FOREWORD 前言 The Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau is proud to support this year again the Hong Kong French Film Festival. The oldest film festival in Hong Kong, French Cinepanorama has not lost one bit of its vitality and will showcase the best of French culture and cinema for this 53rd edition!

The Hong Kong French Film Festival presented by Alliance Française is the oldest cinema festival in town. It has been running since 1972 without interruption. This new edition of the Festival, the 53 rd, celebrates the HK audience’s love for the French seventh art.

This edition’s programme includes more than 50 movies reflecting the remarkable range and diversity of French cinema. Filmgoers will be able to marvel at the epic scope of "The Count of Monte Cristo", laugh with the social comedies "Lucky Winners" and "A Little Something Extra" or appreciate the brilliance of world renowned French artists thanks to "Saint Ex". A retrospective will also celebrate one of the most appreciated directors in the world, the master of the French New Wave, François Truffaut. Lastly, we could not miss to pay tribute to one of the greatest French stars, the charismatic Alain Delon, with two of his most celebrated works.

Our teams have prepared an exciting program for the movie fans of Hong Kong in 2024 with a number of special events and cinema talents visiting Hong Kong as a highlight.

As a preview during this year’s festival, you will also be able to discover "Being Maria", "Flow" and "Dog on Trial", which will later be released widely in Hong Kong thanks to the support of First Distribution, Edko and A Really Good Film.

After the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Hong Kong French Film Festival will be another occasion for filmgoers in Hong Kong to appreciate France’s unique know-how in arts and culture!

This year’s selection is a mix between a large 2024-film selection, with films only recently or not even released yet in France - and retrospectives on François Truffaut and Alain Delon as a highlight.

We also propose this year, a special section dedicated to Design in films. It will go along the Design December events in Hong Kong for which France is the guest country.

In all, there will be more than 50 films: 30 of the year, 11 of retrospective and 6 for Design.

This will offer a spectacular firework of French cinema in Hong Kong during the 3 weeks of our festival!

由香港法國文化協會主辦的香港法國電影節是本地歷史最 悠久的電影節。自 1972 年起便從無間斷地每年定期舉辦。 今年新一屆，第五十三屆是要向香港觀衆熱愛的法國第七 藝術致敬。

GUESTS OF HONOUR 電影節嘉賓 Franck Dubosc is a French comedian, scriptwriter, actor, and director. He has established himself as one of France's most prominent comedians by starring in the comedy "Camping", directed by Fabien Onteniente in 2006, which had several sequels. He has also directed several comedies, including "Rolling to You" (2018) and "How to Make A Killing" (2024), both of which will be screened at the festival.

Camille Razat is a French actress and model who rose to fame for her role as Camille in the American series "Emily in Paris". in 2022, she established her own production company, TAZAR PRODUCTIONS. She stars in the film "Prodigies' alongside Mélanie Robert.

Antoine Chevrollier is a French filmmaker known for directing the series "The Bureau" and "Le Baron Noir". His first film, "Block Pass", was shot in his childhood hometown of LonguéJumelles and was selected for the Critics' Week program at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. French humorist Artus’ first film has surpassed 10 million admissions in cinemas! This French comedy that features non-professional actors with disabilities laughs with disabled people, and not at their expense. It tells the story of a father and his son who, to escape the police, find refuge in a summer camp for young adults with disabilities, posing as a resident and his educator. The beginning of trouble and a wonderful human experience that will change them forever.

The plot is based on a true story told by criminal lawyer Jean-Yves Moyart, in his book "Au guet-apens" : Maître Jean Monier hasn't taken on any criminal cases since he cleared a recidivist murderer. A meeting with Nicolas Milik, a father accused of murdering his wife, touches him and shakes his certainty.

Convinced of his client's innocence, he is ready to do anything to defend him against all odds, and especially against himself.

A beautiful coming-of-age story about love, youth, and friendship. August 1992, in a lost valley to the east, two idle cousins live in a deindustrialized town. One hot afternoon, as they steal a canoe to paddle to the other side of a lake, Anthony meets Stéphanie and immediately falls in love. That night, he secretly borrows his father's motorcycle to go to a party where he hopes to find her. The next morning, when he realises that the bike is gone, his life is turned upside down.

During a heat wave in Marseille, three roomates are confined in their apartment. From the balcony, they look out at their mysterious neighbour, about whom they indulge in all sorts of fantasies. However, late into the night, an ordinary conflict turns into a bloodbath. They find themselves trapped in a terrifying and delirious affair, with their freedom their only quest. A group of friends, who met on a holiday organised in Africa, gathered in the mountains during winter for a week of relaxation. Some are there for sports, others for romance, but it's not always the best option. This iconic French comedy, which is a real winter classic, is being broadcasted as a tribute to actor Michel Blanc, who passed away in October 2024. Join them for laughter and warmth as their adventures unfold against a snowy backdrop.

At the campsite Blue Waves, people arrive from all over France. Like every year, this is the time of reunion around a drink customary for regulars. Except this year, Mister Pic does not have his location number 17, Gatineau are tent apart, and Patrick Chirac, the playboy of Dijon, is dumped by his wife. It is in this camping that Michel Saint Josse, great cosmetic surgeon in Paris, is found in spite of himself to undergo existential problems of a previously unknown species of him: the camper.

During the French Revolution, Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette were accused of conspiring with foreign powers against the Revolution. The monarchy was abolished, and Louis XVI was sentenced to death and guillotined on January 21, 1793. Marie Antoinette was tried and executed a few months later. Less well known is the fact that they were imprisoned in the Tour du Temple for a few months while awaiting death. The film recounts the drama of this wait and the fall of the royal family.

Based on true events. Julien is a secondary school teacher. Young and determined, he tries to create a bond with his class by taking a few students under his wing, including the shy Leslie. The literature teacher is wrongfully accused of sexual misconduct by a teenage girl from his class. He has to face the allegations as the situation spreads to a spiral out of control.

The film is based on Pierre Bailly's novel which recounts the ups and downs of fatherhood and questions the structure of the family unit.

Aymeric, Jim's stepfather, met Florence, his mother, when she was six months pregnant.

The three of them lead a happy life in the Jura region until the biological father, Christophe, returns following a personal tragedy. Aymeric felt out of place and, estranged from his child, decided to make a life for himself elsewhere.

Acclaimed orchestra conductor Thibaut has leukaemia and needs a bone marrow donor.

Learning he was adopted, he finds out he has an older brother. Jimmy is a factory worker who plays trombone for a local marching band in Lille. When the band loses its conductor, Thibaut steps in as replacement, and the brothers learn more about the circumstances that shaped each other's lives. Their reunion sparks a fraternal, musical journey amidst the town's factory closure.

Mikado and Laetitia meet at 16 in a juvenile home and fall in love. When Laetitia becomes pregnant, they decide to flee for fear that their baby will be taken away. When their engine breaks down, they move in for the summer with Vincent, a teacher who lives alone with his daughter. Mady is a student by day and a locksmith by night. One evening, he helps Claire, an enigmatic young woman who isn't who she says she is. The door isn't to her apartment, and the bag she's desperate to retrieve isn't hers, but that of Yannick, a man that Mady must answer to. Aya is a young woman in her early thirties from Ivory Coast. On her wedding day, she rejects her groom to everyone’s astonishment and moves to Guangzhou (China) to start a new life.

When she meets a 45 year-old Chinese man, Cai, while working in a tea export shop, their new relationship faces multiple challenges from their past and the bias of others.

Pierre, a railway worker in his fifties, is raising his two sons alone. The Festival has long paid tribute to Truffaut's works during his quite short life and since he passed away, followed by a large number of Hong Kong cine lovers. Several books have been published in HK, highlighting the appreciation of his films. A y o u n g P a r i s i a n b o y, A n t o i n e D o i n e l , neglected by his derelict parents, skips school, sneaks into movies, runs away from home, steals things, and tries (disastrously) to return them. Like most kids, he gets into more trouble for things he thinks are right than for his actual trespasses. Unlike most kids, he gets whacked with the big stick. In the third instalment, Antoine marries Christine. From the time of their meeting in 1912, Jules and Jim share a close friendship. Shortly before the First World War, Jules marries Catherine, a wilful young woman the two men have befriended, but, after the war has ended, his relationship with her deteriorates rapidly. When Jim comes to stay with the couple, he begins a relationship of his own with Catherine, having been urged to do so by Jules, who hopes that if his wife is involved with his friend she will not leave him.

In 1942, amidst the Nazi occupation of France, this film portrays the resilience of a small theatre in Montmartre, Paris. Despite censorship, antisemitism, and material shortages, the theatre defiantly practises passive resistance. Additionally, due to the curfew, people had to catch the last Métro train home, resulting in limited time for enjoying evenings at theatres. The actress married to the Jewish theatre owner must keep him hidden from the Germans while doing both of their jobs.

In this sequel to Truffaut's emblematic film "The 400 Blows," Antoine Doinel, who had an eventful youth, is now a grown man. He is set free from prison after a turbulent period of military service. Now Antoine is back in civilian life, back in his little garret in Montmartre, and naturally looking for work. After being fired from a job as a night watchman, he is hired by a private detective agency, where he is given an assignment in a shoe store.

In 1863, during the American Civil War, Adèle Hugo, second daughter of the famous writer Victor Hugo, joined her parents in exile in Guernsey. There, she encountered an English officer who later departed for Canada, seemingly indifferent to her. In response, Adèle sought to regain his affection using any means possible. In her diaries, she wrote about a passion that consumed her and took her to the brink of delirium. The film is inspired by her real-life diaries.

04 DECEMBER LIBRARY AF JORDAN Charlotte Perriand was a designer, architect, and urban planner who made important contributions to 20th century architecture.

Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret noticed her talent and vision and worked with her for almost ten years on home equipment.

She also influenced design history with her personality and connection to nature. Inspired

by Japanese and Brazilian cultures, she worked with wood, straw, and bamboo. She designed the Japanese House in Paris in 1957 and the Japanese Embassy in 1966.

The documentary provides an inside look at the days leading up to the closing of the famous concept store Colette in December 2017. The Boutique that opened on Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris in 1997 sells products in minimal series and cutting-edge artistic collaborations with major brands: luxury clothing, art books, gadgets, sneakers and cosmetics. As Gustave Eiffel is widely known for being the Statue of Liberty's engineer, the French government is pressuring him to design something spectacular for the 1889 Paris World Fair. However, he is only interested in the Metropolitan Project. Eiffel's design plans suddenly change when he crosses paths with a woman from his past who inspires him to change the Paris skyline forever. The film stars Romain Duris as Gustave Eiffel and follows a fictionalised romance between Eiffel and Adrienne Bourgès, his childhood sweetheart, played by Emma Mackey.

During the 1950s, Swiss architect Le Corbusier established the Indian city Chandigarh, which was designed as a harmonious blend of Western and Eastern influences. For some, it represented progress and a newly emerged democracy, but it remains unclear if Corbusier’s design was a success or a failure.The film follows four cultural workers living in the planned city.
