TINY HOUSE It is becoming a priority for architects to optimize projects that require increasingly smaller spaces, especially when building in urban areas where land value is often the most critical factor. People decide to move away from urban centers and bear with the lengthy commute time, while others are seeking creative design solutions to transform their home into a tiny, functional space to meet their daily needs.

BUILDING SECTION

YOGA ASHRAM IN UTTARAKHAND People are getting stressed, getting anxious and experiencing different type of health problems due to the adaptations of unhealthy life style. By following holistic living life style. People are getting healthier in all the aspects such as physically, mentally, and psychologically. So, in my research paper I have designed a yoga ashram based on the research articles and journals that have been studied earlier for this project. The proposed design would be sustainable to the environment and climate responsive by using passive heating techniques and setting the orientation of the buildings in appropriate direction, this project intends to save maximum energy from heating.

• The most natural structural configuration is to accommodate the shape of the slope in foundation arrangement through a step-back configuration. • This is basically achieved by providing separate foundations at gradually increasing levels. ❑ The term dhajji dewari comes from the Persian. ❑ Literally means “patchwork quilt wall”. ❑ Dhajji dewari consists of a complete timber frame that is integral with the masonry, which fills in the openings in the frame to form walls. ❑ The wall is commonly one-half brick in thickness, so that the timber and the Construction Details Elevation of Dhajji-Dewari masonry are flush on both sides. ❑ Walls with many smaller panels have performed better in earthquakes than those with fewer and larger panels. A dhajji wall is strong because: • The small panels distribute the earthquake energy evenly. • Friction between all small elements and their in-fills breaks down the energy. • There may be a lot of small cracks which are not dangerous. • But large destructive cracks become very rare. All species including human beings use this sense to help them in the survival in the environment. It helps in detection of spoiled food or escaping gas. smell qualities of any space provide it with special characteristics that differentiate it from all other spaces. These associations could be used in architecture. To stimulate emotions, to guide, or to distract.

Architecture can stimulate the sense of taste. In this case together with the sense of vision not with smell. Vision becomes transferred to taste. The taste in architecture does not literally mean to kneel down and try to eat the stone bricks, but it means that architecture can make our mouth water just by the sight of appealing materials.

• This is a heavier, more timber-intensive version of timberlaced masonry than taq and bhatar. • A combination of cribbage at the corners with timber bands, known as “cator and cribbage”. • The corners consist of a cribbage of timber filled with masonry. • These are connected with timber belts (cators) that extend across the walls. • These construction traditions have followed patterns of migration and cultural influence over centuries. • Historic mosques in Srinagar are of “cribbage” construction.

Sikkim Earthquake Case-study

Conclusion

❑ Environment and climate should be the most essential concern for architects. Elements like daylight, temperature, water, noise etc. can affect a humans physical and mental health. ❑ We behave and acts according to our designed environment. ❑ Our body gets information from our senses, so the surrounding influence our mental health. ❑ Architects should show concern about all the senses not only focusing on one. ❑ A space surrounded by different colors and shade could improve the quality of that space by making it more pleasant and productive. ❑ Avoid noisy spaces for well being centers. ❑ Nice fragrance plant reduce the stress level so landscaping is must. ❑ Choosing of materials carries lot of importance in a user behavior towards the space.

Sikkim faced earthquake of M6.9 on September 18, 2011. Gangtok was 100km away from the epicentre. RC frame buildings were heavily damaged. 2 high rise RC frame building in Gangtok were collapsed. This unusual failure of RC frame building motivated the authors to take up the analytical study summarized above to understand seismic behavior of RC frame buildings on hill slopes. Sikkim earthquake highlighted the peculiar failure pattern of hill buildings. Under along-slope excitation, the varying heights of columns cause stiffness irregularity. The short columns resist almost all of the shear pressure. Traditional buildings performed well in earthquake.

Refers to the modular layout of the piers and window bays. Consists of : load-bearing masonry walls +horizontal timbers embedded in • Timbers are tied together and laid into the walls at each floor level and at the window lintel level. • Serve to hold the masonry walls together • Tie them to the floors Important factor in the structural integrity of taq • Full weight of the masonry is allowed • Bear on the timber lacing • The ends of the floor joists penetrate the exterior walls holding them in place. • Timbers in turn keep the masonry from spreading. ❑ It does not have elements-which could shift this overburden weight of the masonry off and onto columns buried in the walls. ❑ It is this weight, and the resulting compression of the mud-laid masonry. ❑ Essential component of what it needs in order to resist the earthquake forces. Application : In Srinagar this modular pier and bay design and the timber-laced load-bearing masonry pier and wall system go together, the name has come to identify the structural system as well.

➢ Universal design for blind people in educational institutional. ➢ By providing railings on the corridor to guide them and also by making the surface rough.

• The touch sense is connected with the choice of materials we use. • Thus, the materials employed in any house have a clear result on the user, the variations between the materials from the degree of hardness and softness, rigidity and adaptability, lightness and heaviness, etc. • For blind people, touching sense is used the most. Through architecture we can guide them them.

AUDITORY

• The visual Sense and also the auditory sense are the key senses for perceiving and understanding the atmosphere. • Not all sounds within the atmosphere have negative effects on the human beings; some sounds have positive effects on each the psychological and also the physiological status. Music for fast, (not all quite music) might decrease the stress level and make the mood better. • As well, it might scale back the affected by pain and increase the sensation of relaxation and luxury. The result of Noise • Expected effects of exposure to noise is that the hearing impairment. • Noise has a lot of damaging effects on the hearing sense. • Noise is considered to be best-known stressors, • People don't like to stay in a noisy community or neighborhood. • Frequent exposure to noise is coupled with severe and chronic diseases. • Noise is also the most reason behind a range of physiological changes that will contribute to those diseases. • Top level of noise may cause the rise in arousal and stress

VISION

Earthquake resistant construction and safety regulations is the most serious concern for planning and design of buildings in hill regions. • Many vernacular have good response during previous earthquakes. • presently adopted construction practices in hilly areas do not have good earthquake response and may result in serious damage. • Therefore, vernacular practices with suitable modifications can be adopted for design and construction of earthquake resistant buildings in hill regions.

➢ Waiting lobby has a view of amphitheatre and so the centre of the building. ➢ Not only the landscaping around the lobby make people engage with outside but also doesn’t bore them.

around the site. Trees like neem, banyan etc are best known for healing properties through their presence itself. The fragrances help to recover. • Walking on the grass with barefoot helps the blood pressure to function better.

• Architecture an important part of our environment disturbs our experiences, feelings, memories and ultimately decision we make. • Everything created by man has an effect on his environment. • We all live with it and have an unconscious impression on it. • We understand buildings through our senses. • The senses felt by the eyes, ears, nose, mouth and skin. • The integration of senses using reason and logic.

• Visual qualities of areas dominate our perception of a building. • Daylighting has been related to improved mood, increased morale, less fatigue, and reduced asthenopia. • Bright lighting is create alertness, and well-daylighted areas are perceived by occupants to be “better" than dim gloomy ones. • There's a general perception that daylight ought to be the first source of illumination for the sake of our health and well-being. • In dwellings show that natural light-weight is that the single most significant attribute in a very home, with over hour of respondents ranking it as vital Building interiors ought to be designed in a very manner that allows the human got to be joined to the natural environment by minimising overshadowing and permitting distant views. A natural view is most popular to a view towards the man-made environment, and a large and distant view is appreciated A view to nature could have a positive influence on people’s • sense of well-being • higher subjective health • higher environmental satisfaction • better mood reduced health issues • job satisfaction • recovery of surgical patients • seating preference
