Goforth Family Land Becomes Flag Pole Hill
Before it was Flag Pole Hill, the land was acquired from the Goforth family. From the Pioneers of Dallas County Facebook page: This 1899 photo shows Samuel Church and Alice Gualt Goforth with their older children. The city of Dallas acquired over 400 acres of land from the Goforth family during the construction of White Rock Lake. Flag Pole Hill area was part of this purchase. “If I recall correctly, Church Road was named in honor of Church Goforth,” says Jim Foster, member of the Pioneers of Dallas County Facebook page.

Lake Highlands welcomes Marie’s Kitchen, a deli and Filipino eatery that’s located at 11910 Greenville Ave., Suite 103. Marie’s Kitchen offers all-day American and Filipino breakfast, panini, sandwiches, salads and more.

A new addition to the Lakeridge Village shopping center, SoCo will offer brunch six days a week from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu incudes fried chicken and waffle sliders with jalapeno honey butter and Monte Cristo sandwiches. Scones and other baked treats will be fresh daily, and flavors on the jam bar will include blueberry, rhubarb and strawberry jalapeno.
