When our paths crossed in 2012, I knew he was God-sent and a living faith mover. He is not just one of the major secrets behind the success of African Peace Magazine UK, he is also one of our major sponsors. He is a brother, a father, a mentor, a spiritual father, a gift from God to us and humanity. Soft-spoken, calm, unusually simple for a man his status, blessed with extreme humility, humorous, and always smiling in a manner that portrays God's faithfulness in extremely difficult situations. In line with African Peace Magazine’s mandate of promoting peace through innovation, entrepreneurship, unity, and integration on the continent. The African Peace Magazine UK, in conjunction with her strategic partners, Rethink Africa Foundation, African Fact Checkers, Centre for peace and conflict management in Africa and African Right Watch is set to host the African Peace Award 2022 in London UK from the 11th to 12th November 2022.

The event is designed to host business, political, and diplomatic leaders. It is set to have in attendance, policymakers and think-tanks on Africa and Africa-related issues.

The African Peace awards 2022 seeks to honour persons, institutions, organizations, governments, and others whose actions, and efforts have in one way improved or contributed to peacekeeping and conflict management in Africa as well as improving the lives of Africans.

The African Peace brand has noted Peace promotion and conflict management in any society alleviates uncertainty and risk which in turn promotes economic growth in any given community. It contributes to the economic growth of the community by increasing the productivity in capital and labour as well as good governance.

The African peace brand introduces its awards in the hopes of promoting peace globally and specifically in Africa with the hope of effecting change in Africa first and then globally.

The Theme for the 2022 African Peace Award is Evolving a Sustainable Peace Architecture in a Changing World.

We therefore, specially invite you to attend the African Peace Road Show scheduled to hold in Dubai UAE, from the 2nd of September 2022 to the 14th of September 2022 and other events already planned for the year.

In this edition, we celebrate a peace icon who has dedicated his life to the service of humanity in promoting peace through the family and the community as a whole.

Olusegun Akintunde Ilori who has over 35 years in the private and public sectors as a lawyer, journalist, and public relations practitioner. He worked as a Controller/ Head of Corporate Affairs for Omega Bank Plc (now Keystone Bank) after a successful career as Senior Journalist in Daily Sketch Ibadan and a public relations consultant in Mednet Ltd. He served as a legal practitioner at Chief Afe Babalola SAN & CO Legal Practitioners as Principal Partner and Olusegun Ilori & co (Law Annexe Chambers) Since 2004 and also an Executive Director, Legal & Regulatory Matters at Green Energy International Ltd (Operator of Otakikpo Marginal Field OML 11) from 2015 He was appointed into different capacities as Press Attache at the Ondo State Liaison Office, Victoria Island, Lagos, Personal Assistant to Hon. Minister of Education, Special Assistant, Office of the Presidential Adviser on Energy, NNPC towers in Abuja, also as Chief of Staff to the Governor, Ekiti State and other AdHoc appointments.

He is a member of the International Bar Association, Commonwealth Bar Association, Nigerian Bar Association, Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN), Federation of African Public Relations Practitioners, and Commonwealth Journalists Association, among other professional organizations (CJA) and Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing of Nigeria.

Nadir was the first Angolan and African stylist to dress a film actress for the Oscars in Hollywood with Rachel Mwanza, Republic of Congo being nominated for Best Foreign film in 2013.

Also as an Accountant in RiverSide Park hotel and currently working as a Retail Customer care at Safaricom Plc. She has lots of interest in Interior designs, Books and Listening to podcasts.

Meet Regina Maria Manuel Gunza, an Angolan. A graduate of Journalism from the Metropolitan University of Angola.

Postgraduate in Entrepreneurship and Business from the Southern Africa Regional Leadership Center.

She has years of experience in Journalism, having worked for prominent media outlets in Angola, such as Rádio Ecclésia, TV Zimbo, The Crime Newspaper, Angorussia Site, among others.

She is a Marketing Manager for Personal Hygiene and Reviva Professional at REVIVA Fabric, one of the largest industrial detergent units in Angola.

Meet Dr Brenda Namumba, a Zambian.

The first to obtain a Ph.D in Astrophysics from the University of Cape Town. Being too inquisitive as a child,paved way for her understanding of scientific concepts rather than social sciences throughout her primary and secondary school days .

Having BSc. in Physics, BSc. in Astronomy and Astrophysics, MSc. in Astronomy&Astrophysics and a Ph.D in Astrophysics. She is an observational radio astroner. Mostly with her laptop writing proposals for telescope time which she later analyze and writes reports of her findings. Among what she does during her leisure is giving astronomy talks to the general public.

She sees her parents as her greatest support. Her advice to the next generation of women is to not underestimate themselves. In her word " We need to kindle girls interest in science and work hard to keep it "

e a problem solver! It is in high demand World over, in Africa especially. The responsibilities of leadership and management of resources has been vested in the hands of those that have no

inkling of the seriousness of the subject matter.

Peace is attainable from the lowest to the highest echelon in the society.

Land, borders, and water disputes are typical in local communities. The urban society has it's modern day problem of cybercrimes, terrorism and financial upheavals. Irrespective of the challenges, a committed leader will leave an indelible mark which African nations are in want of.

Are the leaders qualified? Do they have the requisite knowledge for the task? What is the task? These are the questions begging for answers.

Africa is a beautiful Continent that is attractive to stronger economies.

These nations prefer the weak leadership structure which enables their plowing motive to Succeed.

Leadership should be tested and proven. Africans have lost faith even in their identity and only a true leader who seeks peace can repair and restore lost dignity.

The world is in need of peace thanks to the Russian and Ukrainian war.

How do we foster peace with our neighbors? Do we be our brother's keeper or killer?

Our major identity is our skin and peculiar features. What lesson do we as a nation learn?

Is Coup d’état the solution? Is war or terrorism going to make our continent strong? So many unanswered questions. Africans need to brace up and take up the Hercular task of looking out for itself. Most Asian Nations are fast developing and have become skilled expatriates to African nations. At the same time exporting our best to their nation and we import from Asia.

For lasting peace, Africans must become industrialized and indigenous investors should be encouraged. Imports from foreign nations should carry heavy duties.

No Messiah will come from anywhere, we need to look inwards for peace, tranquility and progress. We need to coexist in peace, while building and expanding into a model fit for the international market.

Africans have had several leaders that did not have the solution but rather became part of the problem.

We can solve these problems, first if we acknowledge that we have a problem and leaders that are accountable.

A civil servant will not steal when he or she is sure that, saved pension is safe. And reward is given for hard work rather than mediocrity.

Terrorism is not fought by one Country but all nations. Religious intolerance is frown at with sanctions from member nations.

Africa has known too much unrest and its economy is in crisis with high indebtedness and inflation.

The impact of Cov19 is still felt, with many not going back to work and thousands are out of job. For those with jobs get pittance and the paid have inflation to contend with.

Suicide that hitherto was unheard of, unknown almost none existence is very much part of our everyday agonizes.

A problem solver that feels the pulse of the people, not with empty promises is needed. One that will take their Country and the continent out of these deep waters.

No doubt the Russian- Ukraine war is impacting the African economy adversely. The global downturn is hitting hard on the energy market. A barrel of oil is $107.14 and Russian oil has been sanctioned. Currencies have depreciated against the dollar, sliding down steep slopes .The subSaharan African growth has dwindled but a visionary leader with passion can turn the economy around.

This is a good time to export goods .Oil rich nations should become more accountable and possibly refine their own oil.

Recently, most Nations have relaxed their health and safety rules on travellers. This are an opportunity for Africa to improve its healthcare services and response to crises.

Insecurity is a major issue in West Africa with Boko Haram, Iswap and other unknown factions seeking supremacy by making lives and property unsafe. This has led to many leaving their communities, and source of livelihood to take refuge in Internal displaced person (IDP)camps and neighboring countries. Unfortunately, many are yet to return home.The cities are congested and the rurals areas are deserted. The Terrors destroy, kidnap, rape and kill. The governments, are not fast to respond and the people have lost faith, defending themselves.

How do we broker peace in a peaceless environment?

A problem solver, a leader can calm the storm. In West Africa, certain languages are spoken across borders. Hausa, Yoruba and Fulfulde, these languages have dialects. It is easy to identify where a particular person comes from, based on their spoken words. However, one tend to ignore these when one interact. Even when the person in question has identified with a neighboring country.

Borders do not exist in these neighborhoods, and a visit to a relative needs no formality. Security should be everyone's business.

Can a problem solver do much?

When most of the African countries are ridden with persistent crises. DR Congo Refugees are moving from place to place seeking for peace that does not exist in their Country.

Africa is in need of a problem solver, one that does not speak Swahili or Arabic but a universal language of peace, that transcends her disparity.

You can be that peacemaker.

In light of this, the training is designed for those who want to discover and develop their leadership and conflict management potential, find their voice and contribute to Africa’s success. It is also a great experience and a chance for the world to learn from Africa and how we effectively manage Conflict and Build Peace.

Goals: Youths will learn skills to become better leaders and peace ambassadors. This training serves as the overview and you'll explore what Conflict management and leadership are and the key skills and strategies effective managers use to create successful and peaceful communities/organizations.

Participants will be educated in management basics: motivating different personality types, planning, organizing and coordinating and controlling.

Participants will discover how to develop peace building team and how to lead even in the times of crisis and difficulties. Every day you will have an occasion to practice leading, Peace building and managing people.

Deliverables This is mainly a classroom-based course similar to higher institution studies format. Topics will be covered through case studies that encourage participants to do 90 percent of the talking during the discussions and workshops. The Trainers steers the conversation by making occasional observations, asking questions and summarizing.

The conclusions and decisions are made by the participants.

The Trainers will aim to keep the course material interactive and varied. In order to cater to a variety of learners, lectures using video, print visuals, audio, case studies and culminating with group work will be employed along with workshops.

Participants will bring into class "real-world" examples from their own mail, work, reading, or meeting discussions. Participant will each solve Conflict management and leadership case by researching real life success stories and presenting possible findings to the classroom.

Progress requires intense and prolonged practice.

Therefore, this training is designed as an inspiring laboratory allowing participants to practice Peace building, leadership and management skills in the classroom, apply what they’ve learned immediately to their real challenges at work and share the outcomes with the classroom and later with their team. Menace FAKE DRUGS IN AFRICA

According to the United Nations, sustainable development goal 3 access to good health and well-being is a major goal that the UN sees as a very important thing to be successful at.

Fake drugs have probed a great risk on Africans having access to safe, effective, quality, and affordable essential medicines which in turn is causing different health hazards leading to adverse effects and devastating loss of human life.

According to a report between 2013 and 2017, World Health Organization discovered that of all fake drugs reported, 42% of them came from African Region.

Even in 2019, the alerts for fake meningitis vaccines was reportedly in Niger, hypertension drugs in Cameron, fake antibiotic Augmentin were also discovered in Uganda and Kenya Some time ago, a report of a Togolese man, Hievi was shared. His experience with fake drugs had a serious medical effect on him, he lost his kidney and got paralyzed. He said he was down with Malaria and the doctor prescribed some drugs for him which he got and used. After about two weeks, he expected changes but it keeps getting worse, at that time, he was feeling pain in his stomach and could not walk again.

He was rushed back to the hospital in Lome where he was diagnosed with kidney failure which turned him into a cripple.

It was later discovered the quinine and antibiotics used were fake which affected his organ.

Combating this situation seems difficult each passing day as the proliferation of this is becoming rampant in the Region.

Fake drugs do not only make illnesses uneasy to be treated. It makes dangerous diseases stronger, therefore causing major damage to the body.

Tavares 2020, opined that most counterfeit drugs and goods are bought based on the price difference to the original goods.

People who under normal circumstances would not have access to the original product as a result of the prices can go for a cheaper alternative.

In a workshop on Anti-counterfeiting in 2019, one of the panelists said counterfeit doesn't just come, it is made when a specific brand is trending in the market and it's in high demand. The more desirable it is, the higher the tendency to replicate it to meet the parcel of consumers who want to get it but scanning pay the price.

It was opined that the consumers who want to buy it but as a result of the high price are more than those that could afford it at the initial stage. This did not justify the actions of the counterfeit producers, Majority did this for their selfish interest and urge to make it without going through stress as they believe most people would be able to buy their goods at an appointed time.

Fake medicines in a major problem as pharmaceutical companies are highly profitable, many counterfeits are lured towards creating duplicate medicines, causing threats to human lives. It is important medicines are thoroughly checked to confirm genuineness, though it is not easy but careful study of these is important.

Checking the packaging for unusual fonts, print color, and spelling errors; No breakage on the seal, if noticed, it should be returned; if the Price of the product is quite cheaper than the usual rate.

How then is the Continent dealing with this evil menace that is causing serious havoc in the health and well-being of its inhabitants, how does each country regulate the production, importation, and circulation of these drugs?

Nigeria In Nigeria, it is estimated that over 70% of drugs sold in the country are second-generation goods, and the government is taking serious actions in curbing the use of counterfeit drugs in the country. There are different acts put in place that enforces measures against fake goods.

The Trademarks Act provisions deal with infringement proceedings and granting of licenses to trademark owners. The Merchandising Marks Act determines and prosecutes trademark forgery. The Custom service has been given the mandate to check properly contrabands (such as illegal drugs and weapons) and enforce import and export restrictions and prohibitions to lawbreakers.

The National Agency of Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) registers all Trademarks, confirms the quality and efficacies of products, and declares them fit for consumption.

Such a product goes through three committees. MEDSAF is a health technology that allows pharmacies and Doctors to Manufacturers directly Algeria Every Trademark owner is expected to register with the government the look and kind of product sold. If within 30days, the Trademark owner does not confirm the validity of the goods and it is eventually destroyed.

Ghana Trademark infringement action is a criminal offense in Ghana which when discovered; all goods are seized and destroyed.

The Custom though does not have specific provisions after discovering suspicious goods can destroy it after confirming from the importer of the goods. If a counterfeit is not found it is then destroyed.

South Africa The use of fake drugs in South Africa is also on the high side as it is one of the largest economies in Africa. All drugs and goods are checked and confirmed thoroughly. Trademark sanctioning is done to products that are counterfeit and are destroyed immediately.

With some of these sanctions on these products, why is the spread still prevalent, the menace is still effective as counterfeiters are finding ways to retool, combat, and come back more sophisticated to deceive others and present their mimicked counterfeit as okay.

There is a recent development to confirming the originality of a product with the use of technology which consumers try to confirm the drugs themselves. The use of Mobile Apps reveals the usefulness of a drug and is checked through the means of identification printed on the packaging.

The use of Bar Code label which was introduced, certain human drug and biological products are given this linear bar code which will help consumers confirm the authenticity of the product, it even gives them the usefulness of the drug.

A recent development is also being used, the use of Mobile Authentication Service which uses scratch codes and Short Messaging Service (SMS) for consumers to confirm the authenticity of medicines at the point of purchase. A panel is scratched on the package and a one-time-use unique code is revealed and it is sent toll-free using GSM operators and the consumer then gets a message that the product is real or suspected fake Regulations should also develop frameworks to help resolve solutions to protect vulnerable consumers from the evil effect fake drug use can have on people in Africa.
