foreword 前言 For its 50th anniversary, the Hong Kong French Film Festival - French Cinempanorama is back, for the pleasure of all movie-lovers!

第五十屆香港法國電影節再度 為所有電影愛好者帶來最大的 樂趣！

Celebrating 50 years of French Cinema in Hong Kong, French Cinepanorama invites the public to discover or rediscover French cinema history. From classical movies like “Delusions of Grandeur” by Gérard Oury, to the best of contemporary cinema, along with several popular classics such as “The Party” and “The Visitors”. 5 decades of French cinema will be screened all over the city. An homage will be paid to Maurice Pialat, whose work embodies the evolution of French Cinema, with a selection of four of his most iconic films.

香港法國電影節誠邀觀眾透過 探索或重新探索法國電影的歷 史，一同慶賀電影節的第五十 屆舉辦。從Gérard Oury執導的 《鬼馬丞相》（Delusions of Grandeur）等經典電影，到當 代最佳電影，包括《初吻》 （The Party）和《失驚無神 外來人》（The Visitors）， 法國電影過去五十年的佳 作將於五個不同的場地放 映。電影節將特別向導演 Maurice Pialat 致敬，透過精選他四部最具標 誌性的電影，向觀眾呈現他的作品如何 體現法國電影的演變。

In collaboration with Greenpeace East Asia, French Cinepanorama is also going to be a unique opportunity for the general public to discover new French productions dedicated to climate change, reminding us that cinema can also be militant art that raises awareness on critical issues.

How It Started 源起

Alliance Française de Hong Kong has been committed to the promotion of French cinema since its establishment in 1953, the same year it organized the first French Film Festival. That pioneering makes this the oldest film festival in Hong Kong. 自1953 年創立至今，香港法國文化協會一直透過法國電影節肩負推展法國電影的重任。在同一年， 法協舉辦了第一屆法國電影節，是香港電影節的先驅，亦是香港歷史最悠久的電影節。

Over 50 Editions 超過五十屆電影節

Since 1972, in collaboration with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the festival has become a regular annual event. The festival has screened more than 1,600 French films and attracted a wide audience ranging from cinema lovers to the general public. 自1972年起，香港法國電影節與康樂及文化事務署合作，成為每年舉行的年度電影盛 事。香港法國電影節至今已放映了過一千六百齣法國電影及紀錄片，由電影發燒友到普 羅大眾，吸引了廣泛的觀眾入場觀賞。

France, 18th Century. At the dawn of the French Revolution, gastronomy still is a prerogative of the aristocrats. The prestige of a noble house depends above all on the quality of the food it serves for its guests. When talented chef Manceron is fired by the Duke of Chamfort, he loses his taste for cooking. Back in his country house, he meets Louise, a mysterious lady who gets him back on his feet. Then they decide to create the very first restaurant in France.

Esther is at the end of her career as Head Seamstress at Dior Avenue Montaigne workshop.

One day, she gets her handbag stolen in the metro by a 20 years old girl, Jade. Instead of calling the police she decides to take care of Jade. She sees in her the opportunity to pass on her skills, the craft of dressmaking, her only wealth. In the frenetic world of Haute Couture, Esther will give Jade la beauté du geste, a way to reach beyond herself.

When cinema gets to work for the climate

當電影遇上氣候

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Greenpeace and the 50th edition of Hong Kong French Film Festival, the organisations join hands to present the program “Cinema for the Climate” from November 24 - December 14, 2021.

Greenpeace East Asia and the festival have co-curated a selection of four documentaries, “Above Water” (Marcher sur l’eau), “Animal”, “Bigger Than Us”, and “Legacy” (Legacy, notre heritage) with a mission to raise environmental awareness through cinema.

These documentaries feature voices and stories of young climate campaigners and shine a light on issues such as climate change and the collapse of biodiversity.

He finally invites us to reconcile with nature and proposes several solutions.
