CCA members know how challenging it is to stay on top of everything we might like to consider, and this FYC Showcase helps the members see what many of the studios and networks are most proud of this year.

The follow-up to Rian Johnson’s 2019 film Knives Out, Detective Benoit Blanc travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects.

STORYLINE/PLOT SUMMARY: Benoit Blanc returns to peel back the layers in a new Rian Johnson whodunit. This fresh adventure finds the intrepid detective at a lavish private estate on a Greek island, but how and why he comes to be there is only the first of many puzzles. After discovering a once-in-a-lifetime player with a rocky past abroad, a down on his luck basketball scout takes it upon himself to bring the phenom to the States without his team’s approval. Against the odds, they have one final shot to prove they have what it takes to make it in the NBA. STORYLINE/PLOT SUMMARY: Stanley Sugerman, a jaded international NBA scout, lives life on the road searching for future stars. While he is liked

by Philadelphia 76ers owner Rex Merrick, he clashes with Rex’s son Vincent. Rex promotes Stanley to assistant coach. The same evening, however, Rex dies, leaving Vincent in charge. Three months later, Vincent demotes Stanley again to scout, sending him overseas to find a new star. In Spain, Stanley watches a local pick-up game and is stunned by an incredibly talented unknown player, Bo Cruz. Stanley urges the 76ers front office to sign him, but Vincent is unconvinced. Taking matters into his own hands, Stanley pays to bring Cruz to the US. He takes Bo to play at a showcase and later to the NBA combine.

Bo shows flashes of talent, but struggles at guarding top prospect Kermit Wilts, who trash talks him and throws him off his game. A private game is set for players and front office members. Playing without pressure, Cruz finally locks down Wilt. Rex’s daughter Kat reveals she is taking over from Vincent and rehires Stanley as an assistant coach. Five months later, the 76ers and Boston Celtics tip off for a game with Stanley now the assistant coach of the 76ers, and Bo playing for the Boston Celtics.

Marrying Sir Clifford Chatterley, Connie’s life of wealth and privilege seems set as she takes the title of Lady Chatterley.

Yet this idealistic union gradually becomes an incarceration when Clifford returns from the First World War with injuries that have left him paralyzed. When she meets and falls for Oliver Mellors, the gamekeeper on the Chatterley family estate, their secret trysts lead her to a sensual, sexual awakening.

STORYLINE/PLOT SUMMARY: In blissful happiness, Sir Clifford Chatterley weds Connie – now to become Lady Chatterley. But with England still embroiled in the First World War, Clifford must go back to the front. When he returns, he and Connie move to his family’s estate in Wragby in the Midlands.

But Clifford has suffered greatly, sustaining brutal injuries that leave him paralyzed. At first, Clifford faces his new life positively, looking to restore the woodlands in Wragby’s sprawling grounds. New staff are hired, including gamekeeper Oliver Mellors. Yet as Connie expresses a desire for freedom, even to take simple walks, Clifford’s dependance on her grows and his demeanor changes. Unable to fulfill her sexual needs, he suggests that Connie find someone to give her a baby whom he can raise as his own. She’s left shocked. When Connie’s sister Hilda visits to discover that her sibling’s health is failing from Clifford’s demanding needs, she demands that Connie no longer be Clifford’s primary caregiver. As Connie’s health restores, she befriends Mellors. Their friendship becomes more intense, feelings overflow and they consummate their relationship. Mellors suggests it would be damaging for Connie if others found out, but consumed by love and lust, she continues.

STORYLINE/PLOT SUMMARY: From the biggest global animated franchise in history comes “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” the origin story of how the world’s greatest supervlllain first met his iconic Minions, forged cinema’s most despicable crew and faced off against the most unstoppable criminal force ever assembled. Long before he becomes the master of evil, Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) is just a 11 3/4 -year-old boy in 1970s suburbia, plotting to take over the world from his basement. STORYLINE/PLOT SUMMARY: In a world very much like our own, enormous sea monsters terrorize defenseless ships. But brave sea monster hunters set sail to protect the innocent — they are the celebrated heroes of their time. The greatest of the hunting ships is the Inevitable, captained by the legendary Captain Crow. His surrogate son, Jacob Holland, is a beloved hero, willing to risk everything to keep people safe. When the King and Queen implore them to chase down the most fearsome of the sea beasts, the Red Bluster, they embark on their most dangerous mission yet.

But things become complicated when a young child, Maisie Brumble, stows away on their ship! She has dreams of becoming a legendary monster hunter, but quickly becomes a thorn in Jacob’s side. Unable to turn back, Maisie becomes a witness to history as the crew of the Inevitable prepares to take on the greatest of all beasts.
