Welcome ASFF opens on Thursday 8th November and continues until Sunday 11th November. The time for short film across the city of York has come again, and the Aesthetica team couldn’t be more excited. The judging and programming process has, once again, been a fantastic journey. We are delighted to screen films from over 20 countries in a rich and diverse programme, expanding choice for you, the viewers. Genres include drama, documentary, music video, artists’ film, comedy, thriller, animation and experimental. This year’s masterclasses include Danny Cohen (The King’s Speech) in partnership with BAFTA on cinematography, Warp Films on the latest in film production, Raindance, Channel 4, a lively panel discussion on the implications of film criticism, Chris Jones, author of The Guerilla Film Maker’s Handbook, and award-winning screenwriter Matt Greenhalgh (Nowhere Boy and Control). We have a number of events for networking, such as Meet the Filmmakers, as well as special screening programmes from BAFTA, Warp Films and Yorkshire Film Archive. It’s going to be a weekend fuelled by creativity with the added bonus of experiencing the best in new and innovative independent filmmaking. Due to the historical nature of some of our venues, seating is allocated on a first come, first served basis. However, we have programmed enough screenings to ensure you’ll be able to see all of the films that you would like to, but if there is a specific film that you’d like to see, please arrive at the venue early. All films are up for an award in their category alongside Best of Fest and the People’s Choice Award. We look forward to welcoming you to ASFF 2012.
