From trauma to turmoil — to Jesus!

Susan of South Sudan has experienced a lot of trauma in her 24 years — war, poverty and unimaginable degradation.

“My childhood was especially difficult in the rural village where I grew up,” she said.

Believing a big city was a better place to live, Susan worked very hard in primary school to secure a place in the city for secondary school.

Life in the city brings a different kind of trauma

“It was a shock to me when I first came to Juba city to join secondary school,” she said.

“The extreme poverty in the city traumatized me,” she said. “My relatives, whom I lived with, struggled financially. We could hardly get food and other basic needs. But worst of all, my friends almost lured me into commercial sex work to help generate income.”
