Eye Thrive Mobile Vision Clinic August 9-11 9:00 am St. Louis County Library Weber Road Branch (4444 Weber Road, 63123) Eye Thrive will offer free eye exams and glasses at six SLCL locations this summer. Eye exams will be administered starting at 9:00 a.m. at each of the dates and locations listed below. Capacity is limited. Affton-Lemay Chamber of Commerce Trivia Affton & Lemay are not cities and do not have city halls. They are neighborhoods with strong identities in unincorporated St. Louis County. Affton is named after Johann Georg Aff. He was the first business owner and postmaster of the area. He named the post office Affton which is derived from Aff’s Town.

The Lemay area was originally named Luxemberg. In 1936, with the opening of the Lemay branch of the U.S. Post Office, “Lemay” was officially used as the name of the area. The Affton & Lemay areas contain 5 public school districts: Affton, Bayless, Hancock Place, Lindbergh, & Mehlville School Districts. The Affton-Lemay Chamber of Commerce office is located at 9815 Mackenzie Road. At the April General Membership Meeting, attendees played a trivia game to test their Affton & Lemay knowledge. The winners will be announced on September 19, 2022 at www.afftonlemaychamber.com and Affton-Lemay Community Parade Facebook page. Any entry received after September 2, 2022 will not be included in the judging line-up. Entries received after the deadline may or may not be allowed to participate and will be placed at the end of the parade if space is available. LINE UP/STAGING Only parade vehicles with a color coded parade entry number will be allowed entrance at the staging area. Enter the north parking lot of Affton High School with the colored sheet on the vehicle’s dashboard. The volunteer parade marshals will be able to direct you to the proper lot making the check-in process quicker. They will assist you with any issue. They have full authority to make and enforce decisions, which will ensure the safe progress of the parade. Entries need to arrive by 9:00 am. It is of particular importance that large vehicles or floats line up by that time. Individual marchers can arrive as late as 9:30 am, but please allow time for riding the shuttle bus to the staging area. DROPPING OFF PARTICIPANTS Vehicles dropping off parade participants will not be allowed in the staging area. They may park behind Bayless Elementary School (4531 Weber Road) and ride the shuttle bus to Affton High School. Please instruct your participants to tell the marshals they are with the organization listed on the application you submitted. The parade marshals will then direct them the appropriate entry. PARTICIPANT SHUTTLE BUS SCHEDULE 8:00-9:15 am: Bayless Elementary School ↔ Affton High School street reopening-12:30 pm: Affton High School ↔ Bayless Elementary School WHEEL WALKERS In order to reduce gaps between entries during the parade, maintain an appropriate and safe pace, and ensure an entertaining parade for all of our participants, all Parade units are required to provide designated parade unit wheel walkers. Wheel Walkers are asked to: Walk on either side of every moving vehicle, next to the wheels, to ensure that the area in front of their unit is clear of any pedestrians or other parade units. Maintain the movement and pacing in the parade of all vehicles and marchers belonging to their unit, maintaining a distance approximately 20 feet from the unit ahead of them. PARADE RULES To provide for everyone’s safety, it is strictly prohibited to throw any items from the parade units. We ask that candy, and any other items, be handed out by walkers in the curb lanes. Anyone violating this rule will be asked, by the parade marshals, to drop out of the parade. Only licensed drivers may drive vehicles in the parade. No alcohol is allowed.
END OF PARADE When the parade reaches the Bayless Elementary School, entries that do not need to drop off participants or breakdown their float must continue on Weber Road. Entries that need to breakdown and drop off participants will follow the marshals/police directions to park near the Bayless Elementary School. There will be a shuttle bus returning to Affton High School. CHANGES TO YOUR ENTRY Your assigned line-up area is only large enough for your unit, as described on your application. If there are any changes to the size of your float or the number of vehicles, let us know as soon as possible. If you have made changes without telling us, you will not fit in the space which we have allowed for you. This has caused problems in the past. Changes after September 2 may not be able to be accommodated.
