THE SMART CORRIDOR VIRGINIA AVE. SMART CORRIDOR STUDY Written by Kirsten Mote The Aerotropolis Atlanta Community Improvement Districts (AACIDs) recently drafted the Virginia Avenue Corridor Plan. [Click the brochure to the right to download a copy of the draft plan.] However, the AACIDs and the Atlanta Regional Commission saw a need to include Smart Cities initiatives into the corridor and decided to conduct a supplemental study focusing on existing and emerging technologies.

In support of the ARC’s Livable centers Imitative Program, the AACIDs is leading this Virginia Avenue Smart Corridor Study. AACIDs solicited the Study through a public Request for Proposals and subsequently selected and contracted with Modern Mobility Partners and their team to conduct the study.

Modern Mobility Partners will be examining technology options for elements to improve safety, walkability and mobility along the Virginia Avenue corridor from US 29/Main Street on the west end to South Central Avenue on the east end. The project will develop needs and a vision for technology along the corridor, as well as a phasing and implementation plan.

The team held a project kick-off on January 10th. The first phase will focus on visioning and the needs for the corridor. The AACIDs will be hosting the first Public Meeting on March 14th from 5-7pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

CONGRATULATIONS Our very own Gerald McDowell has been recognized by Georgia Trend Magazine for the second straight year! Gerald has served as Executive Director of the Aerotropolis Atlanta CIDs since 2015. His over 20 years of operational and leadership experience are highly effective and invaluable to both the Aerotropolis CIDs team and community.

We are proud to salute his support and efforts in our community and honored to call him a 2019 Notable Georgian!

Consider the importance of an RSVP or reply: 1. It helps the planner of the event plan for food and adequate meeting/event space.

2. It helps determine if quorum will be met for a board meeting.

3. For ticketed or sponsored events, it helps to know how many seats are needed for a table.

4. It shows the person/ company you are appreciative of the invitation, even if you cannot attend.

5. It’s courteous and demonstrates professional etiquette.
