September always feels like a bit of a fresh start, doesn’t it? Summer isn’t quite over, but there’s a definite change in the air, cooler mornings, slightly shorter evenings and, dare I say it, the first little excitement about everything autumn has to offer.
This month we’re easing into the new season with fashion that makes the transition that little bit easier (page 21). Think pieces you can start wearing now and take right through autumn, including the return of heeled ankle boots (page 27) one of the few things that makes saying goodbye to sandals slightly more bearable!
There’s still plenty of time for eating and drinking outdoors too, and we’ve discovered some fabulous London spots, from beautiful terraces and rooftops to restaurants perfect for a long lunch or evening out, turn to page 32 to find out more.
1
Travel takes us from Portugal and Bodrum to Cognac in France, alongside some rather special stays closer to home, including treehouses in the Cotswolds, a wonderfully unusual water tower and a luxury stay at The Chancery in Dublin (page 50.)

September can also bring that feeling of wanting to get back into a routine and focus a little more on ourselves. Inside, we look at motivation, why we overthink and the connection between a healthy gut and a healthier you, alongside plenty of beauty, interiors and lifestyle inspiration for the season ahead.
So, while I’m definitely not wishing summer away, I’m rather looking forward to everything autumn brings. Until next month,

Why Do We Overthink Everything? Have you ever walked away from a conversation only to replay it over and over again in your mind? "Why did I say that?"
It's probably the very first thing that pops into your mind. The harder we try to push thoughts away, the more our brain focuses on them. Instead of fighting the thoughts, it's far more helpful to understand why they're there in the first place.
Or perhaps you've spent hours imagining every possible outcome before making a decision, only to find none of those scenarios ever happened.
Perhaps though, the most encouraging thing neuroscience has taught us is that the brain is remarkably adaptable.
"I probably sounded ridiculous."
If any of this sounds familiar, you're certainly not alone.
One of the biggest misconceptions about overthinking is that it's simply part of someone's personality. We hear people describe themselves as "an overthinker" or "just an anxious person", almost as though it's a character trait they're destined to live with forever. I don't believe that's true. Overthinking isn't who you are. It's a pattern your brain has learned. One of the things I find most fascinating about neuroscience is discovering just how brilliantly our brains are designed. Deep within the brain sits a primitive survival system. Its job isn't to make us happy, successful or confident. Its job is much simpler than that. It's there to keep us alive.
Thousands of years ago, this meant watching for predators and genuine danger. Today, however, our brains often struggle to tell the difference between a real threat and an uncomfortable situation such as giving a presentation, sending an important email or worrying about what someone thought of us. When life becomes stressful, overwhelming or emotionally draining, that survival system becomes more alert. It begins scanning for problems everywhere. Suddenly the mind fills with endless questions. What if I said the wrong thing? What if they don't like me?
When the brain feels calmer and safer, it naturally stops sounding the alarm quite so often.
This ability, known as neuroplasticity, means our brains are constantly creating new neural pathways throughout our lives. Every experience, every habit and every repeated thought strengthens certain connections.
As we begin reducing stress, improving sleep, taking notice of what's going well and gently shifting our focus away from imagined dangers, new pathways begin to develop. Over time, the calmer parts of the brain become stronger, while the anxious pathways are used less frequently. It's rather like walking through a field.
The path you use every day becomes clear and well worn. Stop using it, and eventually the grass begins to grow back. At the same time, a new path becomes easier to follow the more often you walk it. Our brains work in much the same way.
One of the reasons I love Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is that it combines modern neuroscience with psychotherapy and guided relaxation to help the brain do what it naturally wants to do, find balance again. Rather than becoming stuck analysing everything that's happened, we focus on reducing stress, understanding how the brain works and building healthier patterns for the future.
As the brain becomes calmer, people often notice they sleep better, worry less, think more clearly and begin enjoying life again instead of constantly analysing it.
What if I make a mistake?
Remember, if your mind rarely seems to switch off, there isn't anything wrong with you. Your brain has simply become a little too good at trying to protect you.
The more attention we give those thoughts, the more important the brain believes they are. Before long, overthinking becomes an automatic response rather than a conscious decision.
And sometimes, that's where life begins to feel lighter again.
What if something goes wrong?
Why We Can't Just "Switch It Off"
If only it were as simple as telling ourselves to stop thinking. Unfortunately, the brain doesn't work that way. Imagine someone says, "Whatever you do, don't think about a pink elephant."
The wonderful thing is that our brains can learn. With the right understanding, the right support and a little patience, they can also learn a calmer, healthier way of responding. If anxiety, stress or overthinking are stopping you living the life you want, get in touch with Jane, to find out how to feel like yourself again.

Why Your Gut Doesn't Always Love a Holiday We spend weeks looking forward to our holidays, yet for many people the first couple of days are accompanied by bloating, constipation, diarrhoea or an unsettled stomach.
According to award-winning Registered Dietitian Kirsten Jackson, that's no coincidence. "People often think it's just the rich food or cocktails, but your digestive system is actually responding to something much bigger," says Kirsten, founder of The IBS Dietitian. "Within the first 48 hours of travelling, you've often changed your sleep pattern, meal timings, activity levels, fluid intake and daily routine all at once. Your digestive system thrives on consistency, so it's not surprising that many people notice changes in how they feel." While these changes are usually temporary, understanding what's happening can help people reduce the chances of holiday bloating, constipation, diarrhoea and indigestion spoiling the start of their trip. The five holiday habits affecting your digestion
1. Swapping routine for spontaneity Your digestive system loves predictability. Holidays often mean earlier starts, later nights, different meal times and disrupted sleep patterns, all of which can temporarily alter digestion.
2. Not drinking enough Flying, hot weather, alcohol and busy days exploring can all increase your risk of dehydration. One of the most common reasons people experience constipation while travelling is simply not drinking enough fluids. Even mild dehydration can slow the movement of the bowel.
3. Eating differently Whether it's larger portions, richer meals or simply foods you don't normally eat at home, holidays often mean your digestive system has plenty to adapt to. It's not that holiday food is necessarily unhealthy - it's simply different. Your gut microbiome adapts to your usual eating patterns, so suddenly changing what and when you eat can temporarily affect digestion.
4. Sitting for longer Whether you're on a long-haul flight, a road trip or spending more time relaxing by the pool, being less active than usual can slow digestion. Movement helps stimulate the bowel, so long periods of sitting can contribute to constipation and leave people feeling sluggish. 5. Ignoring your body's natural signals Long journeys, unfamiliar public toilets and packed itineraries often mean people delay going to the toilet or ignore their usual routine. It might not seem like a big deal but delaying a bowel movement or regularly ignoring the urge to go can contribute to constipation and make digestive discomfort worse. How to keep your digestion on track while travelling
Stay hydrated - particularly before, during and after flying. Keep some routine where possible - including eating meals at roughly the same times each day. Don't forget fibre by continuing to eat fruit, vegetables and wholegrains while you're away. Build movement into your day, whether that's stretching during a flight or taking a short walk after meals. Listen to your body and don't ignore the urge to use the toilet. Go easy on alcohol, particularly in hot weather, as it can contribute to dehydration.
If you have IBS, continue using the management strategies that you know work for you rather than abandoning your routine completely. Holidays should be about making memories, not worrying about your digestion. A few simple habits can make a real difference, and if your digestion does change while you're away, try not to panic. For most people it's simply your body's natural response to a sudden change in routine, and things usually settle once you're back into your normal rhythm. www.theibsdietitian.com

What If You’re Not Lacking Motivation? We’re often surprisingly quick to accuse ourselves of lacking motivation. We know there are things we want to change, jobs we need to tackle or plans we’d love to put into action, yet somehow we can’t get started. So, we make another list, set new goals and promise ourselves that Monday will be different. But what if motivation isn’t really the problem? What if, somewhere along the way, you’ve simply stopped believing in yourself?
When we decide we’re unmotivated, our instinct is usually to push harder. We tell ourselves to be more disciplined, productive or organised. Yet if what’s really sitting beneath our reluctance is a quiet belief that we’re going to fail, no productivity app or beautifully colour-coded to-do list is likely to fix it.
Losing confidence in ourselves rarely happens overnight. More often, it builds gradually. A disappointment here, criticism there; something we tried that didn’t work, an unkind comment that stayed with us, or years of comparing ourselves with people who appeared to be doing life rather better than we were. Gradually, “That didn’t work” becomes “I can’t do it.” “I found that difficult” becomes “I’m not good enough.” A mistake stops being something that happened and starts feeling like evidence of who we are. And that’s when an apparent lack of motivation can become a form of self-protection.
Starting something when you’re convinced you might fail can feel incredibly exposing. So, we procrastinate. We convince ourselves we need more research, that life needs to be quieter or that we should get organised first. There is, after all, always another Monday. Sometimes we genuinely are tired, busy or overwhelmed. But it can be worth asking what sits underneath the delay. Is it really that you don’t want to do it, or is there a small voice asking, “What if I try and discover I can’t?” Rebuilding self-belief doesn’t require suddenly waking up convinced you can conquer the world. Forcing yourself to think “I can definitely do this” when you don’t believe it can feel rather hollow. A gentler place to begin might simply be: “I wonder if I could?”
Those few words leave room for possibility without demanding certainty. From there, think small. Rather than waiting for confidence to arrive before you act, take an action that feels
manageable. Send the email you’ve been putting off. Make the phone call. Spend fifteen minutes on the project gathering dust. Go for a ten-minute walk rather than promising yourself an hour at the gym. Then, importantly, notice that you did it.
Confidence is often talked about as though it’s something we need before taking action, when frequently it’s something we develop through action. Each small step provides a new piece of evidence: I was nervous, but I did it. I didn’t know how, but I found out. It wasn’t perfect, but I tried. I made a mistake and recovered. Over time, those experiences begin to challenge the old story. It’s also worth listening to the way you describe yourself. “I’m terrible at this”, “I’m not confident” or “I always give up” may feel like harmless observations, but they turn experiences into identities. Try leaving a little room for change: “I’m finding this difficult”, “I don’t feel confident yet” or “I’ve given up before, but that doesn’t mean I have to this time.”
This matters for children too. Labels such as lazy, clever, shy, difficult, sporty or academic can easily become part of how they understand themselves. Focusing instead on effort, curiosity and perseverance leaves room to grow. Difficulty doesn’t have to mean inability for them or for us. So, if your get-up-and-go appears to have got up and gone, perhaps you don’t need another motivational quote or stricter morning routine. Maybe you need to stop demanding enormous leaps from yourself and start collecting small reasons to trust yourself again. Choose one thing. Make it manageable. Do it imperfectly if necessary.
Because perhaps the question isn’t, “How can I make myself more motivated?” Maybe it’s: “What can I do today that gives me one small reason to believe in myself again?”
Sometimes motivation hasn’t disappeared at all. Sometimes self-belief has simply become buried beneath disappointment, comparison and a few chapters that didn’t go quite as planned.
And perhaps the next one begins with two very small words: Maybe I can.

Autumn Journal Prompts Is it just me, or is there a gentle joy in slowing down at this time of year? The crispness creeping into the air, evenings drawing in and the first thoughts of candles, blankets and cosy nights at home.
September always feels a little like a second New Year to me. After the freedom (and sometimes chaos) of summer, structure begins to return and there’s an opportunity to reset before we head into the final few months of the year. For this month’s wellness edit, I wanted to do something a little different and invite you to take a moment for yourself with some simple autumnal journal prompts. Journalling is one of my favourite mindful practices. There’s something incredibly grounding about putting pen to paper and allowing yourself to explore what’s going on beneath the surface. No editing, no judgement and no need to have the “right” answer. Make a little ritual of it. Light a candle, grab a blanket, make your favourite drink and find somewhere comfortable. You don’t need an hour, even ten quiet minutes can give you space to check in with yourself. September also brings the Autumn Equinox on the 22nd, when day and night are almost equal in length before we move towards darker mornings and evenings. Traditionally, it’s a moment associated with balance, transition and letting go, themes that feel particularly fitting at this point in the year.
I’ll be spending the Equinox immersed in yoga, wellbeing, reflection and relaxation at a weekend in the Bedfordshire countryside, and it got me thinking about how rarely we deliberately create space to simply be. Autumn seems the perfect season to change that.
So, find a quiet corner, open your notebook and see where these take you… Autumn Journal Prompts
1. What autumn activities make you feel joyful and alive? Think about how you could intentionally make space for more of them over the coming months.
2. What intentions would you like to set for the season ahead? Perhaps revisit your vision board, start a new one or simply write down what you’d like the remainder of the year to feel like. 3. How do you want to nurture yourself as the weather gets colder? Consider slower mornings, evening rituals and the small things that make you feel good from the inside out. 4. What are you ready to let go of? Just as the trees shed their leaves, consider what has been weighing you down that you no longer need to carry.
5. What is your favourite autumn memory? Where were you, who were you with and, most importantly, how did it make you feel?
Autumn doesn’t have to mean rushing towards the end of another year. Perhaps instead, it can be our reminder to slow down, turn inwards and enjoy the beauty of the season we’re actually in. Danielle x

Available as both a tasting menu and à la carte offering, it’s a lovely celebration of summer, food and the South London community that Babur has called home for more than four decades. Why Autumn is the Perfect Time to
Discover Cognac
There are places that seem made for autumn. Cognac, with its honeycoloured stone, vineyard-covered countryside and centuries-old cellars filled with slowly ageing eaux-de-vie, is most definitely one of them.
As the heat of summer softens and the crowds begin to disappear, this elegant corner of south-west France slips into a rather lovely rhythm of its own. Days remain pleasantly warm, vineyards turn from green to shades of gold and russet and suddenly long lunches and leisurely afternoons seem perfectly acceptable. The town itself deserves time. Medieval streets wind between handsome buildings, markets offer a taste of the Charente and the river provides the perfect backdrop for an unhurried morning stroll. Beyond the centre, vineyards stretch into the countryside, ready to be explored on foot, by bicycle or behind the wheel of a vintage Citroën 2CV. Roof down, naturally.
Of course, Cognac’s famous spirit is never far away. Autumn marks the beginning of distillation season, making it a fascinating time to visit the historic houses and discover the craftsmanship behind the bottle. Le Ban de la Distillation, from 23–25 October, celebrates the start of the season with distillery visits, tastings, music and festivities. There’s culture too. September’s Coup de Chauffe fills the streets with theatre, circus, music and outdoor performances, while October brings Festival Polar, celebrating crime fiction through authors, films and book signings. But for us, much of the appeal of an autumn escape lies in having somewhere rather lovely to retreat to afterwards.
Sitting in the heart of town, Hôtel Chais Monnet & Spa is one of those hotels that gives you every excuse to cancel your afternoon plans and simply stay put.
The five-star property occupies a beautifully reimagined former Cognac trading house dating back to 1838, its historic cellars and industrial architecture cleverly woven into a contemporary hotel. Original features remain throughout, the former cooperage is now Bar 1838, while old storage barrels form part of the setting at Michelin-starred Les Foudres, giving the hotel a genuine connection to the town rather than simply borrowing its name.
sept26.qxp_Layout 1 28/08/2026 12:07 Page 47
Its 92 rooms and suites, spread across four buildings, favour a sophisticated French aesthetic with natural and noble materials, king-size beds and sleek bathrooms. Rooms start at a generous 28 square metres, while suites offer considerably more space for those planning to settle in for a few days. Think polished rather than showy; contemporary luxury softened by the history surrounding it.
And then there’s the spa. The wellness space comes complete with indoor and outdoor pool, Jacuzzi, saunas, steam rooms, experience showers and four treatment rooms, alongside a fitness centre. Food is another very good reason not to stray too far. Les Foudres, the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant, celebrates the produce and culinary heritage of the region, while La Distillerie offers a more relaxed contemporary brasserie experience.
After dinner, Bar 1838 awaits in the former cooperage with hundreds of Cognac references alongside Champagne, spirits and signature cocktails. Until the end of September, however, we’d head upwards to the rooftop, order something cold and watch the sun disappear across the rooftops of Cognac. The hotel is also rather good at creating experiences you probably wouldn’t stumble across alone. Guests can venture behind the doors of celebrated Cognac houses, discover pear Cognac at Maison Brillet, explore food and Cognac pairings at Hine or arrange visits to names including Hennessy and Rémy Martin. There are even cocktail masterclasses for anyone who prefers their Cognac shaken, stirred or served with a little more imagination.
All of which makes Cognac feel rather different from the destination you might have imagined. Come for the vineyards and the famous amber spirit, certainly, but stay for beautiful food, slow afternoons, spa time and the particular pleasure of discovering a corner of France once the summer crowds have departed. Because sometimes the best autumn weekends are the ones that involve absolutely no rushing, unless, of course, it’s to the rooftop in time for sunset. BOOK IT

A Suite Escape in the Heart of Dublin Dublin is one of those cities that gets under your skin. It's lively, friendly, steeped in history and seemingly always ready to tempt you into one more pub, one more glass of something or one more little detour down a cobbled street.
So, finding somewhere that puts you right in the heart of it all, yet gives you a wonderfully peaceful retreat at the end of the day, feels like having the best of both worlds. Enter The Chancery, Dublin. Sitting beside Dublin Castle, The Chancery is a relatively new addition to the city's luxury hotel scene and, from the moment we arrived for our two-night stay, there was a warmth about it. Check-in was faultless, delivered with that wonderful Irish charm that makes you feel instantly welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and within minutes we felt completely at home.
The interiors are contemporary and stylish but not remotely showy, with natural materials, warm muted colours and clever lighting creating an understated elegance throughout. For the next two nights, one of The Chancery's new Terrace Suites was our home and this is where our stay became rather special. The hotel describes its bedrooms as somewhere to "put the city outside on pause", and standing inside our suite, I understood exactly what they meant. At around 26 square metres, it's not about cavernous amounts of space; instead, every inch feels beautifully considered. Herringbone hardwood flooring, natural materials, pared-back colours and clean contemporary lines give the room a calm, grown-up feel. The bed, topped with an Irish-made King Koil mattress and beautifully crisp linen, is dangerously inviting, while thoughtful touches such as bedside USB points, electronically controlled curtains and lighting, a walk-in rainfall shower, fluffy
sept26.qxp_Layout 1 28/08/2026 12:08 Page 51
robes and slippers and gorgeous toiletries are those little extras that come together to create a real sense of understated luxury. But as beautiful as the suite was, nothing quite prepared us for what was waiting outside. Sliding open the doors revealed an incredible private terrace that felt more like an outdoor living room than a hotel balcony. A huge, sink-into corner sofa sat perfectly positioned for taking in the views, alongside a dining area and, beyond the glass balustrade, Dublin's rooftops and historic skyline stretched out before us. And then, at the other end of the terrace, was the pièce de résistance, our own private Hot Tub.
Naturally, it didn't take us long to investigate. With a chilled glass of Prosecco in hand, we sank into the warm bubbling water and looked out across Dublin's rooftops. There's something deliciously decadent about sitting in your own private hot tub in the middle of a capital city. No communal spa timetable, nobody else waiting to get in and nowhere you need to be, just warm bubbling water, a glass in your hand and a fabulous view stretching out in front of you.
Over the next two days, the terrace became somewhere we returned to again and again. After a day exploring, we'd make hot chocolate and curl up on those huge sofas beneath the evening sky, while mornings were spent watching the first light slowly appear across Dublin's rooftops. It was magical. As if having our own private hot tub wasn't enough, we eventually managed to drag ourselves away from the suite to investigate The Chancery's Wellness Hub.
Hidden away from the energy of the city, the spa feels intimate and wonderfully cocooning, with natural woods and marble, a mini pool, sauna and Hammam creating a soothing space where you could easily lose track of time. My treatment completed the experience perfectly; within minutes, the softly lit room, beautiful aromas and expert hands had me completely switched off, leaving me in that blissfully floaty state where you're not entirely sure what day it is.
That evening, suitably relaxed, we headed to the hotel’s restaurant ‘Fawn’ for dinner. Bright, airy and beautifully designed, Fawn feels sophisticated without becoming formal. Greenery outside the windows softens the contemporary interiors and there's an easy, unhurried atmosphere that makes you want to settle in for the evening. The menu celebrates seasonal Irish produce, with a definite Italian influence running through it. While we perused the menu, we sipped a welcome cocktail, accompanied by warm focaccia and olives.
I started with the Heirloom Tomato & Toonsbridge Bocconcini, beautifully fresh and full of flavour, while my guest opted for the Fried Calamari & Merguez, bringing together seafood, spice and richer flavours.
For my main, it had to be the Aubergine Parmigiana, comforting and rich without feeling overly heavy,
sept26.qxp_Layout 1 28/08/2026 12:08 Page 52
while across the table the Cioppino Seafood Stew arrived brimming with seafood in a deeply flavoursome broth. For research purposes, we did briefly look at the dessert menu, but there simply wasn't room.
After sinking into our sumptuous bed for an incredibly restful night's sleep, we woke refreshed and more than ready for breakfast, with fresh fruit, pastries, housemade granola and tempting cooked dishes, accompanied, of course, by proper barista-made coffee for that essential first caffeine hit of the day.
Fully fuelled and possibly having eaten slightly more breakfast than necessary, we headed out to explore, and with The Chancery perfectly positioned in the heart of the city, we didn't have far to go. We wandered through Dublin's historic streets, taking in St Patrick's Cathedral and nearby Marsh's Library before heading towards the colourful buzz of Temple Bar, with its cobbled streets, traditional pubs and live music.
The Guinness Storehouse was firmly on our list too, before our wanderings led us to The Brazen Head, reputed to be Ireland's oldest pub. Packed with character and history, it was the perfect place for lunch and, of course, there was really only one thing I could order, a warming bowl of traditional Irish stew. After clocking up plenty of steps, the thought of heading back to The Chancery was becoming increasingly appealing. We slipped into the bar for a chilled glass of wine before retreating upstairs, where the hot tub was calling once again.
Shoes off, robes on and into the bubbles, sightseeing is exhausting work!
And this, for me, is where The Chancery really comes into its own. You can spend the day immersed in Dublin's history, atmosphere, restaurants and pubs, yet the moment you step back inside the hotel, the pace changes. Head upstairs, close the door to your Terrace Suite and suddenly the city feels a world away. Those quieter moments became every bit as memorable as exploring Dublin itself, sinking into the hot tub with a glass of Prosecco after walking miles around the city, curling into the sofas with hot chocolate late at night, opening the doors first thing in the morning and watching the sun begin to rise across the rooftops.
The Chancery manages to make a city break feel like a retreat at the same time and therein lies its charm. Luxurious without being ostentatious, indulgent without trying too hard and with one of those suites you really won't want to leave, this is city living with all the right little luxuries thrown in. From Royal Lookout to Romantic Retreat
Fancy swapping your usual hotel room for a little piece of royal history? The Water Tower at Sandringham has been transformed into an extraordinary romantic retreat for two and it’s now available to stay in. Standing on the private Sandringham Estate for almost 150 years, the striking Victorian tower unfolds across four circular levels. Downstairs you’ll find the kitchen and dining space, followed by a king-size bedroom and a wonderfully cosy treetop living room complete with working fireplace.
The interiors have been carefully designed to complement rather than compete with the building’s history. Heritage-inspired colours, understated furnishings and reclaimed pieces sourced from around the Sandringham Estate sit alongside historic photographs of the Royal Family, while curved walls and changing views are a constant reminder that this is certainly no ordinary holiday cottage.
But save the best until last. Climb the narrow spiral staircase and you’ll emerge inside the Tower’s original 32,000-gallon cast-iron water tank, now an intimate rooftop terrace with a bistro table for two and uninterrupted 360-degree views across the Sandringham Estate and Norfolk countryside. It’s here that The Water Tower really comes into its own. Imagine morning coffee high above the treetops, watching rare-breed cattle and sheep grazing in the parkland below, or pouring a glass of something chilled as the sun begins to
sept26.qxp_Layout 1 28/08/2026 12:09 Page 55
disappear across the Norfolk countryside. With just two guests sharing the entire tower, it feels wonderfully secluded despite its rather prestigious address.
Built in 1877 to improve the water supply to Sandringham House, the tower also incorporated a viewing room where members of the Royal Family and their guests would gather during shooting parties and picnics. More than a century later, guests can look out across many of those same views.
Now exclusively available through Oliver’s Travels, The Water Tower joins The Folly and The Gardens House as one of three rather special places to stay on the private Royal Estate. And with the wider Sandringham Estate and beautiful Norfolk countryside on the doorstep, there’s plenty of reason to venture out although between that fireplace, rooftop terrace and a view that changes with every floor, we wouldn’t blame you for barely leaving the tower.
Romantic, wonderfully unusual and with views quite literally fit for a king, this has weekendaway wish list written all over it. BOOK IT
The Water Tower at Sandringham is available exclusively through Oliver’s Travels, with weekly rates from £1,500 to £2,395.

Branching Out in the
Cotswolds High among the trees of the Cotswold countryside, The Treehouses at Calcot Manor bring a new sense of seclusion to one of the region’s best-loved country retreats. Opened earlier this summer, they combine the hotel’s award-winning wellness credentials and connection to nature with the kind of escapism that makes switching off almost inevitable.
Created by specialist treehouse designers Blue Forest, the hideaways sit just beyond the main hotel, surrounded by woodland, oxeye daisies and uninterrupted views across rolling fields. Designed to sit almost unnoticed within the landscape, each treehouse feels completely at home among the surrounding woodland and wildflowers. Mornings begin with birdsong and sunlight filtering through the canopy; evenings are for retreating to the private deck and sauna as the countryside quietens around you. There’s a wonderful sense of being removed from it all, despite the comforts of Calcot Manor remaining just a short stroll away.
Step inside and the pace immediately slows, with warm timber, natural textures and soft lighting creating a cocoon high among the trees. A serene master bedroom is joined by a cosy loft-style twin room, making the treehouses equally suited to couples seeking privacy, friends escaping for the weekend or families looking to add a little adventure to a Cotswolds stay. Interiors by Cathy Birtles take their cue from the surrounding countryside, with handcrafted details adding character throughout. Thoughtful touches encourage guests to embrace their setting too, binoculars are provided for birdwatching, rewilding maps tempt you to explore and a carefully curated pantry of local produce brings a taste of the Cotswolds inside.
sept26.qxp_Layout 1 28/08/2026 12:10 Page 57
Dining can be as relaxed as the surroundings. Wander back to the Brasserie for a three-course dinner or stay cocooned among the trees and order one of the hotel’s freshly prepared feasting bakes, hearty lasagne or creamy fish pie, to share in the privacy of your cabin. On cooler evenings, staying in feels less like the easy option and more like the ultimate indulgence. Should you eventually decide to leave your treetop hideaway, complimentary bikes are waiting for countryside adventures, while Calcot Manor’s award-winning spa and holistic health and fitness facilities offer another very good reason to slow things down.
Part secluded country retreat, part childhood fantasy reimagined for grown-ups, The Treehouses offer the Cotswolds from an altogether more elevated perspective. BOOK IT
