We asked our newest member of the Board of Directors to answer a few questions so we can get to know her better. Photo provided by Cindy’s Photo.
Affton Christian Food Pantry
I grew up in south city St. Louis and moved to Affton in junior high leading me to attendance at Affton High School (Class of 2000). My husband and I are college sweethearts from Truman State University. We moved back to St. Louis in 2008. Together, we have 1 son and (at the moment) 1 dog, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Our son is currently in 2nd grade at Salem Lutheran School. My husband is a Data and Analytics Lead for Paradowski Creative. I have been the Executive Director of the Affton Christian Food Pantry since August 2018. The ACFP became established in 2006 and I am so proud and honored to work with so many wonderful volunteers of the Affton community as together we serve our neighbors in need. I love being creative! I'll try any craft at least once. I especially love to sew, paint, cook, bake, decorate & I try to garden. I love attending live sporting events and going to the Fox Theater with my boys. Going to the movies was once a weekly ritual and may be again some day, but for now Disney+ and other streaming services work pretty well. I also enjoy volunteering at Salem Lutheran. I am currently the President of our Parent and Teachers Group. This fall I co-coached 4-6th grade girls volleyball team and had a great time teaching the ladies my favorite sport.
2 of my favorite quotes come from my favorite movies: "Get busy living or get busy dying." and "Beginnings are scary, endings are usually sad, but it's the middle that counts the most." And I keep my version of Philippians 4: 6-7 close to my heart always: Do not be anxious about anything. Pray and be thankful. Tell God your requests. He's in control. I didn't get to travel much as a kid, so any opportunity to travel is definitly welcomed in my life. I enjoy visiting the Ozarks and I have been to California twice, both times in May and it was lovely. This past fall we finally went to Disney Word. It was awesome! We look forward to going back. I enjoy every trip from camp outs to beaches to cities big and small. I would love to check off every state in the US (17 states visited plus 4 "pit stop" states) and visit every continent as well. My current bucket list destination is to New Mexico for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. I hope to make go this year as it falls on our 15th wedding anniversary. Since meeting Lisa & Mandy at the Chamber when I began working for ACFP, I immediately saw their passion for helping and growing the Affton (and now Lemay too) community. The Chamber's passion mirrors my own. This is a great community where people and businesses can thrive as we work together. As the Executive Director of the Affton Christian Food Pantry, it is my goal that everyone in our community knows we exist whether it is for the need to get or the need to give. I think that idea translates well to the Chamber. Our Chamber is here for the betterment of our community and I am excited to help spread that message of awareness.
