play the music, please do so at a bearable volume and not one that can rupture the ears) to which the crowd respectfully disagreed and the DJ took it a notch higher much to their delight.

Only this time around, the Kenyan flag was the only one hoisted unlike in 1963 when Mzee Kenyatta led the nation in witnessing the Perhaps the best example of the generational gap was when Mbotela asked the DJ to moderate the volume. lowering of the Union Jack and hoisting of the Kenya flag.

On a night that was laced with the theme of transition from the independence generation to the self proclaimed 'digital generation', those in attendance during Wednesday night's hoisting of the flag made use of their mobile phones and iPads to capture the moment for future generations - if not for their immediate friends - as proof they were part of the Kenya's Golden Jubilee, a technological departure from the 1963 event.

So eager were some Kenyans who attended the Golden Jubilee that some found themselves getting in the way of the marching Kenya Defence Forces band.

Mbotela would be a source of further reflection as he recounted how he had been present at the venue when the Duke of Edinburgh handed over the independence documents to the late Mzee Kenyatta at the same grounds.

Mbotela told the crowd which included President Kenyatta and his mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta: "I was at this very grounds in 1963 when Mzee Kenyatta said we will get Uhuru (freedom) here and today I am glad to stand before his son, strong and with the same voice and witness this event."

Precious Hannah

United States based Gospel music star Precious Hannah is embarking on a 6 weeks tour to the awareness about the lack of proper hygiene and basic medical care of prisoners in Africa especially in Ghana. Prisoners in Ghana sometimes die unnecessarily due to lack of basic hygienic and medical care needs. Crime in the world as a whole is on the horizon but, there are innocent people who are jailed everyday for crimes they did not commit. There are 45 prison establishments in Ghana alone, including twelve major male prisons. These male prisons are located in Akuse, Kumasi,Sekondi, Tamale, Nsawam, Ho, Sunyani, Navrongo, Wa, Tarkwa, and Winneba. Ghana's prisons house between 11,000 and 14,000 inmates, with females forming approximately 2% of the prison population. The Ghana Prisons

As a nurse and a gospel music artist, Precious Hannah’s’ goal is to reach out to these broken hearted prisoners whether they are young, old, poor, innocent, guilty and help them embrace the love of Jesus Christ who came to die for all. She will be making her way to Accra, Nsawam, and Kumasi in Ghana in December.

The “Fefeefe” artiste Gifty Osei has already performed in New York City. A stage she mounted with Great Ampong, another Ghanaian Gospel artiste who is also in the USA.

This contemporary Ghanaian Gospel music label is a huge success in the DMV and a major talked about record and a great viewership in the social media. It is indeed “Onayme Adom” and indeed by God’s grace that we are alive today, able to breathe, enjoy God’s creation and roam about freely, whiles others suffer in jail with less than average hope.

The tour that will take her for three months started a month ago. Gifty Osei has for the past weeks played a lot of major shows in the States. Following the feed backs of her performance, the audiences have really accepted her and want more of her as Ghanaians know Gifty Osei for.

Quarter of 100,000 diagnosed do not know they have condition

Written by Juliana Lucas A PASTOR has launched a campaign to combat the high rate of HIV among African people living in London.

Fred Annin, who heads Actionplus, a small community organisation founded in 1997 to raise awareness about HIV, hopes to encourage those who are at a higher risk of infection, particularly African Caribbean’s, to get tested.

Statistics show that 44 per cent of those living with HIV, which stands for human immunodeficiency virus, in the UK are from African and Caribbean communities.

A more recent data showed that over 100,000 people in the UK have HIV. However 25 per cent of them do not know they have the condition.

Which is why Annin hopes to “raise awareness” by providing rapid and easy HIV testing sessions that begin on Sunday (Nov 24) in a church in Walthamstow.

The free project which coincides with the HIV testing week (Nov 22- 29) began after Annin went to Ghana in 2007.

He said: “I went to Ghana… within a month I was able to open two [church] branches. However the idea changed. [There are] a lot of the churches in the country but [they were] not helping those [who are] disadvantaged.”

The number of black Africans living with a diagnosed HIV infection has increased from 9,339 in 2002 to 25,331 in 2011 – nearly a four-fold increase.

Annin added: “Most times people do not seek help because of the stigma attached to the disease.” Gareth Davies, the programme manager at

Actionplus Foundation, is encouraging testing. The charity which also has a base in Ghana helped to raise awareness in the West African country where three per cent were living with HIV ten years ago, but now it has dropped to 1.7 per cent.

Davis said the point of testing “is so that you know about your infection early so you can start taking medication that will help you live longer.”

He said: “Stigma leads to people hiding their problem and not seeking help and may not seek help until it is in very advance stage which makes it complicated to treat.”

Although HIV is still incurable, someone who is diagnosed early can still have a full life, a near-normal life expectancy, and start a family.

Davies added: “People are not aware of the advantage made in the medications that are available. They see HIV as a terminal disease rather than a long term health condition”

With a series of rapid test taking place from next week individuals can find out about their status within five to ten minutes.

“The technology is advance so far we can now find out so quickly now,” Davies said.

“People who have put themselves at risk can also get help now by using PEP (Post exposure proxphylaxis) this is used within 72 hours after being in contact with an infected person.” Source: The Christian Journal

What Happens When A U.S President Gets Elected In A Year With A "0" At The End. Also notice it goes in increments of 20 years.

1840: William Henry Harrison (died in office) 1860: Abraham Lincoln (assassinated) 1880: James A. Garfield (assassinated) 1900: William McKinley (assassinated) 1920: Warren G. Harding (died in office) 1940: Franklin D. Roosevelt (dies in office) 1960: John F. Kennedy (assassinated) 1980: Ronald Reagan (survived assassination attempt)

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.' Kennedy was shot in a car called 'Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'

Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse. Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. And here's the kicker... A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

Young Women From 4 African Countries Participate In 2013 NeXXt Scholars Program The U.S. Department of State’s Office of the Science & Technology Adviser to the Secretary (E/STAS) is proud to report that participation in the NeXXt Scholars Program has more than doubled as it begins the second year. In its inaugural year, 24 women—12 International NeXXt Scholars and 12 American NeXXt Scholars—joined the program at 8 U.S. women’s colleges (http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2012/10/199153.htm). This fall, 52 newly incoming young women have joined the program at 12 women’s colleges including Barnard College, Bryn Mawr College, Chatham University, College of Saint Elizabeth, Cottey College, Douglass Residential College of Rutgers University, Mount Holyoke College, Saint Mary’s College, Smith College, St. Catherine University, Wellesley College, and Wesleyan College. In this year’s class, the program has 26 new International NeXXt Scholars from Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

The objective of the NeXXt Scholars Program is to provide young women from 47 countries with Muslim-majority populations and their American counterparts studying at 38 U.S. women’s colleges with opportunities for professional development; mentoring in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); networking; internship support; and career advancement workshops. The double X in the program’s title represents the X chromosomes of women. Launched in 2009 by then Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton with seed funding from USAID’s Office of Science & Technology, the NeXXt Scholars Program is a partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the New York Academy of Sciences (http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2012/01/180291.htm).

International NeXXt Scholars are matched with college-selected American NeXXt Scholars so the pair can explore the program together. Further, NeXXt Scholars are individually matched to female STEM mentors who provide expert guidance, advice, and exposure to STEM careers. Scholars are also granted five-year memberships to the New York Academy of Sciences to expand their network and provide career support. Through participation in the program, NeXXt Scholars supplement their college education with leadership, internship, and research opportunities that will build crucial skills and confidence, enabling these young women to become the world’s ‘NeXXt’ STEM leaders, problem-solvers, and innovators.

In addition to the above features, NeXXt Scholars have the opportunity to gather at least annually with other participants in the program and representatives from the STEM community. This spring, the first class of NeXXt Scholars met at Barnard College in New York City for introductions, professional development, and networking training. While at the conference, the Scholars also discussed careers with female scientists at Rockefeller University and then had a reception with high-level country representatives at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations.

Educating women in STEM is crucial as this promotes the values of science—meritocracy, transparency, and data-driven decision-making. Success in the STEM fields requires hands-on, inquiry-based learning as well as laboratory and research experiences that are available in the United States. Ensuring that women have the necessary skills and education to play a role in addressing global challenges and developing emerging market economies represents a win-win for all.

Africa is the land of several ethnic groups. Some of them stick to their tribal religions whereas there are those that follow Islam and Christianity. Besides the diversity of religion and culture, Africa is home to various language families and even larger number of languages. This makes the tradition of naming children by African people complex. Like African baby names, the traditions or rituals related to baby-naming ceremonies vary from place to place. In Nigeria, the young couple requests the grandfather or great-grandfather to suggest a name for the newborn. The elderly members of the family and the guests pray for long life, health and prosperity of the child. An exotic dinner is arranged for them. Usually, the eldest female member of the family asks the mother whether she has chosen any name for the child. She repeats the question seven times. Every time the mother announces an unimaginable name, the women who are gathered for the ceremony reject the name through traditional songs. At last, when the elderly woman repeats the question for the seventh time, the father of the newborn whispers the actual name to his wife. Then, the mother of the child announces it loudly.
