This annual workshop, a cornerstone of the fraternity's commitment to grooming its future leaders, saw a remarkable turnout of dedicated brothers from across the province. From enlightening sessions on financial stewardship to inspiring words from esteemed speakers, this year's workshop was a resounding success.

The essence of the Eastern Province Workshop lies in its mission to equip incoming chapter officers with the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to excel in their new roles. In the heart of Alexandria-Fairfax, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity brought the community together for a night to remember. On June 24th, 2023, the AlexandriaFairfax Alumni Chapter hosted their annual "Function," an outdoor fundraising event that fused the spirit of celebration with a deep commitment to educational empowerment. Underneath the clear sky, attendees were treated to an unforgettable evening featuring food trucks, merchandise vendors, champagne, hookah service, and the electrifying live performance by DC's very own Future Band, one of the hottest GoGo bands in the DMV.

I Beyond the revelry, the purpose of this gathering was to honor the recently passed Juneteenth holiday and, most importantly, to raise funds for the Alexandria-Fairfax Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund. As the echoes of music and laughter filled the night, the Alexandria-Fairfax Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi demonstrated that they can groove to the rhythm of giving back.

On October 8th, 2023, an air of excitement and anticipation filled the air as the Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni chapter hosted a reception to celebrate the appointment of Eastern Province Polemarch, Brother Richard Mattox. This milestone event served not only as a recognition of Mattox's dedication but also as an opportunity to unveil his vision for the Eastern Province of Kappa Alpha Psi, illuminating a path toward social justice, community engagement, and empowered leadership.

A Night of Celebration and Reflection The celebration brought together brothers from across the Eastern Province, a testament to the unity that binds this esteemed fraternity. Brother Mattox, who had previously served as Province Vice Polemarch and as the former Polemarch of the Alexandria-Fairfax Alumni Chapter, was welcomed with open arms and exuberant applause.

Brother Mattox's heartfelt speech resonated deeply with the audience, focusing on the critical issues of gun violence, social justice, and crime that plague our communities and affect our youth.

He stressed the obligation of the Divine 9 to be proactive in addressing these problems at the grassroots level. "As black men, it is our responsibility to take care of the next generation and guide them on the right path," he declared.

A Journey of Commitment Mattox's journey to his current role began with a profound commitment to serve at various levels. He had chaired multiple committees at the chapter level and served as the Polemarch for the Alexandria-Fairfax Alumni Chapter. These experiences inspired him to seek higher office, with a desire to make a transformative and lasting impact on the organization."I've always felt a strong sense of responsibility to serve our community and uplift our fraternity. This journey started as a personal commitment, and it has grown into a profound desire to make a lasting impact," Mattox explained.

Primary Goals and Objectives As Eastern Province Polemarch, Mattox sees altruism, brotherhood, and leadership as the cornerstones of his service. He intends to champion social justice, leveraging the influence of the Divine 9 to shape the future of at-risk youth. He also aims to expand the Young Brothers Committee (YBC) concept across the Eastern Province, bridging the gap for undergraduate brothers transitioning to Alumni Chapters and providing leadership training opportunities. "Our primary goals revolve around making a positive impact on our communities, especially for our youth.

We must proactively address social justice issues, empower our younger brothers, and foster an environment of mentorship and growth," Mattox affirmed.

Strengthening Brotherhood Bonds Mattox is passionate about recognizing the unique skills, talents, and affinities of his fellow brothers and creating opportunities for like-minded individuals to connect. He envisions building strong bonds of brotherhood within the fraternity and expanding relationships across the Divine 9. "The bonds of brotherhood are the backbone of our fraternity. We must strengthen these bonds by recognizing and celebrating the unique talents and experiences each brother brings to the table. Together, we are a force for positive change," Mattox emphasized.

Empowering the Next Generation Empowering young members is central to Mattox's vision. The YBC concept, which attracts young brothers with the skills needed by the fraternity, will be pivotal in this endeavor. Young brothers will be engaged in chapters and the province, especially in areas related to technology, as they contribute to the fraternity's goals."Our younger brothers are the future of our fraternity. We must provide them with the tools, mentorship, and opportunities to lead effectively. Technology plays a crucial role in our world today, and our young brothers will be at the forefront of harnessing its power for the betterment of our communities," Mattox stated.

Positive Impact on Communities The Eastern Province, with its presence in the nation's capital, offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on local, national, and global communities. Mattox's vision includes extending the fraternity's reach within the Divine 9, further growing its brand, and contributing to positive change. "The Eastern Province is a place of great influence. Our position here allows us to have a meaningful impact on our communities. We aim to extend our reach, build bridges with other Divine 9 organizations, and make a difference on local, national, and global scales," Mattox articulated.

A Message of Inspiration In closing, Brother Mattox left a resounding message of inspiration for the members of the Eastern Province and the broader Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity: "There are no boundaries to our potential as men of Kappa, and as such, there are no boundaries to the Eastern Province for our brothers. Every brother has open access because we want to bring out the very best in our fraternity. 'They live well who live for something that outlasts themselves.'

The Fathers Initiative is a support movement created to bring brothers together who are planning on becoming fathers, who are currently in their fatherhood walk, or who have any experience in the fatherhood spectrum to share their intellectual equity through organic conversation. It serves as a platform for open discussions on a wide range of topics surrounding modern fatherhood offering a space for healing, sharing experiences, and nurturing growth.

Creating a Community of Support In the age of information, there is a wealth of resources that can help individuals understand their experiences, mindset, upbringing, and personal healing. The Alexandria-Fairfax Alumni Chapter recognizes the importance of harnessing this wealth of information to support Black fathers on their journey. The primary goal of the Fathers Initiative is to build a community where brothers can exchange experiences, viewpoints, perspectives, and wisdom.

Through these dialogues, they aim to collectively evolve into better fathers. As the initiative gains momentum, the vision is to expand its reach, to the provincial level and beyond, involving the broader Fraternity. The ultimate goal is to create a network that nurtures and supports Black fathers in every corner of the Kappa Alpha Psi brotherhood.

In the heart of Alexandria-Fairfax (VA), a group of dedicated individuals and a thriving community of young leaders are creating ripples of change and empowerment. The Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter's Guide Right and Kappa League programs have reached new heights, garnering recognition and accolades for their unwavering commitment to nurturing the potential of our future leaders.

This past summer at the 86th Conclave, the Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Guide Right/Kappa League Program received multiple prestigious awards, a testament to their dedication and hard work. The Grand Board honored them with the Jay Crosby Silver Award for the most outstanding Guide Right Program.

Additionally, the program earned the Social Action Community Service Award 3rd Place, led by Kappa Leaguer Brendan Galloway as the Project Manager, with the active participation of Kappa League Team members Preston Reston, Landon Banks, and Myles.

Highlighting the exceptional talents nurtured within the program, Kappa Leaguer Ayden Laster was awarded the National Student of The Year. Furthermore, the Guide Right Program received recognition with the Mentor of The Year title, an acknowledgment of the exceptional guidance provided by Brother Ken Bynum.

Championing Youth Development and Community Service As another year unfolds, the Guide Right program embarks on its mission of supporting and empowering the youth in the community. This initiative goes beyond academic encouragement and career guidance; it's about fostering constructive community services and creating well-rounded individuals.

Growing Future Leaders In a bid to promote educational, occupational, and social guidance, the Guide Right Program is set to induct an impressive record number of 35 new Kappa Leaguers in November. This remarkable feat illustrates the growing demand for programs that nurture young talent and character.

Mentors and Leaders Making a Difference The success of these programs wouldn't be possible without the dedicated mentors and leaders who consistently invest their time and effort into the development of these young men. Brothers Ted Brown, Brandyn Marshall, and Mike Lewis have been unwavering in their roles as mentors, standing by the Kappa Leaguers year after year. Brother Ken Bynum, Neicko Williams, and Brother Polmarch Kendall White have raised the bar in aviation education experiences for the youth.

Brothers Vince Jones, General James Benson, and Michael Smith have been relentless in their weekly interactions with the youth at Woodley Hills Elementary Woodley Hill Gents Program. Not to be forgotten are Brother Jared Hennings and Ted Brown, who have breathed new life into the Lego Robotic Program, elevating it to a competitive level.
