Health Anxiety When Your Mind Becomes Your Biggest Symptom Have you ever Googled a headache and, five minutes later, convinced yourself you're living your final days? If you're nodding along, you're certainly not alone.
Health anxiety is far more common than many people realise. It's that exhausting cycle where every ache, pain or new sensation sends your brain into detective mode. A flutter in your chest becomes a heart problem. A mole you've had for years suddenly looks suspicious. A headache isn't just a headache anymore... it's something much bigger. The irony? The more we search for reassurance, the more anxious we often become.
As a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, I see this pattern regularly. People don't come to me because they're irrational or "making it up". They come because their brain has become incredibly good at spotting potential danger. And that's exactly what it's designed to do.
Our primitive brain has one very important job: to keep us alive. Thousands of years ago it protected us from predators lurking behind bushes. Today, it hasn't quite caught up with modern life. Instead of lions and bears, it scans for symptoms, illnesses and worst-case scenarios. Unfortunately, Google doesn't help.
One innocent search quickly becomes twenty. Before long you're reading stories that convince you you're the one person with the rare condition that affects one in a million people. Most of us have been there at some point, although for some people that cycle becomes relentless and begins to take over everyday life.
The more anxious we become, the more adrenaline and cortisol our bodies produce. Those stress hormones can create very real physical sensations including dizziness, chest tightness, stomach problems, tingling, muscle tension, headaches, a racing heart and breathlessness. The cruel twist is that these perfectly normal anxiety symptoms then become "proof" that something terrible must
be happening.
Round and round the cycle goes.
The good news is that your brain is wonderfully adaptable. It learns patterns, but it can also learn new ones.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps people understand how anxiety affects the brain while gently retraining those automatic responses. Rather than spending months analysing every frightening thought, we focus on building the healthier neural pathways that already exist within your mind.
Think of it like strengthening a muscle. The more your brain practises calm, confidence and rational thinking, the stronger those pathways become and the easier those responses feel.
That doesn't mean ignoring genuine health concerns. If something doesn't feel right, always seek medical advice. Health anxiety isn't about dismissing symptoms; it's about recognising when anxiety has taken over the driving seat long after you've been reassured. One of the simplest questions I encourage my clients to ask themselves is, "Is this fact, or is this fear talking?" That small pause can create enough space for your intellectual brain to catch up with your emotional one.
It's also worth remembering that our brains notice what we repeatedly look for. If you're constantly scanning your body for problems, you'll almost certainly notice sensations that have probably always been there. Instead, try gently shifting your attention towards what's working well. What has your body allowed you to do today? Walk the dog? Hug your children? Enjoy your morning coffee? Laugh with a friend? Our minds grow where we place our attention.

Silencing your Inner Critic We all have an inner voice. At its best, it encourages us, celebrates our achievements and reminds us of our strengths. But for many of us, it does the opposite. It magnifies mistakes, highlights our flaws and convinces us we're somehow not enough. The truth is, our inner critic often speaks more harshly than anyone else ever would.
Although it can disguise itself as motivation, constant selfcriticism rarely helps us grow. Instead, it fuels anxiety, perfectionism and self-doubt. Learning to quiet that voice isn't about pretending life is perfect; it's about building a kinder, healthier relationship with yourself.
Our inner critic doesn't appear overnight. It's shaped by years of experiences – childhood expectations, rejection, comparison, social media and the pressure to always achieve more. Over time, these experiences become a familiar story that feels true simply because we've heard it so often.
The good news? Just because you've listened to that voice for years doesn't mean you have to keep believing it.
The first step is simply noticing when it appears. Rather than accepting every negative thought as fact, become curious. Ask yourself, Would I say this to someone I love? Is it completely true? Is there another, kinder way to look at this situation? That small pause creates something powerful: choice.
Imagine a close friend came to you after making a mistake. You probably wouldn't tell them they were a failure or that they'd never succeed. You'd reassure them, offer perspective and remind them that everyone gets things wrong. So why should you deserve any less?
Self-compassion isn't about lowering your standards or making excuses. It's recognising that being human means being imperfect. You don't have to earn kindness from yourself – you deserve it simply because you're human.
One of the simplest ways to soften your inner critic is to change the language you use. Instead of saying, "I'm terrible at this," try, "I'm still learning." Rather than, "I always mess
everything up," remind yourself, "That didn't go as planned, but I can learn from it."
These small shifts may seem insignificant, but over time they can completely transform the way you speak to yourself.
Another trap many of us fall into is believing we'll finally feel happy or confident once we've reached the next milestone - the promotion, the goal weight, the perfect relationship or the dream home. But confidence isn't built by arriving; it's built by recognising the progress you make along the way. Celebrate showing up. Celebrate trying again. Celebrate the small wins that often go unnoticed, because they matter more than you think.
Just as any healthy relationship needs care, so does the one you have with yourself. Small daily habits can gradually reshape your inner dialogue. Take a moment each evening to acknowledge three things you've done well. Give yourself permission to rest without guilt. Spend less time comparing yourself to carefully edited lives online, and more time appreciating your own journey. Perhaps the most freeing realisation of all is this: your thoughts are not your identity. They are passing mental events, not facts. Your inner critic may be loud, but it doesn't have to be the narrator of your life.
Every day offers a fresh opportunity to tell yourself a different story. One built on encouragement instead of criticism, curiosity instead of judgement, and compassion instead of impossible expectations.
When we replace self-criticism with self-compassion, we don't become weaker, we become stronger and more resilient. Confidence doesn't come from never making mistakes. It comes from knowing that when we do, we'll meet ourselves with understanding rather than judgement. After all, the longest relationship you'll ever have is the one you have with yourself. Make it a compassionate one.

Natural Ways to Support Healthy Blood Sugar If you've spent any time scrolling through social media, you've probably noticed the wellness obsession - blood glucose monitoring. From celebrities wearing continuous glucose monitors to influencers documenting every meal, keeping an eye on blood sugar has become one of the biggest health conversations of the year.
But while the gadgets may be new, the importance of balanced blood sugar certainly isn't.
Stable blood glucose levels play a much bigger role in our overall wellbeing than many of us realise. They don't just affect those living with diabetes; they can influence our energy levels, mood, concentration, sleep, cravings and even how hungry we feel throughout the day. Those familiar midafternoon energy crashes or sudden urges to raid the biscuit tin can sometimes be linked to the peaks and dips in our blood sugar. The good news? Alongside regular movement, quality sleep and a balanced diet rich in whole foods, nature has provided us with some remarkable ingredients that may help support healthy glucose balance.
One of the most researched is white mulberry leaf. Traditionally used in herbal medicine for centuries, it has attracted growing scientific interest for its ability to slow the digestion of carbohydrates. Studies suggest it can reduce the rate at which sugars are absorbed into the bloodstream, helping to minimise those dramatic spikes that often leave us feeling sluggish a short time later.
Another pantry favourite that continues to impress is apple cider vinegar. While it has enjoyed countless wellness trends over the years, research suggests it may genuinely help improve insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar rises after meals. A small amount added to salad dressings or diluted before meals is often all that's needed, although it should always be consumed safely and never undiluted.
Ginger is another everyday kitchen hero. Best known for supporting digestion and easing nausea, studies have also explored its potential role in helping maintain healthy fasting blood glucose levels. Whether grated into stir-fries, brewed into tea or added to smoothies, it's an easy ingredient to include in everyday meals. Then there's the wonderfully tropical guava. Packed with vitamin C, antioxidants and fibre, this colourful fruit supports the immune system while research also suggests it may contribute to healthier blood sugar and cholesterol levels. It's another reminder that some of the most beneficial foods are often the simplest.
Finally, fenugreek seeds have been used for generations in traditional cooking and herbal medicine. Modern research indicates they may complement a healthy diet and regular exercise by helping to support healthy fasting blood glucose levels. Their naturally nutty flavour works beautifully in curries, soups and homemade spice blends. Of course, no single food is a miracle cure, and there's no substitute for a healthy lifestyle. The greatest benefits come from looking at the bigger picture. Nourishing your body with colourful whole foods, staying active, managing stress, prioritising sleep and enjoying treats in moderation rather than chasing perfection.
As with any dietary change, particularly if you have diabetes or take medication that affects blood sugar, it's always worth speaking with your GP or healthcare professional before introducing supplements or making significant changes to your routine. Sometimes the smallest habits have the biggest impact, and often the ingredients that support our health best are already sitting quietly in our kitchen cupboards.

Summer Self-Care Rituals It's so easy to overcommit during the summer months. Busy weekends, evenings filled with plans, and calendars packed with social events often leave little time to slow down and enjoy the simple moments that truly fill your wellbeing cup. This month, I'm sharing a few of my favourite summer self-care rituals, gentle practices that I genuinely look forward to each year and that help me embrace the energy of the yang season while staying grounded.
Start the day with gentle movement I love waking up to natural sunlight streaming through my blinds (I never close them completely for exactly that reason). Before the day begins, I take my vitamins, enjoy a good glug of water, and head out for a gentle morning walk. As a therapist, I spend much of my day in a cosy treatment room, so I really appreciate making the most of the beautiful morning light whenever I can. If a morning walk feels like too much, simply taking time to move your body through gentle yoga or Pilates is a wonderful way to begin the day. Move with kindness, paying attention to any areas of tightness and allowing your body to wake up naturally.
If you can, enjoy your morning coffee and breakfast outside. Recently, I met one of my best friends at 6.30am for a morning run, followed by breakfast at a local hotel. Being home by 8.30am, having already enjoyed fresh air, sunshine and good conversation, felt like such a privilege. I'm equally enjoying sitting outside after my morning walk with breakfast. Those quiet moments, accompanied only by birdsong, feel incredibly nourishing. Take one minute to breathe I recently trained in Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage and have learned so much about how stress
affects the body. When we're constantly rushing, many of our body's natural processes begin to slow down.
Something as simple as one minute of mindful breathing can help regulate your nervous system, allowing your body to shift into its natural "rest and digest" state.
Top tip: When practising mindful breathing, make your out-breath slightly longer than your in-breath. This simple technique signals safety to your nervous system and encourages your body to relax. Never underestimate a cooling shower I was definitely one of those people who became hooked on ice baths when they were the latest wellness trend! While the novelty eventually wore off, one habit I've effortlessly kept is ending (or sometimes beginning) my day with a cool shower. Cool showers offer so many wonderful benefits. They help regulate body temperature, can soothe and calm the nervous system, and leave your skin feeling refreshed and revitalised.
Top tip: Add a drop of peppermint essential oil to the floor of your shower (away from where you'll stand). As the warm water creates steam, the fresh, minty aroma fills the space, creating an uplifting spa-like experience. This summer, give yourself permission to enjoy the simple things. Slow down, spend time in nature, and remember that rest is every bit as important as productivity. Next month, as we approach the Autumn Equinox, we'll begin turning our focus inward. To celebrate the change of season, I'll be hosting a magical retreat weekend in a beautiful Bedfordshire farmhouse. You can find all the details over on Instagram: @daniellecox.wellbeing.

4 The Spirit of the South of France
La Petite Maison brings the spirit of the South of France to Mayfair, and nowhere is that more evident than on its terrace. Tucked away on Brook’s Mews, it offers a rare pocket of Riviera ease in central London, where long lunches drift into late afternoons over chilled rosé and sun-soaked plates. Designed to capture that effortless Côte d’Azur rhythm, the terrace is as much about atmosphere as it is about food, a place to settle in, stretch time, and lean into LPM’s signature art de vivre.
It’s the natural setting for the restaurant’s seasonal dishes, best enjoyed outdoors with a Tomatini in hand. Complementing the experience is LPM’s Déjà Vu cocktail menu, a vintage magazine-inspired collection that mirrors the glamour of the French Riviera in the 1960s. Each serve, including its nonalcoholic counterpart, plays into the same sense of escapism, making the terrace feel less like Mayfair and more like a very well-kept secret on the coast. www.lpmrestaurants.com/london

W Ibiza The Soulful Side of the White Isle Ibiza is often celebrated for its legendary nightlife, but beyond the world-famous beach clubs and late-night parties lies a very different side to the island. One of slower mornings, artisan markets, hidden coves and a laid-back bohemian spirit that has drawn artists, creatives and free spirits here for decades. It is this more relaxed Ibiza that W Ibiza captures so effortlessly. Set directly on the beachfront in the charming coastal town of Santa Eulalia del Río, the hotel offers a stylish Mediterranean retreat where wellness, culture and barefoot luxury take centre stage. Just 20 minutes from Ibiza Airport and a short drive from the UNESCO-listed streets of Ibiza Old Town, it enjoys one of the island's most desirable locations while feeling wonderfully removed from the busier party scene.
Santa Eulalia has long been considered Ibiza's more sophisticated neighbour. With its palm-lined promenade, independent boutiques, art galleries and thriving culinary scene, it offers visitors an authentic taste of island life without sacrificing style. Days are spent wandering local markets, discovering contemporary galleries or lingering over long seaside lunches before returning to the calm of the hotel. That easy-going atmosphere continues throughout W Ibiza. Bright, contemporary interiors draw inspiration from the island's natural beauty, with soft neutral tones, handcrafted details and splashes of colour reflecting Ibiza's famous sunsets and crystal-clear waters. The hotel's 154 rooms and suites are designed with comfort in mind, many featuring private terraces where mornings begin with sea views and evenings end with the gentle sound of the waves.
What truly sets W Ibiza apart is its seamless connection to the sea. As the only luxury hotel in Santa Eulalia with direct beach access and its own beach club, guests can move effortlessly between the golden sands and the hotel's vibrant social spaces. Whether spending the day beneath the Mediterranean sun or enjoying cocktails as the afternoon drifts into evening, there's an unmistakable sense of relaxed sophistication.
The hotel offers two very different pool experiences, each with its own distinct personality. The lively WET Deck provides a vibrant backdrop of music, cocktails and sunshine, while Glow, the adultsonly rooftop, offers a more tranquil setting with panoramic sea views stretching across the coastline. As the sun begins to set, Glow becomes one of the hotel's most magical spots, where golden skies and expertly crafted cocktails create the perfect end to another idyllic day.
Dining is equally diverse, reflecting both the international spirit of the W brand and the rich flavours of the Mediterranean. From relaxed breakfasts overlooking the sea to leisurely lunches and elegant evening dining, every venue embraces fresh seasonal ingredients and vibrant island flavours. Throughout the day, live music brings an unmistakable energy to the hotel, creating an atmosphere that feels effortlessly social without ever becoming overwhelming. For those looking to recharge, Away Spa offers a welcome sanctuary. A carefully curated menu of treatments, wellness experiences and relaxation rituals provides the perfect antidote to busy everyday life, while the fully equipped FIT gym allows guests to maintain their fitness routine before heading out to explore the island.
Of course, one of W Ibiza's greatest attractions is its location. Santa Eulalia's picturesque marina, lively cafés and boutique shopping are all within easy walking distance, while some of Ibiza's most beautiful beaches can be discovered just a short drive away. Whether exploring hidden coves, chartering a boat for the day or simply watching local life unfold along the waterfront, the hotel provides the ideal base from which to experience a more authentic side of the White Isle.
Like Ibiza itself, W Ibiza effortlessly balances contrasting moods. It is vibrant yet peaceful, luxurious yet wonderfully relaxed, contemporary yet deeply connected to the island's bohemian roots. Guests can spend their days immersed in wellness, culture or adventure before returning for sunset cocktails, live music and evenings beneath the stars.
For travellers looking beyond Ibiza's famous nightlife, W Ibiza reveals an altogether different rhythm, one where the island's natural beauty, creative spirit and Mediterranean lifestyle take centre stage. Stylish, welcoming and perfectly positioned on one of Ibiza's most picturesque stretches of coastline, it's a destination that captures the true essence of modern island luxury. BOOK IT

Two Countries. One Luxury Escape Luxury travel is often about making the most of every moment, and thanks to the recent easing of routine land border checks between Gibraltar and Spain, one of Europe's most unique twindestination escapes has become even more effortless. At the heart of it all is Sunborn Gibraltar, the world's first five-star floating yacht hotel. Permanently moored in the exclusive Ocean Village Marina, the striking superyacht offers a stay unlike anywhere else in Europe, combining contemporary luxury with spectacular views across the Rock of Gibraltar, the marina and the sparkling Strait beyond.
Stepping aboard feels less like checking into a hotel and more like arriving on your own private yacht. Elegant interiors, spacious suites and expansive waterfront terraces create a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, while attentive service and exceptional dining make it easy to spend an entire weekend without ever wanting to leave. Of course, the beauty of Sunborn Gibraltar lies not only in the hotel itself, but in its extraordinary location.
Gibraltar has always been one of Europe's most fascinating destinations. British heritage blends effortlessly with Mediterranean charm, creating a culture unlike anywhere else. Within minutes of leaving the marina, visitors can wander colourful streets lined with cafés, independent boutiques and historic landmarks before taking the famous cable car to the summit of the Rock, where panoramic views stretch across two continents.
Wild Barbary macaques, dramatic coastal walks and centuries of military history provide plenty to discover, while dolphin-watching cruises offer an unforgettable way to experience the waters of Gibraltar Bay.
Now, with movement between Gibraltar and southern Spain becoming increasingly seamless, an entirely new dimension has opened up for luxury travellers.
Within a short drive lies Andalucía, where championship golf courses, glamorous marinas, beach clubs and Michelin-worthy dining await. Spend the morning exploring Gibraltar before crossing into Spain for an afternoon at one of Sotogrande's elegant beach clubs, an unhurried lunch overlooking the Mediterranean or a round on one of Europe's finest golf courses before returning to the comfort of Sunborn for sunset. It is this effortless combination that makes the destination so appealing. Rather than choosing between two countries, visitors can experience both in a single escape, moving between British tradition and Spanish lifestyle almost without noticing the border at all.
Back on board, evenings are best spent on the hotel's upper deck, where cocktails are served against a backdrop of glittering marina lights and spectacular sunsets. Watching the last light disappear across the Strait towards the distant mountains of North Africa is a reminder that few hotels enjoy such an extraordinary setting.
Dining continues the experience with beautifully prepared Mediterranean cuisine, while luxurious accommodation provides the perfect sanctuary after days spent exploring both sides of the border. As travellers increasingly seek experiences rather than simply destinations, Sunborn Gibraltar offers something refreshingly different. It is a place where luxury extends beyond elegant surroundings to include freedom, flexibility and the opportunity to experience two remarkable cultures in one seamless itinerary. For those planning their next Mediterranean escape, there has never been a more exciting time to discover Gibraltar. Combining the sophistication of a five-star superyacht hotel with the newly enhanced ease of exploring southern Spain, Sunborn Gibraltar has become more than simply a luxury place to stay.
It has become the gateway to one of Europe's most distinctive and rewarding luxury escapes. For more information or to book, visit www.sunborngibraltar.com.

Tuscany's Stylish New Escape
There are few places that capture the romance of Italy quite like Tuscany. Rolling vineyards, ancient olive groves and hilltop villages have long lured travellers seeking la dolce vita, but a new arrival is bringing a fresh perspective to this much-loved landscape.
Set within a beautifully restored 17th-century borgo in the heart of Chianti, Chapter Chianti blends centuries of history with contemporary style, creating a retreat that feels effortlessly sophisticated while remaining deeply rooted in its surroundings.
As the second property from the team behind the lively Chapter Roma, this countryside escape swaps the city's vibrant streets for vineyards and cypress-lined hills, yet retains the same sense of personality that made its Roman sister so popular. Rather than the hushed formality often associated with luxury country hotels, Chapter Chianti has an easy-going confidence. It's stylish without trying too hard, elegant without feeling exclusive, and designed for guests who appreciate beautiful spaces as much as memorable experiences. Surrounded by more than 50 hectares of vineyards, olive groves and gardens, the hotel immediately immerses you in the Tuscan landscape. The original stone buildings have been lovingly restored, while inside, acclaimed designer Tristan du Plessis has introduced a contemporary aesthetic that complements rather than competes with the property's history. Original staircases, vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework sit comfortably alongside handcrafted furniture, tactile natural materials and carefully chosen artwork, creating interiors that feel warm, relaxed and unmistakably Italian. Rich earthy tones mirror the colours beyond the windows, allowing the landscape to remain the star of the show.
The hotel's 82 rooms and suites continue this understated approach, offering calming spaces filled with natural light, thoughtful design and views across the surrounding countryside. Every detail feels considered without becoming overdesigned, allowing guests to settle into the slower rhythm of rural Tuscany. Food, naturally, takes centre stage.
At Osso, the hotel's signature restaurant, Tuscan cooking is celebrated
aug26.qxp_Layout 1 26/07/2026 19:11 Page 51
with confidence rather than complication. Seasonal ingredients, locally sourced produce and regional specialities are transformed into generous, flavour-led dishes that showcase the best of the area. Dining here feels authentic rather than theatrical, with every plate reflecting the traditions of the region while embracing a lighter, contemporary touch. For long summer afternoons, the Parasole Pool Bar offers Mediterranean-inspired dishes served beside the pool, while evenings naturally drift towards the stylish Main Bar, where expertly crafted cocktails, live music and a lively atmosphere bring an unexpected cosmopolitan edge to the Tuscan countryside. An impressive wine list, showcasing over 120 labels with a strong focus on Chianti producers, provides the perfect excuse to explore one of Italy's most celebrated wine regions.
Wellness is equally woven into the experience. The hotel's beautifully designed F.A.R.M Social Spa combines thermal facilities, hydrotherapy pools, treatment rooms and a state-of-the-art fitness space with a philosophy centred on restoration rather than routine. Whether unwinding with a bespoke massage, enjoying the Roman-inspired bathing circuit or joining a yoga session overlooking the vineyards, every experience encourages guests to slow down and reconnect.
Beyond the hotel, Tuscany becomes your playground. Days can be spent horseback riding through vineyards, hunting for seasonal truffles, wandering olive groves or taking to the skies in a hot-air balloon as the rolling Chianti hills unfold beneath you. Cooking classes invite guests to master handmade pasta and traditional Tuscan dishes using the estate's original communal stone oven, while guided e-bike tours reveal hidden corners of the countryside rarely discovered by passing visitors.
The changing seasons bring new experiences too, from leisurely summer picnics beneath ancient olive trees to autumn harvest celebrations, intimate wine tastings and even bespoke fragrance workshops inspired by the scents of Tuscany itself. What makes Chapter Chianti particularly appealing is that it doesn't rely solely on its spectacular setting. Instead, it has created a destination with genuine personality, somewhere that respects the traditions of Tuscany while introducing a fresh, contemporary energy.
For those looking to experience Chianti beyond the postcardperfect scenery, Chapter Chianti offers exactly that: a luxurious retreat where exceptional food, thoughtful design and authentic experiences come together in one of Italy's most beautiful regions. It feels modern, welcoming and effortlessly stylish, proof that even in one of the world's most timeless destinations, there's always room for a new chapter. Where Championship Golf Meets Five-Star Relaxation
There's something lovely about arriving somewhere that immediately makes you slow down. The Belfry Hotel & Resort has long been known as one of Britain's most iconic golf resorts, but as we pulled up outside, I quickly realised you certainly don't need a handicap to enjoy everything this beautiful resort has to offer. Stepping inside, our eyes were immediately drawn upwards to one of the most impressive chandeliers I've seen. Cascading dramatically through the lobby, it's crafted entirely from golf clubs, a striking centrepiece that perfectly reflects The Belfry's legendary golfing heritage whilst adding a touch of contemporary glamour. The sun was shining, so rather than heading straight to our room, we did what any sensible person would do, found the nearest terrace. An Aperol Spritz at Sam's Bar & Kitchen, affectionately known as the 19th Hole, seemed like the perfect way to begin our stay. Sitting outside overlooking the course, we watched golfers make their way around the immaculate greens, quietly analysing every swing as though we knew exactly what we were talking about. It's one of those places where time disappears without you really noticing. Eventually, and with some reluctance, we dragged ourselves away to discover our room.
Opening the door, the first thing we did was head straight for the balcony. The view across the famous Brabazon Course is simply beautiful. Rolling fairways stretched out in front of us, golfers dotted the landscape below and there was a wonderful feeling of calm as we stood taking it all in. It was one of those moments where you instantly unpack a little slower because there's absolutely no rush to be anywhere else.
Inside, our room was spacious, beautifully designed and wonderfully comfortable, with soft neutral colours and everything needed for a relaxing stay.
Then came a lovely little piece of Belfry gossip. Apparently, these very rooms, complete with their interconnecting doors, were once home to Ozzy, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne during a stay at the resort. Safe to say our evening was probably not quite so wild! Pouring a glass of wine, it was time to head back out onto the balcony and soak it all in. The promise of only staying a few minutes evaporated quickly and an hour later, we were still there. There was something incredibly calming about the whole setting, the sweeping views, the peaceful
aug26.qxp_Layout 1 26/07/2026 19:11 Page 53
surroundings and the gentle soundtrack of golfers finishing their day. It was impossible not to unwind, and one of those rare moments where you genuinely don't want to move.
As the sun began to set, we headed downstairs for pre-dinner drinks in The Brabazon Bar. The moment you walk in, it’s easy to see why it’s considered the social heart of The Belfry. Centred around its striking circular bar beneath the beautiful glass atrium, the space feels effortlessly elegant, with stylish seating, soft lighting and a wonderful buzz that fills the room as guests gather for cocktails before dinner. Dinner was served in Ryder Restaurant, where we experienced the resort's renowned buffet. Now, if the word buffet conjures up images of tired hotel food, think again.
This is something entirely different. Beautifully presented stations showcase dishes inspired by cuisines from around the world, all freshly prepared using seasonal ingredients. We found ourselves wandering back more than once, discovering something different each time. From delicate nibbles and vibrant salads to hearty mains and desserts that were impossible to resist.
Our evening didn’t end here, after dinner we took a gentle stroll through the immaculate gardens before arriving at the spa, where we immersed ourselves in the Fire & Ice Experience.
Moving between the warmth of the aromatic steam rooms and the invigorating hydrotherapy pool was wonderfully restorative. Each room offers a different sensory experience, encouraging you to slow down, breathe a little deeper and simply be present. A relaxing facial followed and had me drifting off into a gentle trance emerging afterwards with glowing skin and feeling lighter than I had in weeks. After a wonderfully peaceful night's sleep, we woke to coffee on the balcony, before enjoying a leisurely breakfast. Fresh pastries, seasonal fruit and perfectly cooked hot dishes meant there was no need to rush the morning.
Before heading home, there was just one thing left to do. It would have been rude to leave The Belfry without attempting to hit at least a few golf balls.
So we made our way over to the Derby Course. Let's just say there were a handful of shots that looked reasonably professional and several others that definitely brought back memories of a crazy golf course! Thankfully there were no trophies at stake, only plenty of fun and laughter.
That's perhaps what surprised me most about The Belfry. Yes, it's steeped in golfing history. Yes, the facilities are exceptional. But what stayed with me wasn't the famous fairways or championship pedigree. It was sitting on our balcony with a glass of wine as the sun disappeared across the Brabazon Course. It was laughing over an Aperol Spritz at the 19th Hole. It was slowing down for a spa evening when the rest of the world carried on outside. Luxury isn't always about extravagance. Sometimes it's simply having the time and the space to enjoy every single moment and The Belfry gives you exactly that. BOOK IT

Boffenigo Where Time Becomes the Ultimate Luxury
There is a different way to experience Lake Garda. One that is quieter, more authentic and refreshingly unhurried. Perched high in the hills of Costermano, Boffenigo – The Golden Hour offers a luxury escape that isn't defined by extravagance, but by something far more valuable – time. Overlooking one of the most breathtaking panoramas on Lake Garda, this elegant four-star superior retreat has created a sanctuary where guests are encouraged to slow down, switch off and reconnect with both nature and themselves. Here, luxury is found not in excess, but in atmosphere, thoughtful hospitality and those rare moments when life feels perfectly balanced. Everything at Boffenigo revolves around its signature philosophy: The Golden Hour. More than simply the magical period before sunset, it represents a state of mind. As the evening light bathes the lake in warm golden tones, the hotel's terraces and gardens become the setting for a beautiful daily ritual. Soft music drifts through the air as guests gather to watch the sun disappear behind the mountains, transforming an ordinary sunset into an unforgettable experience. It's a reminder that the most memorable moments are often the simplest. Nature is woven into every aspect of the hotel. Expansive landscaped gardens overlook the lake, creating peaceful spaces for morning yoga, quiet walks among olive trees or simply sitting with a book beneath the Italian sunshine. For those keen to explore, scenic walking trails and traditional or electric bicycles provide the perfect opportunity to discover the surrounding countryside at a gentle pace.
The outdoor infinity pool naturally becomes the heart of the hotel during the day, offering spectacular lake views from every sun lounger. Indoors, the heated thermal-water pool provides a more tranquil retreat, inviting guests to unwind in complete peace while enjoying the soothing benefits of the water. The sense of wellbeing continues at the elegant Aurum Spa, where relaxation takes centre stage. Guests can enjoy the Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, bio-sauna, emotional showers and peaceful relaxation lounges before indulging in a carefully curated selection of massages and personalised face and body treatments using premium Comfort Zone products. A fully equipped fitness suite completes the hotel's holistic approach to wellness.
Dining follows the same philosophy of effortless elegance. At the panoramic Terrazza del Boff restaurant, Mediterranean cuisine is given a fresh, contemporary twist through seasonal ingredients, locally sourced produce and

beautifully balanced dishes. From leisurely breakfasts overlooking the gardens to romantic dinners as the sun sets across Lake Garda, every meal becomes part of the experience.
The hotel's 80 rooms and suites reflect the same understated style found throughout the property. Soft natural tones, elegant furnishings and abundant natural light create calming spaces designed for rest and relaxation. For an even more indulgent stay, the five exclusive suites offer spacious terraces overlooking the lake, private whirlpool tubs and, in the exceptional Spa Suite, a private wellness area complete with its own sauna and Turkish bath. What makes Boffenigo truly special isn't simply its spectacular setting or luxurious facilities, impressive though they are. It's the feeling the hotel creates from the moment you arrive. Life slows down. Conversations last a little longer. Sunsets become events in themselves. Time is no longer something to chase, but something to savour. As the final rays of sunshine melt into Lake Garda and gentle music fills the evening air, you begin to understand the true meaning of The Golden Hour. It isn't simply a moment in the day; it's a way of experiencing life.
At Boffenigo, luxury isn't something that needs to be announced. It's found in the silence, the scenery and the simple pleasure of having nowhere else you need to be. And that may just be the greatest luxury of all. For more information or to book, visit www.boffenigo.com/en.
