GUARDIAN ANGELS CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL COMMUNITY CONNECT BUSINESS DIRECTORY 2026 ISSUE 6

Page 1

Vision & Mission

The Guardian Angels’ VISION and MISSION is a very important document because it describes the hopes and dreams for our school community and expresses who we are, what we do and how we do it... in fact we could call our vision and mission THE GA WAY!

Principal’s Message

Welcome to the 2026 Guardian Angels’ Catholic School Business Directory!

It’s a proud milestone to be introducing the fifth edition of our Business Directory – a true reflection of the strong and supportive community that continues to grow around Guardian Angels’. At the heart of our school is the deep connection between staff, students and families, and this directory is just one of the many ways we celebrate and strengthen that bond.

This publication offers our families easy access to important school information, along with a wide range of trusted local businesses – many of which are run by GA families or have strong links to our school. By supporting these businesses, you’re not just shopping local – you’re supporting the people who support our school.

At Guardian Angels’, we remain focused on nurturing each student’s unique potential in an ever-evolving world. Every child brings with them a natural curiosity and joy for learning –qualities we’re proud to foster through our rich learning environments, dedicated staff and strong values. With the support of our wider community, we empower our students to be courageous learners, compassionate friends and future leaders – all while living out our school motto: “Striving for Success.”

We hope this directory proves helpful throughout the year – and that it also reminds us how lucky we are to be part of such a caring, committed school community.

A heartfelt thank you to all the families and businesses who’ve contributed to this edition, and especially to Ben Ryan and his team for bringing it all together so professionally. Happy reading, and thank you for being part of the GA story.

Warm regards,

Meet the Leadership Team

What’s one thing you think makes GA different from other schools? The GA community is, in my humble opinion, what makes our school that much better than the rest. They all love getting together to celebrate, connect or to help.

What’s your favourite memory from your time at GA so far? I really enjoy seeing the students sing our school song, it connects each student from prep to Year 6 with the staff and our community.

What are you most looking forward to this year at GA? I am looking forward to seeing how our students start to use the new library facility when it opens. I really think they will love the new layout.

What’s something new you’ve learned recently that excited or surprised you? I recently learned how to cook a traditional spaghetti carbonara, something that straight away takes me back to Italy.

What is a good book you have read lately and what did you like about it? I re-read Clarity by Lyn Sharratt, I appreciate all that we do here at GA and this book connects best research-based practice to the way we do our work.

Can you share a moment at GA that made you feel proud to be part of the community? GA is an incredibly generous community and there are many times when we have supported social justice initiatives that have helped others in our local community and around the world. I feel incredibly proud every time we give others a hand up.

If you could describe GA in three words, what would they be and why? Welcoming – GA always feels like home to me and I hope that others feel that sense of belonging too. Joyful – GA offers so many fun opportunities for everyone to come together to celebrate and enjoy the company of friends. Blessed – GA is so fortunate to have great staff, great families, great children and the very best opportunities and facilities to make learning exciting and meaningful.

If you could add something new to the school, what would it be? I would love a big labyrinth somewhere in our beautiful outdoors that we could walk and meditate on, bringing a sense of calm and perspective to those who journey on the pathway.

Who has inspired you at GA and how? Every day, I am inspired by GA learners who show courage and determination by trying new things without fearing failure and taking up every opportunity that our amazing school offers.

What is a good book you have read lately and what did you like about it? I have recently enjoyed the book Australia Day by Stan Grant. It was thought provoking and presented a different perspective that helped me to grow in my understanding of First Nations peoples’ histories and cultures.

What does “Striving for Success” mean to you in everyday life at school?

It means doing your best, even when something feels hard, and knowing that effort, curiosity, and kindness matter just as much as results.

What’s your favourite school event or tradition – and what makes it special to you? I love the moments when our whole community comes together, because you can feel the pride, belonging, and shared joy that make this school feel like home.

What’s your biggest hope for the future – for yourself, or for our school community? My hope is that our children grow into confident, compassionate thinkers who know their voice matters and use it to make the world kinder.

What’s a challenge you overcame at school, and what did it teach you? Performing on a stage was a big challenge the first time I was asked to do it as a Year 7 student at GA. Learning something that didn’t come easily taught me persistence, patience, and that real growth often happens just outside our comfort zone.

What is a good book you have read lately and what did you like about it? Last year I read 84 books, and it is difficult to name just one. The great books I’ve read recently made me stop and think, they reminded me that stories help us understand ourselves and others more deeply.

Our Parish

At Guardian Angels’, families, school and parish work together as partners in the spiritual formation and education of our children. From the very beginnings, Guardian Angels’ has been steeped in a rich Catholic tradition that stems from the close connection we have with our Church community. Father Gerard McMorrow is the Parish Priest and has a strong and positive interest in our school community.

Our students are encouraged to actively participate in the Parish through Liturgies, Class and Family Masses, Altar Serving and through the Parish-Based Sacramental Program. Sacramental preparation, through the Parish-Based Sacramental Program, is for students wishing to celebrate Baptism, Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation. By promoting and aspiring towards the values implicit in the Gospels, it is our intention that all students at Guardian Angels’ Strive for Success.

High Potential & High Performance Learners

At Guardian Angels’ Catholic Primary School, we’re focused on preparing every child for the ever-changing world around them.

We aim to be a vibrant learning community that supports and challenges each student. For children who show high potential – whether it’s intellectual, creative, physical, socialemotional or perceptual – we create learning environments that help them thrive. These students are given access to rich, engaging learning opportunities that are tailored to their individual strengths, interests and goals, in line with the Australian Curriculum.

Below is our framework for High Potential and High-Performance Learners

GA Swimming

We are privileged to have our own pool. Swimming is an integral part of our school. We run in school lesson for all students. There is also opportunity to participate in our before or after school programme.

We have our very own swim club, where we compete at meets on the Gold Coast. We support GA students at all levels of swimming - school, Catholics, Districts, State and Nationals.

Please connect with our wonderful pool staff if you have any questions via- PASN Pool pasnpool@bne.catholic.edu.au.

GA Community Connect

All parents who enrol children at Guardian Angels’ are part of a wonderful community. We have a “Class Angel” for each class who attends termly meetings with the leadership team. They connect with parents in their class to suggest improvements, voice concerns and communicate with the school.

We also ask parents to help with some key events through our “Just One Thing” model where we provide community and student events. Each year we send a list of main community events and ask parents to help with “Just One Thing”. Committees are formed to help organise and run our community events.

Attendance

We all want our students to get a great education and, as we know, the building blocks for success in learning begin with students coming to school each day. Brisbane Catholic Education’s approach to supporting student attendance has a focus on every student on time every day. There are 5 key principles:

1. Attendance is everyone’s responsibility

2. Engage with the school community and families on the importance of attendance

3. Celebrate and acknowledge high attendance

4. Support and re-engage students with attendance below the expected benchmark

5. Track, monitor and follow up on unexplained absences.

We want to ensure that students achieve their optimum capacity by being at school when they are well. The tables illustrate away days that equate for time at school.

Attendance

Stay Connected at GA

Communication between school and home is certainly an important factor in the day-to-day functioning of schools and homes. Knowing what is happening when and why helps households plan the week for uniforms or sporting days for example and teachers appreciate being advised of anything that may affect their students’ ability to learn. Our school is like a small town and there are always lots of things happening each week so your teacher will send a weekly email to their class parents giving an overview of the week ahead and reminders if required. Guardian Angels’ provides a newsletter each Tuesday which is emailed out to parents. This newsletter really helps with keeping up to date with school events and general information from around the school.

Guardian Angels’ has official Facebook and Instagram accounts/pages that assist with promoting events or highlighting what has occurred over the week. Connect with us at:

Outside of School Offerings

We have several different activities that are available outside of school hours. Swimming is the only activity at this stage before school. Guardian Angels’ staff also offer a Runners Club before school at different times of the year which is linked to athletic and sporting events.
