There had never been three teams from one town all qualifying for the playoffs in the history of this league and even more remarkable they all won Super Bowl Championships. Each team member, their coaches and other supporting staff members received Super Bowl championship rings.

native who was recently named the President of the Mary Allen College Alumni Association in Crockett. Mary Allen College, which closed in the early 1970s, was one of the oldest colleges for African-Americans in America. It was started in the 1800’s right after the Civil War. We were saddened to hear of the death of Geneva Ford, who passed away recently. Geneva Ford was the wife of former, Houston County Judge (Crockett) Ervin Ford and was a lady who was a strong believer in God. Ervin and his wife, Geneva were true Christians who believed in helping people regardless of their color or status. She will be greatly missed by our community.

Hall of Famer Rodeo Cowboy, Myrtis Dightman of Houston, a Crockett native was recently featured on the cover of the Texas Monthly Magazine.

Dightman was described as the, “Greatest” and the “Jackie Robinson” of Rodeo. Myrtis started his career five decades ago and won rodeos all over America and Canada.

Although he faced racial discrimination during his career, he never let it stop him from achieving his goals. These days Myrtis Dightman has an Annual Rodeo in Crockett, which features cowboys and cowgirls from everywhere.

East Texas has a strong group of citizens, Black, White and Brown who are coming together in all parts of East Texas and making it a great place to live.

Many of these citizens and business people are instrumental in sharing the our publication throughout the city and county by allowing the papers to be distributed from their business or just by assigning with the general distribution of the paper.

I

t broke my heart to hear about the Lamar High School student who was shot to death outside of his school. It has been said that his death was gang related. According to the United States Department of Justice, “most participants in gang crimes tend to be young, male and either Black or Hispanic.” Why is this?

In addition, according to the National Gang Center, there was a yearly decline of gangs from 1996 until 2003. After that, the number of gangs increased significantly, and as of 2012, it was estimated to be 30,700 gangs. There is so much going on in the world, and the sad part is, we don’t hear about everything that is happening.

There are many things that go unsaid or even unreported.

Our youth are faced with so much on a day-to-day basis, and keeping them safe should be a priority. So why do many young people join gangs?

When speaking with a deputy investigator, it was expressed that they join gangs for three reasons: being a product of their environment, joining for protection and for some, it’s due to issues with low self-esteem. When kids are a product of their environment, it means

that the cycle is just repeating itself.

These kids have been around the violence and statistically are more likely to join gang activity because of their surroundings.

This is not the case for all kids, but for many. Further, joining a gang for protection is something kids may do in order to feel safe from the world. A gang may be a comfort for them; the closest thing to a family, some may ever know or experience.

Last but not least, being a part of a gang may boost their self-esteem because it gives them something to feel good about because they belong.

Whatever the reason may be, many of our youth are losing their life due to gang affiliation, and it is important that we make sure they are safe.

There are some ways to make sure that our youth are staying out of trouble. The first thing is to keep them active. Kids should be involved in sports or even some type of club or organization. They can even participate in a hobby they enjoy, which keeps them occupied.

Keeping them active can help them stay out of trouble.

The second thing that can help is to constantly supporting them. Many times, kids get in trouble because they don’t have any support to help guide them and encourage them along the way. As an educator, I have seen the difference between kids who comes from a home with support and kids who have no one in their corner.

The difference is significant in how the student behaves, performs in school and even how they view themselves. Lastly, we have to be honest with our kids and expose them to the realities of the world. As much as we would like to shelter our children from the evil doings of the world, we can’t. We have to

The thought the writer here is referring to may seem foreign to some, but it is a simple explanation and description of the effects of mental disease.

According to the American Psychiatric Association mental illnesses are health conditions involving changes in emotion, thinking or behavior (or a combination of these) and are associated with distress and/or problems functioning in social, work or family activities. APA informs the disease is a common one and “in a given year: nearly one in five (19 percent) U.S. adults experience some form of mental illness; one in 24 (4.1 percent) has a serious mental illness and one in 12 (8.5 percent) has a diagnosable substance use disorder.”

Nevertheless, as accurate as I’m sure this research is; it never ceases to amaze me how there is a double standard attached when it comes to African-Americans suffering from the same mental illnesses as our White coun-

terparts. By no means am I attempting to buy into the various stereotypes which exist in these United States by making the following statement.

But, it is no secret that whenever mass shootings and senseless acts of disturbances occur which affects the nation on a major scale, it is usually done at the hands of a “mentally deranged”, White person. Yet, it has become a repetitive scene in mainstream media as reports are being made prior to an assailant’s identity being revealed that, whoever committed the act is everything under the sun, but a child of God. Ohhhhh, but when the suspect has been identified as an Anglo-American immediately justifications of mental illness overtake the severity of the situation. Not only that, but you can rest assured that a sympathy and pity party is underway for the so called, “mentally incompetent”.

From downplaying the scenario to taking extreme precaution in capture efforts, the script is completely flipped once a White suspect has been noted as the perpetrator. However, the parallel is like night and day, given the same situation with a Black person at the head of the scene.

The automatic assumption is that some angry Black individual has went on a rage and must be annihilated by any means necessary – and if caught that individual MUST BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW! In some cases, African-Americans may not even be the actual target or suspect, but just a mere

presence is enough to appoint the nearest Black man as the “fall guy”.

Such was the case in the latest incident at the Hoover Mall in Alabama. 21-year-old, Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford Jr., was assassinated when police say gunfire erupted inside the mall.

According to reports, Bradford’s friend was seriously injured, a 12-year-old bystander was shot from behind and eight others were treated due to wounds inflicted by evacuating the scene.

Preliminary reports released by the police department said, “Bradford fired the shots that wounded the other two.” It was later established he did no shooting at all. The authorities on the scene took it upon themselves to shoot first and investigate later.

As a result, Bradford’s family are prematurely burying him because an officer decided to be judge and jury.

Though there is much more to the fore-mentioned case, the fact remains that a young Black male lost his life for being Black and at a public place at the wrong time. But, what really gets my blood to boiling is the fact that there have been numerous mass shootings which have taken the lives of many and strict precautions were taken to ensure the so-called “lunatics” were apprehended unharmed. But, there is a very different approach when it comes to dealing with situations in our communities.

Though it may be Mental for Them to kill scores of people, it is Criminal for Us to be on the scene of a situation gone wrong. Guilty or not!

The deputy investigator I spoke with sees a lot on a daily basis. One of the things he mentioned was that kids should be informed of what they put

on social media, and should be careful about what they view as far as celebrities, etc. Everything they see on television, social media, or what they may hear in music may not all be true. The deputy investigator did give some advice to the

youth which is to “stay as far away from gangs and cliques… stay to yourself, and learn that life is really about struggling, making career decisions, overcoming adversity and putting yourself in the position to be successful.”

By Rebecca S. Jones HOUSTON - Proverbs 20:29 declares, “The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.” But, what good is strength, when there is no wisdom to assert on how to use it?

On the other hand, what good is wisdom if it is not being invested into a younger demographic to enhance the future in some way or another?

As it is, the African-American community of today has lost many of the fundamental values that had been passed down from generation to generation. For some, education and knowledge has replaced the old virtues of, “yes sir” and “no mam”, “thank you” and “you’re welcome”.

Many have become too intelligent to be helped, less known mentored. Thus, we are witnessing “mis-educated” scholars who are, all suited and dressed up with nowhere to go.

Before I attempt to delve into this growing phenomenon, I must first provide our readers with a disclaimer. The individuals depicted in the photos associated with this piece are used as a mere phantasm of the way things have become. But, what happened? How did we get here?

Root of the Problem

Sure, I am not able to address every issue which has and is contributing to the destruction of our community. However, I will do my best to identify a few of the underlying factors which exist. After hearing phrases like, “The more mis-educated we get, the more unemployable we become” from Roy Douglas Malonson and Pastor Richard Jones, Sr. who always said, “The less we had, the better off

we were.” I can’t help but think there is some self-inflicted truth to what is happening within our culture in real-time.

But let’s rewind back in time, because certainly we didn’t just get here overnight. One disconnect occurred when parents first started saying, “I’m not gon raise my children the way Mama and Daddy raised us.” Not realizing that stern, “no-nonsense” demeanor toted them a long way. Despite the method and delivery, those approaches kept pennies flowing in the household, a stable roof to dwell under, children out of the grave and penal system and; a certain sense of pride even when society suggested it was not popular for a Black person to have such.

Some have contributed this element to the entrance of integration within Black America. I am told of a time when there were certain things that Black folks just wouldn’t do.

Yet, when mixing and mingling with different personalities and spirits from other backgrounds, it is an automatic rule of thumb that something will be inherited or transferred. That is exactly what happened. Maybe, some things were for the good, but a person can never go wrong by being true to themselves.

Therefore, adapting and adjusting to appease others and fit in has created a wealth of dressed up folk, with nowhere to go.

History documents periods in our past when Black people were self-sufficient, resourceful and reliable. Even being in bondage and under the ThreeFifths Compromise, which regarded Blacks as three-fifths a person, it did not stagnate the prominence of Black Wall Street and others like it.

Though Blacks were abandoned on a lonely island, discouragement and alienation was used as a platform to establish justice, equality and the civil rights we currently enjoy.

The Problem

Here we are at the close of 2018, 50 years after the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and some things are still business as usual. While it is easier to scapegoat the many un-

to show the way as the youth are trained to lead the way.

The Black community is in a desperate need for young leaders to take a stand, but how can the present leadership feel comfortable passing the torch on to a dressed-up, entitled generation with nowhere to go?

We have a generation who has very little knowledge about what it means to respect themselves, their parents, family members, leaders, employers or anybody else – but, still dressed up. It appears that modern sophistication, technology and mis-education has alleviated the importance of relying on elders

But in our community, so many of the youth are busy degrading, disrespecting and criticizing the efforts of the elders and leaders instead of learning from them.

As a result, many just look good styling and profiling on social media platforms and posted up in the streets and at the club; but have no real direction in terms of true servitude and lead-

ership.

It is impossible to lead a people when you have no experience following, or nothing else for that matter. A lot of youngsters want to come directly out of college and feel like they are ready to go to war and have not endured anything.

Pardon my digression, but, it’s easy to talk about how bad a soldier who has battle wounds from war looks, when you have never been in battle and have no idea what it takes to come out alive.

The same is the case for many of our “mis-educated” youth, who feel their education has entitled them to skip to the front of the line. Yeah, you may look good dressed-up, but where can you possibly go with nothing but a piece of paper and no elbow grease behind it?

Carter G. Woodson explained it best in the 5th chapter of The Mis-Education of the Negro.

An excerpt from the book is recorded as follows, “The greatest indictment of such education as Negroes have received, however, is that they have thereby learned little as to making a living, the first essential in civilization. Rural Negroes have always known something about agriculture, and in a country where land is abundant they have been able to make some sort of living on the soil even though they have not always employed scientific methods of farming. In industry where the competition is keener, however, what the Negro has learned in school has had little bearing on the situation, as pointed out above. In business the role of education as a factor in the uplift of the Negro has been still less significant.”

Evelyn Magley Amidst being a mother, grandmother, teacher and former athlete, Evelyn Magley has made history by becoming the first African-American woman to own a professional sports league.

But, who is Evelyn Magley and what league does she own?

Evelyn hails from Kansas City, Kansas. Early on, she developed a knack for community involvement. As a teen, she frequently held a neighborhood choir of children and adults of around 50 people. She would play the piano as her entire neighborhood gathered to witness her melodious voice.

During her fundamental years of schooling, she remained involved in athletics and music.

But, it was her talents as a track athlete that afforded her the opportunity to attend the University of Kansas on a track scholarship. Unfortunately, she found out she had sickle cell traits, sidelining her from participating

By Jay the Barber When the Houston Oilers left the city of Houston and relocated to Nashville to become the Tennessee Titans; it was a bitter-sweet moment. The city was in an uproar over the departure but it wouldn’t last long. Bob McNair came along and purchased an expansion franchise, for a record breaking $700 million in 1999.

During her time in college, she spent every summer working at the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline in the Accounting department. She also interned at the Rainbow Mental Health Facility in Kansas City. She worked with abused children, using music therapy as a tool to teach life skills and heal emotional and psychological wounds.

After some time, she met David Magley, who was equipped with quite the athletic resume.

He played basketball for the University of Kansas, was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers, and at one point in his career, played under legendary NBA coach, Phil Jackson. Eventually, the pair married and Evelyn learned how the game was taught by observing the interaction of the players.

After a career in basketball, they began raising a family and moved to Bradenton, Florida.

Evelyn became a music teacher and David the head basketball coach at Bradenton Christian School. Evelyn was the first African-American teacher at this school, the first paradigm broken in her career. When she arrived, the program had a total of nine students involved in the game on September 8, 2002 they beat the instate rivals Dallas Cowboys 19-10 to kick off the inaugural season with the team’s first win in franchise history.

Bob McNair was a very charitable man who made donations to Baylor College of Medicine, M.D. Anderson, Texas Children’s Hospital and the Heart Institute of Texas. He gave $3 million dollars to the United Way of Houston, paid for the funerals of the nine people killed in the South Carolina church

secondary music program which was confined to a trailer outside of the school. Thirteen years later, over 90 percent of the student body was involved and the program had become a multi-million dollar function.

Afterwards, the two moved to Canada, where David began his professional coaching career with the Brampton A’s of the NBL Canada while Evelyn became the Community at Heart Outreach Director. It is here where Evelyn and David came up with the idea of a basketball league that serves the community. Two years later David became the Commissioner of the National Basketball League of Canada. He remained there until, he and Evelyn decided to officially establish their own professional league.

While brainstorming names for the league the Magley’s daughter, Jennifer made a suggestion to, “keep things simple.” Thus, TBL was birthed.

What is TBL? The Basketball League (TBL) is a new professional basketball league with 11 teams in the United States that will make its debut in the 2019 season. TBL’s motto is, “Where the Spirit of the Game Lives.” The league has a passion for helping the communities in which the teams are located and focuses on the development of its players.

The Basketball League aims to offer both players and communities something different.

Evelyn said, “The Basketball League is about much more than just basketball, the primary driver is serving our communities.” Evelyn further discussed the importance of a prospective athlete’s character plays in their success in the league. She stated, “We will be sending these young men into schools, community events, etc. We don’t want to sign players who just show up to practice, play their games and cash their check. It’s about acting as a role model for the next generation; being a positive influence in the community.”

As a different league, TBL intends to differentiate itself through community involvement and creativity. A few of those differentials include: players reading to younger children, hosting basketball camps for teens and speaking in schoolwide assemblies about substance abuse, anti-bullying and staying in school. The league looks to encourage a family-friendly environment at their games with many games taking place inside local schools, frequent family event nights and the “Hope Zone”. The Hope Zone is an area in each TBL arena where children with serious or terminal illnesses, invite friends and family for an evening of enter-

tainment and fun. TBL will also serve as a more financially feasible option for families looking to spend time together on a budget. Families will be able to attend a professional basketball game, get snacks and drinks all for the price of one NBA ticket.

TBL’s philosophy reaches beyond its teams and communities, as the way players are treated plays a big role in the success of the league. “The talent pool for professional basketball is practically limitless,” says President David Magley.

He continued, “We have thousands of guys chomping at the bit to earn their spot on a roster and we want to reward them for their hard work. Of course, we pay them, but we want to prepare them for the next step.

We provide our athletes with training on how to manage their finances, offer advice on how to develop their character and show them the importance of service. If they end up getting an offer to play for a league that can pay them better, then we will wish them the best and release them from their contract.”

Tentatively, the league is planning to develop a total of 60 teams by the 2025 season. As Evelyn continues to trail-blaze her own path, a different league for basketball and professional sports, is certainly on the horizon.

There are not too many people who would say anything

bad about Bob McNair. However, how do we honor him in the Black community after the racist comment he made, “Letting the players run the NFL is like letting the prisoners run the prison”. I talked to a few people and not all people think the comment was racist, some people called it a figure of speech.

Me personally I would have loved to hear him take ownership of such harsh words that divided the community. For eighteen years the Texans have been

the heartbeat of the city with a lot of love from those who reside here and around the world.

We will never know the full meaning of the inmate comment or what he really meant to say.

So let’s just celebrate his life and all he did for the Houston Community. On behalf of myself and the AAN&I family would like to give my condolences to the McNair family. Thanks for bringing the NFL back to our great city. Mr. Robert “Bob” McNair.

HOUSTON - There used to be a time where the church was the true pillar of the community. A time where people would turn to the church for anything, whether it be support, guidance, prayer, etc. For some people, it still is. Aldine ISD’s superintendent Dr. LaTonya Goffney, held a luncheon with local pastors in the Aldine community to discuss important issues that are impacting their schools and community as a whole.

The purpose of this meeting was to identify which pastors reside within the Aldine community and establish a partnership with the ministerial community. There are many students who attend the various churches that are located in the Aldine community, so a collaboration would be beneficial to Aldine, the students, and their families. Pastors speak to their congregation every Sunday, which range from hundreds to thousands of people.

They are able to help communicate important information, assist with tragedies, students, crisis situations and can offer support, guidance, prayer and a

Dr. Charlotte Davis, Director of Guidance and Counseling made it known that overall, the district hasn’t been informed of any hate crimes that have happened, but if they do occur, the district does have protocols in place to address it.

Another topic of concern was sex trafficking. One pastor noted the importance of this topic and how churches and schools are considered to be the highest breeding and recruiting ground. Regarding this subject matter, the district has trained their counselors to know what to look for, and how to handle this situation if a situation was to arise. Other topics discussed consisted of bullying and mentoring our youth. These are just a few topics that our youth are facing on a day-to-day basis.

This luncheon was well attended and was the first meeting of many more to come. Dr. Goffney truly believes in the collaboration and partnership with these ministers in order to help make Aldine even more successful. “The way to change the world is through individual responsibility and taking local action in your own community.�

HOUSTON – The Hate U Give, a recent book turned into film, entails a gruesome scene of one of the characters, Khalil, a young African-American teenager, being shot by a jittery White police officer who pulls them over and mistakes his hairbrush for a gun.

This book was written by a young African-American writer, Angie Thomas, who stated that her novel was inspired by Tupac Shakur; hence, the title of Thomas’ book: T= THE, H=HATE, U=YOU, G=GIVE= THUG.

Based on research, several titles on The Banned Book List are written by minority writers who craft their characters and stories around discrimination and racism. In several school systems around the nation, parental permission must be granted prior to a student being able to access to, The Hate U Give.

This is surprising because we all can turn on the television, and scroll social media to see real-life police brutality happening in our own backyards.

With this element of truth, is the continued censorship of African-American art, music, story-telling and verbal expression new? What’s wrong with these methods of peaceful expression of our displeasure with a lack of justice and equality?

Is this an effort to conceal the truth about the police brutality and potential death encounters

what students feel about the real and uncomfortable issues that mirror their own circumstances. A small group session was assembled of the following students who read the book and watched the film.

These students spoke one by one about the negative encounters with police from personal experiences and experiences through family members and friends.

“It is clear when a White teenager does something, it is overlooked, but when a Black kid does the same thing, he is treated more aggressively,”

that our African-American children will possibly encounter in their near future and as young adults? How does that help our students of color if we refuse to have the hard discussions?

Thankfully, the negative press turned positive, as Angie Thomas is one of the few minority writers, whose book was turned into a film. This of course, helped to get the message across to even more people in general.

We walked the hallways of Booker T. Washington to see

The film is a direct reflection of the REAL problems our young adults are experiencing right now. Unfortunately, they do not feel protected by the very entity that was created for protection.

Ironically, through reading this book, and discussing the film, the teachers at Booker T. Washington are taking the opportunity to have open dialogue, and are refusing to hide the unfortunate issues that loom over minority students in our society.

They have found ways to explore the psychological toll of these issues with care and understanding.

In closing, Booker T. Washington teachers have also taken the opportunity to build bridges and relationships with our campus police officer to ensure that our students are aware of the positive ways to deescalate a potentially negative situation.

They agree that is better to have the hard conversations and save a life; rather than, brush the obvious under the table.

Fake Seeds not Fake News!

We have fake hair, fake eyelashes, fake nails and even fake butts and other various fake body parts. On television, Twitter and social media sites, we hear the term “Fake News”.

Now, we have a new one on the market and that’s fake seeds!

Yes, you read that right…Fake seeds.

A group of Black farmers filed a lawsuit against the Stine Seed Company, an Iowa-based seed giant, worth billions. The Black farmers purchased $100,000 worth of certified soybean seed from Stine Seed Company and another $100,000 worth of chemicals to assist with growing the “certified seeds”. Certified seeds must meet strict requirements for genetic purity, variety identity, state specified state germination rates and free of weeds.

Soybeans consistently rank in the top three for cash receipts for row crops (University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture), are the top agricultural commodity that China imports from the United States and its oilseed account for 60 % of the 20-billion of agricultural exports to China (USDA-NASS). This dominance makes for a very competitive industry. Soybeans are a legume that’s mainly used for animal feed and vegetable oil. It is also a source of protein for humans such as soy milk, soy sauce, tofu and edamame (green soybean). Soybean oils are even used as the soy-based ink in 80% of newspapers and magazines, soy-based hydraulic fluid is used in the elevator inside the Statue of Liberty.

Now back to the seed, or lack thereof. The farmers placed an order for the certified seed after attending the 67th Annual Mid-South Farm and Gin Show in Memphis Ten-

dubious, the farmers sent the seeds to Mississippi State University, who maintains the State Seed Testing Lab. The results concluded, the seeds had a germination rate of zero percent (0%), were non-certified and the lab sample showed rotten molded seed.

Ironically, their neighboring White farmers who planted with certified Stine seed, with the same soil, same equipment and same rainfall as the Black farmers, had high germination rates and a successful harvest report-

Black farmers protesting the exploitation of “fake seeds”. growing conditions in the state of Mississippi. The Black farmers, including David Hall and Thomas Burrell, are soybean farmers and partners with farming operations of 2,200 acres in Mississippi and 1,000 acres of land in Louisiana.

The lawsuit states, the experienced farmers possessed the necessary farming skills and equipment to adequately plant, cultivate and harvest all of the varieties of the certified Stine seeds they contracted for (Hall, Burrell, et. al v. Stine Seed Company, et., al.).

After signing a license and growers agreement authorizing the use of Stine certified seeds for the 2017 crop year, Stine’s district manager (Kevin Cook) had the certified seeds delivered

on another farm.

The Black farmer’s variety selection, from Stine certified seed, was an excellent choice due to their history and technology. Per their website, the company owns more than 800 patents and at least 750 of those are directly related to soybeans and reflects that the Stine name is synonymous with outstanding soybeans and first to market their high-yielding varieties.

The district managers for Stine Seed provided business cards to the farmers that specifically advertised the phrase “STINE HAS YIELD”.

Speaking of yields, at the end of the growing season/at harvest, the Black farmers experienced extremely poor yields of soybeans. Disappointed and

ing 70, 80, even a 100 bushels, whereas the Black farmers had yields of up to 5 bushels and the Black farmers were unable to sell on the open market. Their losses amounted to more than 1-million.

The lawsuit contends that once at the distribution facility/ warehouse, the district manager intentionally switched out the seeds, placing the non-certified inferior seed into a previously emptied Stine Seed bag and tampered with the labels of the bulk bags, essentially re-packaging the seeds. The certified Stine seeds purchased by the Black farmers were then sold to other farmers. They didn’t get what they paid and signed for.

The class-action lawsuit was filed under the RICO. No, that’s

not a nickname. It’s the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organization (RICO) Act of 1970 passed by Congress with the purpose of seeking to eradicate organized crime in the United States. A violation requires (1) conduct (2) of an enterprise (3) through a pattern (4) of racketeering activity and in order to be found guilty the government must prove beyond a reasonable doubt. The law also mentions that racketeering predicates are related if they have the same/ similar purpose, results, participants, victims, or methods of commission, or otherwise interrelated by distinguishing characteristics and are not isolated events.

Unfortunately, these events are not isolated. They are continued acts of systemic racism against Black farmers. During a recent interview, with Hall and Burrell, Burrell stated that “the co-conspirators saw the Black farmers as (to use a farm term) “easy pickings”.

He went on to say that the switching of the seeds was a deliberate attack on Black farmers.

This is one of the weapons to help eliminate the Black farmer and take his land (Poor yield x can’t repay farm loan = loss of farm/loss of land). The attack comes in many forms, on the government level (discriminatory history of the USDA) and on the local level (local banks, seed manufacturers, seed distributors). Hence, I leave you with two quotes from the farmers, Burrell and Hall.

Burrell: “The private entities are now doing what the government did long ago. The government is denying them loans to buy seeds on one hand and when they get the money to buy seeds, the seed companies are selling them fake seeds. So it’s a double whammy”!

The Spirit of Giving PRAIRIE VIEW - Just a few days before Thanksgiving 2018, the Prairie View Chapter of the Top Teens and Top Ladies of Distinction gathered together to try to bring joy to a family in the Waller County area during the holiday season. As part of their purpose of the Top Teens and Top Ladies which is to fulfill a mission: ownership, mental toughness, empowerment networking, teamwork unity, and mentoring.

It appears the Ladies and Teens were driven and did complete their ideal purpose of the above mentioned tasks. First, the Ladies and Teens set out at the Health Center in Prairie View to package as many perishable items in the Thanksgiving basket as possible to make sure the family had a holiday to remember. After packaging

the goods, the Teens and Ladies took time to donate the basket of goods to the family.

It just so happened the mission of gathering enough items for one family spilled over to two families having a holiday to remember. The Prairie¡View Chapter Top Teens and Top Ladies hopes the two families enjoyed receiving the holiday baskets as much as they enjoyed giving. Hopefully, next year the Chapter w­ill be able to donate to more families.
