GOPA AFC’s Key Services

By promoting sustainable and climate-smart practices, we strengthen productivity, enhance value chains, and foster inclusive economic growth. Farmers, SMEs, and governments alike benefit from innovative, evidence-based solutions that secure food systems and support greener, more competitive markets.

Climate & Water Agriculture & Agribusiness

We empower communities to adapt to climate change and manage water resources responsibly. Our work in agroecology, irrigation, and green infrastructure helps safeguard natural resources while building resilience for the future.

Financial Sector Development

We expand financial inclusion by shaping robust financial ecosystems. From central banks to cooperatives, our tailored solutions—spanning green and blended finance, credit and savings mechanisms, and institutional capacity building—enable businesses and communities to thrive through better access to finance.

Agriculture & Agribusiness

Agricultural Value Chains include all activities and stakeholders involved in bringing agricultural products from farm to table. GOPA AFC prioritizes working within these value chains, providing advisory services to national authorities, private businesses, and food associations. We support producers, establish producer organizations, improve market structures, and implement EU-standard quality management systems. This approach conserves resources, adds value, and ensures growth, focusing on comprehensive solutions, sustainability, and quality management.

Promoting agribusiness is crucial for sustainable economic development, food security, and poverty reduction. GOPA AFC supports MSMEs, processors, input providers, and traders with tailored strategies and practical solutions to maximize potential. Focus areas include product development, process optimization, and market access. We also assist emerging economies with trade agreements, promotion, and finance. Leveraging global experience and strategic alliances with the GOPA Consulting Group, we deliver customized solutions for the agribusiness industry.

Agroecology and Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) are essential for adapting to and mitigating climate change impacts on agroecosystems. Rising temperatures and extreme weather threaten water availability, health, and crop performance, requiring measures like shading and irrigation. Regenerative agriculture and organic farming support sustainable food systems, while CSA technologies enhance food security by reducing climate risks and increasing profitability. GOPA AFC promotes these practices to build a sustainable food system and highlights their benefits to farmers, consumers, policymakers, and businesses globally.

The Sustainable Employment through Agribusiness (AgriBiz) project in Ghana is a collaboration with esteemed partners, including the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the European Union (EU). This initiative aims to improve conditions for productive employment in MSMEs within the agribusiness sector. GOPA AFC supports 500 agribusiness MSMEs to increase profits, and arine up to solutio s priet circular economy concepts, and supports sustainable agricultural practices through practical training and capacity development.

Financial Sector Development

GOPA AFC is actively involved in green & climate finance by advising financial institutions globally on developing and implementing green strategies. We help create climate-friendly financial products, train staff on climate risks, and support the transition to sustainable economies. Our services include developing green loan products, performing environmental and social due diligence, and assisting companies in preparing green investment loan applications. We implement projects such as regional off-grid electricity access in West Africa and renewable energy initiatives in Bangladesh.

We further specialize in agricultural finance by providing tailored advisory services to farmers and agribusinesses. We offer capacity-building activities, training, and support for developing financial products and delivery channels. Our projects, like the “Promotion of agricultural finance for agribased enterprises in rural areas” in Nigeria, help farmers access finance, improve their livelihoods, and promote sustainable agricultural growth. Additionally, we focus on climate smart agriculture finance, assisting banks in adapting loan products to better serve the agricultural sector, with an emphasis on digital solutions and financial inclusion.

We enhance SME finance through capacity building and training for financial service providers. Our services include developing financial products, improving service delivery channels, conducting institutional diagnostics, and offering specialized training in credit risk management, business planning, and financial analysis. Additionally, we support SMEs with training in customer care, financial management, and business growth. By fostering effective financial markets, we improve access, usage, and quality of SME finance. For example, we implement projects like Access to Finance in Laos and Financing for Innovative Start-ups in Egypt.

The Climate-Friendly Agribusiness Value Chains Project in Laos aims to enhance agricultural competitiveness and promote sustainable technologies. We administer a matching grant scheme and smallholder financing to support SMEs and agricultural production groups. By providing direct grants and strengthening financial sector capacity, the project helps farmers adopt climate-smart practices and improve resource efficiency. Operating in several provinces, this initiative drives economic growth, environmental sustainability, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Climate & Water

MetaMeta’s expertise in Irrigation Management addresses some of the most important challenges in agriculture production: sustainably improving water productivity, modernizing irrigation systems, and sustainable resource allocation under constrained supply. We provide tailored solutions that bridge technical expertise with socio-environmental considerations, ensuring that irrigation and drainage systems support both agricultural productivity and ecosystem health. We also address salinity issues in agricultural fields, restoring soil fertility and enhancing better practices for its maintenance.

Our Green Infrastructures approach reimagines urban and transport infrastructure as tools for water management and climate resilience, turning challenges into opportunities for sustainable development. Our interventions protect water supply systems and ensure resilience to extreme climatic events. We include Nature Based Solutions in urban design to flood-prove cities and towns. We also design roads with water in mind, capturing and directing water flows, reducing erosion, preventing floods, and providing vital resources for agriculture, groundwater recharge, and ecosystem restoration.

Our work with Lanscapes & Local Climates is based on landscapes reshaping climatic conditions. We perform remote sensing combined with on-field data collection to promote accessible approaches together with local partners and communities. By restoring vegetation, improving water retention, and enhancing water cycles, landscapes can buffer against rising temperatures and climate extremes. This is not just about resilience—it is about rebuilding natural climate regulation at the scale where people live and work.

The Water Productivity Improvement in Practice (Water-PIP) project aimed to improve water productivity by 25% in agricultural systems. MetaMeta supported the setup of local water productivity Service Centers in Ethiopia, Kenya and Sudan., which service farmers with free data from the FAO’s WaPOR portal to support decision making. MetaMeta also worked closely with farmers to ascertain irrigation scheme performance, supported national policy reviews on water productivity, and lead a global hackathon to unlock the potential of the WaPOR database.
