2021 has proven to be an exciting and busy time for the transportation industry and AE! We are fortunate to work in such an important arena and continue to focus on providing quality services and developing our project teams. Despite industry and outside challenges such as the pandemic, we will keep putting our best foot forward. We pray that everyone continues to remain safe and vigilant as we move forward in this climate. We can’t thank our clients and teaming partners enough for trusting us with their projects at this time. We are also thankful for our amazing employees who work extremely hard and are the backbone of our firm. In 2021, our goal has been to focus on staff development and engagement. You will continue to see these efforts realized in our day-to-day work efforts and company interactions. We wanted to recognize exceptional staff members and launched our Employee Recognition Program. Each month stellar performance and contributions will be recognized; we’ve highlighted the first six in this issue of our newsletter. We thank you ALL for your efforts and hope that everyone has an awesome summer!!

AE has continued to grow and is working towards expanding into the State of Georgia. We are now a State of Georgia-certified DBE and MBE, and have recently acquired property in Southern Georgia to establish an office and stand-alone materials testing laboratory - more details coming soon! One thing is for sure, we are excited about this growth and look forward to serving our Georgia-based clients. In the meantime, we will continue with our efforts to expand our brand in Florida, with a permanent Broward County office located directly across from FDOT to supplement this growth in our home state! AE provided CEI services on the I-75 FRAME (Florida’s Regional Advanced Mobility Elements) project located on the I-75 and US 301/441 corridors, connecting east-west arterials between these two corridors in Central Florida. The purpose of this project was to re-route traffic from I-75 to US 301/441 using east to west arterials, such as SR 500, SR 200, and SR 40, during emergencies and incident management efforts. This project was part of the larger Central Office program submitted as part of the 2016 Advanced Transportation and Congestion Management Technologies Deployment (ATCMTD) application to lessen the recurring and non-recurring congestion on I-75 between Gainesville and Wildwood/Ocala region. The project encompassed both FDOT District Two and Five jurisdictions, where the northern and southern areas of this regional effort are located along the I-75 corridor. The deployment of new technologies provide the capabilities to better manage, operate, and maintain the multi-modal system and create an integrated corridor management solution. project include Cellular Vehicle to Everything (C-V2X), Roadside Units (RSU), and On-Board Units (OBU) to facilitate the operation of Signal Phase and Timing (SPAT), Traveler Information Messages (TIM), Emergency Vehicle Preemption, and other applications. Additionally, this project included the deployment of hardware for Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPM), Transit Signal Priority (TSP), pedestrian safety elements, and fiber optic communications along US 301/441.
Real-time information is disseminated to motorists during freeway incidents.

When did you start with AE? August 2017 What do you do in your role? I manage AE’s contracts from execution to closeout/recovery. This involves lots of things such as contract preparation, project start-up, contract amendment preparation, task work order and scope development, budgeting, invoicing and project status reporting. I also issue subconsultant agreements and work directly with our clients. Something unique about you? I was born in London. I immigrated to the United States in 2004 and am now an American Citizen. What do you like to do for fun? Glamping with my husband, James, all over Florida in our retro camper. Anything else you’d like to share with the rest of the world? My husband and I are expecting our first baby – a baby girl – this November!

When did you start with AE? September 2020 What do you do in your role? Help our clients avoid and deal with the headaches of construction, ensure a quality product by working together with the contractor, owner and the maintaining agency, ensuring all parties have required information to avoid claims, and delays in construction. Something unique about you? During my last year of college, I was selected to attend a NASA Internship and had the opportunity to work with self-healing asphalt concrete. What do you like to do for fun? Wind surfing, kayaking, fishing, scuba diving… love being on the water and flying drones and RC planes. Anything else you’d like to share with the rest of the world? Always here to help.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT Jacksonville Transportation Authority, St. Johns River Ferry Phase IV Improvements
AE is currently providing CEI services for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority for this design-build project involving landside and waterside infrastructure and facilities improvements at each of the respective ferry landings in Mayport Village and on Ft. George Island.
A coordinated effort is needed to complete the landings, as work will be ongoing waterside and landside on each side of the river. The overall scope is focused primarily on pavement rehabilitation and markings, various Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements, new bulkheads and heavy mooring bollards, catwalk access, accessory/utilities building, public restroom facilities, as well as landscaping and lighting enhancements at each landing. Cost: $6.6M

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT Martin County, Murphy Road Bridge Replacement LAP Project, FIN 436425-1-58-01
Since March 2021, AE has been providing CEI services for the Murphy Road Bridge Replacement project near Port St. Lucie in Martin County, FL.
The project involves the removal and reconstruction of a 230’ long two-lane bridge over the C-23 Canal. The bridge will be demolished and reconstructed in phases so that one lane of traffic will remain open at all times during the construction. Project elements include replacement of bridge pilings, substructure construction, construction of a new precast deck slab bridge, relocation of an existing waterline, MOT, drainage improvements, and other incidental work. The project is approximately 20% complete and scheduled to be finished in April 2022. Cost: $4.5 M
