Grand Park Sports Campus is the cornerstone of our strategy to make Westfield a premier destination for youth sports and families, hopefully one day to be called “Family Sports Capital of America.” The park continues to exceed attendance projections and its economic impact is benefitting many local businesses.

Westfield made headlines earlier this year when the Indianapolis Colts announced Grand Park would be home to the Colts Training Camp for the next 10 years. As a city, we hope to promote a spirit of hospitality and provide the best training camp experience. We look forward to welcoming the team and all Colts fans.

The 400-acre sports campus features a full range of championship-level outdoor facilities for baseball, softball and field sports including soccer, football, field hockey and lacrosse. The Grand Park Events Center, our indoor sports facility and convention space, also allows us to accommodate year-round play and corporate events. Future development around the campus will feature dining, retail and entertainment venues geared toward supporting and enhancing the family sports atmosphere.

Westfield has been named one of the “Top Ten Places to Raise a Family” by Family Circle Magazine and has consistently been recognized as one of the best places to live in Indiana and the country. We certainly agree!

The Monon Trail, Indy’s most popular running and biking path, also connects Westfield to downtown Indianapolis and will eventually extend along the east side of Grand Park.

The city operates 10 parks throughout the community, including a splash park at Quaker Park, located just south of IN-32 on Dartown Road, and the beautifully wooded Asa Bales Park just north of downtown.

he Grand Park Events Center opened in the summer of 2016 as a centerpiece of the 400-acre Grand Park Sports Campus. The 370,000 square foot facility features three full-sized professional turf fields. Food and beverage services are also available in onsite restaurant, spectator lounge and viewing suites.

Originally constructed for field sports (soccer, football, rugby, field hockey and lacrosse), recently added hard surface flooring also allows the option for basketball, volleyball, futsal and consumer shows.

The first floor offers concessions with food court options coming soon. Or take in the view from the second floor lounge restaurant offering American fare and overlooking the center field. Group dining is also available in the private viewing suites.

A WESTFIELD PILLAR CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF HOMERUNS

oundTripper Sports Academy Inc. opened its doors in 1993, with a vision to become the premiere baseball training facility in the Midwest. Twenty-five years later, they have become a mainstay for elite athletes throughout the Midwest and Central Indiana.

“As a professional scout RoundTripper has given me the opportunity to engage with players at all levels of the game,” said Kevin Christman, a veteran MLB scout for 3x World Series Champions San Francisco Giants.

“RoundTripper, Chris Estep, and his staff have also made a profound impact on myself and my family, as a supporting parent of two Division 1 baseball players.”

Catering to teams ranging from 8 to 18 years old, RoundTripper will host more than 500 teams and 20,000 visitors in 2018. Due to its close proximity to Grand Park, many visiting teams utilize RoundTripper for pregame workouts and the use of interactive technology, HitTrax.

RoundTripper is excited to grow another 25 years alongside Grand Park. Blake Hibler, Director of Bullpen Tournaments at Grand Park and PBR Scouting Director is counted among its esteemed alumni.

N

ow visitors to Grand Park can access high-quality sports medicine offerings without leaving the sports campus. As the official sports medicine provider, Methodist Sports Medicine provides medical staff for all sporting events onsite and also operates a permanent clinic for athletes and patients on the second floor of the Grand Park Events Center.

The 2,500-square-foot facility is staffed by athletic trainers, physical therapists, a chiropractor and an orthopedic doctor.

The clinic has X-ray capability and also sells durable medical equipment (DME) including crutches and braces.

SAFETY A TOP PRIORITY AT GRAND PARK

Grand Park Staff trained in CPR and use of AEDs Within the sports campus, Grand Park maintains 14 AEDs and provides training for park staff and support staff on how to administer CPR and use the AEDs in the event of a cardiac emergency.

According to the American Red Cross, all Americans should be within four minutes of an AED and someone trained to use it. The Red Cross estimates that improved training and access to AEDs could save 50,000 lives each year.

At Grand Park, the importance of having onsite AEDs was on display in May 2016

when a 13-year-old boy playing in a baseball game was struck in the chest by the ball, causing his heart to stop.

Bystanders rushed to his aid to administer CPR and used the AED from one of the concession stands, which contributed to saving his life.

“As a premier destination for youth sports, we place safety at the forefront,” said Westfield Mayor Andy Cook. “The investment in onsite AEDs and the continued training of our staff and partner organizations further reinforces that commitment.”

rand Park will soon have more indoor sport options with the addition of Pro X multisport training facility on campus. Former Major League player, Joe Thatcher, is the founder and owner of Pro X, which will offer physical training and rehabilitation for athletes of any sport. Sport-specific instruction will be offered for baseball, football, golf and track and field.

Bullpen Tournaments and Methodist Sports Medicine are partnering with Renderings of Pro X on the endeavor.

When completed, the 65,000 square

foot facility will be geared toward a wide range of athletes from those participating in youth sports to professionals. In addition to a large open turf area, the facility will have a state-of-the-art weight room, golf simulators, batting cages, viewing mezzanine and office space. Target opening date will be fall 2018.

The outdoor baseball facilities are also getting an upgrade with Bullpen Tournaments investing $2.5 million to convert all the diamonds to synthetic turf. This will maximize playing time and minimize disruption due to weather events.
