The Maputo Accord was launched in September 2015 at the AFI Global Policy Forum in Mozambique, where member institutions pledged to support access to finance for SMEs.
In September 2021 at the AFI Annual General Meeting, member institutions convened virtually and updated the Maputo Accord on commitments to SMEs finance as a pathway to greater financial inclusion.
The Maputo Accord reaffirms the AFI network's commitment of putting in place a financial inclusion policy that creates an enabling environment for cost effective access to financial services that makes full use of appropriate innovative technology and substantially lowers the unit cost of financial services.
