Organization Racism

I

n our modern day American Society, which is made up of people from all around the world, we are currently being confronted with certain groups of people who have united for evil, villainous and deadly behaviors against certain groups of people.

Racism in America is without a doubt a serious threat to our democracy, if it is allowed to continually go unchecked as it is being done. African Americans are the most historically victimized people in America, comparatively speaking from a historical perspective since the slavery era to now.

One has to ask the question “Why has racism and prejudices survived all of these years against African-Americans and others?” In my mind, the true hate filled jealous people who are racists in America have taken the “baton of racism” from their predecessors. Those old racist leaders instructed and trained their descendants and the people under their control, before they died, to continue the disrespect and abuse of those groups of people who they consider to be subhuman and mindless animals.

Viewing the situation from this outlook, racism can clearly be seen as an established organization of hateful people who met often and discussed strategies on how they would continue their domination of Black people.

You would think with the deaths of so many of the former American racists that racism would have ceased to exist.

Sadly, this is not so. I recently received a very racist letter from an anonymous hater. The letter didn’t really bother me, because I have received so many racist hate filled letters over the years. However, what makes me feel good about those letters is the fact that the “fake writers” never put down their names or addresses.

What that says is, “they are scared and weak” just like their KKK idols were back in the day when they attacked Black people with sheets over their heads, late at night. I know this to be true because if they were not cowards, they would let the people know who they really are, after all this is a democracy!

I guess that it’s just wishful thinking on my part to expect this level of behavior. Based on what I’ve seen, this is not going to happen because the Organization Racism is made up of nothing but evil cowards, who would probably commit suicide if their identity is made public.

For the record, I will tell you without a doubt, that a coward racist and his followers will never again dominate African-Americans! The media which I have been a part of for a long time is one of the most effective tools we can use against those that are part of Organization Racism. Remember those racist in hiding are scared of discovery although they are evil, but once you expose them to the public they lose their power.

As long as they (the racists) are operating without the public’s knowledge (in hiding) they will continue their attacks on people. The Organization of American Racism cannot stand up to “We the People” of this Nation. We have the institution of the media on the side of truthful Americans who respect their fellow citizens.

Old School v. New School

I

t seems like we are losing great legends left and right.

Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Prince and now Aretha Franklin. These are just a few of the legends that have set the foundation and paved a way for other singers, rappers, musicians and etc.

Because of their hard work, we were able to listen to music that was entertaining, but yet uplifting, encouraging and inspiring. The beautiful part of their music is that even though they are long gone, their music will live in our hearts forever.

The music today is truly different from what was produced back then. It has made me question “the true definition of an artist.” Many people call themselves an artist, but are they really? This brings me to another question, “What kind of music do you listen to?”

For me, I listen to a little bit of everything. I like gospel, country, R&B, Pop and HipHop. Even though I am diverse in what I listen to, it’s often hard for me to listen to some of the modern music. Music is not what it used to be. It seems anyone can be a singer or rapper, and the music they are producing doesn’t matter. Here are some of my issues with today’s music.

First, a lot of today’s music sounds the same. Instead of focusing on their lyrics, many artists are trying to produce “dance songs,” instead of meaningful music. I’ve listened to a lot of old school songs, and the ma-

jority of them sends some kind of message that listeners could relate to.

Secondly, today’s music is not timeless. Old school music could transcend from generation to generation. I’ve seen millennials and other young people listen to the Temptations, Diana Ross, and many other great singers.

But, I have never witnessed a Baby Boomer or someone from the Greatest Generation listen to Cardi B or 21 Savage. If it’s true music, it will be listened to by all ages long after the originator is gone.

Thirdly, I feel that the message artists are trying to convey is not getting across. I’ve often been told by my parents, “It’s not what you say, but, how you say it.” In a lot of the music today, the lyrics are offensive and are filled with inappropriate language.

Now, some of the old school music has inappropriate language in the lyrics, but it is how it’s said. You can send the same message but in a totally different way. Old school music was more respectful in what it was communicating.

Music is a way I believe we can bring peace throughout the world. It’s also a way to connect with someone else. I often think, who will be considered legends from today’s time? Do we have any? If I’m being honest, no particular artist comes to mind that deserves the title.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are many artists who are making beautiful songs in our society. But overall, the music today is just not what it should be.

Recently for Father’s Day, I bought my dad a record player.

He has so many records from during his time that were just sitting in his closet collecting dust.

A

s a people, Blacks in America have too long looked in the wrong places for answers and solutions to a good deal of the problems and issues we face.

We have tried politics. We have marched and gained civil and voting rights. We have changed Congress to the point that there are more Blacks today in Congress and local government than ever before.

We have increased the number of Black judges. We have had a two-term Black president.

We have rallied and called for equality and justice for all in this country. We have kneeled at sporting events and called for attention to the murdering by law enforcement of Black people at alarming rates. And these are all good, beneficial and positive steps when one considers the mistreatment of Blacks, that we as a people, have and still face as Americans.

We have certainty endured and overcome in this country.

But, really, have the issues of poverty and unemployment, or the lack of jobs for African-Americans been solved?

Has Black on Black crimes and murders in our neighborhoods decreased? Have we unraveled our lack of education and the high school graduation rates of our kids? Or changed the number of single parent fatherless

EDITORIAL & OPINION homes, which is now becoming an epidemic amongst Blacks?

Have we lessened Black prison populations?

I have listened to radio station callers and TV program forums calling for the need for leadership amongst the African-American population. I have heard Sunday morning sermons from the pulpit, from ministers who know and supposedly have the answers that will change the plight of the poor and minorities in this country.

But, when the microphones are turned off, and the lights and cameras have been unplugged, where are the know it alls?

Where are the solution holders and those with all the answers?

When the offering plates have been collected and counted, and the doors of the church are closed and locked until the next Sunday of sermons, where are the preachers?

Dear hearts and particularly lack me - become the leaders that you proclaim, and rightfully so, are so very much needed.... I have heard it said many times, if you don’t vote, don’t complain.

Well brothers, I say to you, to all of us, including me.....’It is time for us as Black men, to step up and step forward to become the leaders and organizers that are so desperately needed in our communities.’

Let us ourselves be more than solution identifiers. Let us come together and take action. We can be a part of our own problem solvers. Can we solve all of our issues and problems? Can we erase injustice and prejudice totally? Maybe not. But, let us not highlight or claim to know a problem and its answers, if you won’t or will not become an active part of the solution!!

As a people, a great deal of our answers are within ourselves....

It is time for us to become active and take action...

We MUST Understand

T

ruly the passing of the legendary, “Queen of Soul” was a major loss to the African-American community.

During the late 60’s many talented Black artists’ produced songs with lyrics that had deep and relevant meanings as it related to the issues we faced.

While many people are more familiar with “Respect” from the 1967 signature hit song by the late Aretha Franklin; the truth is Otis Redding first sung about “Respect” two years prior.

Considering all Black folks faced at that time and all we had overcome, there was still a great deal of disrespect being imposed on our culture. So, to hear people that looked like us telling the world all we were, “asking for was just a little R-E-S-P-EC-T” was enough to drive us all crazy back then. Of course, Franklin’s version of “R-E-SP-E-C-T” was unique as far as the message, but her main thing was, RESPECT. Respect is such a simple word, but the act itself makes it complicated for evil and foolish people to comply with. Growing up, we were taught to give respect to everyone because it was simply a form of common courtesy.

However, as we grew older we learned there are some people you can try your best to re-

spect, but, that same gesture will not be reciprocated. Because while our parents were teaching us to RESPECT EVERYBODY regardless of Color, our counterparts parents’ were teaching them to HATE US just because we didn’t look like them.

Fast forward to today, the same tune is still being sung and Black folks’ plea of asking for a little RESPECT is still being denied. To that regard, I recently ran across a slideshow from www.theblackpeoplematrix. com, which highlighted several instances where Donald Trump has made offensive comments in reference to members of the African-American community.

It recorded Trumps statements as follows, “Africa’s a sh!t hole country; Colin Kaepernick is a son of a b!tch; Maxine Waters is a low I.Q. individual; Don Lemon is the dumbest man on television and making Lebron look smart isn’t easy.”

These were only a few recorded examples of Trump’s blatant disrespect for the African-American culture. However, one of the very first which was highly promoted throughout mainstream media was his constant attacks against former President Barack Obama. Trump relentlessly made a ridiculous fiasco out of President Obama’s rightful citizenship in the U.S. Even after President Obama produced legal documentation which dispelled the false accusations, that still was not good enough for Trump. He was hellbent on destroying the legacy President Obama left. So, here we go again...

At the forefront leading this nation is Donald Trump with his racist viewpoints, declarations, insults and executive orders. We have a man in office who doesn’t respect no damn body, including those around him and closest to him. Therefore, I don’t really

know what to say when it comes to the latest quarrel between he and Omarosa Manigault Newman, his former aide. Omarosa alleges Trump is mental and a racist. True to form, Trump responded to Omarosa on Twitter, calling her, “that dog” and a “crazed, crying lowlife”.

Meanwhile Omarosa has been cashing in on her bestseller, “Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House.” According to the Associated Press, the publication sits at number 3 and has sold 34,000 copies already. Omarosa claims she’s letting it all hang out and telling all of the White House’s dirty little deeds under Trump’s administration.

Be that as it may, I often sit and think about the three forms of government we have in this country, executive, legislative and judicial. Because it is for times like these that the “checks and balance” system was created. It has become clear to the American people that the executive branch has been a lost cause for the majority of this administration.

But, I can’t seem to understand why the legislative and judicial branches are sitting around twiddling their thumbs, while this mad man is destroying the nation piece by piece. It appears that he has Congress in his back pocket because many of them have turned a blind eye to his folly, like it’s just another walk in the park or something.

At the end of the day, it all still boils down to RESPECT though. We MUST Understand respect is a virtue we will not always receive from everyone, but, we must not let it interfere with the way we respect others. I believe that is a rule that should apply to every house, especially the White House. Because once again, all we are asking... is for a little RESPECT! - AANI

When you think of poetry, the idea of candle lights, smooth jazz and intimate ambiences come to mind.

But instead, this Houston-based poetry team uses their way with words to address current and continuously ignored socio-economic issues within the Black society.

GAWD SLAM is a Houston-based poetry slam team dedicated to self-expression and representation of the Black community.

While the idea of a Houston poetry slam team started in 2011 on the precipice of competing on a national level with like-minded people, it was 2016 when the team emerged; inadvertently becoming the voice of a generation whose struggles and fears are televised daily.

Comprised of five young poets eager to have their voice heard, the team came together from various regions of the city ranging from Missouri City to Houston’s North side, all the way to the campus of Texas Southern University.

Vincent “Black Bluez” Johnson founded the group of talented poets and now serves as coach. While creativity and understanding has always been in the forefront of the team dynamic, Johnson understands the burden that comes with spoken word.

“Being an empath is a blessing and a curse”, Johnson said, “cause you carry that emotion with you. It’s like your responsibility for their voice to be heard.”

What brought this team of talented connoisseurs of spoken word together to compete was their common love for shining a light towards the oppression with-

in the Black community through creative punchlines and exciting, thought provoking performances?

The team quickly became a voice for communities riddled with societal injustices; they preached the thoughts, emotions and turmoil that not only their communities experienced consistently, but, also what they personally experience on a day-to-day basis.

As she illuminates the arena with pieces that symbolizes the hardships that Black women endure ranging from the constant recognition of their voluptuous figures, to the lack of support within their own communities. “I

Kodak embodies the lessons his teammates omit but, without letting the age gap affect his perception through wordplay.“It’s a learning process,” Kodak said, “Everything I gained from slamming has changed my personal life.”

This is personified through his work. When he speaks, he takes us to a place of familiarity; almost like a personal memory we never speak on but haunts us for the decisions that we made or didn’t

While the rest of GAWD SLAM were Houston natives, no one understands the difference of representation like Toiryan Milligan. Milligan traveled back and forward from Louisiana to be a part of this prolific team.

Highlighting the family atmosphere within the Lone Star state, Milligan was the last member to join the team.

“They feel like the South doesn’t have anything to say,” Milligan said, “But, I have never been a part of a community that loves and

supports each other as much as this one.”

Because of the different atmosphere surrounding the Black communities within Texas and Louisiana, Milligan uses his balance of both to fuel the initiative of representation not being a singular issue within a specific community; but rather a systematic problem across the board “We gon show the community how to be a community,” Milligan said.

After the competition, GAWD SLAM wanted to focus more on growing the poetic community while continuing to create masterpieces. One plan to do it was fostered in by Andre “Self the Poet” Burrell.

What began as a secluded team of like-minded people, has now evolved into a culture of conscious millennials who prefer messages over partying.

Burrell started a likeminded organization within the hall of his university for young aspiring poets to hone their skills and channel their expressive creativity called, Freeverse. “The best way to provide for someone who does not have a voice is to provide a platform and that’s what we’re doing,” Burrell said.

Along with Kodak, Burrell also has established a home-base with, “Getcha Life Mondays” an open mic night within a new hookah lounge in Third Ward called The Local Seat every Monday.

These safe spaces invite people to experience a different frequency of Houston in a cool, family-like environment.

As injustice continues to surround us, GAWD SLAM can be seen performing on their YOUTUBE channel.

1 Kingdom Radio Talent Showcase

By Arielle Johnson Recently, 1Kingdom Radio took over the Lower Level auditorium of the African-American Museum in Fair Park, Dallas to present an Open Mic. Initially, it seemed as if the show would never start, but low and behold, the talent started to pile in one by one, and before you knew it, the lights dimmed on the audience, while two spotlights found their place on stage.

AX2 and Dejah, a dynamic brother and sister, Christian Hip-Hop group, assumed their spaces in the spotlight and started hosting the show. It is a wonder, how these young people became so skilled at commanding audiences, so effortlessly, at such a young age. They are 13 and 18-years-old respectively.

For the past 4 months, 1 Kingdom Radio has hosted an

Open Mic in Dallas, to showcase up and coming gospel talent in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Steve Donahoo, the Public Relations Manager and Talent Scout for 1 Kingdom Radio says there is an abundance of talent here in our area.

“I have been working with 1Kingdom Radio for over two years now. I realized years ago, their mission is the same as my own, which is to introduce Christ to young people, by building a bridge for youth, from Christian music to new music. The kids in church today, are not into the old type of music.”

Up until last Saturday, previous Open Mics were open to people of all ages, but this one focused on the youth. AX2 and Dejah opened up with a rap song of their own, and broke into fancy dance steps while

they were doing it. Their performance was high energy and signaled to everyone in the audience the show had just begun.

They kept the audience engaged with activities. One young lady was invited on stage to sing, while a few others were invited to show their dancing skills..

The talent showcase was packed with a variety of up and coming young talent - Christian Rappers, a Country Christian guitarist, vocalists and a mime dancer. In fact, one of the Christian Rappers, who goes by the name of Big Ricky Bo Sticky was invited to minister at Canton Jones’ church in Atlanta this past month.

Game Changers, which is a part of 1Kingdom Radio has been conducting concert tours in different areas of the country to help give new artists exposure outside of the areas they

With the boys and young men, we teach them what it takes to be a man, and the responsibilities that go along with it. We are providing them with another male figure, outside of the home that they can look

Legacy School for Sports and Science is a first of its kind in the Houston area, founded by Kerrie Patterson-Brown and her husband Reggie Brown, both who are athletes themselves. Kerrie is a Jack Yates alumni who played basketball, volleyball and softball.

In 1995, she was a bluechip athlete who was ranked one of the top females in the state. She was also the MVP for Houston’s Jack Yates high school in softball and volleyball. She went on to Texas A&M University to play basketball where she started and helped lead the team to a top 20 ranking and winning the last Southwest conference tournament.

After playing for Texas A&M she became an assistant coach there for three seasons, where she helped turn the institution into a powerhouse in “The Big 12�. She took the head coaching job at Huston - Tillotson University in Austin. She was also assistant athletic director and an instructor. She was there for nine seasons with seven seasons making it to the playoffs.

Upon leaving Huston Tillotson she returned home to become an assistant coach at Texas Southern University.

After her stint at TSU she and her college sweetheart Reggie, discovered a way to keep kids focused and involved in sports in every aspect of each and every sport by incepting the only school of its kind in the state of Texas, Legacy School of Sports and Science.

Reggie Brown who grew up in Austin and played football at Reagan High School went on to Texas A&M to play

linebacker and to meet his sweetheart Kerrie Patterson who he married.

Reggie was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft with the 17th pick by the Detroit Lions in 1996. He was hurt in the last game of the 96th season with a spinal contusion which was his last NFL game. Now he and his wife are currently operating at Legacy School of Sports and Science which officially launced on August 20, in

real world problems.

Legacy will also have a college credit program that is designed to provide students with an opportunity to earn either an associate’s degree or up to 60 college credit hours, paired with a high school diploma. Students will be trained and coached by former collegiate and professional athletes, in addition to learning about the profession in sports; all while building an extensive network in the

Spring.

The school is located at 2727 Spring Creek Dr., 77373. It was designed to help student athletes focus on the professionalism of sports within athletics.

Legacy will be a traumatic learning environment tied together with project-based learning; which will create a curriculum focused on specific areas, including: athletic administration, coaching and sports media. Sports medicine students will see and learn about the connection between education, athletics, science and business. This will enhance the student’s ability to explore and solve

athletic industry.

Legacy is an accredited-state charter school of the state of Texas. Legacy is a school for all, not just one ethnic background or religion. Although the school will be a big asset for the Black community, it will teach our kids to think bigger than just playing sports, becoming a rapper, or the next viral star.

There is an even bigger picture for our kids to explore.

Now let’s get involved and help make Legacy School of Sports and Science a success and a fixture for our kids to be groomed and successful no matter what part of sport they - AANI choose.

Sugar Land African Burial Ground: An American Story Then and Now

In April of 2018 information began to be made public that an African Burial Ground dating from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s was “discovered” on a school construction site of Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD).

By mid-July FBISD announced that 95 intact graves of Africans in America had been unearthed, victims of crimes against humanity in what was known as the convict lease system or slavery by another name.

The unholy alliance between the State of Texas and Imperial Sugar Company along with the free labor of enslaved Africans literally laid the foundation for the upscale suburb of Houston, titled Sugar Land. For the National Black United Front (NBUF), other formations and anyone with a basic understanding of American history the “discovery” comes as no surprise.

Mr. Reginald Moore a lay historian known throughout activist circles in the area has been telling anyone who would listen for decades that these forgotten and tortured souls existed. “Sugarland got a dirty little secret and it ain’t so sweet” is one of his common refrains.

Further, in 2001 NBUF researcher Omowale Haggerty an east Texas native revealed through his work, the bloody history of Imperial Sugar Company as a part of the international movement for reparations.

finds its antecedents in the history being revealed by the unearthing of the Holy Egungun (Ancestors) at the African Burial Ground in Sugar Land. FBISD is currently under fire for a recent report that shows African-American children in its district are six times more likely than other students to receive disciplinary measures.

At the same time the school district, city of Sugar Land, Imperial Sugar Company and the State of Texas is attempting to damage control the historic find that reveals its terroristic past.

“The find in Sugar Land is not really rare, when you think about how this country was built off our free labor during enslavement and convict, concentration camp labor our ancestral remains are throughout this country, what is rare about Sugarland is that it is preserved and being widely publicized. How many cemeteries do you think are just being bulldozed over in the name of development?”

These were the comments of Ray Winbush, PhD Morgan State University, Baltimore Maryland.

NBUF along with activists, African spiritualists and expert allies in the past month has engaged in a series of

activities including: ancestral veneration rituals, meetings with officials, site tour, research and community forums.

This work has produced the following list of concerns and demands in respect to the African Burial Ground in Sugar Land. ● Intellectual Control should be transferred to properly credentialed and experience scholars of African ancestry. ● Use the existing African-American historic context document for this project. ● Robust Descendant Community Engagement including proper DNA testing, consultation with interested parties and comprehensive burial plan. ● Establishment of Convict Lease Museum paid for in part by the State of Texas and The Imperial Sugar Company. ● Full and Complete Reparations for descendant community. ● Systematic dismantling of current race and class based “criminal justice system” in the state of Texas. Invest resources in prevention oriented programming.

It would be a grave mistake not to understand that the African Burial Ground in Sugar Land, Texas is not just story about the past but about the present also.

Stroke-Free Zone Health Fair

Mayor David Allen, city of Prairie View, home of Prairie View A&M University, has set a standard to bring attention to the health and welfare of his administration and the citizens of Prairie View. Mayor Allen took a bold step introducing a Stroke-Free Zone Health Fair to Prairie View after listening to several presentations regarding stress and strokes in the African-American community.

The information he received was given at a World Conference of Mayors meeting in Los Angeles and then again in Atlanta, GA at Morehouse School of Medicine.

After listening to the statistics on strokes and stress-related medical condition given

by Mr. Ivan Sims, founder of Stroke Free Zone, a non-profit organization, Mayor Allen focused on the positives of what would be best for his city.

Mayor Allen contacted Mr. Sims who shared additional and necessary information on strokes, stroke screening and its benefits. Some general information shared: 1) 795,000 stroke occurrences in U.S. annually, 2) 450,000 stroke occurrences in U.S. women annually, 3) 610,000 first timers 185,000 re-occurrences annually, 4) Half of all African-American deaths are caused by complication of cardiovascular disease which can be associated with stroke related problems.

“I’ve performed over 60,000 vascular studies during my 38-year career as a non-invasive medical imaging Sonographer” said Mr. Sims.

“My findings over the years have assisted doctors in determining a diagnosis for their patient. Patients or patrons who have diabetes sometimes

present equivocal results due to early disease of artery wall tissue scaring.

Preventive health screening is a valuable tool that will assist your doctor. Candidates for early detection screening have a broad range. Diabetics and those with cardiovascular issues appear to have the highest risk of suffering a debilitating stroke.”

Mayor Allen, after gathering the facts, made a calculated decision to put together a fair that will serve as a model to the city of Prairie View for

• Two out of five African-American men have high blood pressure —a main risk factor for stroke. High blood pressure often starts at a younger age and is more severe in African-American men than in White men.

• People with Diabetes are at higher risk of stroke. One out of seven African-American men has been diagnosed with diabetes; and many more have the disease but do not know it.

• Sickle cell anemia is the most common genetic disorder in African-Americans and can lead to a stroke.

• Smoking doubles the risk of stroke. About one out of five African-American men smokes cigarettes.

• Being overweight or obese increases your risk of stroke.

• Eating too much salt, or sodium, can raise your blood pressure, putting you at higher risk of stroke.

The Underlying Plot to Destroy HISD

They call them a democratically-elected board. I call them the shadiest school board in the country. With the current board of trustees it’s not about children. It’s all about the money.

Month after month I sit in public board meetings watching the likes of Anne Sung, Holly Viiliseca, Diana Davilla and Elizabeth Santos, undermine the current administration.

First of all, all four have done things that are not reflective of a trustee that gives a dam about students. Most Trustees like the ones I named really feel they are very important political figures. Yet, if they woke up and smelled the coffee they would know they are truly at the bottom of the barrel.

Because they can never seem to get over the “fat boy� syndrome, and get their hands out

of the cookie jar with vendors, they have eroded their own power base. So, most politicians consider them a joke.

One even told me, the circus came to town and forgot the HISD clowns when they left. Now, that I truly believe. I can always count on inconsistencies from The Black board members. They make the same mistakes over and over. But, the new ones are not mentally equipped to handle the day to day of being a trustee.

Santos is either the biggest hero we have ever seen, or, she is the biggest liar. Her monthly attacks on Interim Super Grenita Lathan are borderline comical. Her inability to put together a complete sentence, leads me to believe, she can’t read her phone texts right, while speaking in a public forum.

For, me I believe maybe someone is telling her what she needs to do at all times. And, word on the street is she was a not so good teacher. She lacks knowledge in dealing with district finances. She also lacks the knowledge to handle governance. She is realistically a joke.

But, when your mentors are Carol Alvarado and Sylvia Garcia, I guess you get passes. But, once you make a decision that affects Black children, you now become fair game.

Example, when she spearheaded a vote to close Kandy Strip Academy. That wasn’t about accountability. That was a power move. To show the “Head Negro In Charge� you wanted her power. When Santos, publicly called for President Rhonda Skillern Jones to step down; that wasn’t about what was right or wrong. That was strictly a grand standing move.

Keeping our Children Digitally Safe

By Carol Vaughn With the increase in cyberbullying, parents worry about the safety of their children in the digital world. Technology and digital devices are ingrained in our children’s daily lives from an early age.

David McGeary, curriculum director for Digital Education and Innovation at Harris County Department of Education, provides safety tips to help keep children from harm and be good digital citizens.

1.Talk to kids about digital safety at a young age and do it often.

The Department of Homeland Security publicizes its “See Something, Say Something� initiative. Not only is it a good practice to follow this advice for personal safety, a student’s report could save lives of others through conscientious sharing of information.

2. Be a part of your children’s online experiences.

Know the sites they visit and games they play.

Research shows that kids ages 12-17 are increasingly aware of the disparity between the “perfect life� that they see others share online and the “real life� they experience every day. Parents should work to remind their kids that social media is often a reflection of a person’s best experiences, but it does not represent the whole person.

3. Don’t allow young children to spend unsupervised time online.

Keep the family computer in a common area in the home. Keep charging devices out of private areas like bedrooms.

4. Enforce this rule: If you won’t do something face-toface, don’t do it online.

Research shows that victims of cyberbullying have often bul-

lied someone online themselves.

By humanizing the online space and developing empathy for others, parents can help their children break the cycle of victim-and-victimization.

5. Humanize online social interactions. Remind them that behind every pixelated avatar is a human being.

When kids begin to get more active on social media, help them to use social media in a healthy way. Encourage them to share snaps of things that they are interested in or Instagram posts of cool experiences they have. Help kids to share the best versions of themselves online so they may be better positioned for a life outside of school once they graduate.

When you already knew there was no one going to call a vote to remove Rhonda, it’s called grand standing. And lastly, calling a press conference for teacher step raises, when you never mentioned them in any budget meeting for over six-months. Once again, it’s called grand standing.

Santos reminds me of the house Negro in the old slave days. She will do anything the master trustee Diana Davilla says. She is truly a House Latino.

But, her attack on Black children and their public education has been exposed.

She won’t be here long. She will vacate her trustee seat and run for a bigger office.

Trust me, I’ve seen it before.

Finally, she says she stands for teachers and students. Maybe she does as long as they are not Black.

At the press conference at Worthing High School Miss Santos was a no-show. On the Flowers for All Occasions

biggest day in HISD history, Santos failed to show up to congratulate those hard working children at Worthing and those hard working underpaid teachers for passing the Starr.

She has yet to even say thank you, for a job well done to Interim Superintendent, Dr. Lathan. I guess they were the wrong shade of Brown. Standing with Santos is like standing with ICE. She will back door you in a heartbeat.

So the only thing left for her to do is burn a cross in the front yards of every Black school in town. Bottom line, most have figured her out. I for one have.

Keep your eyes on The Grand Wizard of the Education Klan.

I promise she will continue to masquerade as the savior Trustee. But, at the end of the day Jesus had Judas; the kids and teachers of HISD have, Elizabeth Santos.
